The comparison between the simulated and observed flow fields shows that the RANS simulation with all the three turbulence models cannot completely and accurately reproduce the observed flow field in all details. A detailed comparison between the predicted profiles of wind velocities and the measured data shows that the realizble k-ε model is the best one among the three turbulence closure models in general. However, the extent to which the improvement is achieved by the realizable k-ε model is still not enough to completely and accurately describe the turbulent flow in a relatively complex environment.展开更多

The northwest striking No.1 slope break zone, which is a representative of superimposed basins in the Tarim Basin, can be divided into five parts due to the intersection of the northeast strike-slip faults. Controlled by the tectonic framework, the types and properties of reservoirs and the hydrocarbon compositions can also be divided into five parts from east to west. Anomalies of all the parameters were found on the fault intersection zone and weakened up-dip along the structural ridge away from it. Thus, it can be inferred that the intersection zone is the hydrocarbon charging position. This new conclusion differs greatly from the traditional viewpoint, which believes that the hydrocarbon migrates and accumulates along the whole plane of the No.1 slope break zone. The viewpoint is further supported by the evidence from the theory of main pathway systems, obvious improvement of the reservoir quality (2-3 orders of magnitude at the intersection zone) and the formation mechanisms of the fault intersection zone. Differential hydrocarbon migration and entrapment exists in and around the strike- slip faults. This is controlled by the internal structure of faults. It is concluded that the more complicated the fault structure is, the more significant the effects will be. If there is a deformation band, it will hinder the cross fault migration due to the common feature of two to four orders of magnitude reduction in permeability. Otherwise, hydrocarbons tend to accumulate in the up-dip structure under the control of buoyancy. Further research on the internal fault structure should be emphasized.展开更多

Intersections with no specific priority to any move ment, known as uncontrolled intersections, are common in India. Limited priority is observed at a few intersections, where priorities are perceived by drivers based on geom etry, traffic volume, and speed on the approaches of intersection. Analyzing such intersections is complex because the overall traffic behavior is the result of drivers, vehicles, and traffic flow characteristics. Fuzzy theory has been widely used to analyze similar situations. This paper describes the application of adaptive neurofuzzy interface system (ANFIS) to the modeling of gap acceptance behavior of rightturning vehicles at limited priority Tintersections (in India, vehicles are driven on the left side of a road). Field data are collected using video cameras at four Tintersections having limited priority. The data extracted include gap/lag, subject vehicle type, conflicting vehicle type, and driver's decision (accepted/rejected). ANFIS models are developed by using 80 % of the extracted data (total data observations for major road right turning vehicles are 722 and 1,066 for minor road right turning vehicles) and remaining are used for model vali dation. Four different combinations of input variables are considered for major and minor road right turnings sepa rately. Correct prediction by ANFIS models ranges from 75.17 % to 82.16 % for major road right turning and 87.20 % to 88.62 % for minor road right turning. Themodels developed in this paper can be used in the dynamic estimation of gap acceptance in traffic simulation models.展开更多

In developing countries like India, drivers at such intersections do not yield to higher priority movements which cause more crashes between vehicles. The objective of this study is to analyze and model the gap acceptance behavior of minor street drivers at uncontrolled T-intersections considering their aggressive nature. Three intersections in the northeast region of India have been selected as the case study area. Preliminary analysis of the data revealed that drivers behave aggressively, not because they have to wait for a long time at the stop line, but because of their lack of respect for traffic rules. Binary logit models are developed for minor road right turning vehicles which show that gap acceptance behavior is influenced by gap duration, clearing time and aggressive nature of drivers. The equations obtained were used to estimate the critical gaps for aggressive and non-aggressive drivers. Critical gaps are also calculated using an existing method called clearing behavior approach. It is also shown that the estimation of critical gap is more realistic if clearing time and aggressive behavior of drivers are considered.展开更多

At unsignalized intersections, vehicles generally do not follow lane discipline and ignore the rules of priority. Drivers generally become more aggressive and tend to cross the uncontrolled intersections without considering the conflicting traffic. All these conditions cause a very complex traffic situation at unsignal- ized intersections which have a great impact on the capacity and performance of traffic intersections. A new method called additive conflict flow (ACF) method is suitable to determine the capacity of unsignalized inter- sections in non-lane-based mixed traffic conditions as prevailing in India. Occupation time is the key parameter for ACF method, which is defined as the time spent by a vehicle in the conflict area at the intersection. Data for this study were collected at two three-legged unsignalized intersections (one is uncontrolled and other one is semi- controlled) in Mangalore city, India using video-graphic technique during peak periods on three consecutive week days. The occupation time of vehicles at these intersections were studied and compared. The data on conflicting traffic volume and occupation time by each subject vehicle at the conflict area were extracted from the videos using image processing software. The subject vehicles were divided into three categories: two wheelers, cars, and auto-rickshaws. Mathematical relationships were developed to relate the occupation time of different cate- gories of vehicles with the conflicting flow of vehicles for various movements at both the intersections. It was found that occupation time increases with the increasing con- flicting traffic and observed to be higher at the uncontrolled intersection compared to the semicontrolled intersec- tion. The segregated turning movements and the presence of mini roundabout at the semicontrolled intersection reduces the conflicts of vehicular movements, which ulti- mately reduces the occupation time. The proposed methodology will be useful to determine the occupation time for various movements at unsignalized intersections. The models developed in the study can be used by practitioners and traffic engineers to estimate the capacity of unsignalized intersections in non-lane-based discipline and mixed traffic conditions.展开更多

However, traffic operations underneath a flyover remain unmanaged and often pose a major con- cern in developing countries with non-lane-based hetero- geneous traffic. This may reduce the overall benefit of a flyover. An alternative intersection layout is proposed to improve traffic operations at the intersection underneath a flyover. The proposed layout segregates the traffic move- ments through effective channelization. A traffic island is also proposed in the middle of the intersection to facilitate concurrent right-turning movements. This layout helps in eliminating a signal phase and cuts down traffic cycle time by 40 %. A microsimulation-based traffic simulation model is developed for the evaluation of the proposed layout. The simulation model demonstrates effectiveness of the proposed layout. Average delay and average queue length are compared to measure the effectiveness. Traffic volume sensitivity analysis is conducted to estimate the capacity of the proposed layout. An intersection underneath a flyover along the Eastern Expressway in Mumbai is considered for the case study. The effectiveness of the proposed layout at the study location for varying flow level is evaluated by comparing average delay, average stop delay, average number of stops per vehicle, average queue length, and maximum queue length.展开更多

Based on the actual traffic situation, the concept of borrowed priority, in which the majorroad bicycles borrow the priority of major-road cars to enter the intersections when consecutive headway for major-steam cars is lower than the critical gap for minor-road cars, was addressed. Bicycle capacity at a typical unsignalized intersection is derived by the addition-conflict-flow procedure. The proposes model was validated by the empirical investigation. Numerical results show that bicycle capacity at an intersection is the function of major-road and minor-road car streams. Bicycle capacity increases with increasing major-road cars but decreases with increasing minorroad cars.展开更多

文摘Nowadays urban traffic congestion becomes a major issue due to the increase in vehicles that lead to more commuting time, accidents, traffic violations, and high fuel consumption.Platooning is a good way to solve traffic congestion because it drives with a smaller inter-vehicle distance than human-driving.This paper proposes proactive platooning based on C-V2X(cellular vehicle-to-everything)to relieve congestion.Proactive platooning reduces the inter-vehicle distance and increases the throughput of signalized intersections through integrating the networked control platooning and computation-centralized platooning.Model and simulation experiments of proactive platooning were conducted to verify the impact of inter-vehicle distance on platooning latency, platooning safety, and traffic throughput.Simulation results show that the optimal inter-vehicle distance under proactive platooning is less than half of human-driving at a signalized intersection.

文摘Gap acceptance theory is broadly used for evaluating unsignalized intersections in developed coun tries. Themodels developed in this paper can be used in the dynamic estimation of gap acceptance in traffic simulation models.
文摘Explicit traffic control measures are absent in uncontrolled intersections which make them susceptible to frequent conflicts and resulting collisions between vehicles. It is also shown that the estimation of critical gap is more realistic if clearing time and aggressive behavior of drivers are considered.

文摘Let X^(H)={X^(H)(s),s∈R^(N_(1))}and X^(K)={X^(K)(t),t∈R^(N_(2))}be two independent time-space anisotropic random fields with indices H∈(0,1)^(N_(1)) and K∈(0,1)^(N_(2)),which may not possess Gaussianity, and which take values in R^(d) with a space metric τ.Under certain general conditions with density functions defined on a bounded interval,we study problems regarding the hitting probabilities of time-space anisotropic random fields and the existence of intersections of the sample paths of random fields X^(H) and X^(K).More generally, for any Borel set F⊂R^(d),the conditions required for F to contain intersection points of X^(H) and X^(K) are established. As an application,we give an example of an anisotropic non-Gaussian random field to show that these results are applicable to the solutions of non-linear systems of stochastic fractional heat equations.
文摘In India, traffic flow on roads is highly mixed in nature with wide variations in the static and dynamic characteristics of vehicles. The models developed in the study can be used by practitioners and traffic engineers to estimate the capacity of unsignalized intersections in non-lane-based discipline and mixed traffic conditions.
文摘The intersection number, in (G), has been defined as the minimumcardinality of a set S which has n different subsets S_i such that each S_i can beassigned to the node v_i of G and nodes v_i, v_j are adjacent if and onlyif S_i∩S_j ≠0. We introduce the multiset intersection number min (G), defined similarly exceptthat multisets with elements in S may now be assigned to the nodes of G. Weprove that min (G) equals the smallest number ofcliques of G whose union is G.
文摘Flyovers are constructed to manage heavy through movement. The effectiveness of the proposed layout at the study location for varying flow level is evaluated by comparing average delay, average stop delay, average number of stops per vehicle, average queue length, and maximum queue length.

文摘To investigate bicyclists' behavior at unsignalized intersections with mixed traffic flow, a bicycle capacity model of borrowed-priority merge was developed by the addition-conflict-flow procedure. Bicycle capacity increases with increasing major-road cars but decreases with increasing minorroad cars.
