Tube-like HA structure was fabricated with the aid of a Nafion N-117 cation exchange membrane and gold(Au) nanoparticles were added by a hydrothermal method. The morphology, structure and composition were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The gas sensing properties were also investigated. Results show that Au nanoparticles are dispersed into the HA powder, which is tube-like, with rough inner and outer surfaces. Compared with pure HA, Au-modified HA exhibits improved sensing properties for NH_3. 5%(mass fraction) Au-modified HA shows the highest response with relatively short response/recovery time. The response is up to 79.2% when the corresponding sensor is exposed to 200×10^(-6) NH_3 at room temperature, and the response time and recovery time are 20 s and 25 s, respectively. For lower concentration, like 50×10^(-6), the response is still up to 70.8%. Good selectivity and repeatability are also observed. The sensing mechanism of high response and selectivity for NH_3 gas was also discussed. These results suggest that Au-HA composite is a promising material for NH_3 sensors operating at room temperature.展开更多

The pristine Ga N nanowires show responses of approximately 108%-173% to 0.05%-0.25% H2 at room temperature. On the other hand, the Ga N nanowires decorated with Au and those decorated with Pt lead to 1.1-1.3 and 1.2-1.6 times, respectively, stronger responses to 0.05%-0.25% H2. In contrast, the Au Pt-codecorated Ga N nanowires show 1.3-2.0 times stronger responses to 0.05%-0.25% H2. In other words, the Ga N nanorods codecorated with Au and Pt nanoparticles show much stronger response to H2 gas than the Au or Pt monometal-decorated counterpart. The underlying mechanism for the enhanced response of the Au Pt-codecorated Ga N nanowire was discussed.展开更多

For further clarifying the relativity between sensor response and partial discharge activity, the discharge in GIS tank was monitored simultaneously through conventional pulse current method and a SWCNTs gas sensor, and the measurement results were put together for comparative analysis in this paper. The sensor response showed a great dependence on partial discharge characteristics. The sensor response increased nearly linearly with limits when the energy of discharge was persistently accumulated.Partial discharge power had a great influence on the response rate and the time delay. With the increase of partial discharge power, the response rate augmented almost in proportion while the time delay gradually becomes shorter with limits. The results were quite favorable to assess the partial discharge intensity and duration to some extent.Compared with pulse current method, the sensor was predominant to detect partial discharge exposed to constantly high levels of noise. It was capable of detecting partial discharge which was too weak to be detected with pulse current method. However, the sensor response didn't show much dependency on the apparent discharge of partial discharge.展开更多
