The simulations are based on the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof generalised-gradient approximation in density functional theory. Results indicate that electrons close to the Fermi level transfer effectively when Al, Mg, and N replace Zn and O atoms, and the theoretical results were consistent with the experiments. The addition of Mg leads to the variation of crystal lattice, expanse of energy band, and change of band gap. These unusual properties are explained in terms of the computed electronic structure, and the results show promise for the development of next-generation photoconducting devices in optoelectronic information science and technology.展开更多

Compared with other phases, it is found that the Ni3Sn has larger relative expansion ratio and lower electrochemical potential, with its specific plateaus voltage around 0.3 eV when lithium atoms are filled in all octahedral interstitial sites, and the relative expansion ratio increasing dramatically when the lithiated phase transits from octahedral interstitial sites to tetrahedral interstitial sites. So this phase is a devastating phase for whole alloy electrode materials.展开更多

The thermal electronic contribution to Helmholtz free energy is estimated from the integration over the electronic DOS. By comparing the experimental results with the calculation results from the first-principles and the Debye model, it is found that the thermodynamic properties of Ta are depicted well by the first-principles. It indicates that the theoretical tensile strengths are shown to be 12.4, 32.7, 27.5 GPa for bcc Fe, and 48.1, 34.6, 51.2 GPa for fcc Fe in the [001], [110] and [111] directions, respectively. For bcc Fe, the [001] direction is shown to be the weakest direction due to the occurrence of a phase transition from ferromagnetic bcc Fe to high spin ferromagnetic fcc Fe. For fcc Fe, the [110] direction is the weakest direction due to the formation of an instable saddle-point 'bct structure' in the tensile process. Furthermore, it demonstrates that a magnetic instability will occur under a tensile strain of 14%, characterized by the transition of ferromagnetic bcc Fe to paramagnetic fcc Fe. The results provide a good reference to understand the intrinsic mechanical properties of Fe as a potential structural material in the nuclear fusion Tokamak.展开更多

The optimized crystal structure is obtained and the lattice parameters are compared with available experimental data. The electronic density of states (DOS) is calculated and analyzed. The metallic behavior for the compound is confirmed and the value of DOS at Fermi level is 4.2 states per unit cell per eV. Technologically important optical parameters (e.g., dielectric function, refractive index, absorption coefficient, photo conductivity, reflectivity, and loss function) are calculated for the first time. The study of dielectric constant (ε1) indicates the Drude-like behavior. The absorption and conductivity spectra suggest that the compound is metallic. The reflectance spectrum shows that this compound has the potential to be used as a solar reflector. The thermodynamic properties such as the temperature and pressure dependent bulk modulus, Debye temperature, specific heats, and thermal expansion coefficient of Mo2Ga2C MAX phase are derived from the quasi-harmonic Debye model with phononic effect also for the first time. Analysis of Tc expression using available parameter values (DOS, Debye temperature, atomic mass, etc.) suggests that the compound is less likely to be superconductor.展开更多

A nitrogen atom prefers to diffuse between the two nearest neighboring octahedral interstitial sites with a diffusion barrier of 0.72 eV. The diffusion coefficient is determined as a function of temperature and expressed a.s D(N) = 1.66 ~ 10-7 exp(-O.72/kT). The solubility of nitrogen is estimated in intrinsic tungsten in terms of Sieverts' law. The concentration of the nitrogen impurity is found to be 4.82 ~ 10-16 /~ 3 at a temperature of 600 K and a pressure of 1 Pa. A single nitrogen atom can easily sit in an off-vacancy-centre position close to the octahedral interstitial site. There exists a strong attraction between nitrogen and a vacancy with a large binding energy of 1.40 eV. We believe that these results can provide a good reference for the understanding of the behaviour of nitrogen in intrinsic tungsten.展开更多

The valence band maximum (VBM) is found to be made up by an antibonding hybridization of B s and X p states, whereas bands made up by the π antibonding of B p and X p states dominates the conduction band minimum (CBM). The changes of VBM, CBM, and band gap with ion B and X are then systematically summarized. The natural band offsets of ABX3 are partly given. We also found for all the ABX3 perovskite materials in this study, the bandgap increases with an increasing lattice parameter. This phenomenon has good consistency with the experimental results.展开更多

From analysis of the band structure of the three compounds at equilibrium volume, it obtains a direct band gap of 4.35 eV for ZnA1204 and 0.89 cV for ZnCr2O4, while ZnGa2O4 has an indirect band gap of 2.73 eV.展开更多

Different positions of solute atoms are considered. Structural stability is lowered by Cr doping and enhanced by Mo and Nb doping. A ranking on the effect of solute atoms enhancing the cohesive strength of the grain boundary, from the strongest to the weakest is Cr, Mo, and Nb. Cr clearly prefers to locate in the intragranular region of Fe rather than in the grain boundary, while Mo and Nb tend to segregate to the grain boundary. Solute Mo and Nb atoms possess a strong driving force for segregation to the grain boundary from the intragranular region, which increases the grain boundary embrittlement. For Mo- and Nb-doped systems, a remarkable quantity of electrons accumulate in the region close to Mo (Nb). Therefore, the bond strength may increase. With Cr, Mo, and Nb additions, an anti-parallel island is formed around the center of the grain boundary.展开更多

According to our previous work revealing the molecular adsorption precursor states for O2, we further explore why there are two nearly degenerate adsorption states on Pb(lll) ultrathin films, but no precursor adsorption states existing at all on Mg(0001) and Al(lll) surfaces. The reason is concluded to be the different surface electronic structures. For the O2 dissociation, we consider both the reaction channels from gas-like and molecularly adsorbed O2 molecules. We find that the energy barrier for O2 dissociation from the molecular adsorption precursor states is always smaller than that from O2 gas. The most energetically favorable dissociation process is found to be the same on different Pb(lll) fihns, and the energy barriers are found to be influenced by the quantum size effects of Pb(lll) films.展开更多

We have demonstrated the intrinsic transport properties of the device and the effect of different nucleobases on device properties when they are located in the nanopores of GNRs. It was found that the device's current changes remarkably with the species of nucleobases, which originates from their different chemical compositions and coupling strengths with GNRs. In addition, our first-principles results clearly reveal that the distinguished ability of a device's current depends on the position of the pore to some extent. We believe that these results can provide a good reference for the understanding of the behaviour of nitrogen in intrinsic tungsten.

文摘The electronic structures of cubic structure of ABX3(A=CH3NH3, Cs; B=Sn, Pb; X=Cl, Br, I) are analyzed by den- sity functional theory using the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof exchange-correlation functional and using the Heyd-Scuseria- Ernzerhof hybrid functional. This phenomenon has good consistency with the experimental results.

文摘This paper performs first-principles calculations to study the structural, mechanical and electronic properties of the spinels ZnA1204, ZnGa2O4 and ZnCr2O4, using density functional theory with the plane-wave pseudopotential method. Our calculations are in good agreement with previous theoretical calculations and the available experimental data. The studies in this paper focus on the evolution of the mechanical properties of ZnAl2O4, ZnGa2O4 and ZnCr2O4 under hydrostatic pressure. The results show that the cubic phases of ZnAl2O4, ZnCa2O4 and ZnCr2O4 become unstable at about 50 GPa, 40 GPa and 25 GPa, respectively. From analysis of the band structure of the three compounds at equilibrium volume, it obtains a direct band gap of 4.35 eV for ZnA1204 and 0.89 cV for ZnCr2O4, while ZnGa2O4 has an indirect band gap of 2.73 eV.

文摘Effects of Cr, Mo, and Nb on the ferritic stainless steel ]2(210) grain boundary and intragranularity are investigated using the first-principles principle. With Cr, Mo, and Nb additions, an anti-parallel island is formed around the center of the grain boundary.

文摘Using first-principles calculations, we systematically study the dissociations of 02 molecules on different ultrathin Pb(lll) films. The most energetically favorable dissociation process is found to be the same on different Pb(lll) fihns, and the energy barriers are found to be influenced by the quantum size effects of Pb(lll) films.
文摘The geometric structure, band structure and density of states of pure, Ag-doped, N-doped, and N-Ag codoped wurtzite ZnO have been investigated by the first-principles ultra-soft pseudopotential method based on the density functional theory. The calculated results show that the carrier concentration is increased in the ZnO crystal codoped by N and Ag, and the codoped structure is stable and is more in favour of the formation of p-type ZnO.

文摘Based on the density functional theory, the influences of strain on structural, elastic, thermal and optical properties of CuGaTe2 are discussed in detail. It is found that the tensile strain on CuGaTe2 is beneficial to the decrease of lattice thermal conductivity by reducing the mean sound velocity and Debye temperature. Moreover, all strained and unstrained CuGaTe2 exhibit rather similar optical characters. But the tensile strain improves the ability to absorb sunlight in the visible range. These research findings can give hints for designing thermoelectric and photovoltaic devices.

文摘Electronic properties of the (001) surface of cubic BaZrO3 with BaO and ZrO2 terminations have been studied using first-principles calculations. Surface structure, partial density of states, band structure and surface energy have been obtained. We find that the largest relaxation appears in the first layer of atoms, and the relaxation of the BaO-terminated surface is larger than that of the ZrO2-terminated surface. The surface rumpling of the BaO-terminated surface is also larger than that of the ZrO2-terminated surface. Results of surface energy calculations reveal that the BaZrO3 surface is likely to be more stable than the PbZrO3 surface.

文摘A biosensor device, built from graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with nanopores, was designed and studied by first- principles quantum transport simulation. These results may present a new way to read off the nucleobases sequence of a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) molecule by such GNRs-based device with designed nanopores
