The rigid model was used t...We carried out a wind tunnel test to measure cladding loads for a high-rise building of 295 m in height, which would be located in the business center of Chongqing Municipality, P. R. China. The rigid model was used to determine fluctuating local pressures on the exterior surfaces of the building. The wind tunnel test results show the cr/tical zone of wind pressures on building surfaces in both standalone and interference conditions. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was conducted by using the FLUENT Code to compare with the wind tunnel test results, and the steady three-dimensional turbulent flow with Realizable k-ε as a turbulence model was used. The CFD results are agree with the wind tunnel test results in regards to distributions of wind pressures over a high-rise building's surfaces.展开更多
Renewable energy and building in the People's Republic of China are (besides the transport sector) two of the most challenging areas when it comes to sustainable development yet among the strongest prospects of es...Renewable energy and building in the People's Republic of China are (besides the transport sector) two of the most challenging areas when it comes to sustainable development yet among the strongest prospects of establishing synergies in total green house gas emission reduction.However any kind of development or advancement in those sectors can only take place within the political and legal governance framework of the People's Republic of China.Any such governance framework naturally does offer incentives and also poses challenges to local and national initiatives and sustainability as a sum of all industrious activities.Undoubtedly it is the Government's goal to develop a world-class renewable energy industry.Likewise building and construction may well serve as tools for promoting and mainstreaming sustainability and sustainable use of energy.However in China governance is understood strictly in a top down manner.It is time to empower the energy and building sectors and normal citizens alike to take the lead in preserving and creating a healthy living environment in the People's Republic of China.For sustainable housing and renewable energy integration,decisive strategic policy support from the central and local governments is essential.展开更多
A new approach to modifying the stiffness and mass matrices of finite element models is presented to improve the calculation precision.By measuring the mode frequencies and shapes of both of the original and the new s...A new approach to modifying the stiffness and mass matrices of finite element models is presented to improve the calculation precision.By measuring the mode frequencies and shapes of both of the original and the new structures with changed stiffness and mass,the stiffness and mass matrices of the finite element model can be updated through matrices calculation and solving algebra equations.Taking a multi-freedom model as an example,the relation between the number of the modes and the correction precision of stiffness and mass matrix elements is researched.The facility and precision of the method are totally confirmed especially when the modeling error is known limited to a definite local range.The feasibility of the approach is proven by an effective engineering application to the model updating of a wing piece used in flutter test.展开更多
This paper presents the simulation results of the wind environment around a single high-rise building and that around two tall buildings in tandem arrangement by using the lattice Boltzmann method with an aim to under...This paper presents the simulation results of the wind environment around a single high-rise building and that around two tall buildings in tandem arrangement by using the lattice Boltzmann method with an aim to understand the ventilation issues around high-rise buildings in an urban environment.We analyzed the velocity distribution around the buildings and performed numericl simulations to reveal the formation and evolution law of the complex vortex system around the high-rise buildings.Numerical simulation results manifest a periodicity phenamenon in the process of the vortex evolution.For the case of two high-rise buildings,wind velocity in the space between the two buildings is very small,which is nearly a silent regime.Wind velocity above the front building is relatively larger and the maximum wind velocity is approximately 2.5 times the incoming wind velocity.The numerical results can be used in layout planning of high-rise residential buildings to create better environment for ventilation purpose in an urban area.展开更多
