It also investigates the spatial distribution characteristics of the resulting shock wave loads. Based on dimensional analysis theory, a theoretical analysis of the shock wave overpressure distribution in free air fields is conducted. Utilizing the derived dimensionless function relationships, the hydrocode AUTODYN is employed to investigate the effects of charge structure parameters and explosive combinations on the internal overdriven detonation phenomena and the distribution of shock wave loads. It is found that the overdriven detonation phenomenon in the inner layer of composite charges increases the strength of the axial detonation wave, thereby enhancing the intensity of the primary end wave formed upon refraction into the air, which affects the distribution characteristics of the shock wave overpressure. Research has shown that increasing the thickness ratio and detonation velocity ratio of composite charges is beneficial for exacerbating the phenomenon of overdriven detonation, improving the primary end wave intensity and axial overpressure. This gain effect gradually weakens with the propagation of shock waves. When overdriven detonation occurs inside the composite charge, the detonation pressure first increases and then decreases. The Mach reflection pressure of the composite charge with a larger aspect ratio is attenuated to a greater extent. In addition, as the aspect ratio of the composite charge increases, the shock wave energy gradually flows from the axial direction to the radial direction. Therefore, as the aspect ratio of the composite charge increases, the primary end wave intensity and axial overpressure gradually decrease.展开更多

The purpose of this study is to examine the dynamic large-size flame behavior, shock wave propagation law, and instantaneous thermal field generated by unconfined vapor-liquid propylene oxide(PO)/air cloud detonation. Based on computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and combustion theory, a numerical simulation is used to study the detonation process of a PO/air cloud produced by a double-event fuel-air explosive(DEFAE) of 2.16 kg. The large-scale flame behavior is characterized. The flame initially spreads radially and laterally in a wing shape. Subsequently, the developed flame increases with a larger aspect ratio. Moreover, the propagation laws of shock waves at different heights are discussed. The peak pressure of 1.3 m height level with a stepwise decline is obviously different from that of the ground with an amplitude of reversed ’N’ shape. In the vast majority of the first 6.9 m, the destructive effect of the shock wave near the ground is greater than that of the shock wave at 1.3 m height. Furthermore, the dynamic instantaneous isothermal field is demonstrated. The scaling relationship of various isotherms in the instantaneous thermal field with the flame and initial cloud is summarized. The comprehensive numerical model used in this study can be applied to determine the overpressure and temperature distribution in the entire fuel/air cloud detonation field, providing guidance for assessing the extent of damage caused by DEFAE detonation.展开更多

However, UHH steel sheets showed negligible deformation when loaded at low peak-over pressures and showed sudden brittle failure at high peak-over pressures. Similar results were obtained by quasi-static testing, UHH steel failed abruptly while Al showed ductile behavior. Results from literature indicate that to protect structures against shock loading it is necessary that they dissipate energy via plastic deformation. The Al sheets were shown to deform plastically both in quasi-static and shock loading. Thus, hardness along with ductility is required to dissipate supersonic shock waves.展开更多

However, this benefit is partially offset by a large increase in the normalized impulse(by about78% for the STF pad and 131% for the STF-infused foam pad) which may cause the shock wave mitigation performance of these two pads to become less effective. Interestingly, the use of 4 mm thick polyurea pad can greatly reduce the normalized peak pressure and impulse as well(by about 74% and 49%, respectively). These results reveal that among the potentially new suspension pads tested, the polyurea pad displays the best shock wave mitigation performance. Therefore, polyurea has potential for use as a suspension pad in personal protective equipment requiring shock wave mitigation capability such as fabric ballistic vests, bomb suits and combat helmets.展开更多

Using polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) piezoelectric gauge technique, the stress histories and propagation velocities of shock wave in the aluminum foam were measured and analyzed. The results show that the amplitude of shock wave attenuates rapidly with increasing the propagation distance in the aluminum foam, and an exponential equation of the normalized peak stress vs propagation distance of shock wave is established, the attenuation factor in the equation is (0.286.) Furthermore, the Hugoniot relation, v_s=516.85+(1.27v_p,) for the aluminum foam is determined by empirical fit to the experimental Hugoniot data.展开更多

Additionally, the velocity of the shock wave in the sandstone showed a linearly increased regularity with the increasement of the impact velocity, which was proved by theory in this paper. Furthermore, meso-scale simulation models were performed and the simulation results showed that sandstone's porosity reduced the shock waves velocity compared to nonporous materials. Pore space filled with water counteracts the effects of porosity, resulted in larger shock wave velocity.展开更多

文摘Porous materials are widely used in the field of protection because of their excellent energy absorption characteristics. In this work,a series of polyurethane microscopic models are established and the effect of porosity on the shock waves is studied with classical molecular dynamics simulations.Firstly, shock Hugoniot relations for different porosities are obtained, which compare well with the experimental data. The pores collapse and form local stress wave, which results in the complex multi-wave structure of the shock wave. The microstructure analysis shows that the local stress increases and the local velocity decreases gradually during the process of pore collapse to complete compaction. Finally,it leads to stress relaxation and velocity homogenization. The shock stress peaks can be fitted with two exponential functions, and the amplitude of attenuation coefficient decreases with the increase of density.Besides, the pore collapse under shock or non-shock are discussed by the entropy increase rate of the system. The energy is dissipated mainly through the multiple interactions of the waves under shock. The energy is dissipated mainly by the friction between atoms under non-shock.
文摘The gun-track launch system is a new special launch device that connects the track outside the muzzle.Because it is constrained by the track, the characteristics of development of the muzzle jet differ from those of the traditional muzzle jet.Specifically,it changes from freely developing to doing so in a constrained manner, where this results in an asymmetric direction of flow as well as spatio-temporal coupling-induced interference between various shock waves and the formation of vortices. In this background, the authors of this article formulate and consider the development and characteristics of evolution of the muzzle jet as it impacts a constrained moving body.We designed simulations to test the gun-track launch system, and established a numerical model based on the dynamic grid method to explore the development and characteristics of propagation of disturbances when the muzzle jet impacted a constrained moving body.We also considered models without a constrained track for the sake of comparison. The results showed that the muzzle jet assumed a circumferential asymmetric shape, and tended to develop in the area above the muzzle.Because the test platform was close to the ground, the muzzle jet was subjected to reflections from it that enhanced the development and evolution of various forms of shock waves and vortices in the muzzle jet to exacerbate its rate of distortion and asymmetric characteristics. This in turn led to significant differences in the changes in pressure at symmetric points that would otherwise have been identical. The results of a comparative analysis showed that the constrained track could hinder the influence of reflections from the ground on the muzzle jet to some extent, and could reduce the velocity of the shock waves inducing the motion of the muzzle as well as the Mach number of the moving body. The work here provides a theoretical basis and the requisite technical support for applications of the gun-track launch system. It also sheds light on the technical bottlenecks that need to be considered to recover high-value warheads.

文摘Energy output and heating effects are essential for vapor-liquid fuel/air cloud detonation in the fuel-air explosive(FAE) applications or explosion accidents. The comprehensive numerical model used in this study can be applied to determine the overpressure and temperature distribution in the entire fuel/air cloud detonation field, providing guidance for assessing the extent of damage caused by DEFAE detonation.
文摘Shock tube experiments were carried out to investigate dynamic behavior of Ultra-high hardness(UHH)steel and Aluminium(Al) sheets of 0.8 mm thickness at 0.55, 0.9 and 1.18 MPa peak-over pressure.Experimental results showed that center point deflection increases with an increase in peak-over pressure for Al sheets. Thus, hardness along with ductility is required to dissipate supersonic shock waves.

文摘In hypervelocity impacts of projectiles into thin flat targets, shock initiation and interaction dominate the responses of projectiles and targets, and especially dominate the features of the debris cloud. To estimate the geometric features of the wave front during the first complete propagation in the sphericalprojectile, the Geometric Propagation Model(GPM)is built in this paper to describe the geometry of the shock wave front, which proposes an ellipse contour as a function of time and equivalent speed. The GPM identifies the geometric features of the wave front as a function of time and impact velocity successfully.Combined with the GPM and SPH simulation, the shock pressure distribution and attenuation in the spherical-projectile have been obtained.Meanwhile, the attenuation of shock pressure and speed are presented as a function of impact velocity, respectively, and a method for obtaining the equivalent speed of the shock wave is proposed by the GPM.The GPM may be applicable to hypervelocity events involving any monolithic materials as long as the equivalent speed could be supplied from numerical simulation. The GPM proposed in this paper and the corresponding shock wave analysis provide a new insight into the processes of the quantitative analysis of the initiation of the debris cloud.

文摘The waveform of the explosion shock wave under free-field air explosion is an extremely complex problem. It is generally considered that the waveform consists of overpressure peak, positive pressure zone and negative pressure zone. Most of current practice usually considers only the positive pressure. Many empirical relations are available to predict overpressure peak, the positive pressure action time and pressure decay law. However, there are few models that can predict the whole waveform. The whole process of explosion shock wave overpressure, which was expressed as the product of the three factor functions of peak, attenuation and oscillation, was proposed in the present work.According to the principle of explosion similarity, the scaled parameters were introduced and the empirical formula was absorbed to form a mathematical model of shock wave overpressure.Parametric numerical simulations of free-field air explosions were conducted.By experimental verification of the AUTODYN numerical method and comparing the analytical and simulated curves, the model is proved to be accurate to calculate the shock wave overpressure under free-field air explosion. In addition, through the model the shock wave overpressure at different time and distance can be displayed in three dimensions. The model makes the time needed for theoretical calculation much less than that for numerical simulation.

文摘The present experimental study investigates shock wave mitigation capability of potentially new personal protective equipment(PPE) suspension pads made from polyurea and shear thickening fluid(STF).The shock tube test results show that when placed behind Twaron fabric systems with thickness ranging from 2 mm to 18 mm, the replacement of conventional flexible foam pad with STF and STF-infused foam pads with the same thickness of 20 mm greatly reduces the normalized peak pressure(by about 72% for each pad). Therefore, polyurea has potential for use as a suspension pad in personal protective equipment requiring shock wave mitigation capability such as fabric ballistic vests, bomb suits and combat helmets.
文摘The shock wave compression behavior of the open cell aluminum foam with relative density of 0.396 was studied through planar impact experiments. Using polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) piezoelectric gauge technique, the stress histories and propagation velocities of shock wave in the aluminum foam were measured and analyzed. The results show that the amplitude of shock wave attenuates rapidly with increasing the propagation distance in the aluminum foam, and an exponential equation of the normalized peak stress vs propagation distance of shock wave is established, the attenuation factor in the equation is (0.286.) Furthermore, the Hugoniot relation, v_s=516.85+(1.27v_p,) for the aluminum foam is determined by empirical fit to the experimental Hugoniot data.

文摘Methods of experimental observations, theoretical analysis and meso-scale modeling were used to study the propagation processes of shock waves in dry and wet sandstone under dynamic impact in this paper.According to the results from the dynamic impact experiments with velocity of 0.2-0.5 km/s, it was found that the velocity of shock wave increases linearly with water content. Pore space filled with water counteracts the effects of porosity, resulted in larger shock wave velocity.

文摘A critical challenge of any blast simulation facility is in producing the widest possible pressure-impulse range for matching against equivalent high-explosive events.Shock tubes and blast simulators are often constrained with the lack of effective ways to control blast wave profiles and as a result have a limited performance range. Some wave shaping techniques employed in some facilities are reviewed but often necessitate extensive geometric modifications, inadvertently cause flow anomalies,and/or are only applicable under very specific configurations. This paper investigates controlled venting as an expedient way for waveforms to be tuned without requiring extensive modifications to the driver or existing geometry and could be widely applied by existing and future blast simulation and shock tube facilities. The use of controlled venting is demonstrated experimentally using the Advanced Blast Simulator(shock tube)at the Australian National Facility of Physical Blast Simulation and via numerical flow simulations with Computational Fluid Dynamics.Controlled venting is determined as an effective method for mitigating the impact of re-reflected waves within the blast simulator. This control method also allows for the adjustment of parameters such as tuning the peak overpressure, the positive phase duration, and modifying the magnitude of the negative phase and the secondary shock of the blast waves. This paper is concluded with an illustration of the potential expanded performance range of the Australian blast simulation facility when controlled venting for blast waveform tailoring as presented in this paper is applied.

文摘Shock wave is emitted into the plate and sphere when a sphere hypervelocity impacts onto a thin plate. The fragmentation and phase change of the material caused by the propagation and unloading of shock wave could result in the formation of debris cloud eventually.Propagation models are deduced based on one-dimensional shock wave theory and the geometry of sphere, which uses elliptic equations(corresponding to ellipsoid equations in physical space)to describe the propagation of shock wave and the rarefaction wave. The“Effective thickness”is defined as the critical plate thickness that ensures the rarefaction wave overtake the shock wave at the back of the sphere. The“Effective thickness”is directly related to the form of the debris cloud. The relation of the“Effective thickness”and the“Optimum thickness”is also discussed. The impacts of Al spheres onto Al plates are simulated within SPH to verify the propagation models and associated theories. The results show that the wave fronts predicted by the propagation models are closer to the simulation result at higher impact velocity. The curvatures of the wave fronts decrease with the increase of impact velocities. The predicted“Effective thickness”is consistent with the simulation results. The analysis about the shock wave propagation and unloading in this paper can provide a new sight and inspiration for the quantitative study of hypervelocity impact and space debris protection.

文摘A systematic investigation on the mechanism of dynamic liquid dispersing process via theoretical and experimental approach is presented. The experiments include weak and strong constrained scenarios using the high-speed camera technique and the flash X-ray radiography technique.Based on dynamic analysis,one-dimensional characteristics analysis and some numerical simulations on the propagating processes of blast waves before the container shell rupturing, further and detailed analyses of the experimental results are presented. The effects of the liquid viscosity on the dynamic dispersing flow are also analyzed, and the spall fracture mechanism is explored. Thus, the dominating forces determining the dispersing liquid flow are revealed, that is,the stretching and shearing action due to the interaction of two reflecting rarefaction waves in opposite propagating directions. The influence of container shell strength on the dispersing liquid flow is also investigated, and the characters of cavitation layered in liquid before shell rupturing are uncovered. Results revealed that different shell material results in different cavitating layers. Then the different cavitating layers drive the different dynamic liquid dispersing process coming into being. The metastable liquid states caused by pressure drop and cavitation generation are discussed.
