Using appropriate transformations for the velocity and temperature, the basic nonlinear partial differential equations are reduced to the ordinary differential equations. Then, these equations have been solved analytically and numerically for some values of the governing parameters, Reynolds number, Re, channel half angle, α, Prandtl number, Pr, and Eckert number, Ec, using Adomian decomposition method and the Runge-Kutta method with mathematic package. Analytical and numerical results are searched for the skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number and the velocity and temperature profiles. It is found on one hand that the Nusselt number increases as Eckert number or channel half-angle increases, but it decreases as Reynolds number increases. On the other hand, it is also found that the presence of Cu nanoparticles in a water base fluid enhances heat transfer between nonparallel plane walls and in consequence the Nusselt number increases with the increase of nanoparticles volume fraction. Finally, an excellent agreement between analytical results and those obtained by numerical Runge-Kutta method is highly noticed.展开更多

The nature of blood in small arteries is analyzed mathematically by considering it as a Carreau nanofluid. The highly nonlinear momentum equations of nanofluid model are simplified by considering the mild stenosis case. The formulated problem is solved by a homotopy perturbation expansion in terms of a variant of the Weissenberg number to obtain explicit forms for the axial velocity, the stream function, the pressure gradient, the resistance impedance and the wall shear stress distribution. These solutions depend on the Brownian motion number, thermophoresis number, local temperature Grashof number G_r and local nanoparticle Grash of number B_r. The results were also studied for various values of the physical parameters, such as the Weissenberg number W_i, the power law index n, the taper angle φ, the maximum height of stenosis δ~*, the angle of inclination α, the maximum height of balloon σ~*, the axial displacement of the balloon z_d~*,the flow rate F and the Froud number Fr. The obtained results show that the transmission of axial velocity curves through a Newtonian fluid(Wi=0, n=1, Gr=0, Br=0, Nt=0, Nb≠0) is substantially lower than that through a Carreau nanofluid near the wall of balloon while the inverse occurs in the region between the balloon and stenosis. The streamlines have a clearly distinguished shifting toward the stenotic region and this shifting appears near the wall of the balloon, while it has almost disappeared near the stenotic wall and the trapping bolus in the case of horizontal arteries and Newtonian fluid(Wi=0, n=1, Gr=0, Br=0, Nt=0, Nb≠0) does not appear but for the case of Carreau nanofluid bolus appears.展开更多

The problem is investigated in two different geometries and the Re=10, 25, 50, 75, 100 and volume fraction 0, 0.2%, 0.5%, 2% and 5% that related to copper nanoparticles, and porous medium porosity of 0.5 and 0.9. Compared to the first geometry, the convective coefficient in the second geometry increases by 8.3%, 7% and 5.5% at Reynolds numbers of 100, 75 and 50, respectively. Comparison of the outlet temperatures for two heat fluxes of 300 and 1200 W/m^2 indicates a 2.5% temperature growth by a fourfold increase in the heat fluxes. Also, the higher Nusselt number is associated with the second geometry occurring at porosities of 0.9 and 0.5, respectively. In both geometries, the Nusselt number values at the porosity of 0.9 are higher, which is due to the increased nanofluid convection at higher porosities. The velocity of the nanofluid experiences a two-fold increase at the outlet compared to its inlet velocity in the first geometry and for both porosities. Similarly, a three-fold increase was achieved in the second geometry and for both porosities.展开更多

文摘In this study,magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) mixed convection effects of Al2O3-water nanofluid flow over a backward-facing step were investigated numerically for various electrical conductivity models of nanofluids.A uniform external magnetic field was applied to the flow and strength of magnetic field was varied with different values of dimensionless parameter Hartmann number (Ha=0,10,20,30,40).Three different electrical conductivity models were used to see the effects of MHD nanofluid flow.Besides, five different inclination angles between 0°-90° is used for the external magnetic field. The problem geometry is a backward-facing step which is used in many engineering applications where flow separation and reattachment phenomenon occurs.Mixed type convective heat transfer of backward-facing step was examined with various values of Richardson number (Ri=0.01,0.1,1,10) and four different nanoparticle volume fractions (Ф=0.01,0.015,0.020,0.025) considering different electrical conductivity models.Finite element method via commercial code COMSOL was used for computations. Results indicate that the addition of nanoparticles enhanced heat transfer significantly. Also increasing magnetic field strength and inclination angle increased heat transfer rate.Effects of different electrical conductivity models were also investigated and it was observed that they have significant effects on the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in the presence of magnetic field.
文摘The study reveals analytically on the 3-dimensional viscous time-dependent gyrotactic bioconvection in swirling nanofluid flow past from a rotating disk.It is known that the deformation of the disk is along the radial direction. In addition to that Stefan blowing is considered. The Buongiorno nanofluid model is taken care of assuming the fluid to be dilute and we find Brownian motion and thermophoresis have dominant role on nanoscale unit. The primitive mass conservation equation, radial, tangential and axial momentum,heat,nano-particle concentration and micro-organism density function are developed in a cylindrical polar coordinate system with appropriate wall(disk surface)and free stream boundary conditions. This highly nonlinear, strongly coupled system of unsteady partial differential equations is normalized with the classical von Kármán and other transformations to render the boundary value problem into an ordinary differential system. The emerging 11th order system features an extensive range of dimensionless flow parameters,i.e.,disk stretching rate,Brownian motion, thermophoresis, bioconvection Lewis number, unsteadiness parameter, ordinary Lewis number,Prandtl number, mass convective Biot number,Péclet number and Stefan blowing parameter.Solutions of the system are obtained with developed semi-analytical technique,i.e.,Adomian decomposition method.Validation of the said problem is also conducted with earlier literature computed by Runge-Kutta shooting technique.
文摘A numerical study based on the finite volume method has been performed to study the three-dimension natural convection in a parallelogrammic top side opened cavity filled nanofluid with partially heated square at the bottom side. Results are obtained for different governing parameters such as nanoparticle concentration (φ) from 0 to 0.05,inclination angle of the back and front walls (α) from 5° to 75°,Rayleigh number from 10^3 to 10^5,and length of heater changer from 0.1 to 1.The main finding from the obtained result showed that the inclination angle and nanoparticle volume fraction affect the flow structure and enhance the heat transfer.

文摘Effective thermal performance of oscillating heat pipe(OHP)is driven by inside pressure distribution.Heat transfer phenomena were reported in terms of pressure and frequency of pressure fluctuation in multi loop OHP charged with aqueous Al2O3 and MWCNTs/Al2O3 nanoparticles. The influences on thermal resistance of aqueous Al2O3,MWCNTs as well as the hybrid of them in OHP having 3 mm in inner diameter were investigated at 60% filling ratio.Experimental results show that thermal characteristics are significantly inter-related with pressure distribution and strongly depend upon the number of pressure fluctuations with time.Frequency of pressure depends upon the power input in evaporative section.A little inclusion of MWCNTs into aqueous Al2O3 at 60% filling ratio achieves the highest fluctuation frequency and the lowest thermal resistance at any evaporator power input though different nanofluids cause different thermal performances of OHPs.
文摘The main objective of this work is to investigate analytically the steady nanofluid flow and heat transfer characteristics between nonparallel plane walls. Finally, an excellent agreement between analytical results and those obtained by numerical Runge-Kutta method is highly noticed.
文摘Kerosene-alumina nanofluid flow and heat transfer in the presence of magnetic field are studied. The basic partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations which are solved semi analytically using differential transformation method. Velocity and temperature profiles as well as the skin friction coefficient and the Nusselt number are determined analytically. The influence of pertinent parameters such as magnetic parameter, nanofluid volume fraction, viscosity parameter and Eckert number on the flow and heat transfer characteristics is discussed. Results indicate that skin friction coefficient decreases with increase of magnetic parameter, nanofluid volume fraction and viscosity parameter. Nusselt number increases with increase of magnetic parameter and nanofluid volume fraction while it decreases with increase of Eckert number and viscosity parameter.
文摘This work is concerned with the analysis of blood flow through inclined catheterized arteries having a balloon(angioplasty) with time-variant overlapping stenosis. The streamlines have a clearly distinguished shifting toward the stenotic region and this shifting appears near the wall of the balloon, while it has almost disappeared near the stenotic wall and the trapping bolus in the case of horizontal arteries and Newtonian fluid(Wi=0, n=1, Gr=0, Br=0, Nt=0, Nb≠0) does not appear but for the case of Carreau nanofluid bolus appears.
文摘In this study, the laminar heat transfer and nanofluid flow between two porous horizontal concentric cylinders was investigated. Similarly, a three-fold increase was achieved in the second geometry and for both porosities.

文摘An analysis of unsteady boundary layer flow and heat transfer over an exponentially shrinking porous sheet filled with a copper-water nanofluid is presented.Water is treated as a base fluid. In the investigation,non-uniform mass suction through the porous sheet is considered.Using Keller-box method the transformed equations are solved numerically. The results of skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number as well as the velocity and temperature profiles are presented for different flow parameters. The results showed that the dual non-similar solutions exist only when certain amount of mass suction is applied through the porous sheet for various unsteady parameters and nanoparticle volume fractions. The ranges of suction where dual non-similar solution exists, become larger when values of unsteady parameter as well as nanoparticle volume fraction increase. So,due to unsteadiness of flow dynamics and the presence of nanoparticles in flow field, the requirement of mass suction for existence of solution of boundary layer flow past an exponentially shrinking sheet is less.Furthermore, the velocity boundary layer thickness decreases and thermal boundary layer thickness increases with increasing of nanoparticle volume fraction in both non-similar solutions.Whereas, for stronger mass suction, the velocity boundary layer thickness becomes thinner for the first solution and the effect is opposite in the case of second solution. The temperature inside the boundary layer increases with nanoparticle volume fraction and decreases with mass suction. So,for the unsteadiness and for the presence of nanoparticles, the flow separation is delayed to some extent.
文摘Nanotechnology is widely used in heat transfer devices to improve thermal performance.Nanofluids can be applied in heat pipes to decrease thermal resistance and achieve a higher heat transfer capability. In the present article,a comprehensive literature review is performed on the nanofluids’ applications in heat pipes.Based on reviewed studies, nanofluids have a high capacity to boost the thermal behavior of various types of heat pipes such as conventional heat pipes, pulsating heat pipes, and thermosyphons.Besides,it is observed that there must be a selected amount of concentration for the high-performance utilization of nanoparticles;high concentration of nanoparticles causes a higher thermal resistance which is mainly attributed to increment in the dynamic viscosity and the higher possibility of particles’ agglomeration.Enhancement in heat transfer performance is the result of increasing in nucleation sites and the intrinsically greater nanofluids’ thermal conductivity.
文摘In this article, the effect of using water/zinc oxide nanofluid as a working fluid on the performance of solar collector is investigated experimentally. The volumetric concentration of nanoparticles is 0.4%,and the particle size is 40 nm,and the mass flow rate of the fluid varies from 1 to 3 kg/min.For this experiment,a device has been prepared with appropriate measuring instruments whose energy source is solar radiation. The solar energy absorbed by the flat plate collector is absorbed by the nanofluid of water/zinc oxide. The nanofluid is pumped to the consumer,a heat exchanger, where it heats the water. The temperature, radiation level, flow rate, and pressure in different parts of the device were measured. The pressure drop and the heat transferred are the most important results of this experimental work. The ASHRAE standard is used to calculate efficiency. The results showed that the use of water/zinc oxide nanofluid increases the collector performance compared to water. For 1 kg/min of mass flow rate, the nanofluids have a 16% increase in efficiency compared to water. From the results,it can be concluded that the choice of optimum mass flow rate in both water and nanofluid cases increases efficiency.
文摘The main goal of this paper is to investigate natural convective heat transfer and flow characteristics of non-Newtonian nanofluid streaming between two infinite vertical flat plates in the presence of magnetic field and thermal radiation.Initially,a similarity transformation is used to convert momentum and energy conservation equations in partial differential forms into non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODE) applying meaningful boundary conditions. In order to obtain the non-linear ODEs analytically,Galerkin method (GM) is employed.Subsequently, the ODEs are also solved by a reliable numerical solution. In order to test the accuracy, precision and reliability of the analytical method, results of the analytical analysis are compared with the numerical results. With respect to the comparisons, fairly good compatibilities with insignificant errors are observed.Eventually, the impacts of effective parameters including magnetic and radiation parameters and nanofluid volume fraction on the velocity, skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number distributions are comprehensively described.Based on the results,it is revealed that with increasing the role of magnetic force, velocity profile, skin friction coefficient and thermal performance descend.Radiation parameter has insignificant influence on velocity profile while it obviously has augmentative and decreasing effects on skin friction and Nusselt number, respectively.
文摘Miniaturization of electronic equipment has forced researchers to devise more effective methods for dissipating the generated heat in these devices. In this study, two methods, including porous media inserting and adding nanoparticles to the base fluid, are used to improve heat transfer in an annulus heated on both walls. To study porous media insert, porous ribs are used on the outer and inner walls independently. The results show that when porous ribs are placed on the outer wall, although the heat transfer enhances, the pressure drop increment is so considerable that performance number (the ratio of heat transfer enhancement pressure increment,PN) is less than unity for all porous rib heights and porous media permeabilities that are studied. On the other hand, the PN of cases where porous ribs were placed on the inner wall depends on the Darcy number (Da).For example, for ribs with Da=0.1 and Da=0.0001,the maximum performance number,PN=4,occurs at the porous ribs height to hydraulic diameter ratios H/Dh=1 and H/Dh=0.25.Under these conditions, heat transfer is enhanced by two orders of magnitude. It is found that adding 5% nanoparticles to the base fluid in the two aforementioned cases improves the Nusselt number and PN by 10%–40%.
