A catadioptric lens structure,also known as pancake lens,has been widely used in virtual reality(VR)displays to reduce the formfactor.However,the utilization of a half mirror(HM)to fold the optical path thrice leads t...A catadioptric lens structure,also known as pancake lens,has been widely used in virtual reality(VR)displays to reduce the formfactor.However,the utilization of a half mirror(HM)to fold the optical path thrice leads to a significant optical loss.The theoretical maximum optical efficiency is merely 25%.To transcend this optical efficiency constraint while retaining the foldable characteristic inherent to traditional pancake optics,in this paper,we propose a theoretically lossless folded optical system to replace the HM with a nonreciprocal polarization rotator.In our feasibility demonstration experiment,we used a commercial Faraday rotator(FR)and reflective polarizers to replace the lossy HM.The theoretically predicted 100%efficiency can be achieved approximately by using two high-extinction-ratio reflective polarizers.In addition,we evaluated the ghost images using a micro-OLED panel in our imaging system.Indeed,the ghost images can be suppressed to undetectable level if the optics are with antireflection coating.Our novel pancake optical system holds great potential for revolutionizing next-generation VR displays with lightweight,compact formfactor,and low power consumption.展开更多

Four stages of bystander intervention (BI) have been previously described: noticing the situation as a problem, interpreting when it is appropriate to intervene, recognizing personal responsibility to intervene, and knowing how to intervene. Using virtual reality (VR) to simulate emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can be used to study these stages. METHODS: In a secondary analysis of an observational cohort study, we analyzed bystander self-effi cacy for stages of BI before and after simulated SCA. Each subject participated in a singleplayer, immersive, VR SCA scenario. Subjects interacted with simulated bystanders through voice commands (“call 911”,“get an AED”). Actions taken in scenario, like performing CPR, were documented. Scenario BI actions were compared based on dichotomized comfort/discomfort. RESULTS: From June 2016 to June 2017, 119 subjects participated. Average age was 37±14 years, 44% were female and 46% reported CPR training within 2 years. During the scenario, 98%“noticed the event” and “interpreted it as a problem”, 78%“took responsibility”, and 54%“possessed the necessary skills”. Self-effi cacy increased from pre- to post-scenario: noticing the event increased from 80% to 96%;interpreting as a problem increased from 86% to 97%;taking responsibility increased from 56% to 93%;possessing necessary skills increased from 47% to 63%(P<0.001). CONCLUSION: Self-efficacy to respond to an SCA event increased pre- to post-scenario. Bystanders who reported feeling comfortable “taking responsibility to intervene” during an emergency were more likely to take action during a simulated emergency.展开更多

The position...Construction of a lighting model of the real world is one of the critical aims in an augmented reality (AR) system. The theory of lighting modeling used in computer graphics(CG) is applied in this study. The position of the real light-source is first conjectured from light and shade of the registration image element by element using a ray tracking algorithm. Then the virtual light-source and virtual fiducial are constructed in the CG environment, in which, the Phong model is used to draw the light effect. By comparing the CG scene with the real image, one can modify the parameters of the lighting model over and over again, until the lighting effect of the CG scene is close enough to that of the real image. It is proved that this method works well in the indoor AR system. The method can be used feasibly in most applications with some improvements.展开更多

Virtual reality(VR)simulations are some of the alternative practice environments for safety education.Trainees gain experience under the most realistic conditions without being exposed to any real hazard.Virtual reali...Virtual reality(VR)simulations are some of the alternative practice environments for safety education.Trainees gain experience under the most realistic conditions without being exposed to any real hazard.Virtual reality also serves as a tool to expedite the decision-making process where quick decisions and actions are necessities for a safe operation.One example of such a situation in underground mines is the failure risks in a tunnel face after blasting.Ground support systems must be installed based on the stand-up time to ensure the safe access of personnel and equipment to the working area.Generally,a competent person inspects the area to identify risks and determines the required support systems.However,training of a competent person requires large amount of time and effort.This study presents virtual reality simulations developed for improving the assessment of the roof fall hazards and taking necessary measures for mitigating the risk related to roof fall.The virtual reality simulation involves decision-making tasks for a particular scenario in which participants can experience creating a safe working environment in a timely manner.First,they are asked to identify the potential hazard in a tunnel after blasting,namely,rock fall,wedge failure or groundwater inflow.If the hazard identification is successful,participants are requested to install rock bolts as a safety measure by selecting the bolt pattern(e.g.bolt length and spacing).Finally,participants evaluate the roof fall hazard by viewing displacements around the opening,before and after the support measures.This study illustrates the benefits of VR in safety training as well as enhancing the decision-making process to enhance safety.展开更多

文摘In recent years,more and more students relay on universal composition templates.Students believe that the"universal composition template"can cope with all kinds of English tests.How the pros and cons of writing methods seem to put things right once and for all?How’s enlightening significance to English teaching?In this paper,based on the two language acquisition theory and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the composition template,some suggestion are given to the students to improve their English writing level.

Great change of society, as well as traditional values, gives an impact on the escapists. They feel mixed-up and perplexed about their lives and future. The conflicts among pursuit and disillusionment, past and present, tradition and modernity, material and spirit, ideal and reality make the escapists choose to build a wall to separate them from the real world. They become the souls drifting in the reality, without knowing their status in society or the meaning of life.

文摘Virtual reality(VR)simulations are some of the alternative practice environments for safety education.Trainees gain experience under the most realistic conditions without being exposed to any real hazard.Virtual reality also serves as a tool to expedite the decision-making process where quick decisions and actions are necessities for a safe operation.One example of such a situation in underground mines is the failure risks in a tunnel face after blasting.Ground support systems must be installed based on the stand-up time to ensure the safe access of personnel and equipment to the working area.Generally,a competent person inspects the area to identify risks and determines the required support systems.However,training of a competent person requires large amount of time and effort.This study presents virtual reality simulations developed for improving the assessment of the roof fall hazards and taking necessary measures for mitigating the risk related to roof fall.The virtual reality simulation involves decision-making tasks for a particular scenario in which participants can experience creating a safe working environment in a timely manner.First,they are asked to identify the potential hazard in a tunnel after blasting,namely,rock fall,wedge failure or groundwater inflow.If the hazard identification is successful,participants are requested to install rock bolts as a safety measure by selecting the bolt pattern(e.g.bolt length and spacing).Finally,participants evaluate the roof fall hazard by viewing displacements around the opening,before and after the support measures.This study illustrates the benefits of VR in safety training as well as enhancing the decision-making process to enhance safety.
