Surface pretreatment effect on the separation and purification of magnesite and dolomite

Surface pretreatment can change the surface properties of minerals,placing them in either a favorable or an unfavorable state for flotation.To solve the separation problem associated with magnesite and dolomite,surface pretreatment experiments with citric acid,tartaric acid,and tannic acid(TA)on magnesite and dolomite as well as flotation experiments on pretreated samples were performed in this study.Experimental results demonstrated that when citric acid and tartaric acid are used for surface pretreatment,the separation effect of magnesite and dolomite is poor.However,when TA is used,the separation effect of magnesite and dolomite improves.SEM and BET analysis indicated that surface pretreatment with TA changes the surface morphology of the two minerals,resulting in additional concave pores on the dolomite surface,and a significant increase in pore size and specific surface area.The adsorption quantity test and contact angle measurement demonstrated that after surface pretreatment with TA,the magnesite adsorption capacity on sodium oleate(NaOL)slightly decreases and the dolomite adsorption capacity on NaOL considerably decreases.XPS detection concluded that the surface pretreatment of TA on the magnesite surface mainly relies on physical adsorption with weak adsorption ability and poor ability to act on Mg sites.The TA surface pretreatment action on the dolomite surface is mainly through chemical adsorption,and it is strongly and selectively adsorbed on the Ca site of dolomite through O.Actual ore rough selection experiments reveal that TA pretreatment successfully removes dolomite from magnesite,resulting in a high-quality magnesite concentrate characterized by a MgO grade of 45.49%and a CaO grade of 0.75%. 展开更多

Purification of amorphous boron powder through the removal of impurity magnesium and its physicochemical properties

At present,the most common preparation method of amorphous boron powder is magnesium thermal reduction method,but the amorphous boron powder obtained by this method mostly contains impurities such as magnesium and oxygen which are difficult to remove,and these impurities will seriously affect the application of amorphous boron powder and need to be strictly removed.In this research,the acid-insoluble impurities were modified through sintering and quenching,while the magnesium impurities were optimized via ultrasonic acid leaching.We observed that the quenching temperature played a crucial role in determining the efficiency of magnesium impurity removal.The results show that the magnesium content in amorphous boron powder can be reduced from 5.67%to 2.40%by quenching the amorphous boron powder at 800°C and using ultrasonic assisted acid leaching.Furthermore,the oxidation reaction of boron is influenced by the powder's particle size and specific surface area,with the effective activation energy being intimately tied to both these factors.Post-quenching and acid leaching,we observed an increase in the specific surface area of the boron powder samples,leading to enhanced activity.In conclusion,our study presents an effective strategy to mitigate magnesium impurities and elevate the performance of amorphous boron powder,offering promising avenues for advancing its utilization across diverse industries. 展开更多

A process of purification of coal-based coke powder as anode the treatment of coke powder with dilute hydrofluoric acid solution, for Li-ion batteries was attempted. The process started with followed by united-acid-leaching using sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. The effects of altering the hydrofluoric acid addition, hydrofluoric acid concentration, contact time, temperature and acid type were investigated. A minimum ash content of 0.35% was obtained when proper conditions were applied. The electrochemical performance of purified coke powder shows greatly improved electrochemical performance. The as-purified coke powder presented an initial reversible capacity of 257.4 mAh/g and a retention rate of 95% after 50 cycles. The proposed purification process paves a way to prepare a promising anode material with good performance with low cost of coke powder for Li-ion batteries. 展开更多

The neutral zinc sulfate solution obtained from hydrometallurgical process of Angouran zinc concentrate has cadmium, nickel and cobalt impurities, that must be purified before electrowinning. Therefore, cadmium and nickel are usually cemented out by addition of zinc dust and remained nickel and cobalt cemented out at second stage with zinc powder and arsenic trioxide. In this research, a new approach is described for determination of effective parameters and optimization of zinc electrolyte hot purification process using statistical design of experiments. The Taguchi method based on orthogonal array design(OAD) has been used to arrange the experimental runs. The experimental conditions involved in the work are as follows: the temperature range of 70-90 ℃ for reaction temperature(T), 30-90 min for reaction time(t), 2-4 g/L for zinc powder mass concentration(M), one to five series for zinc dust particle size distributions(S1-S5), and 0.1-0.5 g/L(C) for arsenic trioxide mass concentration. Optimum conditions for hot purification obtained in this work are T4(85 ℃), t4=75 min, M4=3.5 g/L, S4(Serie 4), and C2=0.2 g/L. 展开更多

The best method of papain extraction were obtained, the ratio of papain 2%, pH at 5.5, temperature at 45℃ and extraction time of 20 min were suitable for papain extraction. The highest content of Hippohpae rhamoides polysaccharides was 44.28 mg·g^-1. The optimum process of ultrasonic extraction were obtained, namely extracted for 55 min at 480 W with the material ratio of 1:20. The highest content of Hippohpae rhamoides polysaccharides was 48.63 mg·g^-1. The results showed that the ultrasonic and papain extraction together was the best method, the content was 54.30 mg·g^-1. After the removing protein, pigment and dialysis. Two fraction were separated from the purified Hippohpae rhamoides by DEAE-cellulose chromatography, the main fraction was collected finally. The fraction was identified by Sepharose CL-4B gel filtration. Ultraviolet spectrometry, freeze-thawing analysis showed that fraction was purified. Its molecular weight was probably 109.4 ku. 展开更多

Various purification methods were explored to eliminate the dissolved hydrogen and nonmetallic inclusions from molten aluminum alloys. A novel rotating impeller head with self-oscillation nozzles or an electromagnetic valve in the gas circuit was used to produce pulse gas currents for the rotary impeller degassing method. Water simulation results show that the size of gas bubbles can be decreased by 10%20% as compared with the constant gas current mode. By coating ceramic filters or particles with active flux or enamels, composite filters were used to filter the scrap A356 alloy and pure aluminum. Experimental results demonstrate that better filtration efficiency and operation performance can be obtained. Based on numerical calculations, the separation efficiency of inclusions by high frequency magnetic field can be significantly improved by using a hollow cylinder-like separator or utilizing the effects of secondary flow of the melt in a square separator. A multi-stage and multi-media purification platform based on these methods was designed and applied in on-line processing of molten aluminum alloys. Mechanical properties of the processed scrap A356 alloy are greatly improved by the composite purification. 展开更多

The development and application of spermatogonial stem cell technology have an important significance in animal cloning, preservation of endangered species and spermatogenesis research. In this study, the seminiferous epithlium cells were isolated and purified, the ceils were cryopreserved after identification, and the effects of different purification and cyopreservation methods on bovine testicular cells were studied. The results showed that there were spermatogonial stem cells and sertoli cells in the neonatal bovine seminiferous tubules, differential adherent selection methods could effectively separate these two cell types. Spermatogonial stem cells were positive after AKP, C-kit, and OCT-4 identification; sertoli ceils were positive after oil red O and vimentin identification. Frozen stock solution supplemented with 10% DMSO had the best effect in spermatogonial stem cell cryopreservation, while fxozen stock solution supplemented with 10% of ethylene glycol and 0.1 mmol. L^-1 trehalose had the best effect in sertoli cells crvooreservation. 展开更多

A system of polar ordered resins was established for purification of chlorogenic acid in Flos Lonicerae. It was composed of three reversed phase resins, AB-8, DM-130 and NKA-9, representative for their gradually increased polarity and selectivity. A method of RP-HPLC was used for determination of chlorogenic acid. And the performance of adsorption and desorption for chlorogenic acid with the system of polar ordered resins was studied. Furthermore, the effects of concentration, pH and flow rate of the adsorbate on adsorption ability were researched. It is indicated that the optimum parameters for chlorogenic acid are as follows: pH 3.5 with a flow rate of 2.5 BVh, the concentration of extract solution at 0.50, 0.40, 0.30 gL respectively for the adsorptive operation twice, and 6.93, 8.66, 10.39 molL ethanol used as gradient eluants. The purity of resulted product of chlorogenic acid arrives 70.20% with yield of 89.79%. With simple procedures, low costs and high purity product, the method of system of polar ordered resins followed by sequential reversed phase separations can be used to refine the chlorogenic acid in the extraction of Flos Lonicerae. 展开更多

In this study, an organic electrolyte solution based on zinc acetate/diethylene glycol(ZA/DEG) is introduced for the selective purification of cyclotetramethylene tetranitramine(HMX) high explosive from its identical homologue cyclotrimethylene trinitramine(RDX). The dielectric constant of various organic solutions were investigated through Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy(EIS) in the range of 1.0 Hz—30 MHz. and some quantum-chemical descriptors of RDX and HMX dissolutions in the ZA cosolvent were analyzed using Density Functional Theory(DFT). The results show dielectric constant and solubility of RDX is higher than that of HMX, and by increasing of ZA concentration in DEG solvent, the values of dielectric constants were enhanced. Furthermore, the presence of ZA cosolvent on the solubility of two explosives was statistically investigated by Central Composite Design(CCD) of experiment, and some solubility parameters including activity coefficient, dissolving enthalpy, and mixing enthalpies were determined. The experimental results indicate that the weight ratio of RDX to HMX solubility in the proposed organic electrolyte changes up to 30 times, which provides a selective and sequential separation method to separate two materials with similar chemical properties with a separation efficiency>98% and HMX purity> 99.8%. The X-Ray Diffraction(XRD) analysis, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC), Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy(LIBS), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FT-IR) approves the acceptable quality of the separated materials. The proposed method makes the efficient and safe purification of high-quality HMX for application in oil and gas well perforating gun charges, using a nonvolatile and inflammable organic electrolyte. 展开更多

To improve the purity of the total phloroglucinols from Dryopteris crassirhizoma extracts, the separation and purification conditions of the total phloroglucinols from Dryopteris crassirhizoma were studied with DM-130 macroporous adsorption resin in this study. Adsorption rate, elution rate and purity of the total phloroglucinols were used as indexes to investigate the adsorption and desorption capacity of the total phloroglucinols with DM-130 macroporous adsorption resin. Through the study, the optimum sample concentration of the total phloroglucinols and maximum sample volume were 1.5 mg·mL^-1 and 7 BV (210 mL), respectively. The optimum desorption conditions were achieved by using 80% ethanol as desorption solvent at elution flow rate of 1.0 mL·min^-1. The result showed DM-130 macroporous adsorption resin performed effective adsorption and desorption. After purification, the purity of the total phloroglucinols increased by 11.5-fold. 展开更多

EDTA has been attached covalently to the 5’ end of the oligodeoxyribonucleotides sequence via an ethylenediamine linker in basic triethylammonium solution, then chelated withthe metal ions such as Fe(Ⅱ), Co(Ⅱ) or Cu(Ⅱ). High performance liquid chromatorgaphy is used to separate and purify this kind of MAO, using double mobile phase, triethylammonium acetate and acetonitrile. Byusing this routine chemical synthesis method, EDTA can be linked to the 5’ terminus of oligodeoxyribonucleotedes of any desired length and sequence, forming chimeric MAOs. 展开更多

Improvements on environmental DNA extraction and purification procedures for matagenomic analysis

Our previously described environmental DNA extraction method has been widely used in environmental microbial community analysis. However, residual humic substances may remain with obtained environmental DNA, which interferes downstream molecular analyses. To remedy this situation, two DNA extraction buffers (PIPES and Tris-HCl) and four purification strategies including our new modified low melting point gel purification method and three commercial kits from QIAEX, Omega and Promega were evaluated with diverse soil samples. The PIPES buffer (pH 6.5) is found to be more effective for removing the humic substances, but it leads to lower DNA yield and causes more severe DNA shearing than using the Tris-HC1 buffer (pH 8.0). Gel purification and the Promega purification kit achieve much higher DNA recoveries than QIAEX or Omega kit, and higher purity of DNA is obtained by gel purification than by the Promega kit with both DNA extraction buffers mentioned above. Considering all results together, two alternative methods for DNA extraction and purification are proposed: one uses Tris-HCl buffer extraction and gel purification as the primary approach when the amount of soil or biomass is not a major concern, and the other uses PIPES buffer extraction and the Promega kit purification when severe DNA shearing and/or limited biomass occurs. Purified DNA samples by both methods are amenable for use as templates for whole community genome amplifications and PCR amplifications of bacterial 16S rRNA genes. It is demonstrated that these two alternative methods could be applied to a wide variety of environmental samples. 展开更多

Purification and characterization of extracellular chitinase from a novel strain Aspergillus fumigatus CS-01

Twelve samples derived from different locations in south central area of China are treated by enrichment and spread-plate technique for initial screening. Seven chitinase-producing strains are isolated. The chitinase present in the culture supematant of strain CS-01 possesses the maximum activity of 0.118 U/mL. Analysis of the morphological feature and the ITS rDNA sequence reveals that strain CS-01 belongs to Aspergillus fumigatus. Production of the chitinase is regulated by a inducible way and the maximum activity appears at 36 h in colloidal chitin culture. Purification of the chitinase is carried out by salting out, gel filtrate chromatography and anion exchange chromatography sequentially. Native-PAGE and SDS-PAGE indicate that the chitinase from A. fumigatus CS-01 is a monomer with the relative molecular mass estimated to be 4.50 × 10^4. Its maximum activity appears at pH 5 and 55 ℃. To further utilize bioactive substance such as bovine colostrum sIgA and IgG, sIgA and IgG were isolated and purified simultaneously by salting out, ultrafiltration and gel chromatography, etc. The analysis of results were showed quantitatively by nonhydrogenized SDS-PAGE, and quanlities of sIgA and IgG were respectively detected by Western Blot. The results showed that the purity and yield of bovine colostrum sIgA were 85.3% and 42.8%, respectively, while the purity and yield of bovine colostrum IgG were respectively 97.2% and 64.4%. This preparative method provides theoretical and experimental foundation for sIgA industrial production. 展开更多
