The study of high-energy and low-vulnerability propellants is important for the power performance and safety of solid propellant rocket motors. The modified split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)tests are performed on two kinds of propellant with different crosslinking density to study the dynamic mechanical responses and damage-ignition mechanism.SHPB apparatus is equipped with a highperformance infrared camera and high-speed camera to capture the deformation,damage-ignition feature and temperature evolution images in the impact process. The results suggested that the mechanical responses and damage-ignition mechanism of the propellants were affected by the strain rates and crosslinking density. The damage-ignition degree is more intense and the reaction occurs earlier with the increase of strain rates. For propellant 1 with higher crosslinking density, the critical ignition strain rate is 4500 s^(-1).Two kinds of propellants show different ignition mechanism,i.e.crack generation, propagation and final fracture for propellant 1 while viscous shear flow for propellant 2.Meanwhile,the SEM images also reveal the difference of damage-ignition mechanism of the two kinds of propellants. Finally, the ignition mechanism under different strain rates and critical ignition strain rate of propellants are further explained by the theoretical calculation of temperature variations. 展开更多

The stability control of surrounding rock for large or super-large section chamber is a difficult technical problem in deep mining condition.Based on the in-site geological conditions of Longgu coal mine, this paper used the dynamic module of FLAC3D to study the response characteristics of deep super-large section chamber under dynamic and static combined loading condition. Results showed that under the static loading condition, the maximum vertical stress, deformation and failure range are large, where the stress concentration coefficient is 1.64.The maximum roof-to-floor and two-sides deformations are 54.6 mm and 53.1 mm,respectively. Then, under the dynamic and static combined loading condition:(1)The influence of dynamic load frequency on the two-sides is more obvious;(2)The dynamic load amplitude has the greatest influence on the stress concentration degree, and the plastic failure tends to develop to the deeper;(3)With the dynamic load source distance increase, the response of surrounding rock is gradually attenuated. On this basis, empirical equations for each dynamic load conditions were obtained by using regression analysis method, and all correlation coefficients are greater than 0.99.This research provided reference for the supporting design of deep super-large section chamber under same or similar conditions. 展开更多

Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) test was simulated to investigate the distribution of the first principal stress and damage zone of specimen subjected to dynamic compressive load. Numerical models of plate-type specimen containing cracks with inclined angles of 0°,45° and 90° were also established to investigate the crack propagation and damage evolution under dynamic loading. The results show that the simulation results are in accordance with the failure patterns of specimens in experimental test. The interactions between stress wave and crack with different inclined angles are different; damage usually appears around the crack tips firstly; and then more damage zones develop away from the foregoing damage zone after a period of energy accumulation; eventually, the damage zones run through the specimen in the direction of applied loading and split the specimen into pieces. 展开更多

When underground cavities are subjected to explosive stress waves,a uniquely damaged zone may appear due to the combined effect of dynamic loading and static pre-load stress. In this study,a rate-dependent two-dimensional rock dynamic constitutive model was established to investigate the dynamic fractures of rocks under different static stress conditions. The effects of the loading rate and peak amplitude of the blasting wave under different confining pressures and the vertical compressive coefficient(K_(0))were considered. The numerical simulated results reproduced the initiation and further propagation of primary radial crack fractures, which were in agreement with the experimental results. The dynamic loading rate, peak amplitude, static vertical compressive coefficient(K_(0))and confining pressure affected the evolution of fractures around the borehole. The heterogeneity parameter(m)plays an important role in the evolution of fractures around the borehole. The crack propagation path became more discontinuous and rougher in a smallerheterogeneity parameter case. 展开更多

Having an accurate understanding of concrete behavior under effects of high strain rate loading with the aim of reducing incurred damages is of great importance. Due to complexities and high costs of experimental research, numerical studies can be an appropriate alternative for experimental methods. Therefore, in this research capability of the finite element method for predicting concrete behavior at various loading conditions is evaluated by LS-DYNA software. First, the proposed method is presented and then is validated in three stages under different conditions. Results of load-lnidspan displacement showed good agreement between experimental and finite element results. Capability of finite element method in analyses of beams under various rates of loading was also validated by low error of the results. In addition, the proposed method has reasonable ability to evaluate reinforced concrete beams under various loading rates and different conditions. 展开更多

The deep fissured rock mass is affected by coupled effects of initial ground stress and external dynamic disturbance. In order to study the effect of internal flaw on pre-stressed rock mechanical responses and failure behavior under impact loading, intact granite specimens and specimens with different flaw inclinations are tested by a modified split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)and digital image correlation(DIC)method. The results show that peak strain and dynamic strength of intact specimens and specimens with different flaw angles(α)decrease with the increase of axial static pressure. The 90°flaw has weak reduction effect on peak strain, dynamic strength and combined strength, while 45°and 0°flaws have remarkable reduction effect.Specimens with 90°flaw are suffered combined shear and tensile failure under middle and low axial static pre-stresses,and suffered shear failure under high axial static pre-stresses.Specimens with 45°and 0°flaws are suffered oblique shear failure caused by pre-existing flaw under different axial static pre-stresses.Besides,based on digital image correlation method,it is found that micro-cracks before formation of macro fractures(include shear and tensile fractures)belong to tensile cracks.Tensile and shear strain localizations at pre-existing flaw tip for specimen with 45°and 0°flaws are produced much earlier than that at other positions. 展开更多

For understanding the damage and failure rule of rock under different uniaxial compressive loads and dynamic loads, tests on red sandstone were carried out on Instron 1342 electro-servo controlled testing system with different uniaxial compressive loads of 0, 2, 4 and 6 MPa. It is found that peak stress, peak strain, elastic modulus and total strain energy decrease with the increase of static compressive stress. Based on the test results, the mechanism on damage and failure of rock was analyzed, and according to the equivalent strain hypothesis, a new constitutive model of elastic-plastic damage was established, and then the calculated results with the established model were compared with test results to show a good agreement. Furthermore the rule of releasing ratio of damage strain energy was discussed. 展开更多

Although the dynamic properties of subgrade soils in seasonally frozen areas have already been studied, few researchers have considered the influence of shallow groundwater during the freeze–thaw(F–T) cycles. So a multifunctional F–T cycle system was developed to imitate the groundwater recharge in the subgrade during the freezing process and a large number of dynamic triaxial experiments were conducted after the F–T cycles. Some significant factors including the F–T cycle number, compaction degree, confining pressure, cyclic deviator stress, loading frequency, and water content were investigated for the resilient modulus of soils. The experimental results indicated that the dynamic resilient modulus of the subgrade was negatively correlated with the cyclic deviator stress, F–T cycle number, and initial water content, whereas the degree of compaction, confining pressure, and loading frequency could enhance the resilient modulus. Furthermore, a modified model considering the F–T cycle number and stress state was established to predict the dynamic resilient modulus. The calculated results of this modified model were very close to the experimental results. Consequently, calculation of the resilient modulus for F–T cycles considering the dynamic load was appropriate. This study provides reference for research focusing on F–T cycles with groundwater supply and the dynamic resilient moduli of subgrade soils in seasonally frozen areas. 展开更多

Thin-walled tubes are increasingly used in automobile industries to improve structural safety. The present work deals with the collapse behavior of double-cell conical tubes subjected to dynamic axial and oblique loads.Crashworthiness of these tubes having different sections(e.g.,circular,square,hexagonal,octagonal,decagonal)was numerically investigated by using an experimentally validated finite element model generated in LS-DYNA.Geometry of these tubes was then optimized by decreasing the cross section dimensions at the distal end while the weight remained unchanged.Octagonal conical tube was finally found to be more preferable to the others as a collision energy absorber. In addition, square and circular tubes showed diamond deformation mode, while the other tubes collapsed in concertina mode.A decision making method called TOPSIS was finally implemented on the numerical results to select the most efficient energy absorber. 展开更多

A new nonlinear transverse-torsional coupled model with backlash and bearing clearance was proposed for planetary gear set. Meanwhile, sun gear and planet's eccentricity errors, static transmission error, and time-varying meshing stiffness were taken into consideration. The differential governing equations of motion were solved by employing variable step-size Rung-Kutta numerical integration method. The behavior of dynamic load sharing characteristics affected by the system parameters including input rate, sun gear's supporting stiffness and eccentricity error, planet's eccentricity error, sun gear's bearing clearance, backlashes of sun-planet and planet-ring meshes were investigated qualitatively and systematically. Some theoretical results are summarized at last which extend the current understanding of the dynamic load sharing behavior of planet gear train, enrich the related literature and provide references for the design of planetary gear train. 展开更多

Strength increase and splitting failure have been observed during dynamic tests of rock materials. However, the failure mechanism still remains unclear. In this work, based on laboratory tests, numerical simulations with the particle flow code(PFC) were carried out to reproduce the micro-fracturing process of granite specimens. Shear and tensile cracks were both recorded to investigate the failure mode of rocks under different loading conditions. At the same time, a dynamic damage model based on the Weibull distribution was established to predict the deformation and degradation behavior of specimens. It is found that micro-cracks play important roles in controlling the dynamic deformation and failure process of rock under impact loadings. The sharp increase in the number of cracks may be the reason for the strength increase of rock under high strain rates. Tensile cracks tend to be the key reason for splitting failure of specimens. Numerical simulation of crack propagation by PFC can give vivid description of the failure process. However, it is not enough for evaluation of material degradation. The dynamic damage model is able to predict the stress-strain relationship of specimens reasonably well, and can be used to explain the degradation of specimens under impact loadings at macro-scale. Crack and damage can describe material degradation at different scales and can be used together to reveal the failure mechanism of rocks. 展开更多

Based on the research on rock burst phenomenon induced by the breakage of thick and hard roof around roadways and working faces in coal mines, a criterion of rock burst induced by roof breakage (RBRB) was proposed and the model was built. Through the model, a method calculating the varied stresses induced by roof breakage in support objects and coal body was proposed and a unified formula was derived for the calculation of stress increment on support objects and coal body under different breaking forms of roof. Whilst the formula for calculating dynamic load was derived by introducing dynamic index Kd. The formula was verified in Huating Mine by stress measurement. According to the formula for stress increment calculating, the sensitivities of dynamic load parameters were further studied. The results show that the thickness and breaking depth of roof, width of support objeet are the sensitive factors. Based on the discussion of the model, six associated effective methods for rock burst prevention are obtained. 展开更多

Deepwater deployment of offshore structures in different sea states was investigated. The whole deployment system was modeled as a lumped mass model, and discretization scheme for cable geometry and methodology for calculating the internal and external force acting on deploying cable were presented. The deployment model suitable for the time-varying length of deploying cable was specified. The free-surface flow fields together with the ship motions were used to calculate dynamic tension in the deploying cable during deployment of the structure. The deployment of deep sea mining system which was a typical subsea working system was employed. Based on lumped mass analysis model and parameters of deep sea mining system, numerical simulations were performed, and dynamic load and dynamic amplification factor(DAF) with different cable parameters, deploying velocities and sea states were obtained. It is shown that cable parameters and amplitudes of ocean waves can significantly influence the dynamic load and DAF, and the time-varying natural period of deploying system is a dominant factor, while the effect of deploying velocity is not obvious. 展开更多
