Then, a method to infer the cross-regional spread speed of COVID-19 was ...This paper first estimated the infectious capacity of COVID-19 based on the time series evolution data of confirmed cases in multiple countries. Then, a method to infer the cross-regional spread speed of COVID-19 was introduced in this paper, which took the gross domestic product(GDP) of each region as one of the factors that affect the spread speed of COVID-19 and studied the relationship between the GDP and the infection density of each region(China's Mainland, the United States, and EU countries). In addition, the geographic distance between regions was also considered in this method and the effect of geographic distance on the spread speed of COVID-19 was studied. Studies have shown that the probability of mutual infection of these two regions decreases with increasing geographic distance. Therefore, this paper proposed an epidemic disease spread index based on GDP and geographic distance to quantify the spread speed of COVID-19 in a region. The analysis results showed a strong correlation between the epidemic disease spread index in a region and the number of confirmed cases. This finding provides reasonable suggestions for the control of epidemics. Strengthening the control measures in regions with higher epidemic disease spread index can effectively control the spread of epidemics.展开更多
The microbial induced calcium carbonate precipitation(MICP)technology provides a new approach to solve borehole destabilization in broken formations;however,the high-temperature and alkaline environments inhibit the g...The microbial induced calcium carbonate precipitation(MICP)technology provides a new approach to solve borehole destabilization in broken formations;however,the high-temperature and alkaline environments inhibit the growth of microorganisms,which in turn affects the performance of their wall enhancement performance.In this study,a pH and temperature-coupled induced domestication method was applied to Bacillus pasteurii,and its wall enhancement performance was evaluated.Post domestication,Bacillus pasteurii exhibited high growth activity at pH 10.3 and temperature 45℃.In a sodium carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC)drilling fluid environment,bacterial concentration reached 1.373 with urease activity at 1.98 after 24 h,and in a xanthan gum(XG)environment,the figures were 0.931 and 1.76,respectively—significantly higher than those before domestication.The Bacillus pasteurii-CMC system exhibited enhanced performance with the unconfined compressive strength of the specimen up to 1.232 MPa,permeability coefficient as low as 0.024,and calcium carbonate production up to 24.685 g.The crushed specimen portions remained lumpy with even calcium carbonate distribution.In contrast,the Bacillus pasteurii-XG system exhibited the highest unconfined compressive strength of 0.561 MPa,lowest permeability coefficient of 0.081,and the greatest calcium carbonate production of 16.03 g,with an externally cemented shell but internally loose structure and uneven calcium carbonate distribution,resulting in weaker mechanical properties.The Bacillus pasteurii induced predominantly vaterite calcium carbonate crystals in the CMC drilling fluid.In the XG drilling fluid,the crystals were mainly calcite.Both types effectively cemented the broken particles,improving formation strength and reducing permeability.However,under the same conditions,the Bacillus pasteurii-CMC system demonstrated a more pronounced enhancement effect.展开更多

Local communities in southern Africa derive many benefits from marula [Sclerocarya birrea（A.Rich.） Hochst.subsp.caffra（Sond.） Kokwaro].These include the contribution of this species towards health,nutrition,food s...Local communities in southern Africa derive many benefits from marula [Sclerocarya birrea（A.Rich.） Hochst.subsp.caffra（Sond.） Kokwaro].These include the contribution of this species towards health,nutrition,food security and conservation by sharing local skills and knowledge related to it.Marula fruits can be eaten fresh,squeezed to make juice,brewed in traditional beer or used to make jam and jelly.The kernels are also edible and can be pressed to extract oil for cooking and cosmetics,i.e.,for skin and hair application.The bark,roots,seeds and leaves are exploited for traditional medicinal purposes.Marula has acquired significant commercial value since its fruits and other products have entered local,regional and international trade in southern Africa.To diver-sify fruit production and satisfy the increasing demands for this resource,several domestication initiatives have been carried out at regional and international levels.The accumulated knowledge and skills relevant to the establishment and commercialization of marula therefore provide an effective guide in areas where marula remains undomesticated or underutilized.We discuss the great importance of marula in southern Africa to reveal its great potential to regions where it remains unexploited.展开更多

The results indicate that for domestic sewage (averagely, ρ(BOD5)=295.7 mg/L; ρ(CODCr )= 811.7 mg/L; ρ(SS)= 119.6 mg/L), the removal rates are 95.3%, 85.7%, 91%, respectively. The CASS technique is operable in a wide range of temperature (about -5～20 ℃), but φ(S) and ρ(S) values are higher at low temperature than those at normal temperature. A low temperature is good for oxygen transmission and the cyclic fluctuation of DO (dissolved oxygen) is benefit for the removal of P and N, preventing the sludge from bulking.展开更多
A 24 L working volume reactor was used for the research on simultaneous phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) removal by denitrifying dephosphatation in an anaerobic-oxid-anoxic-oxid sequencing batch reactor ((AO)_2SBR) sys...A 24 L working volume reactor was used for the research on simultaneous phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) removal by denitrifying dephosphatation in an anaerobic-oxid-anoxic-oxid sequencing batch reactor ((AO)_2SBR) system. The durations of each phase are: anaerobic 1.5 h, aerobic 2.5 h, anoxic 1.5 h, post-aerobic 0.5 h, settling 1.0 h, fill 0.5 h. The successful removal of nitrogen and phosphorus is achieved in a stable (AO)_2SBR. The effluent P concentrations is below 1 mg/L, and the COD,TN and P average removal efficiency is 88.9%, 77.5% and 88.7%, respectively. The batch experiment results show that the durations of aerobic and anoxic phase influence the P removal efficiency. Some feature points are found on the DO, ORP and pH curves to demonstrate the complete of phosphate release and phosphate uptake. These feature points can be used for the control of (AO)_2 SBR.展开更多

Since an ...The purpose of this study is to contribute to the literature by studying the effects of sudden changes both on crude oil import price and domestic gasoline price on inflation for Turkey, an emerging country. Since an inflation targeting regime is being carried out by the Central Bank of Turkey, determination of such effects is becoming more important. Therefore empirical evidence in this paper will serve as guidance for those countries, which have an in- flation targeting regime. Analyses have been done in the period of October 2005-December 2012 by Markovswitching vector autoregressive （MS-VAR） models which are successful in capturing the nonlinear properties of variables. Using MS-VAR analysis, it is found that there are 2 regimes in the analysis period. Furthermore, regime changes can be dated and the turning points of economic cycles can be determined. In addition, it is found that the effect of the changes in crude oil and domestic gasoline prices on consumer prices and core inflation is not the same under different regimes. Moreover, the sudden increase in gasoline price is more important for consumer price infla- tion than crude oil price shocks. Another finding is the presence of a pass-through effect from oil price and ga- soline price to core inflation.展开更多

Since an inflation targeting regime is being carried out by the Central Bank of Turkey, determination of such effects is becoming more important. Therefore empirical evidence in this paper will serve as guidance for those countries, which have an in- flation targeting regime. Analyses have been done in the period of October 2005-December 2012 by Markovswitching vector autoregressive （MS-VAR） models which are successful in capturing the nonlinear properties of variables. Using MS-VAR analysis, it is found that there are 2 regimes in the analysis period. Furthermore, regime changes can be dated and the turning points of economic cycles can be determined. In addition, it is found that the effect of the changes in crude oil and domestic gasoline prices on consumer prices and core inflation is not the same under different regimes. Moreover, the sudden increase in gasoline price is more important for consumer price infla- tion than crude oil price shocks. Another finding is the presence of a pass-through effect from oil price and ga- soline price to core inflation.
