The trace element selenium(Se)occurs naturally throughout the earth.Se deficiency has been linked to impaired breast health and other diseases in human and animals.Compared to severe Se deficiency,marginal dietary Se ...The trace element selenium(Se)occurs naturally throughout the earth.Se deficiency has been linked to impaired breast health and other diseases in human and animals.Compared to severe Se deficiency,marginal dietary Se deficiency accusers more frequently in low-Se regions.Therefore,to investigate the Se status and inflammatory response of the mammary gland under marginal dietary Se levels,an lipopolysaccharide(LPS)induced mouse mastitis model was established.Mice were fed with moderate Se diet(0.087 mg•kg^(-1) Se),adequate Se diet(0.15 mg•kg^(-1) Se)or excessive Se diet(1.5 mg•kg^(-1) Se)for 60 days.Se status and inflammatory factors were investigated.Results showed that the Se status of mammary gland correlated with dietary Se levels.Marginal Se deficiency exacerbated mammary tissue histopathology;increased the mRNA level of inflammatory genes tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α),interleukin-1β(IL-1β)and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2);and enhanced the phosphorylation of NF-κB p65 in mammary gland tissues.Supplementation of Se in diet higher than recommended levels reduced the inflammatory reaction of mammary glands in LPS-induced mastitis model and provided a protective effect.展开更多

Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR)deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by mutations in the MTHFR gene,leading to a variety of clinical manifestations.In October 2022,the Second Xian...Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR)deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by mutations in the MTHFR gene,leading to a variety of clinical manifestations.In October 2022,the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University admitted a 21-year-old male patient with neuropsychiatric disorders,presenting primarily with cognitive decline,limb tremors,abnormal mental and behavioral symptoms,seizures,and gait disturbances.These symptoms had gradually developed over 5 years,worsening significantly in the past year.The patient’s plasma homocysteine levels were 10 times higher than normal,and brain MRI revealed brain atrophy and significant abnormal signals in the bilateral paraventricular nuclei and heads of the bilateral caudate nuclei.Further genetic testing identified a paternal mutation c.1604G>A(p.R535Q)and a maternal mutation c.227T>G(p.L76R)of the MTHFR gene.After betaine supplementation,the plasma homocysteine levels decreased within a week,and the symptoms improved.The patient was ultimately diagnosed with severe hyperhomocysteinemia due to MTHFR deficiency.The c.227T>G(p.L76R)mutation represents a novel missense mutation in the MTHFR gene associated with MTHFR deficiency,but further research is needed to confirm its potential pathogenicity.Early treatment with betaine can fully reverse the symptoms.展开更多
This objective of the study was to develop a model for the determination of N deficiency in cherry trees using a combination of visible near infrared methods and spectro-radiometric measurement.In our experimental des...This objective of the study was to develop a model for the determination of N deficiency in cherry trees using a combination of visible near infrared methods and spectro-radiometric measurement.In our experimental design,cherry seedlings were grown under various N deficiency conditions in nutrient-controlled containers.The reflectance values of plant leaves were measured using a spectro-radiometer.Plant leaves samples were simultaneously collected.Their nutrient contents were determined in the laboratory.Afterwards,we performed a statistical comparison of the reflectance values.Sample analysis results established the significant wavelengths.Moreover,we received accurate regression models for predicting N deficiency in cherry leaves that were grown in nutrient solutions.Next,we verified the model validity by measuring the reflectance of the leaves collected from cherry orchards at various locations using a spectroradiometer.Nutrient deficiencies were calculated using the developed model,and then,the predicted and measured data were compared to evaluate model validity.From these results,we determined the wavelengths that yielded the most accurate results for N prediction,selected from the blue and green regions of the spectrum.We established that for N prediction in cherry trees,the simplest model can be created using 560and 570nm wavelengths.However,the evaluated model can be applicable only under certain conditions.We concluded that in order to develop aprediction method with sufficient application capacity,as well as the ability to assess nutritional and physiological characteristics,the ecology condition of the plant should be properly considered based on the model.展开更多

OBJECTIVE To explore the curative effect and mechanism of Yiqi Huoxue decoction in the treatment of coronary heart disease with Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome.METHODS The patients with coronary heart disease ...OBJECTIVE To explore the curative effect and mechanism of Yiqi Huoxue decoction in the treatment of coronary heart disease with Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome.METHODS The patients with coronary heart disease of Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome were treated with Yiqi Huoxue decoction for 3 months,and the changes of cardiac function were observed.61 serum samples(including 29 cases of disease group and 32 cases of Yiqi Huoxue expression group)were analyzed by non labeled proteomics.The disease group was used as the control group,and the protein with expression level difference of more than 1.2 folds(P<0.05)was screened.The molecular function,biological pathway and protein interaction of the different proteins were analyzed by bioinformatics,so as to identify the molecular and biological pathway of Yiqi Huoxue decoction in the treatment of coronary heart disease with Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome.RESULTS Clinical treatment found that Yiqi Huoxue decoction can improve TCM syndrome score and left ventricular ejection fraction,regulate blood glucose and blood lipid levels,prolong thrombin time,and improve heart function.The results of proteomic quantitative analysis showed that there were 69 proteins with different expression levels in the disease group.Bioinformatics analysis results showed that Yiqi Huoxue decoction may regulate ApoA1,alpha-2 and other proteins to act on HDL assembly,platelet degradation,PI3K Akt signaling pathway,and then play a therapeutic role in coronary heart disease with Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome.CONCLUSION Yiqi Huoxue decoction can effectively improved the heart function decline caused by Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome of coronary heart disease.It mainly act on energy metabolism and platelet activation pathway by activating HDL assembly and platelet degradation signal pathway proteins.This study can provide reference for the follow-up treatment mechanism of Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome of coronary heart disease.展开更多

Signs began to appear at the age of one week, and became seri...20 one-day-old Tianfu ducklings were fed on a natural diet deficient in phosphorus (Ca 0.80%, P 0.366%) for three weeks and examined for signs and lesions. Signs began to appear at the age of one week, and became serious at two weeks. 13 ducklings died during the experiment. Morbidity was 100% and mortality was 65%. The affected ducklings mainly showed leg weakness, severe lameness, depression, lack of appetite and stunted growth. The serum alkaline phosphatasc activities increased markedly. The scrum phosphorus concentration, tibial ash, ash calcium and phosphorus content decreased obviously. At necropsy, maxillae and ribs were soft, and the latter was crooked. Long bones were soft and broke easily. The hypcrtrophic zone of the growth- plate in the epiphysis of long bones was lengthened and ostcoid tissue increased in the mctaphyseal spongiosa histopathologically. The above mentioned symptoms and lesions could be prevented by adding phosphorus to the natural deficient diet (up to 0.65%). The relationship between lesions and signs, pathomorphological characterisation and pathogcnsis were also discussed in this paper.展开更多

The results showed that the prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy in cardiac deficiency of the Qi (CDQ) was obviously higher than that of cardiac deficiency of the Yin (CDY). The higher prevalence of tachycardia occurred in the patients with CDY.The prevalence of the Q - T interval prolongation and abnormalities of ST - T segment in the patients with CDY was also higher than that of CDQ. The difference between two groups suggests that the diagnosis of two syndromes by ECG may be of important value.展开更多
