Methods A cohort of 45 patients following cadaveric renal allograft transplantation were randomly divided into 3 groups based on the regimen of combination of tacrolimus, steroid, and MMF: triple therapy group, steroid withdrawal group, and MMF withdrawal group. During 2 years, survival of patients and allografts, clinical acute rejection, adverse events, hepatic and renal allograft function, and blood lipids were monitored to evaluate the safety and feasibility of steroid or MMF withdrawal after renal transplantation. Results During two-year observation, steroid or MMF was successfully withdrawn from immunosuppressant regimen based on tacrolimus without any clinical acute rejection renal allografts kept excellent function. Some adverse events among groups. Patient and graft survival rates were 100% and all the occurred and there were no significant differences Conclusion Withdrawal of steroid or MMF in low-immunological-risk renal allografts treated with tacrolimus-based immunosuppressant regimen can be achieved with no increased risk of acute rejection.展开更多

A decomposition experiment of Populus purdomii litter,a commonly used afforestation species in the Qinling Mountains,China,was conducted.Water extracts of five conifer litters were used to treat P.purdomii litter and ...A decomposition experiment of Populus purdomii litter,a commonly used afforestation species in the Qinling Mountains,China,was conducted.Water extracts of five conifer litters were used to treat P.purdomii litter and its soil.The P.purdomii litter was incubated at room temperature(20–25℃)and constant soil moisture for 6 months.During the decomposition period,the dynamics of litter mass and nutrient contents were detected to investigate the impacts of plant secondary metabolites.The results indicate that litter extracts of Pinus tabuliformis,Platycladus orientalis,Pinus armandii and Larix principisrupprechtii significantly inhibited the overall nutrient release of P.purdomii litter,while the last three types of litter extracts simultaneously inhibited its decomposition.Conversely,the litter extracts of Picea asperata significantly accelerated the overall nutrient release of P.purdomii.Generally,most of the conifer species,whose litter released terpenoids,phenolics,steroids,and aliphatic acids,will inhibit the decomposition and/or nutrient release from P.purdomii litter.Their negative effects on the decomposers and soil enzymatic activities indicates that planting diversity should be lower when mixed planted with P.purdomii.展开更多

In the present study, we determined hormonal changes during pregnancy and the estrous cycle in captive female wolf by measuring fecal steroids collected during the breeding season with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). These biochemical analyses were validated using chemical devivatization and mass spectrometry, and interpreted along with the behavioral data. All four females undergoing estrus cycles were copulated with their partners and delivered pups successfully. We found that estradiol concen-trations were significantly higher during the estrus cycle than other stages (p0.01) and progesterone was also significantly increased throughout the pregnancy (p0.01). These hormonal fluctuations demonstrated pregnancy-specific changes in the fecal progesterone and estradiol con-centrations. Patterns of fecal estradiol and progesterone concentrations during estrous cycles were similar to those reported for other canids.展开更多
Objective To investigate the variation of sex hormone and its receptor level in elderly male patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and to evaluate the correlations between CHD and sex hormone as well as sex hormo...Objective To investigate the variation of sex hormone and its receptor level in elderly male patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and to evaluate the correlations between CHD and sex hormone as well as sex hormone receptor. Methods Altogether 139 male CHD patients (CHD group) aged 60-92 years and 400 healthy men (control group) aged 60-90 years were included in this cross sectional study. The plasma concentrations of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS),total testosterone (TT),free testosterone (FT),estradiol (E2),sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG),luteinizing hormone (LH),and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were measured. The androgen receptor (AR) was tested by flow cytometry. Correlations between CHD and levels of sex hormones and AR were analyzed. Results Compared with the control group,the levels of DHEAS,TT,FT,SHBG,and the fluorescence intensity of AR in the CHD group significantly reduced (P<0.05),while the levels of FSH and E2 significantly increased (P<0.01). Age was negatively correlated with TT (r=-0.28,P=0.00) and FT (r=-0.17,P=0.01),while it was positively correlated with SHBG (r=0.14,P=0.04) and E2 (r=0.33,P=0.00). AR fluorescence intensity was negatively correlated with systolic blood pressure (r=-0.12,P=0.01). Binary logistic regression analysis showed that TT,SHBG,and AR were all negatively correlated with CHD (P<0.05). Conclusions Elderly male patients with CHD are found to have low levels of DHEAS,TT,FT,SHBG,and AR,while high concentrations of E2 and FSH. Low levels of TT and SHBG may be the potential risk factors of CHD in elderly men.展开更多

In this formulation study,biocompatible non steroidal anti-inflammatory(NSAIDs)-loaded nanoparticles were designed as models to be further integrated in a prosthesis surface functionalization.A modified spontaneous em...In this formulation study,biocompatible non steroidal anti-inflammatory(NSAIDs)-loaded nanoparticles were designed as models to be further integrated in a prosthesis surface functionalization.A modified spontaneous emulsion-solvent diffusion methodology was used to produce drug-loaded PLGA nanoparticles without any purification or solvent evaporation requirements.Formulation parameters,such as lactide/glycolide ratio,polymer concentration,solvent/non solvent ratio and non solvent phase,as well as the non ionic tensioactive P188 co-precipitation composition were systematically explored.The optimized formulation(mean size:145 nm,surface charge:-13 m V) was employed to encapsulate various amounts of NSAIDs in a simple and scalable manner.The drug release was characterized in vitro by a complete release for 48 h.These results encourage upcoming preliminary steps for in vivo experiments of prosthesis surface functionalization.展开更多

A prospective stud...The atrial pacing lead is believed having higher stimulation thresholds and long-term complication rates than ventricular lead, this being one of the factors limiting the use of dual chamber pacing. A prospective study was undertaken to evaluate both atrial and ventricular bipolar lined steroid-eluting leads in long-term dual chamber pacing. There are 81 pairs of leads (Medtronic Capsure SP) used in 81 patients. Bipolar atrial and ventricular stimulation thresholds were measured immediately post implantation and 1,3, 6,12,18 and 24 months. All leads demonstrated low mean stimulation thresholds during the follow-up and more than 94 % of leads could be paced chronically in the atrium and ventricle at 2.5 volts. In conclusion, atrial and ventricular steroid-eluting leads gave excellent stimulation thresholds allowing low energy long-term dual chamber pacing.展开更多
