Hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN) and orthorhombic boron nitride(o-BN) were also obtained. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffractometry and Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy. The results show that all the BF3, BCl3 and BBr3 in the same family compounds can react with Li3N to synthesize BN since the strongest bond of B—F can be broken. Compared with BBr3, liquid (C2H5)2O·BF3 is cheaper, less toxic and more convenient to operate. Li3N not only provides nitrogen source but also has catalytic effect on accelerating the formation of c-BN at low temperature and pressure.展开更多

Manmade diamond and CBN are manufactured by the middle of 20th century. Various manufacturing methods and manmade superhard materials were developed later. They were widely used in different industry and science areas. Recently, a new kind of superhard tool material, C 3N 4 coating film, had been developed. American physical scientists, A. M. Liu and M. L. Cohen, designed a new kind of inorganic compound C 3N 4 with the theory of molecule engineering. According to calculation, it can reach or even exceed the hardness of diamond, so material scientists and technique circles draw their attention to it. A high speed steel twist drill coated with C 3N 4 film is applied to the drilling hole process on steel workpiece in cutting tests, the tool life is increased greatly. When the C 3N 4 film is coated on the cemented carbide inserts, the cutting performance is improved, but is not good enough. The data of mechanical performance and cutting tests about this kind of new tool material is given in this paper, it shows that C 3N 4 has a promising future. The anti-wear ability of cutting tool increases sharply after C 3N 4 being coated on HSS tool. Coated HSS drill also has some benefit after being reground. The tool life prolongs after C 3N 4 being coated on cemented carbide inserts, but is not so long as that of C 3N 4 coated HSS tool. When machining PRCM with C 3N 4 thin-film coated cemented carbide tool, the cutting performance is poor and it is much better when machining PRCM with PCBN, PCD compound plates and CVD thick-film coated cutting tool. Some relative aspects need to be deeply discussed and researched, e.g. the existing coating techniques is not good enough and should be improved in the future, the film thickness should be optimized and try to find out the most effective value, the binding force and mutual effect between coated film and substrate need to be studied furtherly, etc.展开更多

In this paper, the influence of thermal stress produced in sintering and mechanical stress formed in lapping process on residual stress in surface of silicon nitride ceramic balls was discussed. The residual compress stress will be formed in the surface of silicon nitride ceramic balls after sintering. The residual tensile stress will be formed in surface of silicon nitride ceramic balls in lapping process, and the size of abrasive particle is smaller, such trend is stronger. In this paper the residual stress was measured by the xylometric measurement in which the material in surface was peeled with lapping. The distribution of residual stress in surface can be calculated with the variation in specific volume. The technological parameter with which the material was peeled by lapping was given, for minimizing the extra influence of the residual stress forming in peeling on the original residual stress in surface, the abrasive particle size would not be too small and the load impressed would not be too large. Some experimental researches on residual stress in surface of silicon nitride ceramic balls were made. The surface of silicon nitride ceramic balls presented residual compressive stress after sintering and the influence of the ball size on the residual stress is feeble. It is expected that the size of ball blank is same for achieving the same residual compressive stress in surface on balls after final machining. In lapping process, the surface of silicon nitride ceramic balls presented residual tensile stress, the larger the load which is impressed on single ball, the larger the amplitude of residual tensile stress is; the smaller the abrasive particle, the stronger the trend of plastic deformation is and the larger the amplitude of residual tensile stress is.展开更多

However, balanced and more powerful propellants lead to accelerated gun barrel erosion and markedly shortened useful barrel life. Boron nitride(BN) is an interesting potential additive for propellants that could reduce gun wear effects in advanced propellants(US patent pending 2015-026P). Hexagonal boron nitride is a good lubricant that can provide wear resistance and lower flame temperatures for gun barrels. Further, boron can dope steel, which drastically improves its strength and wear resistance, and can block the formation of softer carbides. A scalable synthesis method for producing boron nitride nano-particles that can be readily dispersed into propellants has been developed. Even dispersion of the nano-particles in a double-base propellant has been demonstrated using a solvent-based processing approach. Stability of a composite propellant with the BN additive was verified. In this paper, results from propellant testing of boron nitride nano-composite propellants are presented, including closed bomb and wear and erosion testing. Detailed characterization of the erosion tester substrates before and after firing was obtained by electron microscopy, inductively coupled plasma and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. This promising boron nitride additive shows the ability to improve gun wear and erosion resistance without any destabilizing effects to the propellant. Potential applications could include less erosive propellants in propellant ammunition for large, medium and small diameter fire arms.展开更多

文摘For thermally stable or high-temperature operating,Schottky contact utilizing refractory metal nitride,TiN,MoN and ZrN,on n-GaN were evaluated. The refractory metal nitride films were formed by reactive sputtering in Ar and N2 ambient.Current-voltage characteristics show that ideality factors of 1.09-1.22 and barrier heights of 0.66-0.75 eV was obtained for the three metal nitrides. For the ZrN contact, the ideality factor and barrier height of became 1.06 and 0.77 eV,respectively, after 800 ℃ annealing.AlGaN/GaN heterostructure FET with TiN gate was also investigated. No obvious degradation was found for the TiN-gate device even after thermal treatment at 850 ℃.This shows that Schottky contact utilizing refractory metal nitride on GaN has the potential for thermal stability or high-temperature operating.

文摘Cubic boron nitride(c-BN) was synthesized through benzene thermal method at a lower temperature of (300℃) by selecting liquid((C2H5)2O·)BF3 and Li3N as reactants. Li3N not only provides nitrogen source but also has catalytic effect on accelerating the formation of c-BN at low temperature and pressure.

文摘Visible-light-driven ZnGaNO solid solution–carbon nitride intercalation compound(CNIC) composite photocatalyst was synthesized via a mixing and heating method. The composite photocatalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM), Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV-vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy and BET surface area measurements. The activity of ZnGaNO–CNIC composite photocatalyst for photodegradation of methyl orange(MO) is higher than that of either single-phase CNIC or ZnGaNO solid solution. The as-prepared composite photocatalysts exhibit an improved photocatalytic activity due to enhancement for the separation and transport of photo-generated electron–hole pairs.

文摘Novel organic-inorganic composite photocatalyst offers new opportunities in the practical applications of photocatalysis. Novel visible light-induced Cr-doped Sr Ti O3–carbon nitride intercalation compound(CNIC) composite photocatalysts were synthesized. The composite photocatalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM), Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV-vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy, photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy, and BET surface area analyzer. The photocatalytic oxidation ability of the novel composite photocatalyst was evaluated using methyl orange(MO) as a target pollutant. The photocatalysts exhibited a significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance in degrading MO. For maximizing the photodegradation activity of the composite photocatalysts, the optimal CNIC content was determined. The improved photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared Cr-doped Sr Ti O3–CNIC composite photocatalyst may be attributed to the enhancement of photo-generated electron–hole separations at the interface.

文摘High-density AlN ceramics were fabricated without sintering additives at high pressure(5.0 GPa) and temperature(1300~1800℃).The sintered bodies were characterized by XRD,SEM and micro-Raman spectroscopy(MRS).Controlling fracture mode was intragranular when the sintering temperature was as low as 1400℃under 5.0 GPa.The values of residual stresses due to the distortion of the AlN lattice were assessed using the Micro-Raman Spectroscopy(MRS).The residual compression stress of the AlN ceramics sintered at 5.0 GPaand 1700℃for 125 min is 2.0 GPa.The residual compression stress is increased according to the extension of the sintering time.
文摘There were only two kinds of superhard tool material at the past, i.e. diamond and cubic boron nitride (CBN). Some relative aspects need to be deeply discussed and researched, e.g. the existing coating techniques is not good enough and should be improved in the future, the film thickness should be optimized and try to find out the most effective value, the binding force and mutual effect between coated film and substrate need to be studied furtherly, etc.
文摘The influence of the residual stress in surface of ceramic balls on the fatigue life is large, because the life of silicon nitride ball bearings is more sensitive to the load acted on the bearings than the life of all-steel ball bearings. In lapping process, the surface of silicon nitride ceramic balls presented residual tensile stress, the larger the load which is impressed on single ball, the larger the amplitude of residual tensile stress is; the smaller the abrasive particle, the stronger the trend of plastic deformation is and the larger the amplitude of residual tensile stress is.

文摘Cubic boron nitride(CBN) micro powders and mixture of CBN micro powders with Al or Ti powders were fast heated at 1 300,1 400,1 450,1 500℃,and then kept for 5 min under spark plasma sintering (SPS).The obtained powders were analyzed with XRD.The results show that, simple CBN kept cubic structure after heated at 1 300℃;when the temperature rose to 1 400℃,some CBN was transformed into hexagonal structured boron nitride(hBN).As for CBN micro powders mixed with aluminum or titanium micro powders, the onset transforming temperature of CBN to hBN get raised. This results indicated that the structural transformation of boron nitride begun from the surface of CBN crystal particle, different coexist elements affect the surface situation of CBN particles. As the stabilities of CBN crystal particle surface improved, the onset structural transform temperature of CBN was also increased.

文摘The U.S. military has a need for more powerful propellants with balanced/stoichiometric amounts of fuel and oxidants. Potential applications could include less erosive propellants in propellant ammunition for large, medium and small diameter fire arms.
文摘The zirconium(Zr)alloy fuel cladding is one of the key structural components of a nuclear reactor and the first and most important line of defense for accommodating fission products.During the operation of nuclear reactors,Zr alloy fuel cladding is subjected to extreme harsh environments, such as high temperature, high pressure and high flow rate for a long period of time. The wear and corrosion resistance of Zr alloys is important for the safe operation of nuclear reactors.Surface modification can effectively improve the corrosion and wear resistance of fuel cladding.Compared with coating technology, nitriding technology does not have problems for bonding between the coating and the substrate.Current research on surface nitriding of Zr alloys mainly focuses on plasma nitriding and ion implantation techniques.Research on laser nitriding of Zr alloy surfaces and their fretting wear characteristics is scarce. In this study, the surface of Zr alloy was treated with laser nitriding at different laser energies. The microstructure of Zr alloy treated with different laser energies and its fretting wear performance were studied. The results showed that after nitriding with different laser energies, the surface of the Zr alloy showed a typical molten state after melting, vaporizing and cooling under the thermal effect of the laser, and this state was more obvious with the increase of the laser energy. At the same time, doping of N atoms and formation of the ZrN phase led to different cooling rates in the molten zone that produced large tensile stresses after cooling. This led to cracks on the surface of Zr alloys after laser nitriding at different energies, and the crack density increased with increasing laser energy. This also led to an increase in the surface roughness of the Zr alloy with increasing laser energy after laser nitriding treatment.Due to the presence of water in the industrial nitrogen, nitrides were generated on the surface of the sample along with some oxides. When the laser energy was 100 mJ,there was no ZrN generation, and N existed mainly as a diffusion layer within the Zr alloy substrate.ZrN generated when the laser energy reached 200 mJ and above, which increased with the increase of laser energy.Due to the generation of ZrN phase and the presence of some oxides, the surface Vickers hardness of Zr alloys after laser nitriding treatment at different energies increased by 37.5%compared to Zr alloys. After laser nitriding treatment, the wear mechanism of Zr alloys changed. For the untreated Zr alloys, the wear mechanism was dominated by delamination and spalling wear, accompanied by oxidative and abrasive wear. The phenomenon of delamination and peeling decreased with the increase of laser energy.Wear mechanisms changed to predominantly abrasive wear with oxidative wear and delamination spalling. The wear volume of sample nitriding with laser energy 400 mJ was reduced by 46.5%compared with that of untreated Zr alloy.
文摘The group Ⅲ nitrides are an important class of materials with aplications in UV and visible optoelectronics, high temperature electronics, cold cathodes and solar blind detectors. In recent years, with the realisation of nitride based LEDs,the use of GaN IED has the potential to compete with 1raditional filament and discharge lamps, for the provision of white lighting, and there has been an explosion of interest in the MOCVD growth of GaN based materials with an increasing focus on large area multiwafer reactors and wafer uniforrmity. This paper will review the design philosophy and characteristics of close-coupled showerhead reactors, relating these to the requirements of group Ⅲ-nitride growth, and will present a selection of data resulting from the operation of such equipment. These results suggest that the close coupled showerhead style of reactor is very suitable for the growth of GaN based structures in both research and production environments.
