In real cases, soils are usually inhomogeneous, and each slope collapse indicates a three-dimensional(3D) nature. Based on a 3D rotational failure mechanism, this work develops an approach to account for the impact of the vertical strength inhomogeneity on the 3D stability of stepped slopes. Seismic actions are taken into account by introducing the concept of a horizontal seismic coefficient. An upper-bound expression for stability factors is derived in the light of the kinematic approach, and the most critical solution is obtained from an optimization programming. In comparison with the previously published solutions, the validity of the proposed method is shown. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to discuss parametric effects on the stability of 3D stepped inhomogeneous slopes.展开更多

However, many realistic networks exhibit inhomogeneity due to natural and man-made reasons. In this work, the capacity of inhomogeneous hybrid networks with directional antennas for the first time is studied. By setting different node distribution probabilities, the whole network can be devided into dense cells and sparse cells. On this basis, an inhomogeneous hybrid network model is proposed. The network can exhibit significant inhomogeneity due to the coexistence of two types of cells. Then, we derive the network capacity and maximize the capacity under different channel allocation schemes. Finally, how the network parameters influence the network capacity is analyzed. It is found that if there are plenty of base stations, the per-node throughput can achieve constant order, and if the beamwidth of directional antenna is small enough, the network capacity can scale.展开更多

The integral equation is set up based on derivation of dyadic Green's functions in this environment. The coupling is divided into nearby region and well-separated region by grouping. The Green's function can be divided into two parts: primary term and reflected term. In the well-separated region, the two terms are both expressed as Sommerfeld integral, which can be accelerated by deforming integral path and taking interpolation and extrapolation. For the nearby region, the direct Sommerfeld integral makes the filling of impedance matrix time-expensive. A tabulation and interpolation method is applied to speed up this process. This infinite integral is pre-computed in sampling region, and a two-dimensional table is then set up. The impedance elements can then be obtained by interpolation. Numerical results demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of this algorithm.展开更多

For the severely resource constrained applications, the energy-efficient and small size cryptography algorithm implementation is a critical problem. Hardware implementations of the advanced encryption standard (AES) for authentication and encryption are presented. An energy consumption variable is derived to evaluate low-power design strategies for battery-powered devices. It proves that compact AES architectures fail to optimize the AES hardware energy, whereas reducing invalid switching activities and implementing power-optimized sub-modules are the reasonable methods. Implementations of different substitution box (S-Boxes) structures are presented with 0.25μm 1.8 V CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) standard cell library. The comparisons and trade-offs among area, security, and power are explored. The experimental results show that Galois field composite S-Boxes have smaller size and highest security but consume considerably more power, whereas decoder-switch-encoder S-Boxes have the best power characteristics with disadvantages in terms of size and security. The combination of these two type S-Boxes instead of homogeneous S-Boxes in AES circuit will lead to optimal schemes. The technique of latch-dividing data path is analyzed, and the quantitative simulation results demonstrate that this approach diminishes the glitches effectively at a very low hardware cost.展开更多

By a time-lapse seismic method, we study the effects of fluid substitution in a physical model, which is an analogy of the three-dimensional inhomogeneous reservoir. For a weak inhomogeneous medium, gas/oil substitution results in positive anomalies in the reservoir layers, and negative anomalies below the bottom of the reservoir layers; while water/oil substitution causes only weak variations in the reservoir layers, but positive anomalies below the bottom of the reservoir layers. For the strong inhomogeneous medium, no matter what kind of fluid substitution(gas/oil or water/oil), there are significant anomalies in seismic amplitude difference attributes both in and below the reservoir layers. Therefore, for weak inhomogeneous media, such as tight sandstone or thin interbedded layers, the RMS amplitude difference attributes can be used to monitor fluid changes and predict the drilling direction; for inhomogeneous medium with karst carves or fractures, it is difficult to accurately determine the distribution of fluids with the RMS amplitude difference attributes.展开更多
