Shear strength characteristics of mixing slag-stone ballast reinforcement with tire geo-scrap using large-scale direct shear tests

Utilizing the ballast layer with more durable and stable characteristics can help avoid significant expenses due to decreased maintenance efforts.Strengthening the ballast layer with different types of reinforcements or substituting the stone aggregates with the appropriate granular materials could potentially help to achieve this goal by reducing the ballast deterioration.One of the exquisite and most effective solutions to eliminate these challenges is to use waste materials such as steel slag aggregates and useless tires.Utilizing these waste materials in the ballasted railway track will contribute to sustainable development,an eco-friendly system,and green infrastructure.So in a state-of-the-art insightful,the ballast aggregates,including a mixture of steel slag and stone aggregates,are reinforced with a novel kind of geo-grid made of waste tire strips known as geo-scraps.This laboratory research tried to explain the shear strength behavior of the introduced mixing slag-stone ballast reinforced with tire geo-scrap.To achieve this goal,a series of large-scale direct shear tests were performed on the ballast which is reinforced by tire geo-scrap and included various combinations of slag and stone aggregates.The concluded results indicate that the optimal mixing ratio is attained by a combination of 75%slag and 25%stone aggregates which is reinforced by tire geo-scrap at a placing level of 120 mm.In this case,the shear strength,internal friction angle,vertical displacement,and dilatancy angle of stone–slag ballast reinforced with geo-scraps exhibited average changes of+28%,+9%,-28%,and-15%,respectively. 展开更多

This paper concerns the exponential attitude-orbit coordinated control problems for gravitational-wave detection formation spacecraft systems.Notably,the large-scale communication delays resulting from oversized inter-satellite distance of space-based laser interferometers are first modeled.Subject to the delayed communication behaviors,a new delay-dependent attitude-orbit coordinated controller is designed.Moreover,by reconstructing the less conservative Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and free-weight matrices,sufficient criteria are derived to ensure the exponential stability of the closed-loop relative translation and attitude error system.Finally,a simulation example is employed to illustrate the numerical validity of the proposed controller for in-orbit detection missions. 展开更多

This article introduces the concept of load aggregation,which involves a comprehensive analysis of loads to acquire their external characteristics for the purpose of modeling and analyzing power systems.The online identification method is a computer-involved approach for data collection,processing,and system identification,commonly used for adaptive control and prediction.This paper proposes a method for dynamically aggregating large-scale adjustable loads to support high proportions of new energy integration,aiming to study the aggregation characteristics of regional large-scale adjustable loads using online identification techniques and feature extraction methods.The experiment selected 300 central air conditioners as the research subject and analyzed their regulation characteristics,economic efficiency,and comfort.The experimental results show that as the adjustment time of the air conditioner increases from 5 minutes to 35 minutes,the stable adjustment quantity during the adjustment period decreases from 28.46 to 3.57,indicating that air conditioning loads can be controlled over a long period and have better adjustment effects in the short term.Overall,the experimental results of this paper demonstrate that analyzing the aggregation characteristics of regional large-scale adjustable loads using online identification techniques and feature extraction algorithms is effective. 展开更多

Accurate positioning is one of the essential requirements for numerous applications of remote sensing data,especially in the event of a noisy or unreliable satellite signal.Toward this end,we present a novel framework for aircraft geo-localization in a large range that only requires a downward-facing monocular camera,an altimeter,a compass,and an open-source Vector Map(VMAP).The algorithm combines the matching and particle filter methods.Shape vector and correlation between two building contour vectors are defined,and a coarse-to-fine building vector matching(CFBVM)method is proposed in the matching stage,for which the original matching results are described by the Gaussian mixture model(GMM).Subsequently,an improved resampling strategy is designed to reduce computing expenses with a huge number of initial particles,and a credibility indicator is designed to avoid location mistakes in the particle filter stage.An experimental evaluation of the approach based on flight data is provided.On a flight at a height of 0.2 km over a flight distance of 2 km,the aircraft is geo-localized in a reference map of 11,025 km~2using 0.09 km~2aerial images without any prior information.The absolute localization error is less than 10 m. 展开更多

An approach which combines particle swarm optimization and support vector machine(PSO–SVM)is proposed to forecast large-scale goaf instability(LSGI).Firstly,influencing factors of goaf safety are analyzed,and following parameters were selected as evaluation indexes in the LSGI:uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of rock,elastic modulus(E)of rock,rock quality designation(RQD),area ration of pillar(Sp),the ratio of width to height of the pillar(w/h),depth of ore body(H),volume of goaf(V),dip of ore body(a)and area of goaf(Sg).Then LSGI forecasting model by PSO-SVM was established according to the influencing factors.The performance of hybrid model(PSO+SVM=PSO–SVM)has been compared with the grid search method of support vector machine(GSM–SVM)model.The actual data of 40 goafs are applied to research the forecasting ability of the proposed method,and two cases of underground mine are also validated by the proposed model.The results indicated that the heuristic algorithm of PSO can speed up the SVM parameter optimization search,and the predictive ability of the PSO–SVM model with the RBF kernel function is acceptable and robust,which might hold a high potential to become a useful tool in goaf risky prediction research. 展开更多

Medicinal and dietary plants provide numerous nutritional and functional compounds and also have various potential health benefits to humanity.The specific and efficient techniques for accurate identification of nutritional compounds and functional metabolites is crucial for the development of functional foods from medicinal and dietary plants.Nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)and mass spectrometry(MS)are indispensable and essential technologies that provide an unsurpassed wealth of untargeted identification,quantitative and qualitative analysis,and structural information in the study of food and plant products.In the past decade,the rapid development of modern analytical technology has led to the emergence of new approaches and strategies for natural products discovery.Especially the application of novel NMRand MS-based identification and dereplication strategies aided by artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms have brought about a significant shift in the natural products discovery process.These developments and changes in the natural products filed have given us insights into how to accurately target and mining nutritional,functional,and bioactive compounds.Thus,we have summarized recent research on novel NMR and MS based strategies and methods focusing on functional compounds,accurate identification and efficient discovery mainly in medicinal and dietary plants.This review could provide a comprehensive perspective for a better understanding of novel strategies and methods based on NMR and MS technologies,which could provide valuable insights and ideas for functional compounds mining. 展开更多

Fire behavior of mining vehicles in underground hard rock mines 被引量:4

The results from a number of investigations and fire experiments are presented and analyzed in order to characterize the fire behavior of mining vehicles in underground hard rock mines. The analysis also includes fire safety and fire protection measures with respect to the mining vehicle fire behavior.Earlier studies on fires in underground hard rock mines have shown that vehicles or mobile equipment are the dominant sources of fire. A better knowledge about the fire behavior of vehicles in underground hard rock mines is therefore needed. During the analysis the direction and flow rate of the ventilation in a drift was found to have a significant impact on the fire behavior, causing for example flame tilt with rapid fire spread. The shielded sections of a vehicle will be less affected by the ventilation flow resulting in for example a decreased flame spread. It was also found that spray fires may result in considerable heat release rate but are generally of shorter duration and will not make any significant contributions to the overall heat release rate of the fully developed vehicle fire. The fire duration of a loader tire from a full-scale fire experiment was found to be at least 200 min and will largely determine the total fire duration of the vehicle. A different scenario with different conditions with for example a slower flame spread resulted in an even longer fire duration. The radiative and convective fraction will be a key factor when determining the heat transfer mechanisms involved in a fire and will vary from material to material.Calculations show that the radiative fraction of the tire fires on two mining vehicles is significantly lower than found in earlier experiments. The design and construction of the mining vehicle will have an important impact on the fire behavior and could possibly mitigate the consequences of a fire and allow fire personnel to extinguish a fire that otherwise would have had a too high heat release rate. 展开更多

In the practice of mining shallow buried ultra-close seams,support failure tends to occur during the process of longwall undermining beneath two layers of room mining goaf(TLRMG).In this paper,the factors causing support failure are summarized into geology and mining technology.Combining column lithology and composite beam theory,the key stratum of the rock strata is determined.A finite element numerical simulation is used to analyze the overlying load distribution rule of the main roof for different plane positions of the upper and lower room mining pillars.The tributary area theory(TAT)is adopted to analyze the vertical load distribution of each pillar,and dynamic models of coal pillar instability and main roof fracture are established.Through key block instability analysis,two critical moments are established,of which critical moment A has the greater dynamic load strength.Great economic losses and safety hazards are created by the dynamic load of the fracturing of the main roof.To reduce these negative effects,a method of pulling out supports is developed and two alternative measures for support failure prevention are proposed:reinforcing stope supports in conjunction with reducing mining height,or drilling ground holes to pre-split the main roof.Based on a comprehensive consideration of economic factors and the two categories of support failure causes,the method of reinforcing stope supports while reducing mining height was selected for use on the mining site. 展开更多

To achieve safe and highly efficient mining in the gassy, deep mines of the Huainan collieries simultaneous coal and gas extraction, and the corresponding ventilation methods were developed. This includes a set of mining procedures and principles which help insure safe and efficient production. Furthermore, green mining, meaning the comprehensive use of emitted gas, proper treatment of the environment and appropriate mine temperature control, is now standard. The concepts of modem mining and the principles of pressure relief are described. Coal-gas simultaneous ex- traction and multi-pressure relief techniques were developed which require a combination of surface and underground gas extraction. The application of Y-ventilation systems, of roadways retained along goafs, of stress control techniques for highly fragile mine roofs and of powerful, automatic and reliable mining equipment contributes to safe operation of modem deep mines. Operating parameters for these techniques are described and the results of their use discussed. 展开更多

Reconfigurable intelligent surface(RIS)is more likely to develop into extremely large-scale RIS(XL-RIS)to efficiently boost the system capacity for future 6 G communications.Beam training is an effective way to acquire channel state information(CSI)for XL-RIS.Existing beam training schemes rely on the far-field codebook.However,due to the large aperture of XL-RIS,the scatters are more likely to be in the near-field region of XL-RIS.The far-field codebook mismatches the near-field channel model.Thus,the existing far-field beam training scheme will cause severe performance loss in the XL-RIS assisted nearfield communications.To solve this problem,we propose the efficient near-field beam training schemes by designing the near-field codebook to match the nearfield channel model.Specifically,we firstly design the near-field codebook by considering the near-field cascaded array steering vector of XL-RIS.Then,the optimal codeword for XL-RIS is obtained by the exhausted training procedure.To reduce the beam training overhead,we further design a hierarchical nearfield codebook and propose the corresponding hierarchical near-field beam training scheme,where different levels of sub-codebooks are searched in turn with reduced codebook size.Simulation results show the proposed near-field beam training schemes outperform the existing far-field beam training scheme. 展开更多

A Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM) Recurrent Neural Network(RNN) has driven tremendous improvements on an acoustic model based on Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM). However, these models based on a hybrid method require a forced aligned Hidden Markov Model(HMM) state sequence obtained from the GMM-based acoustic model. Therefore, it requires a long computation time for training both the GMM-based acoustic model and a deep learning-based acoustic model. In order to solve this problem, an acoustic model using CTC algorithm is proposed. CTC algorithm does not require the GMM-based acoustic model because it does not use the forced aligned HMM state sequence. However, previous works on a LSTM RNN-based acoustic model using CTC used a small-scale training corpus. In this paper, the LSTM RNN-based acoustic model using CTC is trained on a large-scale training corpus and its performance is evaluated. The implemented acoustic model has a performance of 6.18% and 15.01% in terms of Word Error Rate(WER) for clean speech and noisy speech, respectively. This is similar to a performance of the acoustic model based on the hybrid method. 展开更多

The paper aims to identify a reasonable method for mining ultra-thick coal seams in an end-slope in surface mine, With a case study of Heidaigou surface coal mine(HSCM), the paper conducted a comparative research on three mining methods, namely Underground Mining Method(UMM), Highwall Mining System(HMS) and Local Steep Slope Mining Method(LSSMM). A model was firstly established to simulate the impact that UMM and HMS exert on monitoring points and surface deformation. The way that stripping and excavation amount varies with different slope angle, and the corresponding end slope stability were analyzed in the mode of LSSMM. Then a TOPSIS model was established by taking into account six indicators such as recovery ratio, technical complexity and adaptability, the impact on surface mining production, production safety and economic benefits. Finally, LSSMM was determined as the best mining method for mining ultra-thick coal seams in end slope in HSCM. 展开更多

The global energy transition is a widespread phenomenon that requires international exchange of experiences and mutual learning.Germany’s success in its first phase of energy transition can be attributed to its adoption of smart energy technology and implementation of electricity futures and spot marketization,which enabled the achievement of multiple energy spatial–temporal complementarities and overall grid balance through energy conversion and reconversion technologies.While China can draw from Germany’s experience to inform its own energy transition efforts,its 11-fold higher annual electricity consumption requires a distinct approach.We recommend a clean energy system based on smart sector coupling(ENSYSCO)as a suitable pathway for achieving sustainable energy in China,given that renewable energy is expected to guarantee 85%of China’s energy production by 2060,requiring significant future electricity storage capacity.Nonetheless,renewable energy storage remains a significant challenge.We propose four large-scale underground energy storage methods based on ENSYSCO to address this challenge,while considering China’s national conditions.These proposals have culminated in pilot projects for large-scale underground energy storage in China,which we believe is a necessary choice for achieving carbon neutrality in China and enabling efficient and safe grid integration of renewable energy within the framework of ENSYSCO. 展开更多

Millimeter wave(mmWave) and large-scale multiple input multiple output(MIMO) are two emerging technologies in fifth-generation wireless communication systems. The power consumption and hardware cost of radio frequency(RF) chains increase exponentially with the bit resolution of analog-to-digital converters(ADCs) and digital-to-analog converters(DACs). One promising solution is to employ few RF chains with low-bit ADCs and DACs. In this paper, we consider mmWave large-scale MIMO systems with low bits DACs and ADCs. Leveraging on the Bussgang theorem and the additive quantization noise model(AQNM), a closed-form expression of the achievable rate is derived to show the effect of the ADCs? and DACs? resolution. Moreover, an orthogonal matching pursuit(OMP) based hybrid precoding algorithm is proposed to increase the achievable rate. Our results show that the impact of DACs is more pronounced than the impact of ADCs. Furthermore, 5-bit ADCs and DACs are sufficient at the transceiver to operate without a significant performance loss. 展开更多

As a result of rapid development in electronics and communication technology,large-scale unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)are harnessed for various promising applications in a coordinated manner.Although it poses numerous advantages,resource management among various domains in large-scale UAV communication networks is the key challenge to be solved urgently.Specifically,due to the inherent requirements and future development trend,distributed resource management is suitable.In this article,we investigate the resource management problem for large-scale UAV communication networks from game-theoretic perspective which are exactly coincident with the distributed and autonomous manner.By exploring the inherent features,the distinctive challenges are discussed.Then,we explore several gametheoretic models that not only combat the challenges but also have broad application prospects.We provide the basics of each game-theoretic model and discuss the potential applications for resource management in large-scale UAV communication networks.Specifically,mean-field game,graphical game,Stackelberg game,coalition game and potential game are included.After that,we propose two innovative case studies to highlight the feasibility of such novel game-theoretic models.Finally,we give some future research directions to shed light on future opportunities and applications. 展开更多

The accurate fault-cause identification for overhead transmission lines supports the operation and maintenance personnel in formulating targeted maintenance strategies and shortening the time of inspecting faulty lines.With the goal of achieving“carbon peak and carbon neutrality”,the schemes for clean energy generation have rapidly developed.Moreover,new energy-consuming equipment has been widely connected to the power grid,and the operating characteristics of the power system have significantly changed.Consequently,these have impacted traditional fault identification methods.Based on the time-frequency characteristics of the fault waveform,new energy-related parameters,and deep learning model,this study proposes a fault identification method suitable for scenarios where a high proportion of new energy is connected to the power grid.Ten parameters related to the causes of transmission line fault and new energy connection scenarios are selected as model characteristic parameters.Further,a fault identification model based on adaptive deep belief networks was constructed,and its effect was verified by field data. 展开更多

This paper presents the results of a unique study conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH)from 2016 to 2019 to evaluate the effects of longwall-induced subsurface deformations on shale gas well casing integrity and underground miner safety and health.At both deep-cover and shallow-cover instrumentation sites,surface subsidence measurements,subsurface inplace inclinometer measurements,and underground pillar pressure measurements were conducted as longwall panels were mined.Comparisons of the deep-cover and shallow-cover test site results with those from a similar study under medium cover reveal an interesting longwall-induced response scenario.Under shallow and medium covers,measured horizontal displacements within the abutment pillar are one order of magnitude higher than those measured under deep cover.On the other hand,measured vertical compressions under deep cover are one order of magnitude higher than those under shallow and medium covers.However,FLAC3 Dsimulations of the casings indicate that,in all three cases,the P-110 production casings remain intact under longwall-induced deformations and compressions,which has serious implications for future mine design in areas where shale gas wells have been drilled ahead of mining. 展开更多

Mining under wide span is of concern as it increases the probability of back caving causing personnel injury and equipment damage in underground mines in open stoping and underhand drift-and-fill methods.Though restricting personnel access to well supported lateral development is commonly practiced,it is not always possible to implement this requirement due to various factors such as ore loss control,drilling equipment limitations,availability of remote operating capacity and consideration of productivity.Even with rules implemented to limit personnel entry into openings with wide spans,the hazards of equipment damage and back caving still exist.Over the years,different practices have been reported and adopted to minimize risks associated with exposure to large spans in various underground mines.Lessons from these practices are beneficial to current and future mines with challenges of safe extraction of thick deposits in a non-caving setting.This paper briefly summarizes practices in mining wide orebodies using the open stoping method without personnel access and underhand mining using the drift-andfill method with personnel exposure in the industry and presents cases from Kinross mines where the hanging pillar design was tested,and stope backs were naturally and artificially supported for extraction under wide spans using the open stoping method. 展开更多
