In the corresponding finite element method(FEM) simulations a modified coupled thermomechanical constitutive model is employed to describe the mechanical properties of metallic glass(MG)matrix, and geometrical models of the WP/MG composite rod are established based on its inner structure. The deformation and failure characteristics of the rod and target materials are analyzed in detail, and the influences of various factors on the ballistic performance of the WP/MG composite long rod are discussed. Related analysis demonstrates that the penetrating performance of the WP/MG rod is similar to that of the tungsten fiber/metallic glass matrix(WF/MG) composite long rod, i.e., a "self-sharpening" behavior also occurs during the penetration process, and correspondingly its penetrating capability is better than that of the tungsten heavy alloy(WHA) rod. However, the mass erosion manner of the WP/MG rod is different and the erosion is relatively severe, thus its penetrating capability is a little lower compared with that of the WF/MG one. Moreover, the impact velocity and the target strength have significant influences on the ballistic performance of the WP/MG composite rod, whereas the effect of initial nose shape is very little.展开更多

There exists metal preferential corrosion for the cermet inert anode with metal Ni as metallic phase. The model is suggested on the basis of the assumption that the perforation of a thick metallic plate by a long rod can be divided into three stages:(1) initial penetration;(2) plug formation and (3) plug slipping and separation. Various analytical equations are derived which can be employed to predict the ballistic limit, residual velocity and residual length of the long rod. It is demonstrated that the present model predictions are in good agreement with available experimental results for the perforation of finite steel targets struck normally by steel as well as tungsten alloy long rods at high velocities. It is also demonstrated that the dynamic maximum shear stress of a plate material has strong effect on plug formation and plug thickness which, in turn, exerts considerable influence on the residual velocities and lengths of a long rod at impact velocities just above the ballistic limit.展开更多

Three yield criteria, including von Mises yield criterion, Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion and the unified yield criterion were used to describe the yield phenomena of the metallic glasses. Two classes of the experimental data were chosen to draw the yield loci using the unified yield criterion. It is shown that the unified yield criterion can be used to describe the yield behavior of the metallic glasses no matter whether the metallic glasses show strength- different effect or non-strength-different effect. Almost all the widely accepted yield criteria are the subsets of the unified yield criterion if the intermediate principle stress and/or the intermediate principle shear stress are not considered at all.展开更多

文摘The growing characteristics of metallic iron particles during reductive roasting of boron-bearing magnetite concentrate under different conditions were investigated. The size of the metallic iron particles was quantitatively measured via optical image analysis with consideration of size calibration and weighted ratio of image numbers in the core, middle and periphery zones of cross-section of pellets. In order to guarantee the measurement accuracy,54 images were captured in total for each specimen, with a weighted ratio of 1:7:19 with respect to the core, middle and periphery section of the cross-section of pellets.Increasing reduction temperature and time is favorable to the growth of metallic iron particles.Based on the modification of particle size measurement,in terms of time(t)and temperature(T)a predicting model of metallic iron particle size(D),was established as:D=125−0.112t−0.2352T−5.355×10^−4t^2+2.032×10^−4t∙T+1.134×10^−4T^2.

文摘NiFe2O4-based cermet inert anodes with metallic phase compositions of Cu, Ni and 85Cu15Ni were prepared by cold pressing-sintering. Their corrosion resistance was also investigated in Na3 AIF6-Al2O3 melts. The resuits show that the metallic phase species in cermets have no effect on the concentration of impurities in bath during electrolysis, the total steady-state concentration of impurities is almost the same, i.e. between 4.12 × 10^-4- 4.80 × 10^-4. There exists metal preferential corrosion for the cermet inert anode with metal Ni as metallic phase. For NiFe2 O4-based cermets, the cermet with metal Cu as metallic phase exhibits better corrosion resistance than the others.

文摘To investigate effect of metallic ion activation on different particle sizes of quartz in butyl xanthate solution, six common ions(Pb^(2+),Cu^(2+),Fe^(3+),Fe^(2+),Mg^(2+) and Ca^(2+)) were introduced as activators. The approaches of micro-flotation,adsorption test and zeta potential measurement were adopted to reveal the mechanism of ion activation. The results show that Pb^(2+),Cu^(2+) and Fe^(3+) are effective activators for the flotation of quartz in butyl xanthate solution because of their absorption on activated quartz surface.Average recoveries of fine particles(<37 μm) are greater than those of coarser particles(37-74 μm),suggesting that the former is easier to be activated and more likely to be floated and thus entrained in sulphide concentrate. From another perspective, addition of metallic ions(Pb^(2+),Cu^(2+) and Fe^(3+)) renders zeta potentials move positively, and addition of the same metallic ions and butyl xanthate makes zeta potential drop apparently, which support a mechanism where they adsorb onto quartz surface, resulting in an expected increase in butyl xanthate collector adsorption with a concomitant increase in the flotation recoveries.

文摘Entangled porous metallic wire material(EPMWM)has the potential as a thermal insulation material in defence and engineering. In order to optimize its thermophysical properties at the design stage,it is of great significance to reveal the thermal response mechanism of EPMWM based on its complex structural effects. In the present work, virtual manufacturing technology(VMT)was developed to restore the physics-based 3D model of EPMWM.On this basis, the transient thermal analysis is carried out to explore the contact-relevant thermal behavior of EPMWM,and then the spiral unit containing unique structural information are further extracted and counted. In particular, the thermal resistance network is numerically constructed based on the spiral unit through the thermoelectric analogy method to accurately predict the effective thermal conductivity(ETC)of EPMWM.Finally, the thermal diffusivity and specific heat of the samples were obtained by the laser thermal analyzer to calculate the ETC and thermal insulation factor of interest. The results show that the ETC of EPMWM increases with increasing temperature or reducing density under the experimental conditions. The numerical prediction is consistent with the experimental result and the average error is less than 4%.

文摘The effect of key parameters on fatigue life of common metallic components, e.g. steel, aluminium alloy, has been analysed quantitatively. The influential coverage and degree of these parameters have been investigated systematically, some phenomena which can′t be discovered with qualitative analysis method have been revealed, a series of valuable conclusions has been obtained, which would be very beneficial to fatigue resistant design and improvement of anti fatigue ability of metallic components.
文摘A three-stage theoretical model is presented herein to predict the perforation of a thick metallic plate struck normally by a long rod at high velocities. It is also demonstrated that the dynamic maximum shear stress of a plate material has strong effect on plug formation and plug thickness which, in turn, exerts considerable influence on the residual velocities and lengths of a long rod at impact velocities just above the ballistic limit.
文摘Eddy current testing is one of the most effective methods for evaluation of metallic tubes. In practice, however, the signal is often contaminated by the vibration of the probe, namely radial offset. This work deals with the analytical solution to a T-R probe with radial offset,as shown in Fig.1.

文摘Composite materials exhibit the impressive mechanical properties of high damping and stiffness, which cannot be attained by employing conventional single materials.Along these lines,a novel material architecture is presented in this work in order to fabricate composites with enhanced mechanical characteristics.More specifically, entangled metallic wire materials were used as the active matrix, whereas polyurethane was employed as the reinforcement elements. As a result,an entangled metallic wire material-polyurethane composite with high damping and stiffness was prepared by enforcing the vacuum infiltration method. On top of that, the mechanical properties(loss factor, energy consumption, and average stiffness)of the proposed composite materials were characterized by performing dynamic tests, and its fatigue characteristics were verified by the micro-interface bonding,as well as the macro-damage factor. The impact of the density, preloading spacing, loading amplitude, and exciting frequency on the mechanical properties of the composites were also thoroughly analyzed. The extracted results indicate that the mechanical properties of the composites were significantly enhanced than those of the pure materials due to the introduction of interface friction. Moreover, the average stiffness of the composites was about 10 times the respective value of the entangled metallic wire material.Interestingly,a rise in the loading period leads to some failure between the composite interfaces, which reduces the stiffness property but enhances the damping dissipation properties. Finally,a comprehensive dynamic mechanical model of the composites was established, while it was experimentally verified. The proposed composites possess higher damping features,i.e.,stiffness characteristics, and maintain better fatigue characteristics, which can broaden the application range of the composites. In addition,we provide a theoretical and experimental framework for the research and applications in the field of metal matrix composites.
文摘This work uses the molecular dynamics approach to study the effects of functionalization of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)on the mechanical properties of Cu64Zr36 metallic glass(MG).Three types of functional groups, carboxylic, vinyl and ester were used. The effect of CNT volume fraction(Vf)and the number of functional groups attached to CNT,on the mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of CNT-MG composites was analysed using Biovia Materials Studio. At lower values of Vf(from 0 to 5%),the percentage increase in Young’s modulus was approximately 66%.As the value of Vf was increased further(from 5 to 12%),the rate of increase in Young’s modulus was reduced to 16%.The thermal conductivity was found to increase from 1.52 W/mK at Vf?0%to 5.88 W/mK at Vf?12%,thus giving an increase of approximately 286%.Functionalization of SWCNT reduced the thermal conductivity of the SWCNT-MG composites.

文摘To improve the defense capability of military equipment under extreme conditions,impact-resistant and high-energy-consuming materials have to be developed. The damping characteristic of entangled porous metallic wire materials(EPMWM)for vibration isolation was previously investigated. In this paper,a study focusing on the impact-resistance of EPMWM with the consideration of ambient temperature is presented. The quasi-static and low-velocity impact mechanical behavior of EPMWM under different temperatures(25℃-300℃)are systematically studied. The results of the static compression test show that the damping energy dissipation of EPMWM increases with temperature while the nonlinear damping characteristics are gradually enhanced.During the impact experiments, the impact energy loss rate of EPMWM was between 65%and 85%,while the temperatures increased from 25℃to 300℃.Moreover,under the same drop impact conditions, the overall deformation of EPMWM decreases in the temperature range of 100℃-200℃.On the other hand, the impact stiffness, energy dissipation, and impact loss factor of EPMWM significantly increase with temperature. This can be attributed to an increase in temperature, which changes the thermal expansion coefficient and contact state of the internal wire helixes.Consequently, the energy dissipation mode(dry friction, air damping, and plastic deformation)of EPMWM is also altered. Therefore, the EPMWM may act as a potential candidate material for superior energy absorption applications.

文摘The yield behavior of metallic glasses was studied. Almost all the widely accepted yield criteria are the subsets of the unified yield criterion if the intermediate principle stress and/or the intermediate principle shear stress are not considered at all.
