Triaxial compression tests on the specimens in various ages and mix designs under different confining pressures have been done and the stress-strain behavior of such materials and their strength parameter changes have been experimentally investigated. It has been observed that increasing the confining pressures applied on the specimens causes the material behavior to be alike the more ductile materials and the compressive strength increases considerably as well. Moreover, a parametric study has been carded out to investigate the influence of essential parameters on the shear strength parameters of these materials. According to the research, increasing the coarse to fine aggregates ratio leads to the increase of compressive strength of the specimens as well as the increase of the cohesion and internal friction angle of the materials. Furthermore, the bentonite content decrease and the cement factor increase result in an increase of the cohesion parameter of plastic concretes and decrease of the internal friction angle of such materials.展开更多

The tests were conducted in a recently developed true triaxial apparatus with constant minor principal stress σ3 and constant value of intermediate principal stress ratio b=(σ2-σ3)/(σ1-σ3) (al is the vertical stress, and % is the horizontal stress). It is found that the intermediate principal strain, ε2, increases from negative to positive value with the increase of parameter b from zero to unity under a constant minor principal stress. The minor principal strain, ε3, is always negative. This implies that the specimen exhibits an evident anisotropy. The relationship between b and friction angle obtained from the tests is different from that predicted by LADE-DUNCAN and MATSUOKA-NAKAI criteria. Based on the test results, an empirical equation of g(b) that is the shape function of the failure surface on re-plane was presented. The proposed equation is verified to be reasonable by comparing the predicted results using the equation with true triaxial test results of soils, such as coarse-grained soils in this study, sands and gravels in other studies.展开更多

Based on experimental results, rock rheological properties influenced by seepage-stress coupling were studied, and variations of seepage rate with time in complete creep processes of rock were analyzed. It is shown that, when the applied stress is less than failure stress level, the creep deformation is not obvious, and its main form is steady-state creep. When applied stress level is greater than or less than but close to fracture stress, it is easier to see the increase of creep deformation and the more obvious accelerative creep characteristics. The circumferential creep deformation is obviously higher than the axial creep deformation. At the stage of steady-state creep, the average of seepage flow rate is about 4.7×10-9 rn/s at confining pressure (tr3) of 2 MPa, and is about 3.9×10-9 m/s at a3 of 6 MPa. It is seen that the seepage flow rate at or3 of 2 MPa in this case is obviously larger than that at tr3 of 6 MPa. At the stage of creep acceleration, the seepage flow rate is markedly increased with the increase of time. The variation of rock permeability is directly connected to the growth and evolution of creep crack. It is suggested that the permeability coefficient in complete creep processes of rock is not a constant, but is a function of rock creep strain, confining pressure, damage variable and pore water pressure. The results can be considered to provide a reliable reference for the establishment of rock rheological model and parameter identification.展开更多

However, during construction, the excess pore-air pressure generally dissipates instantaneously while the excess pore-water pressure dissipates with time. This condition needs to be simulated in a constant water content (CW) triaxial test. The study on Yunnan red clay is carried out to investigate the soil-water characteristics and the shear strength characteristics under the constant water content condition. Osmotic technique is used to obtain the soil-water characteristic curve. A series of CW triaxial tests are conducted on statically compacted specimens. The experimental results show that the soil-water characteristic curve has a low air entry value of 7 kPa due to large pores in non-uniform pore size distribution, and a high residual value exceeding 10 MPa. In addition, the initial degree of saturation and net confining stress play an important role in affecting the shear characteristics under the constant water content condition. Finally, a new semi-empirical shear strength model in terms of degree of saturation is proposed and then applied to Yuunan red clay. Simulation result shows that the model is capable of capturing some key features of soils. The model can be used in whole engineering practice range, covering both unsaturmed and saturated soils.展开更多

The experimental results indicate that the triaxial compression strength for frozen clay in KoDCGF test increases with the increase of confining pressure, but it decreases as the confining pressure increases further in GFC test. In other words, the compression strength for frozen clay with identical confining pressure decreases with the increase in thermal gradient both in KoDCGF test and GFC test. The strength of frozen clay in KoDCGF test is dependent of pore ice strength, soil particle strength and interaction between soil skeleton and pore ice. The decrease of water content and distance between soil particles leads to the decrease of pore size and the increase of contact area between particles in KoDCGF test, which further results in a higher compression strength than that in GFC test. The compression strength for frozen clay with thermal gradient can be descried by strength for frozen clay with a uniform temperature identical to the temperature at the height of specimen where the maximum tensile stress appears.展开更多

Furthermore, the bentonite content decrease and the cement factor increase result in an increase of the cohesion parameter of plastic concretes and decrease of the internal friction angle of such materials.

文摘It is of great significance for safety reason to obtain the triaxial compressive properties of cemented tailings backfill(CTB).The influence of cement content, curing age and confining pressure on strength and deformation properties of CTB was examined and discussed. Results indicate that the triaxial compressive and deformation behavior of CTB is strongly affected by the cement content, curing age and confining pressure. The increase in cement content, curing age and confining pressure leads to a change in stress−strain behavior and an increase in the axial strain at failure and post-peak strength loss. The cohesion of CTB rises as the curing age and cement content increase. However, the enhancement in internal friction angle is trivial and negligible. It should be noted that the failure pattern of CTB samples in triaxial compression is mainly along a shear plane, the confining pressure restrains the lateral expansion and the bulging failure pattern is dominantly detected in CTB samples as curing age length and cement content increase. The results will help to better understand the triaxial mechanical and deformation behavior of CTB.

文摘In order to investigate the influence of intermediate principal stress on the stress-strain and strength behaviour of a coarse-grained soil, a series of true triaxial tests were performed. The proposed equation is verified to be reasonable by comparing the predicted results using the equation with true triaxial test results of soils, such as coarse-grained soils in this study, sands and gravels in other studies.

文摘The failure criterion of rocks is a critical factor involved in reliability design and stability analysis of geotechnical engineering. In order to accurately evaluate the triaxial compressive strength of rocks under different confining pressures,a nonlinear empirical strength criterion based on Mohr-Coulomb criterion was proposed in this paper.Through the analysis of triaxial test strength of 11 types of rock materials, the feasibility and validity of proposed criterion was discussed. For a further verification, six typical strength criteria were selected, and the prediction results of each criterion and test results were statistically analyzed. The comparative comparison results show that the prediction results obtained by applying this new criterion to 97 conventional triaxial compression tests of 11 different rock materials are highly consistent with the experimental data.Statistical analysis was executed to assess the application of the new criterion and other classical criteria in predicting the failure behavior of rock. This proposed empirical criterion provides a new reference and method for the determination of triaxial compressive strength of rock materials.

文摘Triaxial creep tests were carried out under seepage pressure by using rock servo-controlled triaxial rheology testing equipment. The results can be considered to provide a reliable reference for the establishment of rock rheological model and parameter identification.

文摘Hydraulic fracturing,as a key technology of deep energy exploitation, accelerates the rapid development of the modern petroleum industry. To study the mechanisms of hydraulic fracture propagation and rock failure mode of the vertical well hydraulic fracturing, the true triaxial hydraulic fracturing test and numerical simulation are carried out,and the influence of the principal stress difference, water injection displacement, perforation angle and natural fracture on fracture propagation is analyzed. The results show that the fracture propagation mode of limestone is mainly divided into two types:the single vertical fracture and the transverse-longitudinal crossed complex fracture.Under high displacement, the fracturing pressure is larger, and the secondary fracture is more likely to occur, while variable displacement loading is more likely to induce fracture network.Meanwhile, the amplitude of acoustic emission(AE)waveform of limestone during fracturing is between 0.01 and 0.02 mV,and the main frequency is maintained in the range of 230−300 kHz.When perforation angleθ=45°,it is easy to produce the T-type fracture that connects with the natural fracture, while X-type cracks are generated whenθ=30°.The results can be used as a reference for further study on the mechanism of limestone hydraulic fracturing.

文摘In order to study the rheological properties of red stone granular soil,a series of rheological experiments were executed on large tri-axial rheological apparatus.Under 100,200 and 300 kPa confining stress conditions, the rheological tests were carried out. These experiment results showed that the stress conditions, especially the stress level were the critical influencing factors of the rheological deformation properties.Under the low stress level(S=0.1),the granular soil showed the elastic properties, and there was no obvious rheological deformation.Under the middle stress level(0.2<S≤0.6),creep curves showed the linear viscoelastic rheological properties. However, under the high stress level(S>0.8) creep curves showed the non-linear viscous plastic rheological properties.Especially, under the stress level of S=1.0,the accelerated rheological phase of creep curves occurred at early time with a trend of failure. The stress level had obvious effects on the final rheological deformation of the soil sample, and the final rheological deformation increments nonlinearly increased with stress level. The final rheological deformation increment and step was little under low stress level, while it became large under high stress level, which showed the nonlinearly rheological properties of the granular soil. The confining pressure also had direct effects on final rheological deformation, and the final rheological deformation linearly increased with confining pressure increments.

文摘Multi-stage triaxial compression tests for cylindrical red sandstone specimens(diameter of 50 mm,height of 100 mm) were carried out with a rock mechanics testing system and spatial acoustic emission(AE) locations were obtained by adopting an AE monitoring system.Based on spatial AE distribution evolution of red sandstone during multi-stage triaxial deformation, the relation between spatial AE events and triaxial deformation of red sandstone was analyzed. The results show that before peak strength, the spatial AE events are not active and distribute stochastically in the specimen, while after peak strength, the spatial AE events are very active and focus on a local region beyond final microscopic failure plane.During multi-stage triaxial deformation with five different confining pressures, the spatial AE distribution evolution in the red sandstone was obtained. The obtained spatial AE locations of red sandstone at the final confining pressure agree very well with the ultimate failure experimental mode. Finally, the influence of confining pressure on the spatial AE evolution characteristics of red sandstone during triaxial deformation was discussed. The AE behavior of red sandstone during multi-stage triaxial deformation is interpreted in the light of the Kaiser effect, which has a significant meaning for predicting the unstable failure of engineering rock mass.

文摘The shear strength parameters for geotechnical designs are obtained mainly from consolidated drained (CD) or consolidated undrained (CU) triaxial tests. The model can be used in whole engineering practice range, covering both unsaturmed and saturated soils.

文摘A series of triaxial compression tests for frozen clay were performed by KoDCGF (freezing with non-uniform temperature under loading after K0 consolidation) method and GFC (freezing with non-uniform temperature without experiencing Ko consolidation) method at various confining pressures and thermal gradients. The compression strength for frozen clay with thermal gradient can be descried by strength for frozen clay with a uniform temperature identical to the temperature at the height of specimen where the maximum tensile stress appears.

文摘Series of testing on coarse grained soils were carried out with a true triaxial testing apparatus. The loads were applied from the major principal and minor principal directions, respectively,to simulate the construction and water impounding process of a rock fill dam.The stress and strain relationships induced by the different loading methods were investigated.A remarkable stress-induced anisotropy under complex stress state was observed.Contrary to popular assumptions in traditional numerical analysis and constitutive models,it was found that different elastic modulus and Poisson ratio exist in different principal directions in rock fill dams. From the testing results,an anisotropic constitutive model based on Duncan-Chang nonlinear model is presented to overcome the limitations of axi-symmetric assumptions in conventional triaxial experiments and constitutive models. Both models were then applied in FEM analysis of an under-construction earth core high rock soil filled dam with the focus on hydraulic fracturing. The study reveals the major biases that exist when numerical analysis and constitutive models do not give serious consideration to the intermediate principal stress and anisotropy effects in soil rock built structures.

文摘Based on the results of triaxial compressive creep tests for five kinds of rock under the different stress loading, unloading and cycle-loading-unloading conditions, the creep deformation is not only a function of stress and time, but also it has the corresponding relations to the triaxial stress-strain curves of rock. The deformation properties of soften-strain,harden-strain and ideal plasticity presented by conventional triaxial compressive test curves under the different stress states were utilized, and the creep characteristics, the creep starting stress and the different entire creep process curves of rock were studied systematically according to creep experiment results, and the relations of the triaxial stress-strain curves to the creeping starting stress, the terminating curve, the different creep processes, and the different creep fracture properties were established. The relations presented in this paper were verified partially by the creep experiment results of five types of rock.
文摘The RMB-150B rock mechanics test system was employed to obtain the complete stress-strain test curves under confining pressures of 0-30MPa for marble samples from Ya'an ,Sichuan province. On the basis of former study and the convention triaxial pressure test results ,the complete procedures curves which described the relationships between yielding strength、 peak strength、 residual strength and confining pressure was obtained. Taking the strain softening of rock into account, the bilinear elastic-linear softening-residual perfect plasticity four-linear model was put forward in this paper on the basis of the test results and theory of plasticity. This model was adopted to describe the behaviors of marble in different phases under triaxial compression with the constitutive equation of strain softening phase as focus. The results indicated that the theoretic model fitted in well with the test results.

文摘In practical engineering applications, rock mass are often found to be subjected to a triaxial stress state.Concurrently, defects like joints and fractures have a notable impact on the mechanical behavior of rock mass.Such defects are identified as crucial contributors to the failure and instability of the surrounding rock, subsequently impacting the engineering stability. The study aimed to investigate the impact of fracture geometry and confining pressure on the deformation, failure characteristics, and strength of specimens using sand powder 3D printing technology and conventional triaxial compression tests. The results indicate that the number of fractures present considerably influences the peak strength, axial peak strain and elastic modulus of the specimens.Confining pressure is an important factor affecting the failure pattern of the specimen, under which the specimen is more prone to shear failure, but the initiation, expansion and penetration processes of secondary cracks in different fracture specimens are different. This study confirmed the feasibility of using sand powder 3D printing specimens as soft rock analogs for triaxial compression research. The insights from this research are deemed essential for a deeper understanding of the mechanical behavior of fractured surrounding rocks when under triaxial stress state.
