Based on the theory of the passive hydrogen maser, along with the technology of frequency modulation and modulation transfer spectroscopy, the theoretical expression of the single frequency modulation for the passive hydrogen maser and the function of the cavity and H line error signals separation are derived, which are basically coincident with the experiment. The absorption and dispersion spectrum curves with different resonance widths show that the cavity and hydrogen transition serve as discriminators, and the two error signals can be separated. Through the calculations of the two error signals in the passive hydrogen maser, it analyzes the traditional method of the two error signals separation, and then describes a new improved method for the passive hydrogen servo loops consisting in the use of a single modulation frequency and frequency discrimination. A null interaction of the two error signals for the new selection of the phase setting is deduced theoretically and validated by the simulation. The preliminary experimental result confirms the feasibility of this new approach, which can reduce the influence from the cavity frequency variety on the crystal oscillator and contribute significantly to the long term performance of the passive hydrogen maser. 展开更多

Ultrahigh resolution synthetic aperture radar(SAR)imaging for ship targets is significant in SAR imaging, but it suffers from high frequency vibration of the platform, which will induce defocus into SAR imaging results. In this paper,a novel compensation method based on the sinusoidal frequency modulation Fourier-Bessel transform(SFMFBT)is proposed,it can estimate the vibration errors, and the phase shift ambiguity can be avoided via extracting the time frequency ridge consequently.By constructing the corresponding compensation function and combined with the inverse SAR(ISAR)technique,well-focused imaging results can be obtained. The simulation imaging results of ship targets demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach. 展开更多

Mill chatter is a common phenomenon in the metal strip rolling process. Product defects caused by mill vibration were reported worldwide during last two decades, which is usually classified as torque vibration of the driving system with low frequencies and vertical vibration of the mill stand with comparative higher frequencies. The frequency range of the vertical vibration is wide (in general from more than 100 Hz to more than 1 000 Hz), and the vibration phenomena are very complex, even it is very difficult to determine the vibration causes, which is followed the name "ghost vibration". During a fieldwork to measure the vibration in high-speed rolling mills, a frequency modulation phenomenon was identified, which had not been reported in strip rolling community. This article makes a theoretical investigation to the newly encountered phenomenon in strip rolling process. According to an analysis of the mill roller bearings, the periodic change of stiffness of roller bearings at the fixed load orientation, together with the periodic change of the effective errors of the bearings, may cause amplitude and frequency modulation, based on the theories of Fourier series and Bessel function. The comparison between test results and theoretical analysis implies that the frequency modulation is caused by the effective errors of the mill roller bearings that have 12 ripples on the internal ring of the bearings. 展开更多

Recent advances in electronics have increased the complexity of radar signal modulation. The quasi-linear frequency modulation(quasi-LFM)radar waveforms(LFM,Frank code,P1−P4 code)have similar time-frequency distributions, and it is difficult to identify such signals using traditional time-frequency analysis methods. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an algorithm for automatic recognition of quasi-LFM radar waveforms based on fractional Fourier transform and time-frequency analysis.First of all, fractional Fourier transform and the Wigner-Ville distribution(WVD)are used to determine the number of main ridgelines and the tilt angle of the target component in WVD.Next, the standard deviation of the target component's width in the signal's WVD is calculated. Finally,an assembled classifier using neural network is built to recognize different waveforms by automatically combining the three features.Simulation results show that the overall recognition rate of the proposed algorithm reaches 94.17%under 0 dB.When the training data set and the test data set are mixed with noise, the recognition rate reaches 89.93%.The best recognition accuracy is achieved when the size of the training set is taken as 400.The algorithm complexity can meet the requirements of real-time recognition. 展开更多

Range-azimuth imaging of ground targets via frequency-modulated continuous wave(FMCW)radar is crucial for effective target detection. However, when the pitch of the moving array constructed during motion exceeds the physical array aperture, azimuth ambiguity occurs, making range-azimuth imaging on a moving platform challenging. To address this issue,we theoretically analyze azimuth ambiguity generation in sparse motion arrays and propose a dual-aperture adaptive processing(DAAP)method for suppressing azimuth ambiguity. This method combines spatial multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)arrays with sparse motion arrays to achieve high-resolution range-azimuth imaging. In addition,an adaptive QR decomposition denoising method for sparse array signals based on iterative low-rank matrix approximation(LRMA)and regularized QR is proposed to preprocess sparse motion array signals.Simulations and experiments show that on a two-transmitter-four-receiver array, the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)of the sparse motion array signal after noise suppression via adaptive QR decomposition can exceed 0 dB,and the azimuth ambiguity signal ratio(AASR)can be reduced to below-20 dB. 展开更多

In the high speed target environment, there exists serious Doppler effect in the low pulse repetition frequency(LPRF) modulated frequency stepped frequency(MFSF) radar signal. The velocity range of the target is large and the velocity is high ambiguous,so the single method is difficult to satisfy the velocity measurement requirement. For this problem,a novel method is presented,it is a combination of cross-correlation inner frame velocity measurement and range-Doppler coupling velocity measurement. The cross-correlation inner frame method, overcoming the low Doppler tolerance of the cross-correlation between frames, can obtain the coarse velocity of the high speed target, and then the precision velocity can be obtained with the range-Doppler coupling method. The simulation results confirm the method is effective, and also it is well real-time and easy to the project application. 展开更多

With appropriate geometry configuration, helicopter- borne rotating synthetic aperture radar (ROSAR) can break through the limitations of monostatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) on forward-looking imaging. With this capability, ROSAR has extensive potential applications, such as self-navigation and self-landing. Moreover, it has many advantages if combined with the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) technology. A novel geometric configuration and an imaging algorithm for helicopter-borne FMCW-ROSAR are proposed. Firstly, by per- forming the equivalent phase center principle, the separated trans- mitting and receiving antenna system is equalized to the case of system configuration with antenna for both transmitting and receiving signals. Based on this, the accurate two-dimensional spectrum is obtained and the Doppler frequency shift effect in- duced by the continuous motion of the platform during the long pulse duration is compensated. Next, the impacts of the velocity approximation error on the imaging algorithm are analyzed in de- tail, and the system parameters selection and resolution analysis are presented. The well-focused SAR image is then obtained by using the improved Omega-K algorithm incorporating the accurate compensation method for the velocity approximation error. FJnally, correctness of the analysis and effectiveness of the proposed al- gorithm are demonstrated through simulation results. 展开更多

The influence of frequency modulation (FM) interfer- ence on correlation detection performance of the pseudo random code continuous wave (PRC-CW) radar is analyzed. It is found that the correlation output deteriorates greatly when the FM inter- ference power exceeds the anti-jamming limit of the radar. Accord- ing to the fact that the PRC-CW radar echo is a wideband pseudo random signal occupying the whole TF plane, while the FM in- terference only concentrates in a small portion, a new method is proposed based on adaptive short-time Fourier transform (STFT) and time-varying filtering for FM interference suppression. This method filters the received signal by using a binary mask to excise only the portion of the TF plane corrupted by the interference. Two types of interference, linear FM (LFM) and sinusoidal FM (SFM), under different signal-to-jamming ratio (S JR) are studied. It is shown that the proposed method can effectively suppress the FM interference and improve the performance of target detection. 展开更多

In this paper, parameter estimation of linear frequency modulation(LFM)signals containing additive white Gaussian noise is studied.Because the center frequency estimation of an LFM signal is affected by the error propagation effect, resulting in a higher signal to noise ratio(SNR)threshold,a parameter estimation method for LFM signals based on time reversal is proposed. The proposed method avoids SNR loss in the process of estimating the frequency, thus reducing the SNR threshold. The simulation results show that the threshold is reduced by 5 dB compared with the discrete polynomial transform(DPT)method, and the root-mean-square error(RMSE)of the proposed estimator is close to the Cramer-Rao lower bound(CRLB). 展开更多

Signal modulation is an essential design factor for proximity detectors and directly affects the system's potential performance. In order to achieve the advantages of chaotic codes bi-phase modulation(CCBPM)and linear frequency modulation(LFM) simultaneously, this paper designed a waveform which combined chaotic codes bi-phase modulation and linear frequency modulation(CCBPM-LFM) for proximity detectors. The CCBPM-LFM waveform was analyzed in the aspect of time delay resolution(TDR) and Doppler tolerance(DT) based on ambiguity function(AF).Then,a ranging method, which we called instant correlation harmonic demodulation(ICHD),was presented for the detector using the CCBPM-LFM waveform.By combining time domain instant correlation with harmonic demodulation, the ICHD solved the problem caused by combination modulation and made the most of the linear frequency modulation(LFM) harmonics and the correlation of chaotic codes. Finally,a prototype was implemented and ranging experiments were carried out. From the theoretical analysis and experimental results, the proximity detector used the CCBPM-LFM waveform has an outstanding detection performance. 展开更多

The effect of range-Doppler coupling caused by aircraft moving at very high speed makes trouble on selection of waveform parameters by using frequency-modulated interrupted continuous wave (FMICW) or frequency-coded pulse (FCP). It also limits the increasing of coherent integration time. In this paper, application of coherent phase-coded pulse train (CPCPT) solves range-Doppler coupling well. Relevant processing of CPCPT consists of three parts: Doppler preprocessing, pulse compression, and Doppler post-processing. The velocity information obtained by Doppler preprocessing is used for better pulse compression and range tracking. Doppler post-processing with range tracking could make longer coherent accumulation for better detection of target and higher velocity resolution. Finally, examples of data simulation are given to demonstrate the achievements mentioned above. 展开更多

The inherent mathematic principle of active jamming against the wideband linear frequency modulated(LFM) radar is investigated. According to different generation strategies, the active jamming methods are reclassified into three groups, i.e.,non-coherent jamming(NCJ), convolution jamming(CJ) and multiplying jamming(MJ). Based on the classification, the mathematic principles of different active jamming groups are put forward, which describe the relationships between the modulated signals and the jamming results. The advantages and disadvantages of different groups are further analyzed, which provides a new perspective for the study of jamming/anti-jamming methods and a potential for engineers to integrate similar jamming methods into one jammer platform. The analyses and simulation results of some typical active jamming methods prove the validity of the proposed mathematics principle. 展开更多

A new method is proposed to analyze multi-component linear frequency modulated (LFM) signals, which eliminates cross terms in conventional Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD). The approach is based on Radon transform and Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), which is a recently developed method adaptive to non-linear and non-stationary signals. The complicated signal is decomposed into several intrinsic mode functions (IMF) by the empirical mode decomposition (EMD), which makes the consequent instantaneous frequency meaningful. After the instantaneous frequency and Hilbert spectrum are computed, multi-component LFM signals detection and parameter estimation are obtained using Radon transform on the Hilbert spectrum plane. The simulation results show its feasibility and effectiveness. 展开更多

To enhance the capacity of the radar-reconnaissance interception receiver recognizing linear frequency modulated (LFM) at a low signal-noise ratio, this paper presents WignerHough transform (WHT) of the LFM signal and its corresponding characteristics, derives the probability density functions of the LFM signal and Gaussian white noise within WHT based on entropy (WHTE), dimension under different assumptions and puts forward a WHT algorithm based on entropy of slice to improve the capacity of detecting the LFM signal. Entropy of the WHT domain slice is adopted to assess the information size of polar radius or angle slice, which is converted into the weight factor to weight every slice. Double-deck weight is used to weaken the influences of noise and disturbance terms and WHTE treatment and signal detection procedure are also summarized. The rationality of the algorithm is demonstrated through theoretical analysis and formula derivation, the efficiency of the algorithm is verified by simulation comparison between WHT, fractional Fourier transform and periodic WHT, and it is highlighted that the WHTE algorithm has better detection accuracy and range of application against strong noise background. 展开更多

The Radon-ambiguity transform (RAT), although efficient for detecting the linear frequency modulated signals (LFMs), is troubled by the energy accumulation of noise in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A secondorder difference (SOD) method is proposed to treat with this problem. In the SOD method, the optimal search step and difference step are derived from the LFM rate resolution formula. The sharpness of the peaks of RAT is measured by curvature, and the sharpness, but not the magnitude of the peaks, is used to detect the LFMs. The SOD method removes the noise energy accumulation and reserves the drastically changing components integrally; thus, it improves the detection probability of LFMs in low SNR. The expected performance of the new method is verified by 100 Monte Carlo simulations. 展开更多
