We report on the optimal production of the Bose and Fermi mixtures with ^(87) Rb and ^(40)K in a crossed optical dipole trap(ODT).We measure the atomic number and lifetime of the mixtures in combination of the spin state |F=9/2,m_(F)=9/2> of^(40)K and |1,1>of ^(87) Rb in the ODT,which is larger and longer compared with the combination of the spin state |9/2,9/2> of^(40)K and 12,2) of ^(87)Rb in the ODT.We observe the atomic numbers of ^(87)Rb and ^(40)K shown in each stage of the sympathetic cooling process while gradually reducing the depth of the optical trap.By optimizing the relative loading time of atomic mixtures in the MOT,we obtain the large atomic number of ^(40)K(~6 ×10^(6)) or the mixtures of atoms with an equal number(~1.6 × 10^(6)) at the end of evaporative cooling in the ODT.We experimentally investigate the evaporative cooling in an enlarged volume of the ODT via adding a third laser beam to the crossed ODT and found that more atoms(8 × 10^(6)) and higher degeneracy(T/T_(F)=0.25) of Fermi gases are obtained.The ultracold atomic gas mixtures pave the way to explore phenomena such as few-body collisions and the Bose-Fermi Hubbard model,as well as for creating ground-state molecules of ^(87)Rb^(40)K. 展开更多

It is acknowledged that injecting CO_(2) into oil reservoirs and saline aquifers for storage is a practical and affordable method for CO_(2) sequestration.Most CO_(2) produced from industrial exhaust contains impurity gases such as H_(2)S that might impact CO_(2) sequestration due to competitive adsorption.This study makes a commendable effort to explore the adsorption behavior of CO_(2)/H_(2)S mixtures in calcite slit nanopores.Grand Canonical Monte Carlo(GCMC)simulation is employed to reveal the adsorption of CO_(2),H_(2)S as well as their binary mixtures in calcite nanopores.Results show that the increase in pressure and temperature can promote and inhibit the adsorption capacity of CO_(2) and H_(2)S in calcite nanopores,respectively.CO_(2)exhibits stronger adsorption on calcite surface than H_(2)S.Electrostatic energy plays the dominating role in the adsorption behavior.Electrostatic energy accounts for 97.11%of the CO_(2)-calcite interaction energy and 56.33%of the H_(2)S-calcite interaction energy at 10 MPa and 323.15 K.The presence of H_(2)S inhibits the CO_(2) adsorption in calcite nanopores due to competitive adsorption,and a higher mole fraction of H_(2)S leads to less CO_(2) adsorption.The quantity of CO_(2) adsorbed is lessened by approximately 33%when the mole fraction of H_(2)S reaches 0.25.CO_(2) molecules preferentially occupy the regions near the po re wall and H_(2)S molecules tend to reside at the center of nanopore even when the molar ratio of CO_(2) is low,indicating that CO_(2) has an adsorption priority on the calcite surface over H_(2)S.In addition,moisture can weaken the adsorption of both CO_(2) and H_(2)S,while CO_(2) is more affected.More interestingly,we find that pure CO_(2) is more suitable to be sequestrated in the shallower formations,i.e.,500-1500 m,whereas CO_(2)with H_(2)S impurity should be settled in the deeper reservoirs. 展开更多

In this paper we used MOF-5 and Cu3(BTC)2 to separate CO2/CH4 and CI-I4/N2 mixtures under dynamic conditions. Both materials were synthesized and pelletized, thus allowing for a meaningful characterization in view of process scale-up. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). By performing breakthrough experiments, we found that Cu3(BTC)2 separated CO2/CH4 slightly better than MOF-5. Because the crystal structure of Cu3 (BTC)2 includes unsaturated accessible metal sites formed via dehydration, it predominantly interacted with CO2 molecules and more easily captured them. Conversely, MOF-5 with a suitable pore size separated CH4/N2 more efficiently in our breakthrough test. 展开更多

The electron swarm parameters including the density-normalized effective ionization coefficients(α-η)/N and the electron drift velocities V e are calculated for a gas mixture of CF3I with N2 and CO2 by solving the Boltzmann equation in the condition of a steady-state Townsend(SST) experiment.The overall density-reduced electric field strength is from 100 Td to 1000 Td(1 Td = 10-17V·cm2),while the CF3I content k in the gas mixture can be varied over the range from 0% to 100%.From the variation of(αη)/N with the CF3I mixture ratio k,the limiting field strength(E/N) lim for each CF3I concentration is derived.It is found that for the mixtures with 70% CF3I,the values of(E/N) lim are essentially the same as that for pure SF 6.Additionally,the global warming potential(GWP) and the liquefaction temperature of the gas mixtures are also taken into account to evaluate the possibility of application in the gas insulation of power equipment. 展开更多

CF3I is a potential SF6 alternative gas.In order to study the insulation properties and synergistic effects of CF3I/N2 and CF3I/CO2 gas mixtures,two-term approximate Boltzmann equations were used to obtain the ionization coefficient α,attachment coefficient η and the critical equivalent electrical field strength(E/N)(cr).The results show that the(E/N)(cr)of CF3I gas at 300 K is 1.2 times that of SF6 gas,and CF3I/N2 and CF3I/CO2 gas mixtures both have synergistic effect occurred.The synergistic effect coefficient of CF3I/CO2 gas mixture was higher than that of CF3I/N2 gas mixture.But the(E/N)(cr)of CF3I/N2 is higher than that of CF3I/CO2 under the same conditions.When the content of CF3I exceeds 20%,the (E/N)(cr) of CF3I/N2 and CF3I/CO2 gas mixture increase linearly with the increasing of CF3I gas content.The breakdown voltage of CF3I/N2 gas mixture is also higher than that of CF3I/CO2 gas mixture in slightly non-uniform electrical field under power frequency voltage,but the synergistic effect coefficients of the two gas mixtures are basically the same. 展开更多

The study of flow behaviour of water-sand mixtures in fractured rocks is of great necessity to understand the producing mechanism and prevention of water inrush and sand gushing accidents.A self-developed seepage test system is used in this paper to conduct laboratory experiments in order to study the influence of the particle size distribution,the void ratio,and the initial mass of Aeolian sand on the flow behavior.It is concluded that the water flow velocity is insensitive to the initial mass of the Aeolian sand but increases with the power exponent in the Talbot formula and the specimen height.The outflow of the Aeolian sand increases with the power exponent in the Talbot formula,the specimen height,and the initial mass of the Aeolian sand.Besides,the outflow of the Aeolian sand changes exponentially with the water flow velocity.Finally,it is found that the fractured specimen has a maximum sand filtration capacity beyond which the outflow of the Aeolian sand significantly increases with the initial mass of the Aeolian sand. 展开更多

This phenomenon can be simulated in creep and recovery tests. By applying the visco elastoplastic model proposed, data recorded in the tests are interpreted. It is emphasised that applicability of the visco elastoplastic model depends on the proper method of characterising parameters involved in the constitutive equations. Since two or more strain components of elasticity and viscosity coexist during the loading or unloading, a measuring system of two loggers is introduced to decouple these components. Test data are analysed in three steps as elastic, visco elastic and visco plastic evaluations, using the records collected at the moment of unloading, during the periods of recovery and creep respectively. Factors that may influence the accuracy of data analysis are also discussed. 展开更多

The weighted-sum-of-gray-gas(WSGG)model and Mie theory are applied to study the influents of particle size on the radiative transfer in high temperature homogeneous gas-particle mixtures,such as the flame in aero-engine combustor.The radiative transfer equation is solved by the finite volume method.The particle size is assumed to obey uniform distribution and logarithmic normal(L-N)distribution,respectively.Results reveal that when particle size obeys uniform distribution,increasing particle size with total particle volume fraction fvunchanged will result in the decreasing of the absolute value of radiative heat transfer properties,and the effect of ignoring particle scattering will also be weakened.Opposite conclusions can be obtained when total particle number concentration N0 is unchanged.Moreover,if particle size obeys L-N distribution,increasing the narrowness indexσor decreasing the characteristic diameter Dˉwith the total particle volume fraction fvunchanged will increase the absolute value of radiative heat transfer properties.With total particle number concentration N0 unchanged,opposite conclusions for radiative heat source and incident radiation terms can be obtained except for radiative heat flux term.As a whole,the effects of particle size on the radiative heat transfer in the high-temperature homogeneous gas-particle mixtures are complicated,and the particle scattering cannot be ignoring just according to the particle size. 展开更多

CF3I gas mixtures have attracted considerable attention as potential environmentally-friendly alternatives to SF6 gas,owing to their excellent insulating performance.This paper attempts to study the CF3I ternary gas mixtures with c-C4F8 and buffer gases N2 and CO2 by considering dielectric strength from electron transport parameters based on the Boltzmann method and synergistic effect analysis,compared with SF6 gas mixtures.The results confirm that the critical electric field strength of CF3I/c-C4F8/70%CO2 is greater than that of 30%SF6/70%CO2 when the CF3I content is greater than 17%.Moreover,a higher content of c-C4F8 decreases the sensitivity of gas mixtures to an electric field,and this phenomenon is more obvious in CF3I/c-C4F8/CO2 gas mixtures.The synergistic effects for CF3I/c-C4F8/70%N2 were most obvious when the c-C4F8 content was approximately 20%,and for CF3I/c-C4F8/70%CO2 when the c-C4F8 content was approximately 10%.On the basis of this research,CF3I/c-C4F8/70%N2 shows better insulation performance when the c-C4F8 content is in the15%–20%range.For CF3I/c-C4F8/70%CO2,when the c-C4F8 content is in the 10%–15%range,the gas mixtures have excellent performance.Hence,these gas systems might be used as alternative gas mixtures to SF6 in high-voltage equipment. 展开更多

Based on Schaaff's collision factor theory (CFT) in liquids, the equations for nonlinear ultrasonic parameters in both organic liquid and binary organic liquid mixtures are deduced. The nonlinear ultrasonic parameters, including pressure coefficient, temperature coefficients of ultrasonic velocity, and nonlinear acoustic parameter B/A in both organic liquid and binary organic liquid mixtures, are evaluated for comparison with the measured results and data from other sources. The equations show that the coefficient of ultrasonic velocity and nonlinear acoustic parameter B/A are closely related to molecular interactions. These nonlinear ultrasonic parameters reflect some information of internal structure and outside status of the medium or mixtures. From the exponent of repulsive forces of the molecules, several thermodynamic parameters, pressure and temperature of the medium, the nonlinear ultrasonic parameters and ultrasonic nature of the medium can be evaluated. When evaluating and studying nonlinear acoustic parameter B/A of binary organic liquid mixtures, there is no need to know the nonlinear acoustic parameter B/A of the components. Obviously, the equation reveals the connection between the nonlinear ultrasonic nature and internal structure and outside status of the mixtures more directly and distinctly than traditional mixture law for B/A, e.g. Apfel's and Sehgal's laws for liquid binary mixtures. 展开更多

It is shown that the positive and negative lightning impulse breakdown voltages of 10%c-C4F8/N2/CO2 gas mixtures rise linearly as the electrode gap distance and gas pressure increase and under the same conditions, the positive lightning impulse breakdown voltage of the gas mixtures is always higher than the negative lightning impulse breakdown voltage. As the gas mixtures have a little higher liquefied temperature than SF6 and the comprehensive GWP is about 5% of SF6, and the positive and negative lightning impulse breakdown voltages can both reach 60% of SF6, 10%c-C4F8/N2/CO2 gas mixtures can be applied as insulation gas in electrical equipment such as C-GIS, GIT, GIL and so on. 展开更多

A gas-cooled nuclear reactor combined with a Brayton cycle shows promise as a technology for highpower space nuclear power systems.Generally,a helium-xenon gas mixture with a molecular weight of14.5-40.0 g/mol is adopted as the working fluid to reduce the mass and volume of the turbomachinery.The Prandtl number for helium-xenon mixtures with this recommended mixing ratio may be as low as 0.2.As the convective heat transfer is closely related to the Prandtl number,different heat transfer correlations are often needed for fluids with various Prandtl numbers.Previous studies have established heat transfer correlations for fluids with medium-high Prandtl numbers(such as air and water)and extremely lowPrandtl fluids(such as liquid metals);however,these correlations cannot be directly recommended for such helium-xenon mixtures without verification.This study initially assessed the applicability of existing Nusselt number correlations,finding that the selected correlations are unsuitable for helium-xenon mixtures.To establish a more general heat transfer correlation,a theoretical derivation was conducted using the turbulent boundary layer theory.Numerical simulations of turbulent heat transfer for helium-xenon mixtures were carried out using Ansys Fluent.Based on simulated results,the parameters in the derived heat transfer correlation are determined.It is found that calculations using the new correlation were in good agreement with the experimental data,verifying its applicability to the turbulent heat transfer for helium-xenon mixtures.The effect of variable gas properties on turbulent heat transfer was also analyzed,and a modified heat transfer correlation with the temperature ratio was established.Based on the working conditions adopted in this study,the numerical error of the property-variable heat transfer correlation was almost within 10%. 展开更多

We calculated the uniform dielectric breakdown field strength of residual 30% CF3I/CO2 gas mixtures during the arc extinction process over the temperature range 300-3500 K at 0.1 MPa. The limiting reduced field strengths are decided by a balance of electron generation and loss based on chemical reactions estimated by the electron energy distribution function (EEDF), which employs the Boltzmann equation method with two-term expanding approximation in the steady-state Townsend (SST) condition. During the insulation recovery phase, the hot CF3I/CO2 gas mixtures have maximum dielectric strength at a temperature of about 1500 K. At room temperature 300 K, the electric strength after arc extinction (90.3 Td, 1 Td=10-21 V.m2) is only 38% of the original value before arc (234.9 Td). The adverse insulation recovery ability of CF3I/CO2 gas mixtures in arc extinction hinders its application in electric circuit breakers and other switchgears as an arc quenching and insulating medium. 展开更多

The flow dynamics of binary particle mixtures in the fluidized bed needs to be monitored in order to optimize the related industrial processes.In this paper,electrostatic sensing and high-speed imaging are applied to measure the velocities of polyethylene and sand particles in the binary particle mixtures in fluidization.Experimental studies were conducted on a lab-scale cold circulating fluidized bed.Correlation function between electrostatic signals from upstream and downstream electrodes placed along the riser shows two peaks that represent transit times for the two types of particles.To verify the above results,high-speed imaging was adopted to capture the flow images of particle mixtures.Particle Image Velocimetry and Particle Tracking Velocimetry algorithms were utilized to process the resulted images in order to measure the velocities of polyethylene and sand particles.The reasons for two-peak correlation functions are illustrated based on the frequency spectrums of the mono-solid-phase electrostatic signals and the velocity difference between polyethylene and sand particles.Finally,comparisons on the velocities obtained from electrostatic sensing and high-speed imaging demonstrate the electrostatic sensor can roughly estimate the particle velocity of binary particle mixtures in the near wall region of the circulating fluidized bed. 展开更多

Disk-like liquid crystals(DLCs) can self-assemble to ordered columnar mesophases and are intriguing onedimensional organic semiconductors with high charge carrier mobility.To improve their applicable property of mesomorphic temperature ranges,we exploit the binary mixtures of electronic donor-acceptor DLC materials.The electron-rich2,3,6,7,10,11-hexakis(alkoxy)triphenylenes(C4,C6,C8,C10,C12) and an electron-deficient tetrapentyl triphenylene-2,3,6,10-tetracarboxylate have been prepared and their binary mixtures have been investigated.The mesomorphism of the1:1(molar ratio) mixtures has been characterized by polarizing optical microscopy(POM),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),and small angel x-ray scattering(SAXS).The self-assembled monolayer structure of a discogen on a solid-liquid interface has been imaged by the high resolution scanning tunneling microscopy(STM).The match of peripheral chain length has important influence on the mesomorphism of the binary mixtures. 展开更多

Computer simulations were performed to study the dense mixtures of passive particles and active particles in two dimensions.Two systems with different kinds of passive particles(e.g.,spherical particles and rod-like particles)were considered.At small active forces,the high-density and low-density regions emerge in both systems,indicating a phase separation.At higher active forces,the systems return to a homogeneous state with large fluctuation of particle area in contrast with the thermo-equilibrium state.Structurally,the rod-like particles accumulate loosely due to the shape anisotropy compared with the spherical particles at the high-density region.Moreover,there exists a positive correlation between Voronoi area and velocity of the particles.Additionally,a small number of active particles capably give rise to super-diffusion of passive particles in both systems when the self-propelled force is turned on. 展开更多

Accurate characterization of fluid phase behavior is an important aspect of CO_(2) enhanced shale oil recovery.So far,however,there has been little discussion about the nanopore confinement effect,including adsorption and capillarity on the phase equilibrium of water-oil-CO_(2) mixtures.In this study,an improved three-phase flash algorithm is proposed for calculating the phase behavior of water-oil-gas mixture on the basis of an extended Young-Laplace equation and a newly developed fugacity calculation model.The fugacity model can consider the effect of water-oil-gas adsorption on phase equilibrium.A water-Bakken oil-CO_(2) mixture is utilized to verify the accuracy of the flash algorithm and investigate the confinement effect.Results show that the confinement effect promotes the transfer of all components in the vapor phase to other phases,while the transfer of water,CO_(2),and lighter hydrocarbons is more significant.This leads to a large decrease,a large increase,and a small increase in the mole fraction of the vapor,oleic,and aqueous phases,respectively.When the confinement effect is considered,the density difference of vaporoleic phases decreases,and the interfacial tension of vapor-oleic phases decreases;however,the density difference of vapor-aqueous phases increases,the interfacial tension of vapor-aqueous phases still decreases. 展开更多

The non-chain chemical HF(DF)laser is one of the most powerful electrically-driven lasers operating in mid-infrared,in which SF6-C2H6 mixtures are often used as lasering media.Due to the electronegativity of SF6,the discharge in SF6-C2H6 presents a complicated discharge mode.To achieve reproducible pulsed laser output,pulsed discharge in SF6-C2H6 mixtures is investigated for discharge mode using plane electrodes assisted by array pre-ionization spark pins in cathode surface.Firstly,two modes can be distinguished.One mode is called the selfsustained volume discharge(SSVD),which is characterized by spatial uniformity in the discharge gap and pulse to pulse repeatability.On the contrary,another mode includes random arc passages in the discharge gap and therefore cannot conduct lasering.By varying discharge conditions(gap voltage,gas pressure,etc)two discharge modes are observed.Secondly,the holding scope of the SSVD mode is analyzed for the optimal mixture ratio of 20:1,and the boundary tend of the holding scope of SSVD indicates there exists maximum gas pressure and maximum charging voltage for SSVD.Finally,the peak current of SSVD relates positively to charging voltage,while negatively to gas pressure,from which it is drawn that synchronous electron avalanches initiated by the sliding array overlap spatially into SSVD and thus SSVD is essentially an α ionization avalanche. 展开更多

Species separation of binary colloidal mixtures in the multi-Gauss potential: Effect of depletion

For the asymmetrical colloidal mixture subject to a confining potential and an external multi-Gauss potential, the separation of species is studied based on the classical density functional theory of simple fluids. The multi-Gauss potential consists of several Gauss barriers, which are distributed along the axial direction with uniform distance. The barrier width,barrier distance, and barrier height are individually adjusted to investigate their effects on the species separation. From the numerical results, it is concluded that in each condition, the competition between the external potential and the depletion potential determines the phase equilibrium and the separation. Species separation appears only in the region where the depletion is dominant. On the contrary, both species are absent in the regions where the external potential takes the absolute advantage. 展开更多
