An Integrated Die Casting Design System

Die casting process is one of the prime options for m anufacturing precisely dimensioned, sharply defined metal parts. The design of d ie casting dies comprises several stages and entails a large amount of time. Tra ditionally, the different stages of the die design were not integrated but exist as separate entities. Moreover, recurring modifications or even redesigns are r equired due to the complexity in achieving an accurate initial die design. As a result, die design is usually time-consuming and costly with respect to resourc es. The die casting industry will greatly benefit if proper application software are developed that integrates the different die design stages and allows editin g of die design as and when needed. Hence it is imperative to create an integrat ed die design system that shortens the die design time. This paper presents a research that establishes a prototype of an integrated die design system. It is developed using the commercial SolidWorks CAD system and n amed DiWorks. The aim of building the system on a commercial CAD system is to ut ilise the resources and features of the CAD system to speed up the die design pr ocess. DiWorks consists of six distinct modules: Project Manager, Cavity Insert Builder, Gating System Constructor, Die Base Designer, Ejector System Constructo r and Standard Components Library. Through these six modules, the die designer c an create a complete die casting die beginning from a product part model. It is a user-friendly system that allows both experienced and novice die designers to easily accomplish the task of die design. The practical goal of this research is twofold: to develop a system that integra tes the die design process and at the same time facilitates the editing of d ie design during or after the course of the design process. The research approac h includes (i) parametric design, (ii) feature-based design (iii) system modeli ng and implementation. Parametric design deals with variable dimensions as contr ol parameters, and it is an efficient tool for creating models based on paramete rs. Parametric design not only increases the design efficiency, but also makes t he updates and modifications of existing designs easier and faster, since these can be achieved by changing the parameters of the parametric model. Feature-bas ed design is used to design a product with features that are functionally define d by attributes and are geometrically represented by a set of parameters. The re sults of this research will aid the automation of the die design process, thus i mproving the efficiency and quality of, and reducing the cost of die design. 展开更多

In order to meet the need for network manufacturing, the organization and manage ment of manufacturing enterprise need a completely innovation, next generation o f manufacturing system must have the character such as digitization, flexibility , agility, customization and globalization and so on. As for an enterprise in au to industry, how to gather together the orders through the distribution, and rap id produce the product which can meet the customer’s need, it is the key that th e contemporary enterprises succeed in the competitive market. The competitive market requires rapid product development. Close cooperation amo ng the designers will accelerate the product development by shortening the devel opment cycle, improving the product quality and reducing the investment. It has been emphasized in the methodology of concurrent engineering (CE). But sometimes those partners are distributed in the world, so there is a need for an importan t technology contribution to collaborative engineering, and supporting distribut ed designers for rapid product development. This paper focuses on a collaborative design system: Product Digit Collaborative Design System (PDCDS). The solution of PDCDS can make it more efficient and rel iable to visit teledata as well as we can get it from local database. It will be ease to get the newest design process information aided by PDCDS, and it will h ave higher efficiency by collaborative work. Comparing with other traditional Pr oduct Data Management (PDM) software system, PDCDS have some new characters such as group, dynamicness, synchronization or asynchronism working mode, and the hi story recorder is needed, and it also surport Webservice. 展开更多

According to increase of circuitry numbers of LSI, the test application time of a full scan design method becomes one of the bottleneck problems for the LSI productivity. The test application time is corresponding to the test length, thus the reduction of the test length in a scan design is strongly required. In this paper, we propose a partial scan design system at RT level design, named REPS, to reduce the test application time. REPS has the following new features: (1) a scan register selection method at RT level; (2) a DFT database is prepared to estimate test length of blocks; and (3) a DFT strategy generation for the shortest test length. We applied REPS to some test designs for a practical LSI that described at RT level. It is found that REPS estimates an accurate test length for an LSI at RTL, i.e. the error of the length is less than 10% from that at the gate level. As a result, the test length generated by the partial scan design method was 37% shorter than that by the conventional full scan design method. 展开更多

As the mining industry continues to expand and international oil prices increase,more rigorous demands are being placed on the design of mining equipment.Given this,there is an urgent need to develop new power-driven mining equipment to solve the problems of high energy consumption and insufficient power coupling of current equipment.This study proposed a design of a hybrid power system for underground Load Haul Dump(LHD).The proposed design integrated Quality Function Deployment(QFD)and Theory of Inventive Problem Solving(TRIZ).It identified 7 user requirements and 10 related technical features,formulated 11 innovative design solutions,and ultimately adopting an electric drive hybrid power scheme.This scheme effectively addressesd power transmission coupling problems and improve the efficiency of loaders.A 6 m³hybrid power loader prototype has been developed,which reduces operational energy consumption and advances the electrification and green,low-carbon evolution of mining equipment. 展开更多

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform enables radar and communication functions simultaneously, which encounters low angle resolution and poor data rate for traditional single input single output (SISO) systems. To solve these problems, an integrated radar and communication system (IRCS) with multiple input multiple output (MIMO) OFDM waveform is proposed. The different limitations of radar and communication in designing such a system are investigated. Then, an optimization problem is devised to obtain suitable system parameters, including the number of subcarriers, subcarrier spacing, number of symbols, pulse repetition frequency (PRF) and length of cyclic prefix (CP). Finally, to satisfy the requirements of both radar and communication, the IRCS parameters are derived in three typical cases. Several numerical results are presented to illustrate the demands of radar and communication, inconsistent or consistent, for the IRCS parameters and the superiority of the proposed system. 展开更多

Two conditions required by using the lifting technique are presented based on the basic formulae of the lifting. By using Visual Studio 2008 and Microsoft Office Access 2003, an immunization information system was developed based on Client/Server structure and combined with the key immunization link of horses. The system included studfarm immune management and racecourse health monitoring system. The immune management contained immunization information input, the inquiry of immunization information, immunization statistics, immunization-reminding and system management. The racecourse health monitoring system included stud-farm monitoring, horses monitoring and inquiry and statistics of health monitoring. The software realized the analysis and tips of the daily information in stud-farm. The software could record the appropriate data and carry on the statistics. The stud-farm daily management system greatly improved the efficiency of the expanded program about immunization and horses' healthy rearing technique. 展开更多

System deployment optimization (SDO) refers to the process of optimizing systems that are being deployed to activi- ties. This paper first formulates a mathematical model to theorize and operationalize the SDO problem and then identifies optimal so- lutions to solve the SDO problem. In the solutions, the success rate of the combat task is maximized, whereas the execution time of the task and the cost of changes in the system structure are mini- mized. The presented optimized algorithm generates an optimal solution without the need to check the entire search space. A novel method is finally proposed based on the combination of heuristic method and genetic algorithm (HGA), as well as the combination of heuristic method and particle swarm optimization (HPSO). Experi- ment results show that the HPSO method generates solutions faster than particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algo- rithm (GA) in terms of execution time and performs more efficiently than the heuristic method in terms of determining the best solution. 展开更多

In order to provide relay communication supports for future Chinese lunar exploration program,Queqiao-2 relay communication satellite was developed.Queqiao-2 can perform scientific observations with three kinds of scientific instruments on board.The system design of Queqiao-2,including mission orbit and transfer orbit design,configuration and layout design,housekeeping and information flow design,power supply and distribution design,GNC and propulsion system design,communication links design,etc.,was accomplished through comprehensive tradeoff and evaluation on technical maturity,availability,schedule,cost,and so on.With a view to reducing development risk,both the platform and relay communication payloads were developed based on significant heritage from previous Queqiao relay satellite and other relevant spacecraft.Queqiao-2 features flexible system architecture to support multiple frequencies,modulations,data rates and software reconfigurations to meet new user requirements.Subsequent to a successful launch on March 20,2024,by means of 5 orbit maneuvers,Queqiao-2 was inserted into a highly elliptical frozen mission orbit around the moon with a 24h period on schedule.Following on-orbit tests and calibrations,Queqiao-2 has possessed the capacity to provide reliable relay communication services to multiple lunar exploration missions,as well as the capacity to perform scientific observations.Under the support of Queqiao-2,Chang′e-6 achieved its ambitious mission goal to collect and return samples from the moon′s mysterious far side.In the meanwhile,Queqiao-2 has also paved the way for the following Chinese lunar exploration missions including Chang′e-7 and Chang′e-8.The design life time of Queqiao-2 is more than 8 years.Benefit from flexibility and extensibility of relay communication system design,it is convenient to provide relay communication services for future lunar exploration missions of both China and other countries.In addition,innovative scientific observations would be performed during the period that no relay communication task is arranged.The system design of Queqiao-2 reflects the development philosophy of technical innovations and inheritance integration.Based on highly flexible and extensible system architecture,multiple and concurrent relay communication mission requirements can be met.It can provide strong supports for future lunar exploration missions.Successful launching,orbit entering and on-orbit tests of Queqiao-2 verified the correct design principle and versatility.By means of Queqiao-2,more innovative scientific outcomes are anticipated and lunar exploration activities can be facilitated. 展开更多

Diesel engines meeting the latest emission regulations must be equipped with exhaust gas aftertreatment system,including diesel oxidation catalysts(DOC),diesel particulate filters(DPF),and selective catalytic reduction(SCR).However,before the final integration of the aftertreatment system(DOC+DPF+SCR)and the diesel engine,a reasonable structural optimization of the catalytic converters and a large number of bench calibration tests must be completed,involving large costs and long development cycles.The design and optimization of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system for a heavy-duty diesel engine was proposed in this paper.Firstly,one-dimensional(1D)and threedimensional(3D)computational models of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system accounting for the structural parameters of the catalytic converters were established.Then based on the calibrated models,the effects of the converter’s structural parameters on their main performance indicators,including the conversion of various exhaust pollutants and the temperatures and pressure drops of the converters,were studied.Finally,the optimal design scheme was obtained.The temperature distribution of the solid substrates and pressure distributions of the catalytic converters were studied based on the 3D model.The method proposed in this paper has guiding significance for the optimization of diesel engine aftertreatment systems. 展开更多

In order to realize safe and accurate homing of parafoil system,a multiphase homing trajectory planning scheme is proposed according to the maneuverability and basic flight characteristics of the vehicle.In this scenario,on the basis of geometric relationship of each phase trajectory,the problem of trajectory planning is transformed to parameter optimizing,and then auxiliary population-based quantum differential evolution algorithm(AP-QDEA)is applied as a tool to optimize the objective function,and the design parameters of the whole homing trajectory are obtained.The proposed AP-QDEA combines the strengths of differential evolution algorithm(DEA)and quantum evolution algorithm(QEA),and the notion of auxiliary population is introduced into the proposed algorithm to improve the searching precision and speed.The simulation results show that the proposed AP-QDEA is proven its superior in both effectiveness and efficiency by solving a set of benchmark problems,and the multiphase homing scheme can fulfill the requirement of fixed-points and upwind landing in the process of homing which is simple in control and facile in practice as well. 展开更多

Two building factors-a longer thermal lag of more than one hour for building envelops and a lag of indoor radiation to convert into cooling load-have impact on the instantaneous heat input and instantaneous cooling load.So the two factors should be taken into account when selecting the weather parameters for air-conditioning system design.This paper developed a new statistic method for the rational selection of coincident solar irradiance,dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures.The method was applied to historic weather records of 25 years in Hong Kong to generate coincident design weather data.And the results show that traditional design solar irradiance,dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures may be significantly overestimated in many conditions,and the design weather data for the three different constructions is not kept constant. 展开更多

The ongoing need for better fuel economy and lower exhaust pollution of vehicles has increased the employment of electric power steering(EPS)in automotives.Optimal design of EPS for a product family reduces the development and fabrication costs significantly.In this paper,the TOPSIS method along with the NSGA-Ⅱis employed to find an optimum family of EPS for an automotive platform.A multi-objective optimization problem is defined considering road feel,steering portability,RMS of Ackerman error,and product family penalty function(PFPF)as the conflicting objective functions.The results for the single objective optimization problems and the ones for the multi-objective optimization problem,as well as two suggested trade-off design points are presented,compared and discussed.For the two suggested points,performance at one objective function is deteriorated by about 1%,while the commonality is increased by 20%–40%,which shows the effectiveness of the proposed method in first finding the non-dominated design points and then selecting the trade-off among the obtained points.The results indicate that the obtained trade-off points have superior performance within the product family with maximum number of common parts. 展开更多

The controller designed here consists of a linear feedback part and a nonlinear part. The linear part is responsible for stability and fast response of the closed-loop system. The nonlinear part serves to increase the damping ratio of closed-loop poles as the controlled output approaches the target reference. The CNF control brings together the good points of both the small and the large damping ratio cases, by continuously scheduling the damping ratio of the dominant closed-loop poles and thus has the capability for superior transient performance, i.e. a fast output response with low overshoot. In the presence of constant disturbances, an integral action is included so as to remove the static bias. An explicitly parameterized controller is derived for servo positioning systems characterized by second-order model. Practical application in a micro hard disk drive servo system is then presented, together with some discussion of the rationale and characteristics of such design. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this control design methodology. 展开更多

This paper addresses a problem of observer-based sensor fault reconstruction for continuous-time systems subject to sensor faults and measurement disturbances via a descriptor system approach. An augmented descriptor plant is first formulated, by assembling measurement disturbances and sensor faults into an auxiliary state vector. Then a novel descriptor state observer for the augmented plant is constructed such that simultaneous reconstruction of original system states, sensor faults and measurement disturbances are obtained readily. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the proposed observer are explicitly provided, and the application scope of the observer is further discussed. In addition, an extension of the proposed linear approach to a class of nonlinear systems with Lipschitz constraints is investigated. Finally, two numerical examples are simulated to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed fault-reconstructing approaches. 展开更多
