The particle simulation method is used to study the effects of loading waveforms (i.e. square, sinusoidal and triangle waveforms) on rock damage at mesoscopic scale. Then some influencing factors on rock damage at the mesoscopic scale, such as loading frequency, stress amplitude, mean stress, confining pressure and loading sequence, are also investigated with sinusoidal waveform in detail. The related numerical results have demonstrated that: 1) the loading waveform has a certain effect on rock failure processes. The square waveform has the most damage within these waveforms, while the triangle waveform has less damage than sinusoidal waveform. In each cycle, the number of microscopic cracks increases in the loading stage, while it keeps nearly constant in the unloading stage. 2) The loading frequency, stress amplitude, mean stress, confining pressure and loading sequence have considerable effects on rock damage subjected to cyclic loading. The higher the loading frequency, stress amplitude and mean stress, the greater the damage the rock accumulated; in contrast, the lower the confining pressure, the greater the damage the rock has accumulated. 3) There is a threshold value of mean stress and stress amplitude, below which no further damage accumulated after the first few cycle loadings. 4) The high-to-low loading sequence has more damage than the low-to-high loading sequence, suggesting that the rock damage is loading-path dependent. 展开更多

Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems caused by fluid impact loads are com- monly existent in naval architectures and ocean engineering fields. For instance, the impact loads due to non-linear fluid motion in a liquid sloshing tank potentially affect the structural safety of cargo tanks or vessels. The challenges of numerical study on FSI problems involve not only multidisciplinary features, but also accurate description of non-linear free surface. A fully Lagrangian particle-based method , the moving particle semi-implicit and finite element coupled method ( MPS-FEM), is developed to numerically study the FSI problems. Taking into account the advantage of the Lagrangian method for large deformations of both fluid and solid bounda- ties, the MPS method is used to simulate the fluid field while the finite element method(FEM) to calculate the structure field. Besides, the partitioning strategy is employed to couple the MPS and FEM modules. To validate accuracy of the proposed algorithm, a benchmark case is numer- ically investigated. Both the patterns of free surface and the deflections of the elastic structures are in good agreement with the experimental data. Then, the present FSI solver is applied to the comparative study of the mitigating effects of rigid baffles and elastic baffles on the sloshing motions and impact loads. 展开更多

To properly simulate hard rock with a high ratio of the uniaxial compressive strength to tensile strength(UCS/TS) and realistic strength-failure envelope, the rock deformation and mechanical characteristics were discussed in detail when the particle simulation method with the clump parallel-bond model(CPBM) was used to conduct a series of numerical experiments at the specimen scale.Meanwhile, the effects of the loading procedure and crack density on the mechanical behavior of a specimen, which was modeled by the particle simulation method with the CPBM,were investigated. The related numerical results have demonstrated that:1) The uniaxial compressive strength(UCS),tensile strength(TS) and elastic modulus are overestimated when the conventional loading procedure is used in the particle simulation method with the CPBM; 2) The elastic modulus, strength and UCS/TS decrease, while Poisson ratio increases with the increase of the crack density in the particle simulation method with the CPBM; 3) The particle simulation method with the CPBM can be used to reproduce a high value of UCS/TS(>10),as well as a high friction angle and reasonable cohesion strength; 4) As the confining pressure increases, both the peak strength of the simulated specimen and the number of microscopic cracks increase, but the ratio of tensile cracks number to shear cracks number decreases in the particle simulation method with the CPBM; 5) Compared with the conventional parallel-bond model, the CPBM can be used to reproduce more accurate results for simulating the rock deformation and mechanical characteristics. 展开更多

To rapidly generate a reentry trajectory for hypersonic vehicle satisfying waypoint and no-fly zone constraints, a novel optimization method, which combines the improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm with the improved Gauss pseudospectral method (GPM), is proposed. The improved PSO algorithm is used to generate a good initial value in a short time, and the mission of the improved GPM is to find the final solution with a high precision. In the improved PSO algorithm, by controlling the entropy of the swarm in each dimension, the typical PSO algorithm's weakness of being easy to fall into a local optimum can be overcome. In the improved GPM, two kinds of breaks are introduced to divide the trajectory into multiple segments, and the distribution of the Legendre-Gauss (LG) nodes can be altered, so that all the constraints can be satisfied strictly. Thereby the advan- tages of both the intelligent optimization algorithm and the direct method are combined. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is insensitive to initial values, and it has more rapid convergence and higher precision than traditional ones. 展开更多
