The parameters of the mixed RDX-AI dust detonation wave are obtained. The double-front detonation and steady state of detonation wave of the mixed dust are analyzed. For the dust mixed RDX with density of 0.565kg/m3 and radius of 10μm as well as aluminum with density of 0.145kg/m3 and radius of 4μm, the detonation wave will reach a steady state at 23m. The effects of the size of aluminum on the detonation are analyzed. For constant radius of RDX particles with radius of 10μm, as the radius of aluminum particles is larger than 2.0 μm, the double-front detonation can be observed due to the different ignition distances and reaction rates of RDX and aluminum particles. As the radius of aluminum particles is larger, the velocity, pressure and temperature of detonation wave will be slower. The pressure at the Chapman-Jouguet (CJ) point also becomes lower. Comparing the detonation with single RDX dust, the pressure and temperature in the flow field of detonation of mixed dust are higher.展开更多

The critical water activity(Awc) for phase transition in amorphous materials is an important characteristic of amorphous inert dusts used as grain protectants. As water activity(Aw) rises above Awc, amorphous dusts undergo a transition from glassy or vitreous state to rubbery state. Such a transition induces dramatic changes in material properties, texture and structure, and hence impact their performance as grain protectants. Full Dynamic Dewpoint Isotherms(DDI) of a synthetic amorphous zeolite intended for grain protection were generated using the Vapor Sorption Analyzer(VSA) to determine Awcby investigating the relationship between moisture content and Awat constant temperatures. Sorption experimental data was fitted using three sorption isotherm models: Guggenheim-Anderson-de Boer(GAB), Double Log Polynomial(DLP),and Brunauer-Emmet-Teller(BET). DLP model was the best model to estimate zeolite and wheat sorption isotherms. Full sorption isotherms of zeolite and wheat obtained at 25, 35, and 45 °C clearly showed the hysteresis phenomenon. The hysteresis loops were of type H3 for wheat, and of type H4 for zeolite powder. The intensity of hysteresis remained unchanged for wheat. However, the intensity of hysteresis decreased with increasing temperatures during water adsorption by porous zeolite powder. Monolayer moisture content values for each sorption direction were provided only by GAB and BET models and indicated a decrease in monolayer moisture content with an increase in temperature. The net isosteric heats of sorption and the differential enthalpy of zeolite estimated by the Clausius–Clapeyron equation and determined graphically decreased with increasing moisture content. Conversely, differential entropy of zeolite decreased with increasing zeolite moisture content. The optimal moisture content of inert dust for grain treatment was dependent on wheat moisture content and wheat storage temperature. This is the first time that a synthetic amorphous dust is being investigated for grain protection. Our results recommend the application of inert dusts at the optimal moisture content to mitigate moisture migration within the system "wheat-dust", thus ensuring dust maximal efficacy.展开更多

Therefore, methane and dust dispersion in underground mines is closely monitored and strictly regulated. Accordingly, significant efforts have been devoted to study methane and dust dispersion in underground mines. In this study, methane emission and dust concentration are numerically investigated using a computational fluid dynamics(CFD) approach. Various possible scenarios of underground mine configurations are evaluated. The results indicate that the presence of continuous miner adversely affects the air flow and leads to increased methane and dust concentrations.Nevertheless, it is found that such negative effect can be minimized or even neutralized by operating the scrubber fan in suction mode. In addition, it was found that the combination of scrubber fan in suction mode and brattice results in the best performance in terms of methane and dust removal from the mining face.展开更多

Coal dust contact with water is actually a compound contact of liquid in contact with a solid and gas in contact with a solid. The smaller the particle size, the larger the pore volume and the higher the degree of surface roughness, the larger the area of gas in contact with a solid and the worse the coal dust wettability.Another reason is that the changes in the composition of atoms on the dust surface and structures affect coal dust wettability. The results of this study establish a theoretical basis for the invention of effective reduced-dust technology.展开更多

Brattice installation to direct the flow from main shaft to the mining face was found to be the most effective method to disperse dust particle away from the mining face. However,it limits the movement and disturbs the flexibility of the mining fleets and operators at the tunnel. This study proposes a hybrid brattice system- a combination of a physical brattice together with suitable and flexible directed and located air curtains- to mitigate dust dispersion from the mining face and reduce dust concentration to a safe level for the working operators. A validated three-dimensional computational fluid dynamic model utilizing Eulerian–Lagrangian approach is employed to track the dispersion of dust particle. Several possible hybrid brattice scenarios are evaluated with the objective to improve dust management in underground mine. The results suggest that implementation of hybrid brattice is beneficial for the mining operation: up to three times lower dust concentration is achieved as compared to that of the physical brattice without air curtain.展开更多

文摘To overcome the drawbacks of the conventional foam technology used for dust suppression, including large pressure loss, high water pressure and low driving pressure,a new pneumatic foaming system is introduced. Then an original design of foaming agent mixing device is proposed, and its performance is investigated and evaluated under different pressure compensations.Experimental results show that the maximum absorption amount increases by 2.9-6.7 times at a pressure compensation of 0.04-0.2 MPa compared with no pressure compensation. The pressure loss and pressure fluctuation both reduce significantly with increasing pressure compensation. The critical outlet pressure increases by30.4-240%.Field application indicates that the proposed mixing device ensures the reliable addition of foaming agent used for foam dust suppression. The effect of foam on dust suppression is remarkable, and the economic cost of foam is low. Therefore, there is reason to believe that the new mixing device will greatly promote foam technology to be widely used for suppressing dust in underground coal mines.
文摘Advancing the application of safety and health(S&H)technologies is likely to remain a value in the mining industry. However, any information that technologies generate must be translated from the organization to the workforce in a targeted way to result in sustainable change.Using a case study approach with continuous personal dust monitors(CPDMs),this paper argues for an organizational focus on technology integration.Although CPDMs provide mineworkers with near real-time feedback about their respirable coal dust exposure, they do not ensure that workers or the organization will continuously use the information to learn about and reduce exposure sources. This study used self-determination theory(SDT)to help three mines manage and communicate about information learned from the CPDM technology.Specifically,35 mineworkers participated in two mixed-method data collection efforts to discuss why they do or do not use CPDMs to engage in dust-reducing practices.Subsequently, the data was analyzed to better understand how organizations can improve the integration of technology through their management systems. Results indicate that using the CPDM to reduce sources of dust exposure is consistent with mineworkers’self-values to protect their health and not necessarily because of compliance to a manager or mine.

文摘In order to improve the utilization rate of foam,an arc jet nozzle was designed for precise dust control.Through theoretical analysis, the different demands of foam were compared amongst arc jets, flat jets and full cone jets when the dust source was covered identically by foam.It is proved that foam consumption was least when an arc jet was used.Foam production capability of an arc jet nozzle under different conditions was investigated through experiments. The results show that with the gas liquid ratio(GLR)increasing, the spray state of an arc jet nozzle presents successively water jet, foam jet and mist.Under a reasonable working condition range of foam production and a fixed GLR,foam production quantity increases at first, and then decreases with the increase of liquid supply quantity. When the inner diameter of the nozzle is 14 mm,the best GLR is 30 and the optimum liquid supply quantity is0.375 m^3/h.The results of field experiments show that the total dust and respirable dust suppression efficiency of arc jet nozzles is 85.8%and 82.6%respectively,which are 1.39 and 1.37 times higher than the full cone nozzles and 1.20 and 1.19 times higher than the fiat nozzles.

文摘This study aims to make full use of the agricultural waste peanut shells to lower material costs and achieve cleaner production at the same time.Cellulose nanofibrils(CNF)extracted from peanut shells were mixed with acrylic acid(AA)and dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride(DMDAAC)to prepare a new type of capsule core(dust suppressant). Then, the self-adaptive AA-DM-CNF/CA microcapsules were prepared under the action of calcium alginate. The infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis results suggest that AA,DMDAAC and CNF have experienced graft copolymerization which leads to the formation of an amorphous structure. The scanning electron microscopy analysis results demonstrate that the internal dust suppressant can expand and break the wall after absorbing water, featuring a self-adaptive function.Meanwhile, the laser particle size analysis results show that the microcapsules, inside which the encapsulated dust suppressant can be observed clearly, maintain a good shape. The product performance experimental results reveal that the capsule core and the capsule wall achieve synergistic dust suppression, thus lengthening the dust suppression time. The product boasts good dust suppression, weather resistance, degradation and synergistic combustion performances. Moreover, this study,as the first report on the development and analysis of dust-suppressing microcapsules, fills in the research gap on the reaction mechanism between dust-suppressing microcapsules and coal by MS simulation. The proposed AA-DM-CNF/CA dust-suppressing microcapsules can effectively lower the dust concentration in the space and protect the physical and mental health of coal workers. In general, this research provides a new insight into the structure control and performance enhancement of dust suppressants.Expanding the application range of microcapsules is of crucial economic and social benefits.
文摘The two-phase detonation of suspended mixed cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine (i.e., RDX) and aluminum dust in air is simulated with a two-phase flow model. Comparing the detonation with single RDX dust, the pressure and temperature in the flow field of detonation of mixed dust are higher.

文摘Water-solid interactions play a key role in determining the efficacy of inert dusts. Our results recommend the application of inert dusts at the optimal moisture content to mitigate moisture migration within the system "wheat-dust", thus ensuring dust maximal efficacy.

文摘In underground coal mines, uncontrolled accumulation of methane and fine coal dust often leads to serious incidents such as explosion. In addition, it was found that the combination of scrubber fan in suction mode and brattice results in the best performance in terms of methane and dust removal from the mining face.

文摘In this study,FTIR and XPS spectroscopy, specific surface area and pore size analyses, wetting and other experimental means have been applied to investigate respirable coal dust surface properties and wetting mechanism. The research shows that coal dust surface structures, chemical and element compositions are changed in the refining process of coal dust.Compared with large particle coal dust, respirable coal dust is a weak hydrophilic and strong hydrophobic substance. The reason:the smaller the particle size of coal dust, the more unsaturated its surface. The absorption of air is strong and it is easy to form an air film on coal dust surfaces. The results of this study establish a theoretical basis for the invention of effective reduced-dust technology.
文摘Accumulation of float coal dust(FCD)in underground mines is an explosion hazard that affects all underground coal mine workers. While this hazard is addressed by the application of rock dust, inadequate rock dusting practices can leave miners exposed to an explosion risk.Researchers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH)have focused on developing a water curtain that removes FCD from the airstream, thereby reducing the buildup of FCD in mine airways. In this study, the number and spacing of the active sprays in the water curtain were varied to determine the optimal configuration to obtain peak knockdown efficiency(KE)while minimizing water consumption.
文摘The internal mechanism of the high hydrophobicity of the coal samples from the Pingdingshan mining area was studied through industrial, element, and surface functional group analysis.Laboratory testing and molecular dynamics simulations were employed to study the impact of three types of surfactants on the surface adsorption properties and wettability of highly hydrophobic bituminous coal. The results show that the surface of highly hydrophobic bituminous coal is compact, rich in inorganic minerals, and poorly wettable and that coal molecules are dominated by hydrophobic functional groups of aromatic rings and aliphatic structures. The wetting performance of surfactants as the intermediate carrier to connect coal and water molecules is largely determined by the interaction force between surfactants and coal(Fs-c)and the interaction force between surfactants and water(Fs-w),which effectively improve the wettability of modified coal dust via modifying its surface electrical properties and surface energy.A new type of wetting agent with a dust removal rate of 89%has been developed through discovery of a compound wetting agent solution with optimal wetting and settling performance. This paper provides theoretical and technical support for removing highly hydrophobic bituminous coal dust in underground mining.

文摘A proper control and management of dust dispersion is essential to ensure safe and productive underground working environment. The results suggest that implementation of hybrid brattice is beneficial for the mining operation: up to three times lower dust concentration is achieved as compared to that of the physical brattice without air curtain.
