This paper studies high order compact finite volume methods on non-uniform meshes for one-dimensional elliptic and parabolic differential equations with the Robin boundary conditions.An explicit scheme and an implicit scheme are obtained by discretizing the equivalent integral form of the equation.For the explicit scheme with nodal values,the algebraic system can be solved by the Thomas method.For the implicit scheme with both nodal values and their derivatives,the system can be implemented by a prediction-correction procedure,where in the correction stage,an implicit formula for recovering the nodal derivatives is introduced.Taking two point boundary value problem as an example,we prove that both the explicit and implicit schemes are convergent with fourth order accuracy with respect to some standard discrete norms using the energy method.Two numerical examples demonstrate the correctness and effectiveness of the schemes,as well as the indispensability of using non-uniform meshes. 展开更多

In this paper,we construct two fully decoupled,second-order semi-discrete numerical schemes for the Boussinesq equations based on the scalar auxiliary variable(SAV)approach.By introducing a scalar auxiliary variable,the original Boussinesq system is transformed into an equivalent one.Then we discretize it using the second-order backward di erentiation formula(BDF2)and Crank-Nicolson(CN)to obtain two second-order time-advanced schemes.In both numerical schemes,a pressure-correction method is employed to decouple the velocity and pressure.These two schemes possess the desired property that they can be fully decoupled with satisfying unconditional stability.We rigorously prove both the unconditional stability and unique solvability of the discrete schemes.Furthermore,we provide detailed implementations of the decoupling procedures.Finally,various 2D numerical simulations are performed to verify the accuracy and energy stability of the proposed schemes. 展开更多

Optimizing mesophase pitch spinning using melt spinning process equations and the fiber structure produced

Mesophase pitch carbon fibers have an ultra-high modulus and thermal conductivity that are unmatched by other carbon fibers,making it irreplaceable in many fields.However,due to the high temperature dependence of the viscosity of the melted pitch and the poor mechanical properties of pitch fibers,it is difficult to reduce the fiber diameter when using continuous spinning.We used the Mathworks Matlab software to optimize the mesophase pitch melt spinning model and to simulate the effects of spinning temperature,mass flow rate,winder speed,and quenching air temperature near the spinneret on the maximum shear rate during drawing.Simulation results demonstrate that applying gradient cooling to the melt upon exiting the spinneret significantly reduces the maximum shear rate and extends the drawing zone,thereby promoting the spinning stability and helping reduce the fiber diameter.In the experiment,instead of quenching in air,we applied gradient cooling to the melt,whose temperature decreased according to the equation Ta=298+278exp(−11.4z),where Ta is the final air temperature in Kelvin,and z is the distance from the spinneret in meters.It was found the gradient cooling greatly improved the draw-down ratio,reducing the average diameter of the pitch fibers from 20.8 to 13.1μm,along with improved process stability.The experimental results are in excellent agreement with the predictions.At the same time,the tensile strength of the 1150℃ carbonized fibers increased from 0.6 to 1.1 GPa.Although the degree of orientation of the fibers decreased slightly,the tight bonding between microcrystals,the suppression of splitting,and the smaller diameter improved the mechanical properties of carbon fibers.This study provides an effective method for reducing the fiber diameter while improving continuity. 展开更多

The stability of the programmed manifold for numerical solutions of the kinematical and dynamical equations is obtained by corresponding construction of the constraint perturbation equations. The dynamical equations of system with programmed constraints are set up in the form of Lagrange’s equations in generalized coordinates. In this work,we construct two efficient fully decoupled,linear,unconditionally stable numerical algorithms for the thermally coupled incompressible magnetohydrodynamic equations.Firstly,in order to obtain the desired algorithm,we introduce a scalar auxiliary variable(SAV)to get a new equivalent system.Secondly,by combining the pressure-correction method and the explicit-implicit method,we perform semi-discrete numerical algorithms of first and second order,respectively.Then,we prove that the obtained algorithms follow an unconditionally stable law in energy,and we provide a detailed implementation process,which we only need to solve a series of linear differential equations with constant coefficients at each time step.More importantly,with some powerful analysis,we give the order of convergence of the errors.Finally,to illustrate theoretical results,some numerical experiments are given. 展开更多

Globally exponential stability (which implies convergence and uniqueness) of their classical iterative algorithm is established using methods of heat equations and energy integral after embedding the discrete iteration into a continuous flow. The stability condition depends explicitly on smoothness of the image sequence, size of image domain, value of the regularization parameter, and finally discretization step. Specifically, as the discretization step approaches to zero, stability holds unconditionally. The analysis also clarifies relations among the iterative algorithm, the original variation formulation and the PDE system. The proper regularity of solution and natural images is briefly surveyed and discussed. Experimental results validate the theoretical claims both on convergence and exponential stability. 展开更多

A uniform stability analysis is developed for a type of neutral delays differential equations which depend on more general nonlinear integral inequalities. Many original investigations and results are obtained. Firstly, generations of two integral nonlinear inequalities are presented, which are very effective in dealing with the complicated integro-differential inequalities whose variable exponents are greater than zero. Compared with existed integral inequalities, those proposed here can be applied to more complicated differential equations, such as time-varying delay neutral differential equations. Secondly, the notions of (ω, Ω) uniform stable and (ω, Ω) uniform asymptotically stable, especially (c1, c1) uniform stable and (c1, c1) uniform asymptotically stable, are presented. Sufficient conditions on about (c1, c1) uniform stable and (c1, c1) uniform asymptotically stable of time-varying delay neutral differential equations are established by the proposed integral inequalities. Finally, a complex numerical example is presented to illustrate the main results effectively. The above work allows to provide further applications on the proposed stability analysis and control system design for different nonlinear systems. © 2017 Beijing Institute of Aerospace Information. 展开更多

First, the path continuity assumption does not seem reason- able in view of the possibility of sudden price variations (jumps) resulting of market crashes. A solution is to use stochastic processes with jumps, that will account for sudden variations of the asset prices. On the other hand, such jump models are generally based on the Poisson random measure. Many popular economic and financial models described by stochastic differential equations with Poisson jumps. This paper deals with the approximate controllability of a class of second-order neutral stochastic differential equations with infinite delay and Poisson jumps. By using the cosine family of operators, stochastic analysis techniques, a new set of sufficient conditions are derived for the approximate controllability of the above control system. Constitutive equations and finite element implementation of strain localization in sand deformation 被引量:2

A recently proposed model coupling with the solid-fluid of the saturated sand was utilized to study the deformation band. Based on the critical state plasticity model by Borja and Andrade, the hydraulic conductivity tensor was naturally treated as a function of the spatial discretization matrix about the displacement and the stress field, allowing a more realistic representation of the physical phenomenon. The fully Lagrangian form of the Darcy law was resolved by Piola algorithm, and then the flow law was gained, leading to the implementation of a modified model of the saturated sand. Then the criterion for the onset of localization was derived and utilized to detect instability. The constitutive model was implemented in a finite element program coded by FORTRAN, which was used to predict the formation and development of shear bands in plane strain compression of saturated sand. At last, the formation mechanism of the shear band was discussed. It is shown that the model works well, and the simulation sample bifurcates at 1.18% axial strain, which is in a good qualitative agreement with the experiment. The pore pressure greatly affects the onset and development of the deformation band, and it obviously increases around the localization-prone regions with the direction toward the outer side of the normal of the shear band, while the pore stress flows nearly horizontally and is distributed equally far away the shear band region. 展开更多
