We have developed two 474 THz(633 nm)new iodine stabilized He-Ne lasers with compatible system of third and fifth harmonic locking.The frequency stability is 1.0×10-11/ 1s and 3.5×10-12 / 10s with third harmonic locking,and corresponding values are 1.3×10-11/1s and 4.0×10-12/ 10s with fifth harmonic locking.We found that the frequency difference between the same component with third and fifth harmonic locking are from 5 kHz to SO kHz.Our experiment and analysis indicate that the center of fifth harmonic signals is closer to the Lorentzian center in iodine absorption component than one of the third harmonic signals,and the reproducibility with fifth harmonic locking is also better than one with third harmonic locking. 展开更多

Studies on the Free Radicals and Thyroid Hormone Metabolism in Cattle with Iodine and Selenium Deficicncy

In order to interpret pathologic mechanism of free radicals and thyroid hormone metabolism in cattle iodine and selenium deficiency, 20 heads of yellow cattle were selected from NiuJia town, Wu Chang City, Heilongjiang Province, China, and were randomly devided into 4 groups with 5 for each. ① supplemented with 0.7 mg·kg -1 iodine(potassium iodine), ② supplemented with 0.2 mg·kg -1 selenium (sodium selenite), ③ supplemented with 0.7 mg·kg -1 iodine(potassium Iodine) plus 0.2 mg·kg -1 selenium (sodium selenite) per day for 30 days, respectively. ④control group. The whole blood glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) and catalase (CAT) activities, free radicals (FR) concentration, erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and molonaldehyde (MDA) concentration, the serum triiodothyronine (T 3)、thyroxine (T 4) and thyrotropin (TSH) were determined on the day of supplementation day-0 and day-30, respectively. It was showed that average iodine concentration in drinking water and diet were 3.82 μg·L -1 and 0.285mg·kg -1 , respectively, Diet selenium was 0.0498mg·kg -1 , Serum protein bound iodine(PBI) was 7.02 μg·100 mL, Blood selenium was 0.14 mg·L -1 , the schoolchildren′s goiter was 21.8%. It indicated that iodine and selenium were deficient in the investigated area. Whole blood GSH-px and CAT activities and serum T 3 concentration were significantly higher (P< 0.01 ), FR concentration and serum TSH were significantly lower(P<0.01) in the first three groups than that of the control, T 4 content in the first group was higher(P<0.05), T 4 was also higher (P>0.05) in the second group. and lower in the third group. The SOD and MDA in erythrocyte were not changed during the experimental period, The results also showed that GSH-px and CAT activities were increased, and FR decreased oberviously in the third group more than the other two groups, In addition, Thyroid hormone metabolism was more coincided with the physiologic status in the third group. the iodine and the selenium played an important role in the pathologic process of free radical metabolic disorder. selenium not only had the function of antioxidation by derectly scavenging free radicals, but also affected through GSH-px and CAT activities. iodine deficiency results in the Goiter, selenium deficiency aggravated iodine deficiency, Iodine and the selenium were dependent and restrained each other in the course of free radicals and thyroid hormone metabolism with a synergistic state. 展开更多

Metal-free direct oxidation of α-isophorone to ketoisophorone by I_2 under photoirradiation

Molecular iodine was first utilized for direct oxidation of a-isophorone (α-IP) to ketoisophorone (KIP) with molecule oxygen at room temperature and the effects of amount of iodine, solvents and reaction time were investigated extensively. The optimized result shows that 70.2% conversion of a-isophorone and 82.6% selectivity of ketoisophorone are obtained with 15% iodine (molar fraction) in acetonitrile under photoirradiation for 5 h. Health Phys.Abstracts,Volume 127,Number 3Feasibility of Treatment Agents in Radioactive Iodine Separation from Waste Liquids Masahiro Hirota1,Shogo Higaki2,Yoshiyuki Ishida3,Daisuke Nakata3,Keiji Terao3,Shigeki Ito4(1.Research Center for Advanced Science and technology,Shinshu University;2.Isotope Science Center,The University of Tokyo;3.CycloChem Bio Co.,Ltd;4.Faculty of Life Sciences,Kumamoto University)Abstract:To discharge waste liquid containing radioactive iodine into sewage systems,long-term storage or dilution with a large amount of water may be required until the radioactivity concentration reduces below the standard value.Processing the waste liquid could be easier if radioactive iodine could be separated from the water.This study verified the effectiveness of superabsorbent polymer andα-cyclodextrin as treatment agents to separate radioactive iodine from waste liquids.Sodium iodide(Na125 I)was added to purified water and artificial urine to prepare simulated waste liquids containing iodine equivalent to the urine of patients treated with radioactive iodine.The as-prepared simulated waste liquid was poured into a container with superabsorbent polymer and left for 90 d.The residual iodine rate in the simulated waste liquid was estimated by measuring 125 I radioactivity.When the water was sufficiently dried,residual iodine rates on day 15 were 0.102 and 0.884 in the simulated waste liquids comprising purified water and artificial urine,respectively.The simulated waste liquid comprising purified water with 5%α-cyclodextrin absorbed by 1 g of superabsorbent polymer had a residual rate of 0.980.Moreover,the residual rate of simulated waste liquid comprising artificial urine with 2%α-cyclodextrin absorbed by 1 g of SAP was 0.949.Superabsorbent polymer combined withα-cyclodextrin was an effective treatment agent for separating radioactive iodine from waste liquids.Key words:iodine;radioactive materials;radioactivity;removal of;waste management。 展开更多
