In the context of deep rock engineering, the in-situ stress state is of major importance as it plays an important role in rock dynamic response behavior. Thus, stress initialization becomes crucial and is the first step for the dynamic response simulation of rock mass in a high in-situ stress field. In this paper, stress initialization methods, including their principles and operating procedures for reproducing steady in-situ stress state in LS-DYNA,are first introduced. Then the most popular four methods,i.e.,explicit dynamic relaxation(DR)method,implicit-explicit sequence method,Dynain file method and quasi-static method, are exemplified through a case analysis by using the RHT and plastic hardening rock material models to simulate rock blasting under in-situ stress condition.Based on the simulations,it is concluded that the stress initialization results obtained by implicit-explicit sequence method and dynain file method are closely related to the rock material model, and the explicit DR method has an obvious advantage in solution time when compared to other methods.Besides that,it is recommended to adopt two separate analyses for the whole numerical simulation of rock mass under the combined action of in-situ stress and dynamic disturbance. 展开更多

Fetr6 is an underground mine using the stope-and-pillar mining method. As there was some evidence regarding pillar failure in this mine, improving works such as roof support and replacing existing pillars with concrete pillars (CP) were carried out. During the construction of the second CP, in the space between the remaining pillars, one of the pillars failed leading to the progressive failure of other pillars until 4 000 m 2 of mine had collapsed within a few minutes. In this work, this phenomenon is described by applying both numerical and empirical methods and the respective results are compared. The results of numerical modelling are found to be closer to the actual condition than those of the empirical method. Also, a width-to-height (W/H) ratio less than 1, an inadequate support system and the absence of a detailed program for pillar recovery are shown to be the most important causes of the Domino failure in this mine. 展开更多

Several parameter identification methods of thermal response test were evaluated through numerical and experimental study.A three-dimensional finite-volume numerical model was established under the assumption that the soil thermal conductivity had been known in the simulation of thermal response test. The thermal response curve was firstly obtained through numerical calculation. Then, the accuracy of the numerical model was verified with measured data obtained through a thermal response test.Based on the numerical and experimental thermal response curves, the thermal conductivity of the soil was calculated by different parameter identification methods. The calculated results were compared with the assumed value and then the accuracy of these methods was evaluated.Furthermore, the effects of test time, variable data quality, borehole radius, initial ground temperature, and heat injection rate were analyzed. The results show that the method based on cylinder-source model has a low precision and the identified thermal conductivity decreases with an increase in borehole radius. For parameter estimation, the measuring accuracy of the initial temperature of the deep ground soil has greater effect on identified thermal conductivity. 展开更多

This paper deals with the numerical solution of initial value problems for systems of differential equations with two delay terms. We investigate the stability of adaptations of the θ-methods in the numerical solution of test equations u'(t) = a 11 u(t) + a12v(t) + b11 u(t - τ1) + b12v(t-τ2,v'(t) = a21 u(t) + a22 v(t) + b21 u(t -τ1,) + b22 v(t -τ2), t>0,with initial conditionsu(t)=u0(t),v(t) =v0(t), t≤0.where aij, bij∈C, τj >0, i,j = 1,2,, and u0(t), v0(t)are continuous and complex valued. Sufficient conditions for the asymptotic stability of test equation are derived. Furthermore, with respect to an appropriate definition of stability for the numerical method, it is proved that the linear θ-method is stable if and only if 1/2≤θ≤1 and the one-leg θ-method is stable if and only if θ= 1. 展开更多

A class of modified parallel combined methods of real-time numerical simulation are presented for a stiff dynamic system. By combining the parallelism across the system with the parallelism across the method, and relaxing the dependence of stage value computation on sampling time of input function, a class of modified real-time parallel combined methods are constructed. Stiff and nonstiff subsystems are solved in parallel on a parallel computer by a parallel Rosen-brock method and a parallel RK method, respectively. Their order conditions and convergences are discussed. The numerical simulation experiments show that this class of modified algorithms can get high speed and efficiency. 展开更多

A two-dimensional axisymmetric model, employing a dynamic mesh and user-defined functions, is used to numerically simulate the transient multiphase flow field produced by an underwater gun. Furthermore, a visualized shooting experiment platform with a high-speed camera is built to observe the evolution process of such a multiphase flow field. The simulated phase distribution diagram is agreed well with the shadow photo of the experiment, indicating that the numerical model is reasonable. Further examinations of the multiphase flow fields by using the submerged and sealed launch methods show that use of the sealed launch can significantly improve the interior ballistic performance of an underwater gun. In the cases by using these two types of underwater launch methods, the displacement of the projectile within the range of the muzzle flow field meets the exponential law over time. Moreover, a not fully developed bottle-shaped shock wave is formed when t = 0.4 ms, but this bottle-shaped shock wave expands more rapidly for the sealed launch. In addition, the amplitude of pressure oscillation for the sealed launch is larger than that of the submerged launch, but the pressure oscillation of the sealed launch lasts shorter. 展开更多

The graded density impactor(GDI)dynamic loading technique is crucial for acquiring the dynamic physical property parameters of materials used in weapons. The accuracy and timeliness of GDI structural design are key to achieving controllable stress-strain rate loading. In this study,we have, for the first time, combined one-dimensional fluid computational software with machine learning methods. We first elucidated the mechanisms by which GDI structures control stress and strain rates.Subsequently,we constructed a machine learning model to create a structure-property response surface. The results show that altering the loading velocity and interlayer thickness has a pronounced regulatory effect on stress and strain rates. In contrast, the impedance distribution index and target thickness have less significant effects on stress regulation, although there is a matching relationship between target thickness and interlayer thickness.Compared with traditional design methods, the machine learning approach offers a10^(4)—10^(5)times increase in efficiency and the potential to achieve a global optimum, holding promise for guiding the design of GDI. 展开更多

To address the problems of low accuracy by the CONWEP model and poor efficiency by the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian(CEL)method in predicting close-range air blast loads of cylindrical charges,a neural network-based simulation(NNS)method with higher accuracy and better efficiency was proposed. The NNS method consisted of three main steps.First, the parameters of blast loads, including the peak pressures and impulses of cylindrical charges with different aspect ratios(L/D)at different stand-off distances and incident angles were obtained by two-dimensional numerical simulations.Subsequently, incident shape factors of cylindrical charges with arbitrary aspect ratios were predicted by a neural network. Finally, reflected shape factors were derived and implemented into the subroutine of the ABAQUS code to modify the CONWEP model, including modifications of impulse and overpressure. The reliability of the proposed NNS method was verified by related experimental results.Remarkable accuracy improvement was acquired by the proposed NNS method compared with the unmodified CONWEP model. Moreover, huge efficiency superiority was obtained by the proposed NNS method compared with the CEL method. The proposed NNS method showed good accuracy when the scaled distance was greater than 0.2 m/kg^(1/3).It should be noted that there is no need to generate a new dataset again since the blast loads satisfy the similarity law,and the proposed NNS method can be directly used to simulate the blast loads generated by different cylindrical charges. The proposed NNS method with high efficiency and accuracy can be used as an effective method to analyze the dynamic response of structures under blast loads, and it has significant application prospects in designing protective structures. 展开更多

In this paper,we construct two fully decoupled,second-order semi-discrete numerical schemes for the Boussinesq equations based on the scalar auxiliary variable(SAV)approach.By introducing a scalar auxiliary variable, the original Boussinesq system is transformed into an equivalent one. Then we discretize it using the second-order backward di erentiation formula(BDF2)and Crank-Nicolson(CN)to obtain two second-order time-advanced schemes. In both numerical schemes,a pressure-correction method is employed to decouple the velocity and pressure. These two schemes possess the desired property that they can be fully decoupled with satisfying unconditional stability. We rigorously prove both the unconditional stability and unique solvability of the discrete schemes.Furthermore,we provide detailed implementations of the decoupling procedures. Finally, various 2D numerical simulations are performed to verify the accuracy and energy stability of the proposed schemes. 展开更多

To advance the understanding of the corrosion behavior of stainless steel bellows in marine atmospheric environments and enhance the precision of service life predictions, this study employs finite element simulations to investigate the pitting corrosion rates and pit morphologies of bellows peaks and troughs under varying electrolyte film thicknesses. The model incorporates localized electrochemical reactions, oxygen concentration, and homogeneous solution reactions. For improved computational accuracy, the fitted polarization curve data were directly applied as nonlinear boundary conditions on the electrode surface via interpolation functions.Simulation results reveal that the peak regions exhibit faster corrosion rates than the trough regions. With increasing electrolyte film thickness(from 10μm to 500μm),corrosion rates at both peaks and troughs decrease progressively, and after 120 hours of simulation, the maximum corrosion rate at the peaks declines from 0.720 mm/a to 0.130 mm/a,and at the troughs from 0.520 mm/a to 0.120 mm/a,with the disparity in corrosion rates diminishing over time.Furthermore,as corrosion progresses, pits propagate deeper into the substrate, exhibiting both vertical penetration and lateral expansion along the passive film interface, ultimately breaching the substrate. This research offers valuable insights into designing corrosion mitigation strategies for stainless steel bellows in marine environments. 展开更多

With different structural forms of ventilation pipes have various attenuation effects on incident shock waves while meeting ventilation requirements. The attenuation mechanism and the propagation law of shock waves in ventilation pipes of different structures are investigated by experiments and numerical simulations.Furthermore, for the same structure, the effects of peak pressure and positive pressure time on the attenuation rate are discussed. It is found that the attenuation rate increases with the incident shock wave pressure, and the shock wave attenuation rate tends to reach its limiting value k for the same structure and reasonably short positive pressure time.Under the same conditions, the attenuation rate is calculated using the pressure of the shock wave as follows:diffusion chamber pipe, branch pipe and selfconsumption pipe;the attenuation rate per unit volume is calculated as follows:self-consumption pipe, branch pipe and diffusion chamber pipe.In addition,an easy method is provided to calculate the attenuation rate of the shock wave in single and multi-stage ventilation pipes.Corresponding parameters are provided for various structures, and the margin of error between the formulae and experimental results is within 10%,which is significant for engineering applications. 展开更多

The internal and external flow fields during vented explosions of methane were characterized through numerical simulation, and the capability of numerical simulation thereof was validated by previous experimental data at three ignition positions. The venting mechanism was revealed by the simulated concentration distribution, temperature profile, and airflow velocity. The results show rear ignition results in the external methane mass distribution taking the form of"mushroom"and columnar flames in the external space, which can be expressed as a third-order polynomial relationship with distance;central ignition forms a relationship of the form y=AxB.Front ignition causes the temperature to show a tendency to repeated oscillations(rising, falling, and rising).Central ignition generates the maximum vented airflow velocity(V_(max)=320 m/s)upon vent opening. The results indicate that it is acceptable to apply numerical simulation of methane explosions in practice. 展开更多

To explore the design criteria for composite charges and reveal the intrinsic relationship between the detonation wave propagation in composite charges and the overall energy distribution of shock waves, this study analyzes the propagation and interaction processes of detonation waves in composite charges with different structural dimensions and explosive combinations. It also investigates the spatial distribution characteristics of the resulting shock wave loads. Based on dimensional analysis theory, a theoretical analysis of the shock wave overpressure distribution in free air fields is conducted. Utilizing the derived dimensionless function relationships, the hydrocode AUTODYN is employed to investigate the effects of charge structure parameters and explosive combinations on the internal overdriven detonation phenomena and the distribution of shock wave loads. It is found that the overdriven detonation phenomenon in the inner layer of composite charges increases the strength of the axial detonation wave, thereby enhancing the intensity of the primary end wave formed upon refraction into the air, which affects the distribution characteristics of the shock wave overpressure. Research has shown that increasing the thickness ratio and detonation velocity ratio of composite charges is beneficial for exacerbating the phenomenon of overdriven detonation, improving the primary end wave intensity and axial overpressure. This gain effect gradually weakens with the propagation of shock waves. When overdriven detonation occurs inside the composite charge, the detonation pressure first increases and then decreases. The Mach reflection pressure of the composite charge with a larger aspect ratio is attenuated to a greater extent. In addition, as the aspect ratio of the composite charge increases, the shock wave energy gradually flows from the axial direction to the radial direction. Therefore, as the aspect ratio of the composite charge increases, the primary end wave intensity and axial overpressure gradually decrease. 展开更多

Most of the existing studies on tunnel blast wave are based on spherical or grouped charges, however, conventional weapons are mostly cylindrical rather than spherical. In order to analyze the impact of cylindrical charges on the tunnel blast wave loads and to develop a quantitative calculation method, this study carried out experimental and numerical research. Initially, external explosion experiments were conducted using both 35 kg spherical charges and cylindrical charges with aspect ratio of 4.8 at two different distances from the tunnel entrance. Comparative analysis of the blast wave parameters in the tunnel revealed that the explosive equivalent of the cylindrical charges was significantly higher than that of the spherical charges. To address this, an equivalent coefficient κ based on the spherical charges was proposed for the cylindrical charges. Subsequently, numerical simulations were conducted for the experimental conditions, and the numerical simulation results match the experiments well. Through numerical calculations, the reliability of the equivalent coefficient κ under the experimental conditions was verified, and comparison analysis indicated that the explosion energy of cylindrical charges spreads more radially, resulting in more explosion energy entering the tunnel, which is the fundamental reason for the increase in tunnel blast wave loads. Additionally, analyzing the explosion energy ratio entering the tunnel is an effective method for calculating the equivalent coefficient κ. Finally, through more than one hundred sets of numerical calculation results, the impact of the proportional distance λ and the ratio of charge mass to the tunnel cross-section dimension φ on the equivalence coefficients κ was investigated. An empirical formula for the equivalence coefficient κ was derived through fitting, and the accuracy of the formula was validated through literature experimental results. The research findings of this paper will provide valuable guidance for the calculation of blast wave loads in tunnel. 展开更多

The detonation of fuel-rich explosives yields combustible products that persistently burn upon mixing with ambient oxygen, releasing additional energy through a phenomenon known as the afterburning effect. This process greatly influences the evolution of confined blast loading and the subsequent structural response, which is crucial in confined blast scenarios.Given the complex nature of the reaction process, accurate analysis of the afterburning effect remains challenging.Previous studies have either overlooked the mechanisms of detonation product combustion or failed to provide experimental validation. This study introduces a three-dimensional model to effectively characterize the combustion of detonation products. The model integrates chemical reaction source terms into the governing equations to consider the combustion processes.Numerical simulations and experimental tests were conducted to analyze the combustion and energy release from the detonation products of fuel-rich explosives in confined spaces.Approximately 50%of the energy was released during the combustion of detonation products in a confined TNT explosion.Although the combustion of these products was much slower than the detonation process,it aligned with the dynamic response of the structure, which enhanced the explosive yield.Excluding afterburning from the analysis reduced the center-point deformation of the structure by 30%.Following the inclusion of afterburning, the simulated quasistatic pressure increased by approximately 45%.Subsequent comparisons highlighted the merits of the proposed approach over conventional methods. This approach eliminates the reliance on empirical parameters, such as the amount and rate of energy release during afterburning, thereby laying the foundation for understanding load evolution in more complex environments, such as ships, buildings, and underground tunnels. 展开更多

In the present study,two-layered stainless steel-copper composites with a thickness of 50μm were initially subjected to annealing at 800,900 and 1000℃for 5 min, respectively,to achieve diverse microstructural features. Then the influence of annealing temperature on the formability of stainless steel-copper composites and the quality of micro composite cups manufactured by micro deep drawing(MDD)were investigated, and the underlying mechanism was analyzed.Three finite element(FE)models, including basic FE model,Voronoi FE model and surface morphological FE model, were developed to analyze the forming performance of stainless steel-copper composites during MDD.The results show that the stainless steel-copper composites annealed at 900℃possess the best plasticity owing to the homogeneous and refined microstructure in both stainless steel and copper matrixes, and the micro composite cup with specimen annealed at 900℃exhibits a uniform wall thickness as well as high surface quality with the fewest wrinkles. The results obtained from the surface morphological FE model considering material inhomogeneity and surface morphology of the composites are the closest to the experimental results compared to the basic and Voronoi FE model.During MDD process, the drawing forces decrease with increasing annealing temperature as a consequence of the strength reduction. 展开更多

An analysis of the interaction mechanisms between a Shaped Charge Jet(SCJ) and a single Moving Plate(MP) is proposed in this article using both experimental and numerical approaches. First, an experimental set-up is presented. Four collision tests have been performed: two tests in Backward Moving Plate(BMP) configuration, where the plate moves in opposition to jet, and two tests in Forward Moving Plate(FMP) configuration, where the plate moves alongside the jet. Based on the virtual origin approximation,a methodology(the Virtual Origin Method, VOM) is developed to extract quantities from the X-ray images, which serve as comparative data. γSPH simulations are carried out to complete the analysis, as they well capture the disturbance dynamics observed in the experiments. Based on these complementary experimental and numerical results, a new physical description is proposed through a detailed analysis of the interaction. It is shown that the SCJ/MP interaction is driven at first order by the contact geometry. Thus, BMP and FMP configurations do not generate the same disturbances because their local flow geometries are different. In the collision point frame of reference, the BMP flows in the same direction as the jet, causing its overall deflection. On the contrary, the FMP flow opposes that of the jet leading to an alternative creation of fragments and ligaments. An in-depth study, using the VOM shows that deflection angles, fragment-ligament creation frequencies, and deflection velocities evolve as the interaction progresses through slower jet elements. 展开更多
