By using a self-developed test system, both permeability and porosity of granite from an underground oil storage depot were measured. In order to study the influence of rock types on permeability, a tight sandstone was selected as a contrast. The experimental results suggested that the porosity of this granite is less than 5% and permeability is low to 10–20 m^2 within the range of effective stress. During the loading process, both exponential relationship and power law can be utilized to describe the relationship between effective stress and permeability. However, power law matches the experimental data better during the unloading condition. The stress dependent porosity of granite during loading process can be described via an exponential relationship while the match between the model and experimental data can be improved by a power law in unloading paths. The correlation of permeability and porosity can be described in a power law form. Besides, granite shows great different evolution rules in permeability and porosity from sandstone. It is inferred that this difference can be attributed to the preparing of samples and different movements of microstructures subjected to effective stress.展开更多

However, the theory of consolidation, which can account for both the geometrical nonlinearity and the non-Darcian flow, has not been reported so far. In this contribution, a model for the consolidation of soft clay which can allow for these two factors simultaneously is proposed. Utilizing the finite difference method, the numerical model for this problem is developed. With the numerical model, the effects of the geometrical nonlinearity and the non-Darcian flow on the consolidation of the soft soil are investigated. The results show that when the self-weight stress is calculated by the same method, the rate of the non-Darcian consolidation for the large-strain case is larger than that for the small-strain case, but the difference between them is limited. However, the difference between the consolidation rates caused by the non-Darcian and Darcian flows is significant. Therefore, when the geometrical nonlinearity of the soft clay is considered in calculating the consolidation settlement, due to the complexity of the large-strain assumption, the small-strain assumption can be used to replace it if the self-weight stress for the small-strain assumption is calculated by considering its sedimentation. However, due to the aforementioned large difference between the consolidation rates with consideration of the non-Darcian flow in soft clay or not, it is better to consider the non-Darcian flow law for both the small and large stain assumptions.展开更多

A comprehensive monitoring of pore pressure and flow rate distributions inside the rock mass is very important to elucidate the permeability evolution mechanisms, which is difficult to realize in laboratory, but easy to be achieved in numerical simulations. Therefore, the particle flow code (PFC), a discrete element method, is used to simulate permeability behaviors of rock materials in this study. Owe to the limitation of the existed solid-fluid coupling algorithm in PFC, an improved flow-coupling algorithm is presented to better reflect the preferential flow in rock fractures. The comparative analysis is conducted between original and improved algorithm when simulating rock permeability evolution during triaxial compression, showing that the improved algorithm can better describe the experimental phenomenon. Furthermore, the evolution of pore pressure and flow rate distribution during the flow process are analyzed by using the improved algorithm. It is concluded that during the steady flow process in the fractured specimen, the pore pressure and flow rate both prefer transmitting through the fractures rather than rock matrix. Based on the results, fractures are divided into the following three types: I) fractures link to both the inlet and outlet, II) fractures only link to the inlet, and III) fractures only link to the outlet. The type I fracture is always the preferential propagating path for both the pore pressure and flow rate. For type II fractures, the pore pressure increases and then becomes steady. However, the flow rate increases first and begins to decrease after the flow reaches the stop end of the fracture and finally vanishes. There is no obvious pore pressure or flow rate concentration within type III fractures.展开更多

Based on experimental results, rock rheological properties influenced by seepage-stress coupling were studied, and variations of seepage rate with time in complete creep processes of rock were analyzed. It is shown that, when the applied stress is less than failure stress level, the creep deformation is not obvious, and its main form is steady-state creep. When applied stress level is greater than or less than but close to fracture stress, it is easier to see the increase of creep deformation and the more obvious accelerative creep characteristics. The circumferential creep deformation is obviously higher than the axial creep deformation. At the stage of steady-state creep, the average of seepage flow rate is about 4.7×10-9 rn/s at confining pressure (tr3) of 2 MPa, and is about 3.9×10-9 m/s at a3 of 6 MPa. It is seen that the seepage flow rate at or3 of 2 MPa in this case is obviously larger than that at tr3 of 6 MPa. At the stage of creep acceleration, the seepage flow rate is markedly increased with the increase of time. The variation of rock permeability is directly connected to the growth and evolution of creep crack. It is suggested that the permeability coefficient in complete creep processes of rock is not a constant, but is a function of rock creep strain, confining pressure, damage variable and pore water pressure. The results can be considered to provide a reliable reference for the establishment of rock rheological model and parameter identification.展开更多

By means of experimental data analysis and theoretical derivation, a calculation method of coal seam gas permeability was proposed, which synthesized the respective influences of gas dynamic viscosity, compressibility factor and Klinkenberg effect. The study results show that the Klinkenberg effect has a significant influence on the coal seam gas seepage, the permeability estimated with the method considering the Klinkenberg effect is correct, and this permeability can fully reflect the true seepage state of the gas. For the gas around the standard conditions, the influences of dynamic viscosity and compressibility factor on the permeability may be ignored. For the gas deviating far away from the standard conditions, the influences of dynamic viscosity and compressibility factor on the permeability must be considered. The research results have certain guiding significance in forming a correct understanding of the Klinkenberg effect and selecting a more accurate calculation method for the permeability of coal containing gas.展开更多

The results indicate that the conventional slag, consisting of 70% CaF2 and 30% A1203, has the lowest hydrogen permeability. A parameter EH was proposed for evaluation of the hydrogen permeability of slags containing calcium fluoride. The hydrogen permeability decreases with increasing EH to a certain extent. An appropriate choice of slag for the ESR process can be obtained. These results also suggest that the hydrogen pick-up in steel after remelting might be reduced when a slag with low hydrogen permeability is used.展开更多

The permeability impairment affects CO_(2) injectivity and migration. Different values of three characteristic parameters for capillary pressure function (air entry pressure, empirical parameter m and liquid residual saturation) as well as input absolute value of maximum capillary are chosen in numerical simulation to figure out their effects on salt precipitation. Verma & Pruess model is then used for quantifying permeability impairment. Results show that permeability decreases with higher air entry pressure, larger liquid residual saturation, and especially smaller value of empirical parameter m. To enhance CO_(2) injectivity and avoid blocking of CO_(2) migration, a homogenous formation with large pore size should be chosen before CO_(2) injection into deep saline aquifer.展开更多

And simultaneous fracturing optimal design of two adjacent horizontal wells was finished and employed in field test. Micro-seismic monitoring analysis of fracture propagation during the stimulation treatment shows that hydraulic fractures present a pattern of complicated network expansion, and the well test data after fracturing show that the daily production of well Yangping-1 and well Yangping-2 reach105.8 t/d and 87.6 t/d, which are approximately 9.4 times and 7.8 times the daily production of a fractured vertical well in the same area, respectively. Field test reflects that simultaneous hydraulic fracturing of two adjacent horizontal wells can enlarge the expansion area of hydraulic fractures to obtain a lager drainage area and realize the full stimulation of ultra-low permeability sandstone reservoirs in China Changqing oilfield. Therefore, simultaneous fracturing of two adjacent horizontal wells provides a good opportunity in stimulation techniques for the efficient development of ultra-low permeability reservoirs in China Changqing oilfield, and it has great popularization value and can provide a new avenue for the application of stimulation techniques in ultra-low permeability reservoirs in China.展开更多

This paper presents an experimental study of hydraulic properties of compacted binary silty clay. Specimens with different mixing ratios and dry densities were prepared. Scanning electron microscopy and mercury intrusion porosimetry were used to characterise the microstructure of silty clay. Thereafter, falling-head permeability tests and water retention tests were conducted to study the permeability and water retention property, respectively. The results demonstrate that clay particles are dispersed and show preferred arrangements after compaction when the clay content is 100%. As the clay content decreases, the arrangement of clay particles is gradually disturbed because of the existence of silt particles, causing the formation of large pores around silt particles. When the dry density increases, the pores around silt particles significantly decrease. Moreover, the permeability of silty clay decreases but the water retention capacity increases with increasing clay content and dry density. This is because the silty clay with larger clay content and dry density has fewer large pores, which greatly restrains the flow of water. Both the permeability and water retention property of silty clay can be predicted from pore size distribution parameters.展开更多

文摘Focused on the Klinkenberg effect on gas seepage, the independently developed triaxial experimental system of gas seepage was applied to conduct research on the seepage characteristics of coal seam gas. The research results have certain guiding significance in forming a correct understanding of the Klinkenberg effect and selecting a more accurate calculation method for the permeability of coal containing gas.

文摘Taking low permeability cores of Daqing oilfield for example, the flow characteristics at low velocity were studied with the self-designed micro-flux measuring instrument.Considering the throat distribution and capillary model, the thickness of fluid boundary layer under different pressure gradients was calculated, and the mechanism and influencing factors of nonlinear percolation were discussed. The results show that the percolation curve of ultra-low rocks is nonlinear, and apparent permeability is not a constant which increases with pressure gradient. The absorption boundary layer decreases with the increase of pressure gradient, and changes significantly especially in low pressure gradient, which is the essence of nonlinear percolation. The absorption boundary layer is also found to be impacted by the surface property of rocks.

文摘To investigate the hydrogen permeability of calcium fluoride used for electroslag remelting (ESR) process, "Gas-slag- metal" osmosis process under argon atmosphere saturated with water vapor at 318 K was used to study the hydrogen permeability of slag containing calcium fluoride. These results also suggest that the hydrogen pick-up in steel after remelting might be reduced when a slag with low hydrogen permeability is used.

文摘Actual sandstone micromodel was used in this work to conduct the microscopic waterflooding experiment of ultra-low sandstone reservoir, since the inside seepage characteristics of microscopic waterflooding process of Chang 8 ultra-low permeability sandstone reservoir of Upper Triassic Yanchang formation in Huaqing region of the Ordos Basin,China is difficult to observe directly.Combined with physical property, casting thin sections,constant-rate mercury injection capillary pressure and nuclear magnetic resonance, the influence of reservoir property on the waterflooding characteristics in pores were analyzed and evaluated.Seepage paths of waterflooding characteristics were divided into four types:homogeneous seepage,reticular-homogeneous seepage,finger-reticular seepage and finger-like seepage, the waterflooding efficiency of which decreases in turn.More than 70%of residual oil occurs as flowing-around seepage and oil film.Physical property, pore structure and movable fluid characteristics are all controlled by digenesis and their impacts on waterflooding efficiency are in accordance.Generally, the pore throat radius size and distribution and movable fluid percentage are closely related to waterflooding law.

文摘A novel method was developed to establish a realistic three dimensional(3D) network model representing pore space in low permeability sandstone.Digital core of rock sample was established by the combination of micro-CT scanning and image processing, then 3D pore-throat network model was extracted from the digital core through analyzing pore space topology, calculating pore-throat parameters and simplifying the shapes of pores and throats. The good agreements between predicted and measured porosity and absolute permeability verified the validity of this new network model.Gas-water flow mechanism was studied by using pore-scale simulations, and the influence of pore structure parameters, including coordination number, aspect ratio and shape factor,on gas-water flow, was investigated. The present simulation results show that with the increment of coordination number, gas flow ability in network improves and the effect of invading water on blocking gas flow weakens. The smaller the aspect ratio is,the stronger the anisotropy of the network is,resulting in the increase of seepage resistance. It is found that the shape factor mainly affects the end points in relative permeability curves, and for a highly irregular pore or throat with a small shape factor, the irreducible water saturation(Swi) and residual gas saturation(Sgr) are relatively high.

文摘During CO_(2) injection in deep saline aquifers, salt precipitation happens around the injection well because of capillary driven back flow, inducing permeability impairment. To enhance CO_(2) injectivity and avoid blocking of CO_(2) migration, a homogenous formation with large pore size should be chosen before CO_(2) injection into deep saline aquifer.

文摘Based on the impact of the stress perturbation effect created by simultaneous propagation of multiple fractures in the process of simultaneous hydraulic fracturing, a thorough research on the mechanism and adaptation of simultaneous fracturing of double horizontal wells in ultra-low permeability sandstone reservoirs was conducted by taking two adjacent horizontal wells(well Yangping-1 and well Yangping-2 located in Longdong area of China Changqing Oilfield) as field test wells. Therefore, simultaneous fracturing of two adjacent horizontal wells provides a good opportunity in stimulation techniques for the efficient development of ultra-low permeability reservoirs in China Changqing oilfield, and it has great popularization value and can provide a new avenue for the application of stimulation techniques in ultra-low permeability reservoirs in China.

文摘To assess the water inflow which is more suitable to the actual conditions of tunnel,an empirical correlation about the permeability coefficient changing with depth is introduced.Supposing that the surrounding rock is heterogeneous isotropy, the formula for calculating water inflow of tunnel with the nonlinear variation of permeability coefficient is deduced.By the contrast analysis with the existing formulas, the presented method has the similar value to them;moreover, the presented method has more simple form and easy to use.Due to parameter analysis, the water inflow decreases after considering the nonlinear variation of permeability coefficient. When the attenuation coefficient a>0,the water inflow increases first till reaches the maximum at a certain depth, then decreases and is close to 0 finally if deep enough. Thus,it is better to keep away from the certain depth where it is with the maximum water inflow for safe operation and economical construction, and reduce the water damage.Based on the analysis, the radius of tunnel has less impact on the amount of water inflow, and the water inflow just increases by 6.7% when the radius of tunnel increases by 1 m.

文摘The durability of silty clay embankments is partially controlled by the moisture migration, which depends on soil hydraulic properties. Both the permeability and water retention property of silty clay can be predicted from pore size distribution parameters.

文摘Permeable roads generally exhibit inferior mechanical properties and shorter service life than traditional dense-graded/impermeable roads.Furthermore, the incorporation of recycled aggregates in their construction may exacerbate these limitations. To address these issues, this study introduced a novel cement-stabilized permeable recycled aggregate material.A total of 162 beam specimens prepared with nine different levels of cement-aggregate ratio were tested to evaluate their permeability, bending load, and bending fatigue life. The experimental results indicate that increasing the content of recycled aggregates led to a reduction in both permeability and bending load.Additionally, the inclusion of recycled aggregates diminished the energy dissipation capacity of the specimens. These findings were used to establish a robust relationship between the initial damage in cement-stabilized permeable recycled aggregate material specimens and their fatigue life, and to propose a predictive model for their fatigue performance.Further,a method for assessing fatigue damage based on the evolution of fatigue-induced strain and energy dissipation was developed. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the mechanical behavior and fatigue performance of cement-stabilized permeable recycled aggregate materials, offering guidance for the design of low-carbon-emission,permeable,and durable roadways incorporating recycled aggregates.
