Simulation and Experimental Analysis of Mechanical Properties of a Bidirectional Adjustable Magnetorheological Fluid Damper

The aim of this study is to address the issues associated with traditional magnetorheological fluid(MRF)dampers,such as insufficient damping force after power failure and susceptibility to settlement.In order to achieve this,a bidirectional adjustable MRF damper was designed and developed.Magnetic field simulation analysis was conducted on the damper,along with simulation analysis on its dynamic characteristics.The dynamic characteristics were ultimately validated through experimental testing on the material testing machine,thereby corroborating the theoretical simulation results.Concurrently,this process generated valuable test data for subsequent implementation of the semi-active vibration control system.The simulation and test results demonstrate that the integrated permanent magnet effectively accomplishes bidirectional regulation.The magnetic induction intensity of the damping channel is 0.2 T in the absence of current,increases to 0.5 T when a maximum forward current of 4 A is applied,and becomes 0 T when a maximum reverse current of 3.8 A is applied.When the excitation amplitude is 8 mm and the frequency is 2 Hz,with the applied currents varying,the maximum damping force reaches 8 kN,while the minimum damping force measures at 511 N.Additionally,at zero current,the damping force stands at 2 kN,which aligns closely with simulation results.The present paper can serve as a valuable reference for the design and research of semi-active MRF dampers. 展开更多

Modeling and characterization of novel magnetorheological(MR) cell with individual currents

Magnetorheological(MR) cell with multi-coil was designed to enlarge the range of controllable transmission torque by increasing the effective length. Individual input current was proposed to maximize its potential for reducing power consumption and generating large yield stress. Finite element analysis was performed to analyze magnetic field distribution, based on which a prototype MR cell was fabricated and tested to investigate the performance of various combinations of individual input currents. A good correlation was identified between experimental results and FEA predications. The results show that the power consumption can be reduced to 42.4%, maintaining large transmission torque, by distributing the total current(2 A) to three individual magnetic coils. In addition, optimal results of four input currents considering a multi-objective function are obtained by changing the weighting factor λ. The advantage of this design, such as lower power consumption and more control flexibility, makes it more competitive in engineering applications that require large energy consumption. 展开更多

Based on the distribution characteristic of magnetic field along the polish wheel,the four-axis linkage technique is advanced to replace a standard five-axis one to figure low-gradient optical surfaces with a raster tool-path in magnetorheological finishing(MRF).After introducing the fundaments of such simplification,the figuring reachability of a four-axis system for the low-gradient optics was theoretically analyzed.Further validation including magnetic field intensity and influence function characteristic was performed to establish its application.To demonstrate the correctness,feasibility and applicability of such technique,a K4 spherical part was figured by two iterations of MRF with surface form error improved to 0.219λPV and 0.027λRMS.Meanwhile,the surface roughness was also improved a lot in MRF process.These theoretical analyses and experimental results both indicate that high form accuracy and excellent surface quality can be obtained by using the four-axis linkage technique in the process of figuring low-gradient optical elements,and the four-axis linkage system undoubtedly is much more easy to control and much more economical. 展开更多

Magnetorheological(MR)materials are a class of smart material,whose the mechanical/rheological state can be controlled under a magnetic field.Magnetorheological materials are typically fluids,gels,or elastomers.In this study,anisotropic and isotropic magneto-rheological elastomer(MRE)samples were fabricated using a silicone rubber matrix with carbonyl iron particles as filler particles.The magnetic field-dependent inductance properties of these samples were studied using inductors specially designed for the analysis.The effect of the filler particle content,fabrication conditions,and inductance properties were characterized using a self-built system in both constant and transient magnetic fields.These factors show a significant effect on the inductance properties of the MRE inductor under an applied magnetic field.The anisotropic MRE inductor was more sensitive than the inductor based on an isotropic MRE.Owing to the presence of a constant magnetic field,the inductance value of the MRE inductor decreased with an increase in the external magnetic field.An attempt in elucidation of the mechanism is reported here.This study may enable the MRE to be widely used in practical applications such as monitoring magnetic field or detecting the filler particle content inside MR materials. 展开更多

In order to improve the screening efficiency of vibrating screen and make vibration process smooth,a new type of magnetorheological (MR) damper was proposed. The signals of displacement in the vibration process during the test were collected. The trispectrum model of autoregressive (AR) time series was built and the correlation dimension was used to quantify the fractal characteristics during the vibration process. The result shows that,in different working conditions,trispectrum slices are applied to obtaining the information of non-Gaussian,nonlinear amplitude?frequency characteristics of the signal. Besides,there is correlation between the correlation dimension of vibration signal and trispectrum slices,which is very important to select the optimum working parameters of the MR damper and vibrating screen. And in the experimental conditions,it is found that when the working current of MR damper is 2 A and the rotation speed of vibration motor is 800 r/min,the vibration screen reaches its maximum screening efficiency. 展开更多

Characteristic analysis of magnetorheological fluid based on different carriers

In order to prepare special MRFs to satisfy the demands of tracked vehicle,two different carrier fluids were used to prepare MRFs.Preparation of MRF,which are based on carrier of special shock absorption fluid and 45# transformer oil,was finished.And characteristics of these samples were tested and analyzed.The results show that Tween-80 and Span-80 can improve the sedimentary stability,and the larger mass fraction can also increase the sedimentary stability.Using 45# transformer oil instead of special shock absorption fluid as a carrier of MRF,the shear yield stress remains nearly constant but the viscosity and the sedimentary stability are reduced.The MRF with diameter of 2.73 μm shows better sedimentary stability than that of the MRF with diameter of 2.30 μm,or 4.02 μm.Stearic acid obviously improves sedimentary stability and off-state viscosity,but has no function on the shear yield stress.In magnetic field of 237 kA/m,the shear yield stress of MRF based on special shock absorption fluid is 18.34 kPa and the shear yield stress of MRF based on 45# transformer oil is 14.26 kPa. 展开更多

Vibration isolation is an effective method to mitigate unwanted disturbances arising from dynamic loading conditions. With smart materials as suitable substitutes, the conventional passive isolators have attained attributes of semi-active as well as the active control system. In the present study, the non-homogenous field-dependent isolation capabilities of the magnetorheological elastomer are explored under torsional vibrations. Torsional natural frequency was measured using the serial arrangement of accelerometers. Novel methods are introduced to evaluate the torsional stiffness variations of the isolator for a semi-definite and a motor-coupled rotor system. For the semi-definite system, the isolation effect was studied using the frequency response functions from the modal analysis. The speed-dependent variations for motor-coupled rotor system were assessed using the shift in frequency amplitudes from torque transducers. Finite element method magnetics was used to study the variations in the non-homogenous magnetic field across the elastomer. The response functions for the semi-definite rotor system reveal a shift in the frequency in the effect of the magnetic field. Speed-dependent variations in the frequency domain indicate an increment of 9% in the resonant frequency of the system. 展开更多

The preparation of natural rubber based isotropic thick magnetorheological elastomers(MRE) was focused on by varying the percentage volume concentration of carbonyl iron powder and developing a test set up to test the dynamic properties. Effect of magnetic field on the damping ratio was studied on the amplification region of the transmissibility curve. The viscoelastic dynamic damping nature of the elastomer was also studied by analyzing the force-displacement hysteresis graphs. The results show that MR effect increases with the increase in magnetic field as well as carbonyl iron powder particle concentration. It is observed that softer matrix material produces more MR effect. A maximum of 125% improvement in the loss factor is observed for the MRE with 25% carbonyl iron volume concentration. FEMM simulation shows that as carbonyl iron particle distribution becomes denser, MR effect is improved. FEMM analysis also reveals that if the distance between the adjacent iron particles are reduced from 20 μm to 10 μm, a 40% increase in stored energy is observed. 展开更多

该研究旨在精确预测磁流变抛光K9玻璃加工过程中的材料去除率,并找到最佳工艺参数组合。采用了响应面法(RSM)与粒子群优化算法(PSO)相结合的方法建立了材料去除率预测模型,并进行了最优工艺参数的搜索。首先,利用响应面法构建了动态预... 该研究旨在精确预测磁流变抛光K9玻璃加工过程中的材料去除率,并找到最佳工艺参数组合。采用了响应面法(RSM)与粒子群优化算法(PSO)相结合的方法建立了材料去除率预测模型,并进行了最优工艺参数的搜索。首先,利用响应面法构建了动态预测模型,将工件转速、偏摆速度和工作间隙作为输入,K9玻璃的材料去除率作为输出,并研究了工艺参数与材料去除率之间的交互影响。随后,利用粒子群优化算法进行全局寻优,并通过实验验证了最优工艺参数。结果表明:构建的动态预测模型具有高精度,相关系数R^(2)=0.9887,调整决定系数R_(adj)^(2)=0.9388。各工艺参数与材料去除率均存在交互作用,但工件转速与工作间隙的交互作用影响最小。粒子群优化算法寻优得到的最佳工艺参数组合为:工件转速600 r/min、偏摆速度102 mm/min、工作间隙2.5 mm。预测的K9玻璃的材料去除率为0.739μm/min,实际为0.719μm/min,误差仅为2.8%。该研究为磁流变抛光K9玻璃的材料去除效率动态预测及工艺参数优化提供了一定的指导意义。 展开更多

液压作动器中串联多级流道式磁流变阻尼器(MFC-MRD)可有效改善液压阀控缸系统的欠阻尼特性,提高系统的稳定性,该技术在足式机器人、挖掘机等装备中具有潜在的应用价值。但MFC-MRD的高功率密度设计必然会增加阻尼流道的有效长度,进而增... 液压作动器中串联多级流道式磁流变阻尼器(MFC-MRD)可有效改善液压阀控缸系统的欠阻尼特性,提高系统的稳定性,该技术在足式机器人、挖掘机等装备中具有潜在的应用价值。但MFC-MRD的高功率密度设计必然会增加阻尼流道的有效长度,进而增大系统的阻尼力,导致现有动力学模型无法精确描述MFC-MRD的非线性滞回特征。为改善MFC-MRD的非线性滞回特性,该文基于力学性能试验,通过分析多级流道结构及非线性滞回曲线特征,对双曲正切曲线进行分割重组,进而提出了符合滞回特性的改进双曲正切模型;在参数辨识过程中,为避免模型参数陷入局部最优和“早熟”,对遗传算法的选择算子进行改进,进而提出了一种三级逐步逼近的选择算子,提高了模型参数的辨识精度,并依据力学实验数据,精确地获得了模型参数与电流的关系。模型对比结果表明,相较于Bouc-Wen模型和数据驱动式模型,该文建立的改进双曲正切模型的精度最高可提高75%,能准确地描述MFC-MRD存在的非线性滞回特性,具有较高的精确性。 展开更多

磁流变脂热效应行为的分析与预测

磁流变介质在服役过程中受温升、磁场、持续剪切的多场耦合作用,其作用引起流变学行为规律不明并难以准确预测。由于反向传播(BP)神经网络存在容易收敛于局部极值的问题,通过建立麻雀搜索算法(SSA)优化BP神经网络的高温热效应磁流变脂... 磁流变介质在服役过程中受温升、磁场、持续剪切的多场耦合作用,其作用引起流变学行为规律不明并难以准确预测。由于反向传播(BP)神经网络存在容易收敛于局部极值的问题,通过建立麻雀搜索算法(SSA)优化BP神经网络的高温热效应磁流变脂流变性能预测模型,用于表征和预测实验温度、磁场、热效应时间、剪切速率与磁流变脂流变学性能之间的关系。结果表明:高磁场下,磁链大量聚拢受到皂纤维的阻碍较小,磁流变脂剪切应力大幅增加。高温热效应对磁流变脂复合结构造成了一定破坏,表现为MRG-24h在各实验条件下的剪切速率曲线整体较低。BP预测模型在评估局部离散性较大的数据时,出现R2为负值的低泛化性能表现,而SSA-BP预测模型对于整体不同数据集和局部离散性较小、较大的数据进行预测性能评估时,仍具有较高的预测精度。SSA-BP预测模型可以为磁流变脂流变性能预测,并为磁流变器件的设计和研发提供数据支持。 展开更多
