In order to explore the mechanical properties of rocks under H-M coupling, the corresponding damage constitutive(D-C) model has become the focus of attention. Considering the inadequacy of the current research on rock strength parameters, energy evolution characteristics and D-C model under H-M coupling, the mechanical properties of typical sandstone samples are discussed based on laboratory tests. The results show that the variation of characteristic stresses of sandstone under H-M coupling conforms to the normalized attenuation equation and Mohr-Coulomb(M-C) criterion. The P-W pressure mechanism of sandstone exhibits a dynamic change from softening effect to H-M fracturing effect. The closure stress is mainly provided by cohesive strength, while the initiation stress, damage stress, and peak stress are jointly dominated by cohesive strength and friction strength. In addition, residual stress is attributed to the friction strength formed by the bite of the fracture surface. Subsequently, the energy evolution characteristics of sandstone under H-M coupling were studied, and it was found that P-W pressure weakened the energy storage capacity and energy dissipation capacity of sandstone, and H-M fracturing was an important factor in reducing its energy storage efficiency. Finally, combined with energy dissipation theory and statistical damage theory, two types of D-C models considering P-W pressure are proposed accordingly, and the model parameters can be determined by four methods. The application results indicate that the proposed and modified D-C models have high reliability, and can characterize the mechanical behavior of sandstone under H-M coupling, overcome the inconvenience of existing D-C models due to excessive mechanical parameters, and can be applied to the full-range stress–strain process. The results are conducive to revealing the deformation and damage mechanisms of rocks under H-M coupling, and can provide theoretical guidance for related engineering problems.展开更多

The integrated approach is specialized for the middle Permian Shihezi Formation TGSs in the northeastern Ordos Basin, where operators often face significant drilling uncertainty and increased exploration risks due to low porosities and micro-Darcy range permeabilities. In this study, detrital compositions and diagenetic minerals and their pore type assemblages were analyzed using optical light microscopy, cathodoluminescence, standard scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. Different types of diagenetic facies were delineated on this basis to capture the characteristic rock properties of the TGSs in the target formation.A combination of He porosity and permeability measurements, mercury intrusion capillary pressure and nuclear magnetic resonance data was used to analyze the mechanism of heterogeneous TGS reservoirs. We found that the type, size and proportion of pores considerably varied between diagenetic facies due to differences in the initial depositional attributes and subsequent diagenetic alterations;these differences affected the size, distribution and connectivity of the pore network and varied the reservoir quality. Five types of diagenetic facies were classified:(i) grain-coating facies, which have minimal ductile grains, chlorite coatings that inhibit quartz overgrowths, large intergranular pores that dominate the pore network, the best pore structure and the greatest reservoir quality;(ii) quartz-cemented facies, which exhibit strong quartz overgrowths, intergranular porosity and a pore size decrease, resulting in the deterioration of the pore structure and reservoir quality;(iii) mixed-cemented facies, in which the cementation of various authigenic minerals increases the micropores, resulting in a poor pore structure and reservoir quality;(iv) carbonate-cemented facies and(v) tightly compacted facies, in which the intergranular pores are filled with carbonate cement and ductile grains;thus, the pore network mainly consists of micropores with small pore throat sizes, and the pore structure and reservoir quality are the worst. The grain-coating facies with the best reservoir properties are more likely to have high gas productivity and are the primary targets for exploration and development. The diagenetic facies were then translated into wireline log expressions(conventional and NMR logging). Finally, a wireline log quantitative prediction model of TGSs using convolutional neural network machine learning algorithms was established to successfully classify the different diagenetic facies.展开更多

However, the complex pore structures, poor pore connectivity, and uneven fluid distribution of tight sandstone reservoirs make the correlation between reservoir parameters and elastic properties more complicated and thus pose a major challenge in seismic reservoir characterization. We have developed a partially connected double porosity model to calculate elastic properties by considering the pore structure and connectivity, and to analyze these factors' influences on the elastic behaviors of tight sandstone reservoirs. The modeling results suggest that the bulk modulus is likely to be affected by the pore connectivity coefficient, while the shear modulus is sensitive to the volumetric fraction of stiff pores. By comparing the model predictions with the acoustic measurements of the dry and saturated quartz sandstone samples, the volumetric fraction of stiff pores and the pore connectivity coefficient can be determined. Based on the calibrated model, we have constructed a 3D rock physics template that accounts for the reservoir properties' impacts on the P-wave impedance, S-wave impedance, and density. The template combined with Bayesian inverse theory is used to quantify gas saturation, porosity, clay content, and their corresponding uncertainties from elastic parameters. The application of well-log and seismic data demonstrates that our 3D rock physics template-based probabilistic inversion approach performs well in predicting the spatial distribution of high-quality tight sandstone reservoirs in southwestern China.展开更多

Low-permeability reservoirs show several unique characteristics, including lack of a definite trap boundary or caprock, limited buoyancy effect, complex oil-gas-water distribution, without obvious oil-gas-water interfaces, and relatively low oil (gas) saturation. Based on the simulation experiments of oil accumulation in low-permeability sandstone (oil displacing water), we study the migration and accumulation characteristics of non-Darcy oil flow, and discuss the values and influencing factors of relative permeability which is a key parameter characterizing oil migration and accumulation in low-permeability sandstone. The results indicate that: 1) Oil migration (oil displacing water) in low- permeability sandstone shows non-Darcy percolation characteristics, and there is a threshold pressure gradient during oil migration and accumulation, which has a good negative correlation with permeability and apparent fluidity; 2) With decrease of permeability and apparent fluidity and increase of fluid viscosity, the percolation curve is closer to the pressure gradient axis and the threshold pressure gradient increases. When the apparent fluidity is more than 1.0, the percolation curve shows modified Darcy flow characteristics, while when the apparent fluidity up" non-Darcy percolation curve; 3) Oil-water is less than 1.0, the percolation curve is a "concave- two-phase relative permeability is affected by core permeability, fluid viscosity, apparent fluidity, and injection drive force; 4) The oil saturation of low- permeability sandstone reservoirs is mostly within 35%-60%, and the oil saturation also has a good positive correlation with the permeability and apparent fluidity.展开更多

These high gamma sandstones have logging characteristics different from conventional sandstones, which influences the identification of sandstone reservoirs. Zhang et al (2010) proposed that the high gamma sandstones of the Yanchang Formation might be the result of re-deposition of homochronous sedimentary tufts or previous tufts as a part of the sandstone. However, we present a different viewpoint: 1) few tufts or tuff debris have been found in the high gamma sandstones of the Yanchang Formation; 2) high gamma (or high Th content) sandstones of Yanchang Formation are not related to either clay minerals or feldspar; 3) the heavy minerals in the sandstone reservoirs of the Yanchang Formation are dominated by zircon, which is characterized by abnormally high Th and U contents, up to 2,163 ppm and 1,362 ppm, respectively. This is sufficient to explain the high gamma anomaly. The conclusion is that the high gamma value of the Yanchang Formation sandstones might be caused by zircon with high Th and U contents in sandstones rather than from the tuff components.展开更多

A new method (hereafter denoted the "slide method") was developed and used for analyzing the permeability data obtained. The effective pressure coefficients for permeability nk were calculated. The values of nk were found to be greater than 1.0 and insensitive to changes in pressure. These results confirmed observations previously made on clay-rich rocks. Also, the coefficients nk obtained had different characteristics for different samples because of differences in the types of clay they contained. The effective pressure law (σeff=Pc-nkPp) determined using the slide method gave better results about k(oefr) than classic Terzaghi's law (σeff=Pc-nkPp).展开更多

However, heated debates and gaps still remain regarding classification standards of tight sandstone gas, and critical controlling factors, accumulation mechanisms, and devel- opment modes of tight sandstone reservoirs are not deter- mined. Tight sandstone gas reservoirs in China are generally characterized by tight strata, widespread distri- bution areas, coal strata supplying gas, complex gas-water relations, and abnormally low gas reservoir pressure. Water and gas reversal patterns have been detected via glass tube and quartz sand modeling, and the presence of critical geological conditions without buoyancy-driven mecha- nisms can thus be assumed. According to the timing of gas charging and reservoir tightening phases, the following three tight sandstone gas reservoir types have been identified: (a) "accumulation-densification" (AD), or the conventional tight type, (b) "densification-accumulation" (DA), or the deep tight type, and (c) the composite tight type. For the AD type, gas charging occurs prior to reser- voir densification, accumulating in higher positions under buoyancy-controlled mechanisms with critical controlling factors such as source kitchens (S), regional overlaying cap rocks (C), gas reservoirs, (D) and low fluid potential areas (P). For the DA type, reservoir densification prior to the gas charging period (GCP) leads to accumulation in depres- sions and slopes largely due to hydrocarbon expansive forces without buoyancy, and critical controlling factors are effective source rocks (S), widely distributed reservoirs (D), stable tectonic settings (W) and universal densification of reservoirs (L). The composite type includes features of the AD type and DA type, and before and after reservoir densification period (RDP), gas charging and accumulation is controlled by early buoyancy and later molecular expansive force respectively. It is widely distributed in anticlinal zones, deep sag areas and slopes, and is con- trolled by source kitchens (S), reservoirs (D), cap rocks (C), stable tectonic settings (W), low fluid potential areas (P), and universal reservoir densification (L). Tight gas resources with great resource potential are widely dis- tributed worldwide, and tight gas in China that presents advantageous reservoir-forming conditions is primarily found in the Ordos, Sichuan, Tarim, Junggar, and Turpan- Hami basins of central-western China. Tight gas has served as the primary impetus for global unconventional natural gas exploration and production under existing technical conditions.展开更多

The predicted results were consistent with field monitoring data (80%), so this model could be economically and effectively used to identify high-capacity channels.展开更多

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the hydrocarbon charging histories of reservoirs by applying K-Ar dating of authigenic illites. The ages of authigenic illites from the Lower Silurian bituminous sandstones in the Central Uplift area range from 383.5 to 235.2 Ma, suggesting that the Silurian oil accumulations were formed from the late Caledonian till the late Hercynian. The ages of authigenic illites from the Upper Devonian Donghe Sandstone reservoirs range from 263.8 to 231.3 Ma, indicating that hydrocarbon accumulations within the Donghe sandstone were formed mainly in the late Hercynian. The authigenic illites ages from the Lower Jurassic Yangxia Group sandstones in the Yinan-2 gas reservoir (Yinan-2, Kuqa Depression) range from 28.1 to 23.9 Ma, suggesting that the initial hydrocarbon charging occurred in the Miocene. The ages of the authigenic illites from the Lower Cretaceous sandstones in the Akemomu gas field (Ake-1, Kashi Sag, Southwest Depression) range from 22.6 to 18.8 Ma, indicating a probable early oil accumulation or early migration of hydrocarbon within this area. The illites from the Paleogene sandstones in the Dina-2 gas reservoir (Dina-201, Kuqa Depression) have a detrital origin; they cannot be used to study the hydrocarbon charging histories. The ages of authigenic illites in the underlying Cretaceous sandstones in the same well (Dina-201) range from 25.5 to 15.5 Ma, indicating that hydrocarbon charging in this reservoir probably occurred within the Miocene. This study highlights the potential of applying K-Ar dating of authigenic illites to investigate the timing of hydrocarbon charging histories of the Tarim Basin reservoir sandstones.展开更多

Three genesis types of thermal diagenesis, tectonic diagenesis and fluid diagenesis are presented on the basis of the dynamic environment of the oil/gas basins and.the controlling factors and mechanisms of sandstone diagenesis. Thermal diagenesis of sandstone reservoirs is related not only to the effect of formation temperature on diagenesis, but also to the significant changes in diagenesis caused by geothermal gradients. The concept of thermal compaction is presented. Thermal compaction becomes weaker with increasing depth and becomes stronger at a higher geothermal gradient. At the same formation temperature, the sandstone porosity in the region with a lower geothermal gradient is e^0.077+0.0042T times higher than that in the region with a higher geothermal gradient. Both sudden and gradual changes are observed in diagenetic evolution caused by structural deformation. Average sandstone compaction increased by 0.1051% for every 1.0MPa increase of lateral tectonic compressional stress, while late tectonic napping helped to preserve a higher porosity of underlying sandstone reservoir. Fluid diagenesis is a general phenomenon. The compaction caused by fluid properties is significant. The coarser the grain size, the stronger the fluid effect on compaction. The greater the burial depth, the weaker the fluid effect on compaction for the specific reservoir lithology and the greater the difference in the fluid effects on compaction between different grain sizes.展开更多

The polyaxial tests were conducted on cubical specimens of sandstone obtained from the Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh state of India, The specimens having nominal dimensions of100 mm x 100 mm x 100 mm were tested using a polyaxial testing machine. Twenty-five combinations of intermediate and minor principal stresses were applied and the specimens were loaded till failure occurs. It was observed that the intermediate principal stress has a substantial effect on the strength of the Shivpuri sandstone. A database of rock strength under various combinations of σ_2 and σ_3 was obtained for the Shivpuri sandstone. The database was used to study the predictability of five most commonly used strength criterion. Root mean square error(RMSE), average absolute relative error percentage(AAREP) and coefficient of accordance(COA) were used as indices for the measure of goodness of fit. It was observed that the least error in the prediction was shown by modified Mohr Coulomb criterion followed by modified Weibols and Cook criterion. A probability analysis of the error in prediction was also done.展开更多

文摘To clarify the formation and distribution of feldspar dissolution pores and predict the distribution of high-quality reservoir in gravity flow sandstone of the 7^(th) member of Triassic Yanchang Formation(Chang 7 Member)in the Ordos Basin, thin sections, scanning electron microscopy, energy spectrum analysis,X-ray diffraction whole rock analysis, and dissolution experiments are employed in this study to investigate the characteristics and control factors of feldspar dissolution pores. The results show that:(1)Three types of diagenetic processes are observed in the feldspar of Chang 7 sandstone in the study area:secondary overgrowth of feldspar, replacement by clay and calcite, and dissolution of detrital feldspar.(2)The feldspar dissolution of Chang 7 tight sandstone is caused by organic acid, and is further affected by the type of feldspar, the degree of early feldspar alteration, and the buffering effect of mica debris on organic acid.(3)Feldspars have varying degrees of dissolution.Potassium feldspar is more susceptible to dissolution than plagioclase.Among potassium feldspar, orthoclase is more soluble than microcline, and unaltered feldspar is more soluble than early kaolinized or sericitized feldspar.(4)The dissolution experiment demonstrated that the presence of mica can hinder the dissolution of feldspar.Mica of the same mass has a significantly stronger capacity to consume organic acids than feldspar.(5)Dissolution pores in feldspar of Chang 7 Member are more abundant in areas with low mica content, and they improve the reservoir physical properties, while in areas with high mica content, the number of feldspar dissolution pores decreases significantly.

文摘Underground engineering often passes through water-rich fractured rock masses, which are prone to fracture and instability under the long-term coupling of in-situ stress field and pore water(P-W) pressure, ultimately threatening the stability of underground structures. The results are conducive to revealing the deformation and damage mechanisms of rocks under H-M coupling, and can provide theoretical guidance for related engineering problems.

文摘In this study, an integrated approach for diagenetic facies classification, reservoir quality analysis and quantitative wireline log prediction of tight gas sandstones(TGSs) is introduced utilizing a combination of fit-for-purpose complementary testing and machine learning techniques. Finally, a wireline log quantitative prediction model of TGSs using convolutional neural network machine learning algorithms was established to successfully classify the different diagenetic facies.

文摘A simulated oil viscosity prediction model is established according to the relationship between simulated oil viscosity and geometric mean value of T2spectrum,and the time-varying law of simulated oil viscosity in porous media is quantitatively characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)experiments of high multiple waterflooding.A new NMR wettability index formula is derived based on NMR relaxation theory to quantitatively characterize the time-varying law of rock wettability during waterflooding combined with high-multiple waterflooding experiment in sandstone cores. The remaining oil viscosity in the core is positively correlated with the displacing water multiple. The remaining oil viscosity increases rapidly when the displacing water multiple is low,and increases slowly when the displacing water multiple is high. The variation of remaining oil viscosity is related to the reservoir heterogeneity. The stronger the reservoir homogeneity, the higher the content of heavy components in the remaining oil and the higher the viscosity. The reservoir wettability changes after water injection:the oil-wet reservoir changes into water-wet reservoir, while the water-wet reservoir becomes more hydrophilic;the degree of change enhances with the increase of displacing water multiple. There is a high correlation between the time-varying oil viscosity and the time-varying wettability, and the change of oil viscosity cannot be ignored. The NMR wettability index calculated by considering the change of oil viscosity is more consistent with the tested Amott(spontaneous imbibition)wettability index, which agrees more with the time-varying law of reservoir wettability.

文摘Quantitative prediction of reservoir properties(e.g., gas saturation, porosity, and shale content) of tight reservoirs is of great significance for resource evaluation and well placements. The application of well-log and seismic data demonstrates that our 3D rock physics template-based probabilistic inversion approach performs well in predicting the spatial distribution of high-quality tight sandstone reservoirs in southwestern China.

文摘Based on an elaboration of the resource potential and annual production of tight sandstone gas and shale gas in the United States and China, this paper reviews the researches on the distribution of tight sandstone gas and shale gas reservoirs, and analyzes the distribution characteristics and genetic types of tight sandstone gas reservoirs. In the United States, the proportion of tight sandstone gas in the total gas production declined from 20%-35%in 2008 to about 8%in 2023,and the shale gas production was 8310×10^(8)m^(3)in 2023,about 80%of the total gas production,in contrast to the range of 5%-17%during 2000-2008.In China, the proportion of tight sandstone gas in the total gas production increased from 16%in 2010 to 28%or higher in 2023.China began to produce shale gas in 2012,with the production reaching 250×10^(8)m^(3)in 2023,about 11%of the total gas production of the country. The distribution of shale gas reservoirs is continuous.According to the fault presence, fault displacement and gas layer thickness, the continuous shale gas reservoirs can be divided into two types:continuity and intermittency. Most previous studies believed that both tight sandstone gas reservoirs and shale gas reservoirs are continuous, but this paper holds that the distribution of tight sandstone gas reservoirs is not continuous.According to the trap types, tight sandstone gas reservoirs can be divided into lithologic, anticlinal, and synclinal reservoirs. The tight sandstone gas is coal-derived in typical basins in China and Egypt, but oil-type gas in typical basins in the United States and Oman.

文摘Estimating gas enrichments is a key objective in exploring sweet spots within tight sandstone gas reservoirs. However, the low sensitivity of elastic parameters to gas saturations in such formations makes it a significant challenge to reliably estimate gas enrichments using seismic methods.Through rock physical modeling and reservoir parameter analyses conducted in this study,a more suitable indicator for estimating gas enrichment, termed the gas content indicator, has been proposed. This indicator is formulated based on effective fluid bulk modulus and shear modulus and demonstrates a clear positive correlation with gas content in tight sandstones. Moreover,a new seismic amplitude variation versus offset(AVO)equation is derived to directly extract reservoir properties, such as the gas content indicator and porosity, from prestack seismic data. The accuracy of this proposed AVO equation is validated through comparison with the exact solutions provided by the Zoeppritz equation. To ensure reliable estimations of reservoir properties from partial angle-stacked seismic data, the proposed AVO equation is reformulated within the elastic impedance inversion framework. The estimated gas content indicator and porosity exhibit favorable agreement with logging data, suggesting that the obtained results are suitable for reliable predictions of tight sandstones with high gas enrichments.Furthermore, the proposed methods have the potential to stimulate the advancement of other suitable inversion techniques for directly estimating reservoir properties from seismic data across various petroleum resources.

文摘Radial jet drilling(RJD)is one of the emerging hydrocarbon drilling technologies. And,the swirling abrasive waterjet(SAWJ)is expected to drill larger diameter laterals during RJD.Here, the performances and mechanisms of SAWJ breaking sandstone were studied by laboratory experiments. Results showed that the SAWJ could drill a smooth(surface roughness was 0.043 mm)&large(diameter was in 52.0-73.0 mm)circular hole on sandstone. The hole depth/volume increased as the jetting pressure, abrasive mass concentration and exposure time increased.Conversely, they decreased as the standoff distance increased. The optimal parameter combination under our experimental conditions was 30 MPa,0 mm,12%and 1 min.The SAWJ sandstone breaking mechanism were the erosion of cements, the integrally peeled off and broken of crystal grain.Failure mode of sandstone was mainly the tensile fracture. The key findings will provide guidance for the application of SAWJ in RJD technology.

文摘Injecting CO_(2)when the gas reservoir of tight sandstone is depleted can achieve the dual purposes of greenhouse gas storage and enhanced gas recovery(CS-EGR).To evaluate the feasibility of CO_(2)injection to enhance gas recovery and understand the production mechanism,a numerical simulation model of CS-EGR in multi-stage fracturing horizontal wells is established. The behavior of gas production and CO_(2)sequestration is then analyzed through numerical simulation, and the impact of fracture parameters on production performance is examined.Simulation results show that the production rate increases significantly and a large amount of CO_(2)is stored in the reservoir, proving the technical potential. However, hydraulic fractures accelerate CO_(2)breakthrough,resulting in lower gas recovery and lower CO_(2)storage than in gas reservoirs without fracturing.Increasing the length of hydraulic fractures can significantly increase CH4production,but CO_(2)breakthrough will advance.Staggered and spaced perforation of hydraulic fractures in injection wells and production wells changes the fluid flow path, which can delay CO_(2)breakthrough and benefit production efficiency. The fracture network of massive hydraulic fracturing has a positive effect on the CS-EGR.As a result,CH4production,gas recovery, and CO_(2)storage increase with the increase in stimulated reservoir volume.

文摘The spatial-temporal relationship between high-quality source rocks and reservoirs is a key factor when evaluating the formation, occurrence, and prospectivity of tight oil and gas reservoirs. In this study,we analyze the fundamental oil and gas accumulation processes occurring in the Songliao Basin, contrasting tight oil sand reservoirs in the south with tight gas sand reservoirs in the north. This is done using geochemical data,constant-rate and conventional mercury injection experiments, and fluid inclusion analyses. Our results demonstrate that as far as fluid mobility is concerned, the expulsion center coincides with the overpressure zone, and its boundary limits the occurrence of tight oil and gas accumulations. In addition, the lower permeability limit of high-quality reservoirs, controlled by pore-throat structures,is 0.1×10^-3μm^2 in the fourth member of the Lower Cretaceous Quantou Formation(K1q^4)in the southern Songliao Basin, and 0.05×10^-3μm^2 in the Lower Cretaceous Shahezi Formation(K1sh)in the northern Songliao Basin.Furthermore, the results indicate that the formation of tight oil and gas reservoirs requires the densification of reservoirs prior to the main phase of hydrocarbon expulsion from the source rocks.Reservoir“sweet spots”develop at the intersection of high-quality source rocks(with high pore pressure)and reservoirs(with high permeability).

文摘The Ordos Basin is a significant petroliferous basin in the central part of China. The Carboniferous and Permian deposits of transitional and continental facies are the main gas-bearing layers in the north part of the basin. The Carboniferous and Permian natural gas reservoirs in the northern Ordos Basin are mainly tight sandstone reservoirs with low porosity and low permeability, developing lots of "sweet spots" with comparatively high porosity and permeability. The tight sandstones in the study area are gas-bearing,and the sweet spots are rich in gas.Sweet spots and tight sandstones are connected rather than being separated by an interface seal.Sweet spot sand bodies are vertically and horizontally overlapped, forming a large gas reservoir group. In fact,a reservoir formed by a single sweet spot sand body is an open gas accumulation. In the gentle dipping geological setting and with the source rocks directly beneath the tight reservoirs over a large area, the balance between gas charging into tight reservoirs from source rocks and gas loss from tight reservoirs through caprock is the key of gas accumulation in tight sandstones. Both the non-Darcy flow charging driven by source-reservoir excess pressure difference and the diffusion flow charging driven by source-reservoir gas concentration difference play an important role in gas accumulation. The results of mathematical modeling indicate that the gas accumulation cannot be formed by just one of the above mechanisms. The diffusion of gas from source rocks to reservoirs is a significant mechanism of tight sandstone gas accumulation.

文摘Hydrocarbon resources in low-permeability sandstones are very abundant and are extensively distributed. When the apparent fluidity is more than 1.0, the percolation curve shows modified Darcy flow characteristics, while when the apparent fluidity up" non-Darcy percolation curve; 3) Oil-water is less than 1.0, the percolation curve is a "concave- two-phase relative permeability is affected by core permeability, fluid viscosity, apparent fluidity, and injection drive force; 4) The oil saturation of low- permeability sandstone reservoirs is mostly within 35%-60%, and the oil saturation also has a good positive correlation with the permeability and apparent fluidity.

文摘Recently, more attention has been paid on the high gamma sandstone reservoirs of the Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin, China. The conclusion is that the high gamma value of the Yanchang Formation sandstones might be caused by zircon with high Th and U contents in sandstones rather than from the tuff components.

文摘To study the relative sensitivity of permeability to pore pressure Pp and confining pressure Pc for clay-rich rocks, permeability measurements were performed on samples of four clay-rich sandstones. The effective pressure law (σeff=Pc-nkPp) determined using the slide method gave better results about k(oefr) than classic Terzaghi's law (σeff=Pc-nkPp).

文摘Tight sandstone gas serves as an important unconventional hydrocarbon resource, and outstanding results have been obtained through its discovery both in China and abroad given its great resource potential. Tight gas has served as the primary impetus for global unconventional natural gas exploration and production under existing technical conditions.
文摘Quantitative description of the high-capacity channels in unconsolidated sandstone reservoirs, into which water was injected to improve oil recovery, is a hot topic in the field of reservoir development. This paper presents a novel approach to describing quantitatively the characteristics of connected macropores in unconsolidated sandstone reservoirs using in situ production data. Based on physical simulation for formation mechanisms of high capacity channels and interwell tracer test data, a mathematical model was established to describe high-capacity channels by grey correlation theory, flow mechanism of fluid in porous media and reservoir engineering, and a program was developed to describe quantitatively the channel characteristics. The predicted results were consistent with field monitoring data (80%), so this model could be economically and effectively used to identify high-capacity channels.
文摘A recent seismic event was recorded by a deep longwall mine in Virginia at 3.7 ML on the local magnitude scale and 3.4 MMS by the United States Geological Survey(USGS) in 2016.Further investigations by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH) and Coronado Coal researchers have shown that this event was associated with geological features that have also been associated with other, similar seismic events in Virginia.Detailed mapping and geological exploration in the mining area has made it possible to forecast possible locations for future seismic activity. In order to use the geology as a forecaster of mining-induced seismic events and their energy potential, two primary components are needed. The first component is a long history of recorded seismic events with accurately plotted locations. The second component is a high density of geologic data within the mining area.In this case, 181 events of 1.0 MLor greater were recorded by the mine's seismic network between January, 2009, and October, 2016.Within the mining area, 897 geophysical logs, 224 core holes, and 1031 fiberscope holes were examined by mine geologists. From this information, it was found that overburden thickness, sandstone thickness, and sandstone quality contributed greatly to seismic locations. After the data was analyzed, a pattern became apparent indicating that the majority of seismic events occurred under specific conditions.Three forecast maps were created based on geology of previous seismic locations. The forecast maps have shown an accuracy of within 74%–89% when compared to the recorded 181 events that were1.0 MLor greater when considering three major geological criteria of overburden thickness of 579.12 m or greater, 6.096–12.192 m of sandstone within 15.24 m of the Pocahontas number 3 seam, and a longwall caving height of 4.572 m or less.
文摘The Tarim Basin in China comprises eight sets of sandstone reservoirs, five of which are investigated in detail in this study. This study highlights the potential of applying K-Ar dating of authigenic illites to investigate the timing of hydrocarbon charging histories of the Tarim Basin reservoir sandstones.
文摘The diversity of sandstone diagenesis mechanisms caused by the complex geological conditions of oil/gas basins in China could hardly be reasonably explained by the traditional concept of burial diagenesis. The greater the burial depth, the weaker the fluid effect on compaction for the specific reservoir lithology and the greater the difference in the fluid effects on compaction between different grain sizes.

文摘The paper presents an experimental investigation on the strength behaviour of natural rock subjected to polyaxial state of stress. A probability analysis of the error in prediction was also done.
