Present investigation is concerned with the free vibration property of a beam with periodically variable cross-sections.For the special geometry characteristic, the beam was modelled as the combination of long equal-length uniform Euler-Bernoulli beam segments and short equal-length uniform Timoshenko beam segments alternately.By using continuity conditions, the hybrid beam unit(ETE-B) consisting of Euler-Bernoulli beam,Timoshenko beam and Euler-Bernoulli beam in sequence was developed.Classical boundary conditions of pinned-pinned,clamped-clamped and clamped-free were considered to obtain the natural frequencies.Numerical examples of the equal-length composite beam with 1,2 and 3 ETE-B units were presented and compared with the equal-length and equal-cross-section Euler-Bernoulli beam, respectively. The work demonstrates that natural frequencies of the composite beam are larger than those of the Euler-Bernoulli beam, which in practice,is the interpretation that the inner-welded plate can strengthen a hollow beam.In this work, comparisons with the finite element calculation were presented to validate the ETE-B model. 展开更多

In seismic design of tapered high pier, the analysis of natural vibration frequency is of great importance. According to the engineering features of tapered high pier in mountainous area, a vibration calculation model was set up considering the tapered pier characteristics and pile-soil interaction. Based on Southwell frequency composition theory, it consists of elastic deformation of bridge pier and the rigid deformation of group piles, which are respectively solved by the finite-element method and energy method, and then the natural frequency is derived. The comparison between the measured and calculated results shows that the calculation errors with and without considering pile-soil interaction are 4.9% and 14.7%, respectively. Additionally, the main parameters (pier height, section variation coefficient and lateral foundation horizontal proportional coefficient) affecting natural frequency were investigated. The result shows that natural frequency ascends with the increase of the lateral foundation horizontal proportional coefficient; and it is quite necessary to consider the pile-soil interaction in natural frequency calculation of tapered high pier. 展开更多

The frequency selective surface (FSS) has been widely applied by means of its spatial frequency-filter characteristic, but it is always designed and used as a device with fixed frequency response. In order to tune the resonant frequency and switch the frequency channel, a scheme of mechanically tunable FSS is theoretically analyzed by using the method of Floquet's vector modes expansion and fields matching. A double-layer tunable FSS with dipole element can perform a dynamic range of resonant frequency covering whole X-band. 展开更多

Factors for determining the spindle size are the shaft diameter, positions of bearing and motor, and entire length of the spindle. Then, it is important to find the assembling of the optimal design variables, which satisfy the stiffimss and rotational speed required to the spindle. A general full factorial design method was used to verify some factors that affect the natural frequency of a spindle. It is verified that the shorter shaft length and bearing span length represent the higher natural frequency, and there are some effects according to the change in the levels of factors. The detailed spindle dimension is determined by applying an EVD method, which can define the optimal bearing position through considering the limiting condition. Based on the estimated regression model, the optimal spindle size and bearing distance that can improve the primary natural frequency are obtained, and the influence of design factors on the natural frequency is also analyzed. 展开更多

The effects of concrete's time-variant elastic modulus, casting structural components, assembling temporary shoring framework system, and shock by operating construction equipment on dynamic behavior of the reinforced concrete frame structure during construction were investigated. The dynamic tests of an eight-storey reinforced concrete frame structure during full-scaled stages of the sixth storey construction cycle were carried out by ambient vibration. Natural frequencies, corresponding mode shapes and damping ratio were determined by power spectrum processing the tested signal data in frequency domain. The changes of frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios at different construction stages were given. The results show that natural frequencies and modal damping ratios reach the maximum at stage of casting fresh concrete, especially for higher modes. Modal damping ratios at each construction stage are less than 5% of those during usage. 展开更多

This article deals with investigating the effect of cut-outs on the natural frequencies of magneto-electroelastic(MEE)plates incorporating finite element methods based on higher order shear deformation theory(HSDT).In order to consider the influence of cut-out,the energy of the cut-out domain is subtracted from the total energy of the entire plate. The governing equations of motions are derived through incorporating Hamilton’s principle and the solution is obtained using condensation technique. The proposed numerical formulation is verified with the results of previously published literature as well as the numerical software. In addition, this research focuses on evaluating the effect of geometrical skewness and boundary conditions on the frequency response. The influence of cut-outs on the degree of coupling between magnetic, electric and elastic fields is also investigated. 展开更多

Based on some assumptions, the dynamic governing equation of anchorage system is established. The calculation formula of natural frequency and the corresponding vibration mode are deduced.Besides, the feasibility of the theoretical method is verified by using a specific example combined with other methods. It is found that the low-order natural frequency corresponds to the first mode of vibration, and the high-order natural frequency corresponds to the second mode of vibration, while the third mode happens only when the physical and mechanical parameters of anchorage system meet certain conditions. With the increasing of the order of natural frequency, the influence on the dynamic mechanical response of anchorage system decreases gradually.Additionally,a calculating method, which can find the dangerous area of anchorage engineering in different construction sites and avoid the unreasonable design of anchor that may cause resonance,is proposed to meet the seismic precautionary requirements. This method is verified to be feasible and effective by being applied to an actual project. The study of basic dynamic features of anchorage system can provide a theoretical guidance for anchor seismic design and fast evaluation of anchor design scheme. 展开更多

The present study explored the influence of axial gradation of viscoelastic materials on the dynamic response of the sandwich beam for structural applications. The finite element(FE)formulations are used to model and investigate dynamic response of the sandwich beam. The classical beam theory is used to develop the FE formulations and Lagrange's approach is considered to obtain the equations of motion(EOM).FE code is developed and validated with the existing literature and also conducted the convergence study for the developed FE method.Further, the influence of different viscoelastic materials and boundary conditions on the dynamic response of the sandwich beam is investigated.Four different axial gradation configurations of viscoelastic materials are considered for the present work to explore the influence on natural frequency, loss factor and frequency response of the sandwich beam. The modeled axial gradation of viscoelastic material has displayed a considerable impact on the peak vibrational amplitude response of the sandwich beam for all the boundary conditions and these configurations improved the damping capabilities at different configurations for the structural applications. 展开更多

To ameliorate reliability analysis efficiency for aeroengine components, such as compressor blade, support vector machine response surface method(SRSM) is proposed. SRSM integrates the advantages of support vector machine(SVM) and traditional response surface method(RSM), and utilizes experimental samples to construct a suitable response surface function(RSF) to replace the complicated and abstract finite element model. Moreover, the randomness of material parameters, structural dimension and operating condition are considered during extracting data so that the response surface function is more agreeable to the practical model. The results indicate that based on the same experimental data, SRSM has come closer than RSM reliability to approximating Monte Carlo method(MCM); while SRSM(17.296 s) needs far less running time than MCM(10958 s) and RSM(9840 s). Therefore, under the same simulation conditions, SRSM has the largest analysis efficiency, and can be considered a feasible and valid method to analyze structural reliability. 展开更多

The sandwich panel incorporated a honeycomb core,a widely utilized composite structure recognized as a fundamental classification of composite materials.Comprised a core resembling a honeycomb, possessing thickness and softness, and is flank by rigid face sheets that sandwich various shapes and materials. This paper presents an examination of the static and dynamic analysis of lightweight plates made of aluminum honeycomb sandwich composites.Honeycomb sandwich plate samples are 300 mm long, and 300 mm wide, the heights of the core have been varied at four values ranging from 10 to 25 mm.The honeycomb core is manufactured from Aluminum material by using a novel technique namely resistance spot welding(RSW)instead of using adhesive material, which is often used when an industrial flaw is detected.Numerical optimization based on response surface methodology(RSM)and design of experiment software(DOE)was used to verify the current work.A theoretical examination of the crashworthiness behavior(maximum bending load, maximum deflection)and vibration attributes(natural frequency, damping ratio, transient temporal response)of honeycomb sandwich panels with different design parameters was also carried out.In addition, the finite element method-based ANSYS software was used to confirm the theoretical conclusions. The findings of the present work showed that the relationship between the natural frequency, core height, and cell size is direct. In contrast, the relationship between the natural frequency and the thickness of the cell wall is inverse.Conversely, the damping ratio is inversely proportional to the core height and cell size but directly proportional to the thickness of the cell wall. The study indicates that altering the core height within 10-25 mm leads to a significant increase of 82%in the natural frequency and a notable decrease of 49%in the damping ratio. These findings are based on a specific cell size value of 0.01 m and a cell wall thickness of 0.001 m.Also, the results indicate that for a given set of cell wall thickness and size values,an increase in core height from(0.01-0.025)m,leads to a reduction of the percentage of maximum response approX imately 76%.Conversely,the increasing thickness of the wall of cell wall, ranging 0.3-0.7 mm with a constant core height equal to 0.015 m,resulted in a de crease of maximum transient response by 7.8%. 展开更多

In order to build the model of the drum level wave action and sloshing, based on the method of modularization modeling, the hydrodynamic model of drum level wave action and sloshing was developed, and dynamic simulation researches were carried out based on the model. The results indicate that both drum level and drum length have functional relations with period of drum level wave action and sloshing. When the drum level decreases or drum length increases, the period of drum level wave action and sloshing increases, density of liquid and number of sub-module division have little influence on the period of drum level wave action and sloshing. The model was validated by the analytical solution theory of liquid’s wave action and sloshing in cuboid container, and the 3D graphics of drum level wave action and sloshing was also obtained. The model can dynamically reflect the rules of wave action and sloshing of water in the container exactly. 展开更多

Composite hollow shafts are used in power transmission applications due to their high specific stiffness and high specific strength. The dynamic characteristics of these shafts are important for transmission applications.Dynamic modelling of these shafts is generally carried out using Equivalent Modulus Beam Theory(EMBT)and Layerwise Beam Theory(LBT)formulations. The EMBT formulation is modified by considering stacking sequence, shear normal coupling, bending twisting coupling and bending stretching coupling. It is observed that modified EMBT formulation is underestimating the shafts stiffness at lower length/mean diameter(l/dm)ratios.In the present work,a new formulation is developed by adding shear deformation along the thickness direction to the existing modified EMBT formulation. The variation of shear deformation along the thickness direction is found using different shear deformation theories,i.e.,first-order shear deformation theory(FSDBT),parabolic shear deformation theory(PSDBT),trigonometric shear deformation theory(TSDBT),and hyperbolic shear deformation theory(HSDBT).The analysis is performed at l/d_(m) ratios of 5,10,15,20,25,30,35,and 40 for carbon/epoxy composites,E-glass/epoxy composites, and boron/epoxy composite shafts. The results show that new formulation has improved the bending natural frequency of the composite shafts for l/d_(m)<15 in comparison with modified EMBT.The effect of new formulation is more significant for the second and third bending modes of natural frequencies. 展开更多
