Coupling mechanism of mineralization and hydrocarbon-forming in hydrothermal convection system: An example from Longtoushan Sn-polymetal deposit, Dachang

The anthraxolite is the ... Longtoushan Sn-polymetal deposit is a large-scale deposit of high-tenor. The ore-bodies occur in reef limestone of middle Devonian. There is much anthraxolite in reef limestone and ore-bodies. The anthraxolite is the postmature result of oil-gas' thermal metamorphism. The close relationship of anthraxolite and Sn-polymetal deposit reveals the space-time relation between oil-gas evolution and Sn-polymetal mineralization. Sulfur isotope of Longtoushan deposit is close to oil's sulfur in Devonian, which indicates obvious relationship between the sulfur's source of deposit and oil-gas' activity. The forming of Longtoushan deposit relates to exhalative-sedimentary mineralization in Devonian. Because of the favorable hydrocarbon-forming condition of Longtoushan reef and surrounding basin facies' black shale and peat, coupling of ore-formation and hydrocarbon-forming occurs in seabed's hydrothermal convection. The distributing of ore-forming elements indicates the presence of hydrothermal convection system. The thermal fluid containing organic matters conduces to Sn-polymetal elements' activation and transfer, and provides catalyzing condition to the transforming from SO42- to S2-. The erosion action of brine containing organic acid to reef limestone induces the growing of crannies and karst's caverns, which provides advantageous space to Sn-polymetal mineralization. The heat source of mineralization provides thermocatalysis condition to hydrocarbon-forming. When the circulatory fluid containing oil-gas enters the high-temperature region(>150 ℃ ), the oil-gas is decomposed and anthraxolite comes into being. 展开更多

定位器是接触网系统中的关键零部件,其服役性能的稳定直接决定弓网系统能否安全稳定运行。针对400 km/h高铁运行过程中,定位器所受载荷特性及其疲劳性能开展研究。首先,通过弓网动力学仿真获取了300 km/h、350 km/h和400 km/h工况下的... 定位器是接触网系统中的关键零部件,其服役性能的稳定直接决定弓网系统能否安全稳定运行。针对400 km/h高铁运行过程中,定位器所受载荷特性及其疲劳性能开展研究。首先,通过弓网动力学仿真获取了300 km/h、350 km/h和400 km/h工况下的接触网振动位移,将其代入腕臂-定位器模型进行分析,明确定位器为关键薄弱点;然后,基于定位器精确有限元模型,计算了动态运行过程中定位器的应力分布;之后,基于核密度估计和Monte Carlo法对应力进行外推,并编制了其二维应力谱;最后,采用Miner线性累积损伤理论对定位器的疲劳寿命进行计算。结果表明,在300 km/h、350 km/h和400 km/h三种工况下,定位器最大应力值分别为152.53 MPa、191.01 MPa和260.48 MPa,定位器能承受的受电弓架次分别为845630次、392041次和82951次。 展开更多

Since the beginning of the 21st century,advances in big data and artificial intelligence have driven a paradigm shift in the geosciences,moving the field from qualitative descriptions toward quantitative analysis,from observing phenomena to uncovering underlying mechanisms,from regional-scale investigations to global perspectives,and from experience-based inference toward data-and model-enabled intelligent prediction.AlphaEarth Foundations(AEF)is a next-generation geospatial intelligence platform that addresses these changes by introducing a unified 64-dimensional shared embedding space,enabling-for the first time-standardized representation and seamless integration of 12 distinct types of Earth observation data,including optical,radar,and lidar.This framework significantly improves data assimilation efficiency and resolves the persistent problem of“data silos”in geoscience research.AEF is helping redefine research methodologies and fostering breakthroughs,particularly in quantitative Earth system science.This paper systematically examines how AEF’s innovative architecture-featuring multi-source data fusion,high-dimensional feature representation learning,and a scalable computational framework-facilitates intelligent,precise,and realtime data-driven geoscientific research.Using case studies from resource and environmental applications,we demonstrate AEF’s broad potential and identify emerging innovation needs.Our findings show that AEF not only enhances the efficiency of solving traditional geoscientific problems but also stimulates novel research directions and methodological approaches. 展开更多

In this study,Schwertmannite,Akaganéite and ammoniojarosite were biosynthesized by different bacteria and characterized.The results showed that bacteria are critical in mediating the mineral formation process:the morphology,crystallinity,grain size and specific surface area of each mineral varied upon different bacteria and culturing conditions.In addition,the formed minerals’elemental composition and group disparity lead to different morphology,crystallinity and subsequent adsorption performance.In particular,adsorption difference existed in iron minerals biosynthesized by different bacteria.The maximal adsorption capacities of Akaganéite,Schwertmannite and ammoniojarosite were 26.6 mg/g,17.5 mg/g and 3.90 mg/g respectively.Cr(VI)adsorption on iron-minerals involves hydrogen bonding,electrostatic interaction,and ligand exchange.The adsorption only occurred on the surface of ammoniojarosite,while for Akaganéite and Schwertmannite,the tunnel structure greatly facilitated the adsorption process and improved adsorption capacity.Thus,the molecular structure is the primary determining factor for adsorption performance.Collectively,the results can provide useful information in selecting suitable bacteria for synthesizing heavy-metal scavenging minerals according to different environmental conditions. 展开更多

The insensitive munitions compound nitroguanidine(NQ)is used by the U.S.Army to avoid unintended explosions.However,NQ also represents an emerging contaminant whose environmental emissions can cause toxicity toward aquatic organisms,indicating the need for effective remediation strategies.Thus,we investigated the feasibility of treating water contaminated with NQ in continuous-flow columns packed with zero-valent iron(ZVI)or iron sulfide(FeS).Initially,the impact of pH on NQ transformation by ZVI or FeS was evaluated in batch experiments.The pseudo first-order rate constant for NQ transformation(k_(1,NQ))by ZVI was 8-10 times higher at pH 3.0 compared to pH 5.5 and 7.0,whereas similar k_(1,NQ)values were obtained for FeS at pH 5.5-10.0.Based on these findings,the influent p H fed to the ZVIand Fe S-packed columns was adjusted to 3.0 and 5.5,respectively.Both reactors transformed NQ into nitrosoguanidine(Nso Q).Further transformation of Nso Q by ZVI produced aminoguanidine,guanidine,and cyanamide,whereas Nso Q transformation by Fe S produced guanidine,ammonium,and traces of urea.ZVI outperformed Fe S as a reactive material to remove NQ.The ZVI-packed column effectively removed NQ below detection even after 45 d of operation(490 pore volumes,PV).In contrast,NQ breakthrough(removal efficiency<85%)was observed after 18 d(180 PV)in the Fe S-packed column.The high NQ removal efficiency and long service life of the ZVI-packed column(>490 PV)suggest that the technology is a promising approach for NQ treatment in packed-bed reactors and in situ remediation. 展开更多

Understanding the adsorption behavior of heavy metals and metalloids on clay minerals is essential for remediating heavy metal-contaminated soils.The adsorption of heavy metals and metalloids on illite(001)and sodium montmorillonite(Na-MMT)(001)surfaces was investigated using first-principles calculations in this study,especially As atom and H_(3)AsO_(3) molecule.The adsorption energies of the As atom were−1.94 eV on the illite(001)and−0.56 eV on the Na-MMT(001),whereas,the adsorption energies of the H_(3)AsO_(3) molecule were−1.40 eV on illite(001)and−1.01 eV on Na-MMT(001).The above results indicate that the adsorption was more energetically favorable on illite(001).Additionally,compared to Na-MMT(001),there were more significant interactions between the atoms/molecules on the illite(001).After As atom and H_(3)AsO_(3) molecule adsorption,the electrons were transferred from mineral surface atoms to the adsorbates on both illite(001)and Na-MMT(001)surfaces.Moreover,the adsorption of As atom on illite(001)and Na-MMT(001)surfaces were more energy favorable compared to Hg,Cd,and Cr atoms.Overall,this work provides new insights into the adsorption behavior of As atoms and As molecules on illite and Na-MMT.The results indicate that illite rich soils are more prone to contamination by arsenic compared to soils primarily composed of Na-MMT minerals. 展开更多

Finding appropriate flotation reagents to separate copper-nickel sulfide ores from various magnesium silicate gangue minerals has always been a challenge in the mineral processing industry.This study introduced xanthan gum(XG)as a non-toxic and environmentally friendly depressant of talc,olivine,and serpentine.The effects and mechanisms of XG on the aggregation and flotation behavior of talc,olivine and serpentine were investigated by flotation tests,sedimentation tests,IC-FBRM particle size analysis tests,adsorption quantity tests,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)tests,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis tests and Zeta potential tests.The flotation results indicated that when the three minerals were mixed,XG caused the talc-serpentine aggregation in the solution to shift to olivine-serpentine aggregation,with the remaining XG adsorbing on talc to depress its flotation.In addition,combining XPS and zeta potential tests,the-OH(hydroxyl)groups in XG molecules preferentially adsorbed on Mg sites on the surface of olivine through chemical bonding.The surface potential of olivine significantly shifted to a more negative value,with the negative charge on the olivine surface far exceeding that on the talc surface.This resulted in an increased aggregation effect between positively charged serpentine and negatively charged olivine due to enhanced electrostatic forces. 展开更多

Machine learning improve the discrimination of raw cotton from different countries

This study investigates t... Background The geo-traceability of cotton is crucial for ensuring the quality and integrity of cotton brands. However, effective methods for achieving this traceability are currently lacking. This study investigates the potential of explainable machine learning for the geo-traceability of raw cotton.Results The findings indicate that principal component analysis(PCA) exhibits limited effectiveness in tracing cotton origins. In contrast, partial least squares discriminant analysis(PLS-DA) demonstrates superior classification performance, identifying seven discriminating variables: Na, Mn, Ba, Rb, Al, As, and Pb. The use of decision tree(DT), support vector machine(SVM), and random forest(RF) models for origin discrimination yielded accuracies of 90%, 87%, and 97%, respectively. Notably, the light gradient boosting machine(Light GBM) model achieved perfect performance metrics, with accuracy, precision, and recall rate all reaching 100% on the test set. The output of the Light GBM model was further evaluated using the SHapley Additive ex Planation(SHAP) technique, which highlighted differences in the elemental composition of raw cotton from various countries. Specifically, the elements Pb, Ni, Na, Al, As, Ba, and Rb significantly influenced the model's predictions.Conclusion These findings suggest that explainable machine learning techniques can provide insights into the complex relationships between geographic information and raw cotton. Consequently, these methodologies enhances the precision and reliability of geographic traceability for raw cotton. 展开更多

Red mud is a solid waste discharged in the process of alumina production,and how to realize the efficient recovery of its iron is an urgent problem to be solved.In this study,the iron extraction test and mechanism study of high iron red mud were carried out under the coupling conditions of multiple physical field(microwave field,gas-solid flow field and temperature field)with biomass as the reducing agent.The test results showed that under the optimal conditions,an iron concentrate with a yield of 78.4%,an iron grade of 59.23%,and a recovery rate of 86.65%was obtained.The analyses of XRD,XPS,TEM,and SEM-EDS showed that during the roasting process,the hematite in the high-iron red mud was completely converted to magnetite,and the biomass produced the reductant that provided the magnetization reaction;A large number of cracks and pores appeared in the surface of the hematite reduction product particles,which helped to induce iron minerals to undergo effective mineral phase transformation.The above study provides ideas for the phase transformation and efficient recovery of iron minerals in red mud. 展开更多

The age of mineralization in a mining area is a primary factor in various researches related to ore\|forming process. It is that the uncertainty of mineralization ages of gold ore deposits in northern zone of eastern Kunlun Mountains, Qinghai Province, restrains to probe the relationship of the deposits to the regional tectonic evolution. This paper documents the fission track method used to determine the ages of gold ore deposits in eastern Kunlun Mountains and considers the implication for the origin of the deposits.Eastern Kunlun Mountains is the northern part of the Qinghai—Tibet Plateau and is of three deep\|seated fault belts in about EW extension. This work mainly includes three gold ore districts. All of them, in the north of Mid\|Kunlun fault belt, belong to northern part of eastern Kunlun Mountains. The Yanjingou district, with geographical coordinate 96°00’E and 36°10’N, is located 60 km north of Hongqigou district . Both of them are large, typical tectonoalteration gold deposits and were formed in similar geological setting. Hongshuihe ore district is located 50 km east of Yanjingou district and includes tectonoalteration and magmatic cryptoexplosive gold deposits. Outcroped strata are dominantly Jinshuikou Group metamorphic rocks of Lower Proterozoic erathem. The occurrence area of igneous rocks, especially granitoid, accounts for about 90% in first two districts and become less in Hongshuihe district. The gold deposits occur in NW\|striking fault belts. The Rb\|Sr isochron age and K\|Ar isotopic age of Moyite relevant to the gold mineralization are respectively 228 25Ma and 207 1Ma. Rb\|Sr dating of diorite porphyrite is 209 09Ma. Sericite selected from Yanjingou orebody has 252 9Ma K\|Ar age. The ore in Hongqigou district has 197Ma K\|Ar age and 210Ma model age of Pb isotope of galena. 展开更多

Equipment for deep sea mining has risen from a position of virtual non-existence to a major industrial significance and in deep sea bed mining, the miner is the key equipment of the whole system that charges with the most complex and dangerous task.Evaluation of trafficability for tracked vehicles for deep sea mining is essential. Rare earth elements(REEs) are used in a wide range of modern applications. These applications are highly specific and substitutes are inferior or unknown. One possible source of the REE could be the poly-metallic nodule, at present explored in the tropical part of the Pacific Ocean. In developing miners of high performance, dynamic behaviour should be investigated under various traveling conditions. The mechanics of tracked vehicles is of continuing interest to organizations and agencies that specify design and operate tracked vehicles. Most works done are on the complete track vehicle system but in this work the research activity is aimed only at the track system with the basic aim of optimizing the track system design so that it can be manufactured by using the minimum resources. Equations and models are developed for the track system of a miner during steering motion. These equations and models could further be used for design optimization of the track system. 展开更多

The galvanic coupling formed in origin potential flotation systems of sulfide minerals can be divided (into) three types: sulfide mineral-sulfide mineral-water system; sulfide mineral-steel ball-water system; and sulfide mineral-sulfide mineral-collector system. In this paper, taking lead, zinc, iron sulfide mineral systems for examples, several models of galvanic coupling were proposed and the effects of galvanic coupling on flotation were discussed. A galvanic contact between galena (or sphalerite) and pyrite contributes to decreasing the content of zinc in lead concentrate, and enhances remarkably the absorption of collector on the galena surface. During grinding, due to galvanic interactions between minerals and steel medium, Fe(OH)3 formed covers on the cathodic mineral surface, affecting its floatability. 展开更多

As a solution to the breaking of pipeline under high axial force,carbon fiber composite pipe with low density and high intensity is applied to deep-sea mining transporting system.Based on the fact that the transporting pipe is under the forces of gravity,inner liquid,buoyancy as well as hydrodynamic force,geometric nonlinear finite element theory has been applied to analyzing the transporting system.Conclusions can be drawn as follows.Under the interaction of waves and currents,node forces FX and FZ acted by the transporting pipe on the mining vehicle are less than 2 kN,which indicates that waves and currents have little influence on the spatial shape of the transporting pipe and the mining vehicle movement.On the other hand,the horizontal force acting on the mining ship could be as large as 106 830 N,which has great influence on the mining system. 展开更多

Initiated as an intra\|oceanic island\|arc crust in Neotethys, the terr... The Kohistan Terrane in N. Pakistan straddles the suture zone between the collided Indian and Eurasian plates in the NW Himalayas of N. Pakistan. Initiated as an intra\|oceanic island\|arc crust in Neotethys, the terrane accreted with the southern margin of the Karakoram Plate in the Late Cretaceous (about 90Ma). Continued subduction at its southern margin resulted in Andean\|type magmatism and tectonics, until collision with the Indian Plat in the Early Eocene.Whereas much of the central and eastern Kohistan expose Cretaceous volcanic and sedimentary rocks of intra\|oceanic island arc setting, the western Kohistan in Swat, Dir, Chitral and upper Ghizer valleys preserves remnants of the Late Paleocene—Early Eocene volcanism and sedimentation of Andean\|type setting. These volcano\|sedimentary lithologies in western Kohistan are geographically divisible into two, separated by the Lowari Pluton; (1) Dir\|Swat Belt, (2) Drosh\|Shamran Belt. Late Paleocene\|Early Eocene siliceous volcanics termed Utror Volcanics and Shamran Volcanics are common in the two belts and so are the plutons intrusive into these volcanics (Late Stage\|II of the Kohistan Batholith). The difference is in the sedimentary successions presented in the two belts. Whereas in the Dir\|Swat belt, the sedimentary succession comprises Baraul Banda Slate Formation, deposited in deep\|water fore\|arc setting and contemporaneous in age with that of the nearby Utror Volcanic Formation (about 55~60Ma), the sediments in the Drosh\|Shamran belt are distinctly red beds of fluvial origin (the Purit Formation) those overlie unconformably on top of the Shamran Volcanics and their equivalents. 展开更多

The Lanping Mesozoic—Cenozoic sedimentary basin, situated in the Middle section of the “Sanjiang" (Nujiang—Lancangjiang—Jinshajiang) area in the east margin of the Tibet plateau, is well known for its large p... The Lanping Mesozoic—Cenozoic sedimentary basin, situated in the Middle section of the “Sanjiang" (Nujiang—Lancangjiang—Jinshajiang) area in the east margin of the Tibet plateau, is well known for its large production of base\|metal sulphide deposits. The worldwide famous super\|large Jinding Pb\|Zn deposit is located in the middle of the basin. The evolution history of the Lanping basin since Mesozoic can be divided into six stages, i.e., ①active continental marginal basin (T 1—T 2); ②back\|arc rift basin (T 3—J 1); ③intracontinental depressive basin (J 2—J 3); ④foreland basin (K); ⑤strike\|slipping and mutual thrusting (E 1—E 3); and ⑥strike\|slipping and pull\|apart basin (N 1\|present). Three main types of Ag\|Cu polymetal deposits are recognized in the basin. Deposits of sedimentary exhalation\|hydrothermal reworking origin (type Ⅰ) are hosted chiefly in limestones, dolomitic limestones, and siliceous rocks of the Upper Triassic Sanhedong Formation (T 3 s ) in Sanshan area. Deposits formed through normal chemical sedimentation in closed to semi\|closed environments (type Ⅱ; e.g., Jinman and Baiyangchang) during the depressive and foreland basin stages occur in various horizons of Jurassic and Cretaceous ages. Hydrothermal reworking on deposits of this type during the Himalayan period are locally pronounced, especially in the west margin of the basin near the Lancangjiang thrust fault. The third deposit type in the basin (type Ⅲ; e.g., Baiyangping and Fulongchang) is the Ag\|bearing tetrahedrite vein deposits occurring almost in all Mesozoic—Cenozoic strata, especially in the Cretaceous. Ore minerals formed during synsedimentary periods of types Ⅰ and Ⅱ are relatively simple and dominated by chalcopyrite and bornite, though sphalerite, galena, pyrite, tetrahedrite and pyrite are also present. In the deposits of type Ⅲ as well as in the ores formed during the hydrothermal reworking period in deposits of type Ⅰ and Ⅱ, ore minerals are extremely complicated and characterized by predominant Ag\|bearing tetrahedrite and other complex sulfosalts of Cu\|Ni\|Co\|Fe\|As\|S and Cu\|Bi\|S series. The associated gangue minerals are mainly quartz, siderite, Fe\|dolomite, barite, and celestite. 展开更多

The effect of mineral particle size, pulp potential and category of oxidant on pyrite leaching was studied. The results show that a smaller mineral particle size leads to a higher leaching rate of pyrite, and the optimum result with pyrite leaching rate of 2.92% is obtained when mineral particle size is less than 0.037 mm. The pulp potential reflects the leaching process. The increase of pulp potential can improve pyrite leaching. The leaching rate and velocity of pyrite can be enhanced rapidly by adding strong oxidant. The kind and the method of adding oxidant have important effect on the pyrite leaching. Appropriate concentration of Fe3+ can enhance pyrite leaching but the precipitation generated by high concentration of ferric ion covers the surface of pyrites and prevents the leaching process. The leaching rate increases with the constant addition of H2O2. 展开更多

The study area is part of the Urumieh–Dokhtar volcanic arc that a large part of its surface is covered by extrusive Igneous rocks(tuff,intermediate lavas and ignimbrites sheets),plutonic igneous(diorite and granodiorite)and semi-deep stones(dyke and sill).Studied samples are situated in calc-alkaline domain of magmatic series diagrams.Harker diagrams show the fractional crystallization of Clinopyroxene,amphibole,plagioclase,alkali feldspars and opaque minerals(ilmenite Titano-magnetite,ilmenite and rutile).In spider diagrams,light rare earth elements(LREE)are enriched compared to heavy rare earth elements(HREE),and HFS elements(Ti,Nb)show negative anomaly and LFS elements(Cs,K,Pb)show positive anomaly,showing that it is a distinct characteristic of subduction zones.Skarns of the area mainly are of exoskarns and are rich in plagioclase,microcline,amphibole,biotite and epidote.Skarn is enriched of iron,copper,molybdenum,vanadium,lead,zinc and silver.Deposits of barite in the area show characteristics of volcanic-sedimentary barites and are associated to ore-bearing hydrothermal solutions.Using satellite images and processing information,four areas with high mineral potential are identified in the area. 展开更多
