Bryophytes have essential ecological functions in tropical forest ecosystems, but knowledge of the potential impact of global warming and possible changes in water availability patterns on terrestrial bryophytes is limited. We transplanted eight terres- trial moss species from two elevations (900 and 500 m) to warmer and drier elevations (500 and 100 m) during a halfyear observation period on Tai Mo Shan, southern China. The simulated climate change resulted in severely declined health status and marked decrease in growth of the trans- planted species when compared with their performance at the original elevations. Five of the eight selected species survived for six months after being transplanted to the warmer and drier lowlands, though their health status deteriorated severely. Sematophyllum subhumile , Pseudotaxiphyllum pohliaecarpum and Brachythecium buchananii were highly susceptible to changes in temperature and rainfall patterns and might be used as suitable bioindicators. As the tropics are expected to become hotter and drier, terrestrial mosses might be negatively affected or even be at risk of extinction. Bryophytes in the tropics could represent one of the best biological communities to reflect the direct adverse impact of climate change and provide early warning of the biological outcomes induced by ongoing climate crisis.展开更多

The transition metal dichalcogenides(TMD)monolayers have shown strong second-harmonic generation(SHG)ow-ing to their lack of inversion symmetry.These ultrathin layers then serve as the frequency converters that can be...The transition metal dichalcogenides(TMD)monolayers have shown strong second-harmonic generation(SHG)ow-ing to their lack of inversion symmetry.These ultrathin layers then serve as the frequency converters that can be intergraded on a chip.Here,taking MoSSe as an example,we report the first detailed experimental study of the SHG of Janus TMD monolayer,in which the transition metal layer is sandwiched by the two distinct chalcogen layers.It is shown that the SHG effectively arises from an in-plane second-harmonic polarization under paraxial focusing and detection.Based on this,the orientation-resolved SHG spectroscopy is realized to readily determine the zigzag and armchair axes of the Janus crystal with an accuracy better than±0.6°.Moreover,the SHG intensity is wavelength-dependent and can be greatly enhanced(~60 times)when the two-photon transition is resonant with the C-exciton state.Our findings uncover the SHG properties of Janus MoSSe monolayer,therefore lay the basis for its integrated frequency-doubling applications.展开更多
We investigated non-structural carbohydrates(NSC) levels and components(starch,glucose,fructose and sucrose) in the leaves of three typical co-occurring forestfloor plants,moss Eurhynchium savatieri(ES),fern Par...We investigated non-structural carbohydrates(NSC) levels and components(starch,glucose,fructose and sucrose) in the leaves of three typical co-occurring forestfloor plants,moss Eurhynchium savatieri(ES),fern Parathelypteris nipponica(PN) and forb Aruncus sylvester(AS) in a 30-year-old Chinese pine(Pinus tabulaeformis)plantation forest on the eastern Tibetan Plateau.We also explored their responses to three gap creation treatments(control and two gap creations of 80 and 110 m2) based on NSC levels.PN had the highest leaf NSC level of the three plants,with AS second and ES lowest.Starch was the predominant component of NSC and the contents of glucose were higher than those of fructose or sucrose for all three species.The NSC level of ES in intermediate gaps was significantly higher than at control sites.PN also had higher NSC levels in both small and intermediate gaps than in control sites.But the differences between treatments were not obvious for AS.Our results suggest that ES and PN benefit from gap formation while the two species have different NSC response sensitivities to gap size,but the leaf NSC level of AS is less sensitive to the disturbance.展开更多
