Electromagnetic Bloch-like oscillations in Fibonacci metamaterial waveguide arrays

This paper investigates optical transport in metamaterial waveguide arrays(MMWAs)exhibiting Bloch-like oscillations(BLOs).The MMWAs is fabricated by laterally combining metal and dielectric layers in a Fibonacci sequence.By mapping the field distribution of Gaussian wave packets in these arrays,we directly visualize the mechanical evolution in a classical wave environment.Three distinct oscillation modes are observed at different incident positions in the ninth-generation Fibonacci structure,without introducing thickness or refractive index gradient in any layer.Additionally,the propagation period of BLOs increases with a redshift of the incident wavelength for both ninth-and tenth-generation Fibonacci MMWAs.These findings provide a valuable method for manipulating BLOs and offer new insights into optical transport in metamaterials,with potential applications in optical device and wave control technologies. 展开更多

In this paper,we propose an RLC equivalent circuit model theory which can accurately predict the spectral response and resonance characteristics of metamaterial absorption structures,extend its design,and characterize the parameters of the model in detail.By employing this model,we conducted computations to characterize the response wavelength and bandwidth of variously sized metamaterial absorbers.A comparative analysis with Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD)simulations demonstrated a remarkable level of consistency in the results.The designed absorbers were fabricated using micro-nano fabrication processes,and were experimentally tested to demonstrate absorption rates exceeding 90%at a wavelength of 9.28μm.The predicted results are then compared with test results.The comparison reveals good consistency in two aspects of the resonance responses,thereby confirming the rationality and accuracy of this model. 展开更多

An improved estimation of distribution algorithm(IEDA)is proposed in this paper for efficient design of metamaterial absorbers.This algorithm establishes a probability model through the selected dominant groups and samples from the model to obtain the next generation,avoiding the problem of building-blocks destruction caused by crossover and mutation.Neighboring search from artificial bee colony algorithm(ABCA)is introduced to enhance the local optimization ability and improved to raise the speed of convergence.The probability model is modified by boundary correction and loss correction to enhance the robustness of the algorithm.The proposed IEDA is compared with other intelligent algorithms in relevant references.The results show that the proposed IEDA has faster convergence speed and stronger optimization ability,proving the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm. 展开更多

An ultrawideband reflectionless metamaterial absorber(MA)is proposed by replacing the metallic ground with the complementary split-ring resonator(CSRR)structure.The proposed MA exhibits-10 d B reflectivity spectrum from 1 GHz to 20 GHz,which maintains more than 90%absorption from 1.5 GHz to20 GHz.Furthermore,it achieves angle stability for TE and TM polarization at oblique incident angles up to 40°and 65°,respectively.To achieve broadband absorption spectrum,we have adopted a single-layer high-impedance surface(HIS)loaded with a double-layer magnetic material(MM)structure.To further realize the RCS reduction into a lower frequency range,we have employed the scattering cancellation technology into the traditional metallic ground.Finally,we have fabricated a sample exhibiting the 10 d B RCS reduction from 1 GHz to 20 GHz with a thickness of 10 mm.Measurement and simulation results confirm that the proposed MA exhibits excellent comprehensive performance,making it suitable for many practical applications. 展开更多

Multi-objective optimization(MOO)for the microwave metamaterial absorber(MMA)normally adopts evolutionary algo-rithms,and these optimization algorithms require many objec-tive function evaluations.To remedy this issue,a surrogate-based MOO algorithm is proposed in this paper where Kriging models are employed to approximate objective functions.An efficient sampling strategy is presented to sequentially capture promising samples in the design region for exact evaluations.Firstly,new sample points are generated by the MOO on surro-gate models.Then,new samples are captured by exploiting each objective function.Furthermore,a weighted sum of the improvement of hypervolume(IHV)and the distance to sampled points is calculated to select the new sample.Compared with two well-known MOO algorithms,the proposed algorithm is vali-dated by benchmark problems.In addition,two broadband MMAs are applied to verify the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

In order to suppress the low-frequency ultrasound vibration in the broadband range of 20 k Hz—100 k Hz,this paper proposes and discusses an acoustic metamaterial with low-frequency ultrasound vibration attenuation properties,which is configured by hybrid arc and sharp-angle convergent star-shaped lattices.The effect of the dispersion relation and the bandgap characteristic for the scatterers in star-shaped are simulated and analyzed.The target bandgap width is extended by optimizing the geometry parameters of arc and sharp-angle convergent lattices.The proposed metamaterial configured by optimized hybrid lattices exhibits remarkable broad bandgap characteristics by bandgap complementarity,and the simulation results verify a 99%vibration attenuation amplitude can be obtained in the frequency of20 k Hz—100 k Hz.After the fabrication of the proposed hybrid configurational star-shaped metamaterial by 3D printing technique,the transmission loss experiments are performed,and the experimental results indicate that the fabricated metamaterial has the characteristics of broadband vibration attenuation and an amplitude greater than 85%attenuation for the target frequency.These results demonstrate that the hybrid configurational star-shaped metamaterials can effectively widen the bandgap and realize high efficiency attenuation,which has capability for the vibration attenuation in the application of highprecise equipment. 展开更多

提出了一种可控超电磁材料Metamatrial与结构,研究了在4~10GHz范围内的电磁波传输系数与单站雷达散射截面(RCS)的电可控特性。对开口谐振环(Split ring resonators,SRRs)和带有p-i-n二极管的金属细线阵列,通过对间断处置有的5个... 提出了一种可控超电磁材料Metamatrial与结构,研究了在4~10GHz范围内的电磁波传输系数与单站雷达散射截面(RCS)的电可控特性。对开口谐振环(Split ring resonators,SRRs)和带有p-i-n二极管的金属细线阵列,通过对间断处置有的5个p-i-n二极管施加电压来改变介质和整个结构的电参数的有效特性,从而实现电磁波的传输特性控制和此种材料与结构的电控制。应用金属波导理论、ANSOFT HFSS,高、低阻抗表面(HLIS)和辐射边界条件等模拟传输系数和单站雷达散射截面(RCS),得出整个超电磁Metamatrial材料与结构在谐振频带6.0GHz附近有好的近似导通与截止的控制特性;对于垂直入射的平面波,在不加铁氧体情况下RCS可减小-5dBm,传输系数约-30dB(5.4GHz附近);添加铁氧体其谐振频率将朝低频发生位移,在谐振点附近传输特性表现为更差,而通、断可控特性表现为传输系数可调范围约-28dB,RCS可调范围约-10dBm。 展开更多

The purpose of the research is to assess the sound absorption performance(SAP)of acoustic metamaterials made of double-layer Nomex honeycomb structures in which a micro-orifice corresponds to a honeycomb unit.For this purpose,the influences of structural parameters on the SAP of acoustic metamaterials were investigated by using experimental testing and a validated theoretical model.In addition,the sandwich structure was optimized by the genetic algorithm.The research shows that the panel thickness and micro-orifice diameter mainly affect the second resonant frequency and second peak sound absorption coefficient(SAC)of the structure.The unit cell size is found to influence the first and second resonant frequencies and two peaks of the SAC.An extremely low side-length of the honeycomb core decreases the SAP of the structure for low-frequency noise signals.Additionally,the sandwich structure presents a better SAP when the diameter of micro-orifices on the front micro-perforated panel(MPP)exceeds that of the back MPP.The sandwich structure shows better noise reduction performance after the optimization aiming at the noise frequency outside trains. 展开更多

The electromagnetic scattering of chiral metamaterials is simulated with the Mie series method.Based on the spherical harmonics vector function in chiral metamaterials,the electromagnetic fields inside and outside of chiral metamaterials sphere are expanded.By applying the continuous boundary condition between the chiral metamaterials and surrounding medium,and the transformation from linearly to circularly polarized electric field components,the co-polarized and cross-polarized bistatic radar cross scattering(RCS) of chiral metamaterials sphere are given.How to overcome the instability of chiral metamaterials sphere of Mie series formula is discussed.The electromagnetic scattering of chiral metamaterials,normal media and metamaterials are compared.The numerical results show that the existence of chirality ξ of chiral metamaterials can decrease the bistatic RCS compared with the same size as normal media sphere. 展开更多

A nearly perfect metamaterial absorber is proposed that can find utility in terahertz sensing applications.The design consists of two concentric elliptical ring resonators(ERRs)whose parameters are appropriately set to achieve dual band absorption with near perfect absorption.The first absorption band at 3.62 THz having a Q-factor of 51.7 was caused due to the currents in the outer and inner ERR.The second absorption peak at 3.814 THz having a Q factor of 1411.11 was a consequence of currents flowing across the gap between the two concentric resonators.Furthermore,it is observed that the absorption bands are sensitive to the variation in refractive index of the surrounding medium.The sensitivity's in the absorption bands are 3 THz/RIU and 3.59 THz/RIU respectively.A sensor is proposed based on this design to detect harmful gases,which is demonstrated for detection of Methane and Chloroform.High Q-factor and high sensitivity of the narrow band makes the design an excellent sensor for detecting variations in the refractive index. 展开更多

In order to simulate metamaterial rotational symmetric open region problems,unconditionally stable perfectly match layer(PML)implementation is proposed in the body of revolution(BOR)finite-difference time-domain(FDTD)lattice.More precisely,the proposed algorithm is implemented by the Crank-Nicolson(CN)Douglas-Gunn(DG)procedure for BOR metamaterial simulation.The constitutive relationship of metamaterial can be expressed by the Drude model and calculated by the piecewise linear recursive convolution(PLRC)approach.The effectiveness including absorption,efficiency,and accuracy is demonstrated through the numerical example.It can be concluded that the proposed implementation is to take the advantages of the CNDG-PML procedure,PLRC approach,and BORFDTD algorithm in terms of considerable accuracy,enhanced absorption and remarkable efficiency.Meanwhile,it can be demonstrated that the proposed scheme can maintain its unconditional stability when the time step exceeds the CourantFriedrichs-Levy(CFL)condition. 展开更多

Left-hand materials have drawn increasing attention from many disciplines and found widespread application, especially in microwave engineering. A sandwiched metamaterial consisting of multi-nested square-split-ring resonators on the top side and a set of wires on the back side is proposed. Scattering parameters are retrieved by high-frequency structure simulator(HFSS) software based on the finite element method. Effects of square-split-ring number on the left-hand characteristics containing negative values of permittivity, permeability, and refractive index have been intensively investigated. Simulated results show that obvious resonant left-hand characteristics could be observed within 8-18 GHz, and the resonant frequency counts are inclined to be in direct proportion to the square-split-ring number over 8-18 GHz. Besides, the proposed sandwiched metamaterial with three square-split-ring resonators and three wires presents the widest frequency band of left-hand characteristics in a range of 8-18 GHz. Further, electromagnetic field distributions demonstrated that the induced magnetic dipole dominates the resonant absorption. The multi-peak resonance characteristics of square-split-ring resonant structure are considered to be a promising candidate for selective-frequency absorption or modulation toward microwave frequency band. 展开更多
