It is shown that hexahedral mesh scheme is more suitable for the complex structure of the flotation cell than tetrahedral mesh scheme, and a mesh quality ranging from 0.7 to 1.0 is obtained. Comparative studies of the standard k-ε, k-ω and realizable k-ε turbulence models were carried out. It is indicated that the standard k-ε turbulence model could give a result relatively close to the practice and the liquid phase flow field is well characterized. In addition, two obvious recirculation zones are formed in the mixing zones, and the pressure on the rotor and stator is well characterized. Furthermore, the simulation results using improved standard k-ε turbulence model show that surface tension coefficient of 0.072, drag model of Grace and coefficient of 4, and lift coefficient of 0.001 can be achieved. The research results suggest that gas-fluid two-phase flow in large flotation cell can be well simulated using computational fluid dynamics method.展开更多

It supports left ventricle by building up the pressure to the pump outlet connected to the aorta. This pump was designed based on the magnetic driven centrifugal pump with a unique small washout hole constructed inside the impeller to generate the washout flow passage to prevent the stagnation at the region underneath and around the rotor. Computational fluid dynamics( CFD) was adopted in this study to assess the performance and optimize the design to avoid recirculation and high shear stress which is the main cause of stagnation and blood damage. Transient simulation was used for this study due to the asymmetric design of the washout hole and the complication of the bottom support of the impeller that has a risk of thrombosis, also,it was used to predict the variation of hydraulic performance caused by the rotation of the impeller and pulsed flow at the pump inlet. The simulation results show no excessive stress and no recirculation observed within the computational domain; in addition, the research result also provides information for further optimization and development to the pump.展开更多

However, the influences of splitter plates on the VIV and aerostatic performances are more complicated due to aerodynamic interference between highway and railway decks. To study the effects of splitter plates, wind tunnel experiments for measuring VIV and aerostatic forces of twin decks under two opposite flow directions were conducted, while the surrounding flow and wind pressure of static twin decks with and without splitter plates are numerically simulated. The results showed that the incoming flow direction affects the VIV response and aerostatic coefficients. The highway deck has poor vertical and torsional VIV, and the VIV region and amplitude are different under different directions. While the railway deck only has vertical VIV when located upstream. The splitter plates can impede the process of vortex generation, shedding and impinging at the gap between twin deck, and significantly reducing the surface fluctuating pressure coefficient, thus effectively suppressing the VIV of twin decks. While, the splitter plates hurt the upstream deck regarding static wind stability and have little effect on the downstream deck. The splitter plates of appropriate width are recommended to improve VIV performances in twin parallel bridges.展开更多

One of the main goals of internal ballistics is to estimate the gas pressure into the combustion chamber and the projectile muzzle velocity in order to use the propellant to its higher efficiency while avoiding over-pressure phenomena. Dealing with the internal ballistic problem is a complex undertaking since it requires handling the interaction between different constituents during a transient time lapse with very steep rise of pressure and temperature. Several approaches have been proposed in the literature, based on different assumptions and techniques. Generally, depending on the used mathematical framework, they can be classified into two categories: computational fluid dynamics-based models and lumped-parameter ones. By focusing on gun systems, this paper offers a review of the main contributions in the field by mentioning their advantages and drawbacks. An insight into the limitations of the currently available modelling strategies is provided,as well as some considerations on the choice of one model over another. Lumped-parameter models, for example, are a good candidate for performing parametric analysis and optimisation processes of gun systems, given their minimum requirements of computer resources. Conversely, CFD-based models have a better capacity to address more sophisticated phenomena like pressure waves and turbulent flow effects. The performed review also reveals that too little attention has been given to small calibre guns since the majority of currently available models are conceived for medium and large calibre gun systems.Similarly, aspects like wear phenomena, bore deformations or projectile-barrel interactions still need to be adequately addressed and our suggestion is to dedicate more effort on it.展开更多

Coupled with population balance model (PBM), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to study the characteristics, namely particle size distribution (PSD) and underflow concentration in DCT. Based on actual production, the effects of rake rotational speed, feed rate and tailings slurry concentration were simulated and analyzed in a certain range. The PSD varied with rake rational speed, feed rate and tailings slurry concentration almost in the same trend, but the influence of feed rate was less than that of rake rational speed and tailings slurry concentration. The underflow concentration increased at first and then declined with rake rational speed and feed rate, but it rose and fell with the tailings slurry concentration. Finally, the optimal key parameters on the flocculation settling and thickening of the whole-tailings in DCT were obtained: rake rotational speed of 17 r/min, feed rate of 3.25 m^3/h and tailings slurry concentration of 20%, giving the reference values to the industrial production in Baishitamu Copper Mine.展开更多

This work aims to analyze the energy conservation of the heat recovery ventilator and to investigate the effect of the air supply arrangement. Three types of mixing ventilation are chosen for the analysis of coupling ANSYS/FLUENT (a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program) with TRNSYS (a building energy simulation (BES) software). The adoption of mutual complementary boundary conditions for CFD and BES provides more accurate and complete information of indoor air distribution and thermal performance in buildings. A typical office-space situated in a middle storey is chosen for the analysis. The office-space is equipped with air-conditioners on the ceiling. A heat recovery ventilation system directly supplies flesh air to the office space. Its thermal performance and indoor air distribution predicted by the coupled method are compared under three types of ventilation system. When the supply and return openings for ventilation are arranged on the ceiling, there is no critical difference between the predictions of the coupled method and BES on the energy consumption of HVAC because PID control is adopted for the supply air temperature of the occupied zone. On the other hand, approximately 21% discrepancy for the heat recovery estimation in the maximum between the simulated results of coupled method and BES-only can be obviously found in the floor air supply ventilation case. The discrepancy emphasizes the necessity of coupling CFD with BES when vertical air temperature gradient exists. Our future target is to estimate the optimum design of heat recovery ventilation system to control CO2 concentration by adjusting flow rate of flesh air.展开更多

In the numerical method, the time-averaged Reynolds Navier-Stokes equations and the standard k-e model were first used to simulate the three-dimensional flow field around a bridge pier fixed on river bed. The transient shear stress on river bed was treated as a crucial hydrodynamic mechanism when handling sediment incipience and transport. Then, river-bed volumetric sediment transport was calculated, followed by the modification of the river bed altitude and configuration. Boundary adaptive mesh technique was employed to modify the grid system with changed river-bed boundary. The evolution of local scour around a cylindrical bridge pier was presented. The numerical results represent the flow pattern and mechanism during the pier scouring, with a good prediction of the maximum scour hole depth compared with test results.展开更多

In order to study the interactional principle between the hull and the wheel propellers while the AUV navigating in water, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method is used to simulate numerically the unsteady viscous flow around AUV with propellers by using the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations, shear-stress transport (SST) k-w model and pressure with splitting of operators (PISO) algorithm based on sliding mesh. The hydrodynamic parameters of AUV with propellers such as resistance, pressure and velocity are got, which reflect well the real ambient flow field of AUV with propellers. Then, the semi-implicit method for pressure-linked equations (SIMPLE) algorithm is used to compute the steady viscous flow field of AUV hull and propellers, respectively. The computational results agree well with the experimental data, which shows that the numerical method has good accuracy in the prediction of hydrodynamic performance. The interaction between AUV hull and wheel propellers is predicted qualitatively and quantitatively by comparing the hydrodynamic parameters such as resistance, pressure and velocity with those from integral computation and partial computation of the viscous flow around AUV with propellers, which provides an effective reference to the shady on noise and vibration of AUV hull and propellers in real environment. It also provides technical support for the design of new AUVs.展开更多

文摘Deep cone thickener (DCT) is the key equipment in cemented paste backfill (CPB), so it is essential to study the flocculation settling and thickening characteristics of the whole-tailings in DCT. Finally, the optimal key parameters on the flocculation settling and thickening of the whole-tailings in DCT were obtained: rake rotational speed of 17 r/min, feed rate of 3.25 m^3/h and tailings slurry concentration of 20%, giving the reference values to the industrial production in Baishitamu Copper Mine.

文摘The plasma status of vacuum arc before arc current zero, has a great influence on the interruption performance of the vacuum circuit breakers. In this paper,a vacuum arc model in a short gap was established based on the magnet hydrodynamic(MHD) and a common computational fluid dynamics(CFD) software was utilized to specially investigate the properties of this arc.The spatial distributions of plasma pressure, plasma density, ion axial velocity, and axial current density in front of the anode surface of vacuum arc in this case were obtained.Simulation results indicate that:from the cathode to the anode, both of the plasma pressure and the plasma density increase gradually, and the plasma axial velocity decreases gradually;the axial current density in front of anode has a large radial gradient, and the maximum value is still smaller than the threshold current density for the anode-spot formation, thus, the anode is still passive. The comparison between the plasma density of simulation and the CMOS images taken by the high-speed camera indicates that they are in reasonable agreement with each other and demonstrates the feasibility of the vacuum arc model.

文摘Based on Bingham rheological model,a three-dimensional numerical simulation model for long-distance pipeline transportation is established by computational fluid dynamics(CFD)to study the pipeline transportationproperties of high sliming paste from a copper mine in China.Based on the rheological properties test, the pressure and velocity of pipeline and elbow are simulated by CFD under different mass concentrations and different stowing capacities. The results show that the pipeline resistance of whole-tailings paste with high sliming while without pumping agent is much higher than that with high sliming and pumping agent at the same mass concentration, and the pipeline resistance of whole-tailings paste with high sliming while without pumping agent is much higher than that with low sliming while without pumping agent. It is very important to add pumping agent to whole-tailings paste with high sliming, and the resistance changes with mass concentration and stowing capacity at the same cement-to-sand ratio of1:5and tailings-to-waste ratio of6:1.However,the change is just limited, that is to say,the paste transportation system is of good stability.Furthermore,at the elbow, the maximum pressure and velocity transfer to the outside of the pipe from the inside. However, lubricating layer is formed at the pipe wall because of high content of fine particles in whole-tailings paste, which will protect the elbow from abrasion.CFD provides an intuitive and accurate basis for pipeline transportation study, and would have a wider application space in the study of paste rheological properties and resistance reduction methods.

文摘Based on the parametric analysis of the expanding zone of the vacuum dust suction mouth, the flow in the vacuum dust suction mouth was simulated by computational fluid dynamics(CFD)software,Fluent. The effects of the expanding zone parameters on flow simulation were analyzed. The results show that simulation effects depend on threshold values of the expanding zone parameters of the dust suction mouth, and the threshold values of the expanding zone can be obtained according to the different structures of the vacuum dust suction mouth and be selected as the geometric parameters in calculating, and also corners of the expanding zone make unobvious difference in calculation accuracy and in computational efficiency compared with no corner. The simulation results provide practical guidance to the flow simulation on the dust suction mouth.

文摘Thermal comfort and indoor air quality as well as the energy efficiency have been recognized as essential parts of sustainable building assessment. Our future target is to estimate the optimum design of heat recovery ventilation system to control CO2 concentration by adjusting flow rate of flesh air.

文摘In order to predict the local scour hole and its evaluation around a cylindrical bridge pier, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and theories of sediment movement and transport were employed to carry out numerical simulations. The numerical results represent the flow pattern and mechanism during the pier scouring, with a good prediction of the maximum scour hole depth compared with test results.

文摘The flexible transmission shaft and wheel propeller are combined as the kinetic source equipment, which realizes the nmlti-motion modes of the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) such as vectored thruster and wheeled movement. It also provides technical support for the design of new AUVs.

文摘For acquiring the details in aluminum holding furnace with bottom porous brick purging system, efforts were performed to try to find out the potential optimal operation schemes.By adopting transient analysis scheme and constant boundary temperature, combustion in the furnace was investigated numerically using computational fluid dynamics(CFD).The predicted gas temperature shows good agreement with the measured results, and the predicted energy distribution of the furnace is consistent with that obtained from energy balance experiment, which confirms the reliability of the numerical solution. The results show that as the fuel-air mixture temperature rises up from 300 K to 500 K,the energy utilization of the furnace could increase from 34.55% to 37.14%.However,as the excess air coefficient increases from 1.0 to 1.4,energy utilization drops from 34.55% to 29.56%.Increasing the combustion temperature is the most effective way to improve the energy efficiency of the furnace.High reactant temperature and medium excess air coefficient are recommended for high operation performance, and keeping the furnace jamb sealed well for avoiding leakage has to be emphasized.
