The receiver used in this UWB system is a hybrid selection/maximal-ratio combining(H-S/MRC) diversity receiver in which L strongest multipath components out of N multipath diversity branches are selected and combined using maximal-ratio combining. The exact expressions for the bit error rate(BER) of this UWB system are firstly derived by using the virtual branch technique in term of PRF, the number of multipath components selected and combined L, and multipath spread of the channel and then this BER performance is evaluated. With the computer simulation for impulses having different pulse shapes, numerical results show that PRF, as well as pulse shape and the number of multipath diversity branches selected and combined L, has much effect on the BER performance of this UWB system in dense multipath fading environments. As PRF increases, the BER performance of this UWB system is much degraded under the conditions of fixed L and pulse shape.展开更多

To design a good communication link, it is required to know the statistical model of the channel accurately. The average symbol error probability(ASER) was analyzed for different modulation schemes. A unified analytical framework was presented to obtain closed-form solutions for calculating the ASER of M-ary differential phase-shift keying(M-DPSK), coherent M-ary phase-shift keying(M-PSK), and quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) over single or multiple Nakagami-m fading channels. Moreover, the ASER was estimated and evaluated by using the maximal ratio-combining(MRC) diversity technique. Simulation results show that an error rate of the fading channel typically depends on Nakagami parameters(m), space diversity(N), and symbol rate(M). A comparison between M-PSK, M-DPSK, and M-QAM modulation schemes was shown, and the results prove that M-ary QAM(M-QAM) demonstrates better performance compared to M-DPSK and M-PSK under all fading and non-fading conditions.展开更多

Under the low frequency uncertainty case, after performing discrete cosine transform (DCT) to the outputs of the partial matched filter (PMF) for every antenna, the high order com- ponents in the transforming domain will be filtered, then the equalgain (EG) combination for the inverse discrete cosine transform (IDCT) reconstructed signal would be done subsequently. Thus, due to the different frequency distribution characteristics between the noise and signals, after EG combination, the energy of signals has almost no loss and the noise energy is greatly reduced. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the detection algorithm can effectively improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the captured signal and increase the probability of detection under the same false alarm probability. In addition, it should be pointed out that this method can also be applied to Rayleigh fading channels with moving antenna.展开更多

The symbols detection problem of the V-BLAST OFDM system is investigated under the frequency-selective fading environment. The adaptive scheme employs a single turbo coded modulator composed of a variable-rate turbo encoder and a variable-rate variable-power MQAM for all fading regions, so it has an acceptable complexity to implement. The optimal adaptive TuCM scheme is determined subject to various system constraints. Simulations have been performed to measure the performance of the scheme for different parameters. It is shown that adopting both the turbo coded modulator and the transmit power achieves a performance within 2.5 dB of the fading channel capacity.展开更多

Signal system recognition and classification contribute a lot to the process. However, in low signal to noise ratio(SNR) circumstances or under time-varying multipath channels, the majority of the existing algorithms for signal recognition are already facing limitations. In this series, we present a robust signal recognition method based upon the original and latest updated version of the extreme learning machine(ELM) to help users to switch between networks. The ELM utilizes signal characteristics to distinguish systems. The superiority of this algorithm lies in the random choices of hidden nodes and in the fact that it determines the output weights analytically, which result in lower complexity. Theoretically, the algorithm tends to offer a good generalization performance at an extremely fast speed of learning. Moreover, we implement the GSM/WCDMA/LTE models in the Matlab environment by using the Simulink tools. The simulations reveal that the signals can be recognized successfully to achieve a 95% accuracy in a low SNR(0 dB) environment in the time-varying multipath Rayleigh fading channel.展开更多
