Plasmon induced transparency(PIT)in the transparent window provides new insights into the design of optical filters,switches and storage,and integrated optics.The slow light effect makes PIT applicable to both sensors and slow light devices.Besides,PIT can overcome the diffraction limit of light,which makes it possible to manipulate light on a half-wavelength scale and brings good news to the miniaturization of optical devices.In this paper,we first summarize the researches of PIT phenomenon based on metal-dielectric-metal(MDM)waveguide systems and analyze the physical mechanisms of PIT including bright-dark mode interactions and phase-coupling-induced transparency.Then,we review the applications of PIT in optical sensing,optical filtering,optical switching,slow light devices and optical logic devices.At last,we outline important challenges that need to be addressed,provide corresponding solutions and predict important directions for future research in this area. 展开更多

The numerical results of resonant length of the feeding slot, VSWR and coupling parameter are showed and compared with the case of no radiating slots and short-end. In the process of power scaling large-area Quantum Cascade Lasers(QCLs),challenges such as degradation of beam quality and emission of multilobed far-field modes are frequently encountered.These issues become particularly pronounced with an increase in ridge width,resulting in multimode problems.To tackle this,an innovative multi ridge waveguide structure based on the principle of supersymmetry(SUSY)was proposed.This structure comprises a wider main waveguide in the center and two narrower auxiliary waveguides on either side.The high-order modes of the main waveguide are coupled with the modes of the auxiliary waveguides through mode-matching design,and the optical loss of the auxiliary waveguides suppresses these modes,thereby achieving fundamental mode lasing of the wider main waveguide.This paper employs the finite difference eigenmode(FDE)method to perform detailed structural modeling and simulation optimization of the 4.6μm wavelength quantum cascade laser,successfully achieving a single transverse mode QCL with a ridge width of 10μm.In comparison to the traditional single-mode QCL(with a ridge width of about 5μm),the MRW structure has the potential to increase the gain area of the laser by 100%.This offers a novel design concept and methodology for enhancing the single-mode luminous power of mid-infrared quantum cascade lasers,which is of considerable significance. 展开更多

This study involved a comprehensive investigation aimed at achieving efficient multi-millijoule THz wave generation by exploiting the unique properties of cylindrical GaAs waveguides as effective mediators of the conversion of laser energy into THz waves.Through meticulous investigation,valuable insights into optimizing THz generation processes for practical applications were unearthed.By investigating Hertz potentials,an eigen-value equation for the solutions of the guided modes(i.e.,eigenvalues)was found.The effects of various param-eters,including the effective mode index and the laser pulse power,on the electric field components of THz radia-tion,including the fundamental TE(transverse electric)and TM(transverse magnetic)modes,were evaluated.By analyzing these factors,this research elucidated the nuanced mechanisms governing THz wave generation within cylindrical GaAs waveguides,paving the way for refined methodologies and enhanced efficiency.The sig-nificance of cylindrical GaAs waveguides extends beyond their roles as mere facilitators of THz generation;their design and fabrication hold the key to unlocking the potential for compact and portable THz systems.This trans-formative capability not only amplifies the efficiency of THz generation but also broadens the horizons of practical applications. 展开更多

[Background]Traveling-wave tubes(TWTs)are widely applied in radar,imaging,and military systems owing to their excellent amplification characteristics.Miniaturization and integration are critical to the future of TWTs,with multi-channel slow-wave structures(SWSs)forming the foundation for their realization in high-power vacuum electronic devices.[Purpose]To provide design insights for multi-channel TWTs and simultaneously enhance their output power,a W-band folded-waveguide TWT with dual electron beams and H-plane power combining was proposed.[Methods]Three-dimensional electromagnetic simulations in CST were conducted to verify the highfrequency characteristics,electric field distribution,and amplification performance of the proposed SWS,thereby confirming the validity of the design.[Results]Results indicate that the designed TWT achieves a transmission bandwidth of 10 GHz.With an electron beam voltage of 17.9 kV and a current of 0.35 A,the output power reaches 450 W at 94 GHz,corresponding to an efficiency of 7.18%and a gain of 23.5 dB.Moreover,under fixed beam voltage and current,the TWT delivers over 200 W output power across 91–99 GHz,with a 3 dB bandwidth of 91–98.5 GHz.The particle voltage distribution after modulation further validates the mode analysis.[Conclusions]These results demonstrate the feasibility of compact dual-beam power-combining structures and provide useful guidance for the design of future multi-channel TWTs. 展开更多

A 16-channel arrayed waveguide grating(AWG)with an 800 GHz channel spacing in the O-band has been developed and fabricated based on silica planar lightwave circuit(PLC)technology.By extending the wave⁃length allocation from 8 channels to 16 channels as specified in IEEE 802.3bs,we increased the number of chan⁃nels and boosted transmission capacity to meet the 1.6 Tbps and higher-speed signal transmission requirements for future data centers.Through optimizing the AWG structure,it has achieved insertion loss(IL)better than-1.61 dB,loss uniformity below 0.35 dB,polarization-dependent loss(PDL)below 0.35 dB,adjacent channel cross⁃talk under-20.05 dB,ripple less than 0.75 dB,center wavelength offset under 0.22 nm and 1 dB bandwidth ex⁃ceeding 2.88 nm.The AWG has been successfully measured to transmit 53 Gbaud 4-level pulse amplitude modu⁃lation(PAM4)signal per channel and the total transmission speed can reach over 1.6 Tbps. 展开更多

Red-green-blue(RGB)beam combiners are widely used in scenarios such as augmented reality/virtual reality(AR/VR),laser projection,biochemical detection,and other fields.Optical waveguide combiners have attracted extensive attention due to their advantages of small size,high multiplexing efficiency,convenient mass production,and low cost.An RGB beam combiner based on directional couplers is designed,with a core-cladding relative refractive index difference of 0.75%.The RGB beam combiner is optimized from the perspective of parameter optimization.Using the beam propagation method(BPM),the relationship between the performance of the RGB beam combiner and individual parameters is studied,achieving preliminary optimization of the device’s performance.The key parameters of the RGB beam combiner are optimized using the entropy weight-technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution TOPSIS method,establishing the optimal parameter scheme and further improving the device’s performance indicators.The results show that after optimization,the multiplexing efficiencies for red,green,and blue lights,as well as the average multiplexing efficiency,reached 99.17%,99.76%,96.63%and 98.52%,respectively.The size of the RGB beam combiner is 4.768 mm×0.062 mm. 展开更多

Millimeter-wave broadband dual-circularly polarized antenna based on gap waveguide technology

A millimeter-wave (mmW) broadband dual circularly polarized (dual-CP) antenna with high port isolation is proposed in this paper. The dual-CP performance is realized based on the symmetrical septum circular polarizer based on the gap waveguide (GWG) technology. Two sets of symmetrical septum circular polarizers are used for common aperture combination,achieving the broadband dual-CP characteristics. Taking advantage of GWG structure without good electrical contact, the antenna can also be fabricated and assembled easily in the mmW band. The principle analysis of the antenna is given, and the antenna is simulated and fabricated. The measured results show that the bandwidth for S11lower than-10.7 dB and the axial ratio (AR) lower than 2.90 dB in 75-110 GHz, with realative bandwidth of 38%. Over the frequency band, the gain is higher than 9.16 dBic, and the dual-CP port isolation is greater than32 dB. The proposed antenna with dual-CP and highly isolated in a wide bandwidth range has broad application prospects in the field of mmW communication. 展开更多

In the realm of near-infrared spectroscopy,the detection of molecules has been achieved using on-chip waveguides and resonators.In the mid-infrared band,the integration and sensitivity of chemical sensing chips are often constrained by the reliance on off-chip light sources and detectors.In this study,we demonstrate an InAs/GaAsSb superlattice mid-infrared waveguide integrated detector.The GaAsSb waveguide layer and the InAs/GaAsSb superlattice absorbing layer are connected through evanescent coupling,facilitating efficient and highquality detection of mid-infrared light with minimal loss.We conducted a simulation to analyze the photoelectric characteristics of the device.Additionally,we investigated the factors that affect the integration of the InAs/GaAs⁃Sb superlattice photodetector and the GaAsSb waveguide.Optimal thicknesses and lengths for the absorption lay⁃er are determined.When the absorption layer has a thickness of 0.3μm and a length of 50μm,the noise equiva⁃lent power reaches its minimum value,and the quantum efficiency can achieve a value of 68.9%.The utilization of waveguide detectors constructed with Ⅲ-Ⅴ materials offers a more convenient means of integrating mid-infra⁃red light sources and achieving photoelectric detection chips. 展开更多

Passive ranging technique using waveguide invariant in shallow water with thermocline

In shallow water with uniform sound speed profile, the value of waveguide invariant is approximately a constant, while in shallow water with thermocline, it varies in a wide range. The waveguide invariant distributions and striations in these two conditions are analyzed respectively. On the basis of wavenumber difference between reflected modes and refracted modes, a wavenumber-frequency domain filtering technique is proposed to separate the two groups of modes. The required relationship between array element space, total array length and target azimuth for effective application is discussed. Finally, the simulation results indicate that in shallow water with a thermocline, refracted modes can be effectively filtered out using the wavenumber-frequency domain filtering technique and the target's range is estimated accurately. © 2017 Beijing Institute of Aerospace Information. 展开更多

Analysis of wave propagation on human body based on stratified media model 被引量:2

Human body communication(HBC) is a promising near-field communication(NFC) method emerging in recent years. But existing theoretical models of HBC are too simple to simulate the wave propagation on human body. In this work, in order to clarify the propagation mechanism of electromagnetic wave on human body, a surface waveguide HBC theoretical model based on stratified media cylinder is presented. A numerical model analyzed by finite element method(FEM) is used for comparing and validating the theoretical model. Finally, results of theoretical and numerical models from 80 MHz to 200 MHz agree fairly well, which means that theoretical model can characterize accurate propagation mechanism of HBC signal. Meanwhile, attenuation constants derived from two kinds of models are within the range from 1.64 to 3.37, so that HBC signal can propagate effectively on human body. The propagation mechanism derived from the theoretical model is useful to provide design information for the transmitter and the modeling of the propagation channel in HBC. 展开更多

A surface plasmon resonance(SPR)sensor with Ag/PbS/GR hybrid nanostructure has been proposed for the diagnostics of liquid phase samples.Here Ag/PbS/GR hybrid nanostructure is designed as an asymmetric MIM waveguide for surface plasmon.Due to the guided wave SPR(GWSPR)modes,the index of the liquid phase samples can be measured more accurately than the conventional SPR sensors.Numerical simulation results show that the sensitivity of the sensor is about 5 times higher than the conventional SPR sensors.The origin of the enhancement mechanism is the combination of GWSPR in the Ag/PbS/GR hybrid nanostructure which enables the surface plasmon to spread along the PbS layer.In Ag/PbS/GR hybrid nanostructure,the electric field is concentrated mostly in the PbS layer,and the enhancement of the field intensity is nearly30%. 展开更多

Based on Fabry model and finite-different time-domain(FDTD) method, the plasmonic structure composed of a metal-insulator-metal(MIM) bus waveguide and a side-coupled resonator was investigated. It is found that the transmission features can be regulated by the cavity width and coupling distance. Electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT)-like transmission can be excited by adding an identical resonator on the pre-existing structure. Combining the foregoing theoretical analysis with coupled mode theory(CMT), the formation process of the EIT-like transmission was detailedly analyzed. EIT-like transmission can also be excited in plasmonic structure with two detuned resonators. By altering the structure parameters, the transparency window can be purposefully modulated. With the merits of compact structure and simplicity in fabrication, the proposed structures may have a broad prospect of applications in highly integrated optical circuits. 展开更多

The cutoff wavenumbers of elliptical waveguides were calculated by using isogeomtric analysis method (IGA). With NURBS basis functions in IGA, the computational model was consistent with geometric model imported from CAD system. The field variable (longitudinal electric/magnetic field) was constructed by the same NURBS basis functions as the representation of geometric model. In the refinement procedure used to get a more accurate solution, communication with original CAD system is unnecessary and the geometric shape is kept unchanged. The Helrnholtz equation is weakened to a set of general eigenvalue equation by virtual work principal with diseretized degree-of-freedom on control points. Elliptical waveguides with three typical eccentricities, 0.1, 0.5 and 0.9, are calculated by IGA with different size mesh. The first four cutoff wavenumbers are obtained even in coarse mesh and the RMS of first 25 cutoff wavenumbers has much more swift convergence rate with decreasing the mesh size than traditional FEM. The accuracy and robustness of the proposed method are validated by elliptical waveguides, and also the method can be applied to waveguides with arbitrary cross sections. 展开更多

The alignment coupling between optical waveguide chips and optical fiber arrays is the basis of the alignment coupling of planar optical waveguide devices, and the precise position detection with angle and spacing adjustments is one of the key steps of alignment coupling. A methodology for position detection, and angle and spacing adjustment was proposed for optical waveguide chips and optical fiber arrays based on machine vision. The experimental results show angle detection precision levels higher than 0.05°, line detection precision levels higher than 0.1 μm, and detection time less than 2 s. Therefore, the system developed herein meets the precise requirements necessary for position detection, and angle and spacing adjustments for optical waveguide chips and optical fiber arrays. 展开更多

The key steps involved in the scheme are summarized. First, the cut-off frequencies of slot waveguides with different slot offsets are obtained by 3D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, Second, the attenuation function a^a is estimated by the aperture distribution, and the attenuation function αrs is determined by the slot radiation. Finally, the attenuation function αrs is combined with the attenuation function αrs by the coefficient K. And an example in Ka band is presented. Moreover, the return loss of the E-plane Tee-junction (ET) and the radiation pattern of leaky-wave antenna are simulated. The scheme is verified by comparing with the experimental result. 展开更多
