The effects of MgO on densification and consolidation of pellets were investigated. The experimental results show that, at the same process parameters, the porosity and pore size distribution of green pellets have no evident relation with the MgO bearing additive, pore size of green pellets is between 15 μm and 35 μm and the porosity of green pellets is about 34%. There is a densification and consolidation phenomenon during the induration process; the pore size and porosity of product pellets decrease gradually; and the structure of product pellets becomes dense. MgO makes a negative effect on the densification and consolidation of product pellets, the densification ratio of pellets decreases from 46.3% to 28.6% with the addition of MgO bearing additive from 0 to 2.0 %. The porosity and the pore size of product pellets increase gradually with the increase of MgO content; When the mass fraction of MgO bearing additive increases from 0 to 2.0%, the pore size of product pellet increases and the pore size distributes in a large range. Also, the porosity increases from 18.61% to 24.06%.展开更多

In the present work, theoretical formulas to determine the initial densification strain of honeycomb structure were put forward by means of minimum energy principle. Detailed densification strain points were identified, with full fold model for kinds of specimens. To validate, corresponding numerical simulations were carried out with explicit finite element method. Excellent agreement in terms of initial densification stain point has been observed between the theoretical calculation and numerical simulation. The results show that: (1) a different honeycomb structure has different initial densification strain point, and its geometric configuration of cells plays an evident role on densification; (2) half-wave length of the wrinkle of honeycomb in folding process significantly influences on the densification strain point; (3) the initial densification point is an decreasing power function of the ratio of foil thickness to cell length, with the exponent 2/3. These achievements provide important references for design in cellular energy absorption devices.展开更多

The mechanism on the role of carrier gas in chemical vapor infiltration was also discussed. The results shows that whether or not adding N 2 as carrier gas has little influences on the densification behavior of C/C composites with the controlled temperature, the partial pressure of hydrocarbon and the effective residence time of the gas phase remain constant. When the controlled temperature is not less than 1 173 K,using N 2 or H 2 as carrier gas makes pronounced differences in densifying of C/C composites. The average bulk density of C/C composites from C 3H 6 H 2 is eight to ten percent higher than that from C 3H 6 N 2. However, when the controlled temperature is not higher than 1 123 K,the densification rate of C/C composites from C 3H 6 H 2 is much lower than that from C 3H 6 N 2, which implies that effects of carrier gas on densification of C/C composites are closely related to the type of carrier gas and infiltration temperature. At higher temperature, using H 2 as carrier gas is favorable to the densification of C/C composites, while at lower temperature, hydrogen, acting as reactive gas, can inhibit the formation of pyrolytic carbon.展开更多

The sintered cylindrical powder metallurgy part is treated as a piece of normal metal with pores in the model. The metal block is considered as cylinder with a radius of 6.0 mm and a total height of 10.0 mm. Young’s module was assumed to be 4 000 MPa. Poisson’s ratio was 0.269. The initial yield stress is 210 MPa. Friction coefficient used for the upper and lower contact surfaces is 0.3. Coulomb principle is adopted. Considering axisymmetricity, just half a section is analyzed. Totally there are 1 240 elements. Experiment was carried out by a computer controlled a universal tensile testing machine. During the experiment, the sample was prepared from highly compressible water atomized iron powder with 0.6wt% polymeric lubricant. Particle size is about 100~150 μm. The comparison was performed using a sintered cylindrical sample. The green compact was sintered at 1 140 ℃ for 2 hours. Initially, H0 is 10.20 mm, Φ0 is 12.01 mm and the initial relative density is 0.789. After pressing, H is 7.30 mm, Φ1 is 13.10 mm, Φ2 is 14.64 mm and relative density is 0.88. The load-displacement curves agree with the experimental results very well. Plastic deformation of metallic material is mostly caused by the slipping of crystal lattice. Although very small, a metal powder particle is composed of metallic crystal. Mechanical properties of a powder particle should be very close to their as solid metal counterpart.展开更多

The effects of BaO addition on relative density, microstructure and electric conductivity of cermets were investigated. The results show that relative densities ofxNi/10NiO-NiFe2O4 cermets (x=5, 10, 17) doped with 1% BaO at 1 473 K in nitrogen atmosphere are increased by 0.49%, 1.45% and 2.99% compared with those of the undoped BaO cermets, respectively. Moreover, the electric conductivities (21.98, 28.37 and 50.10 S/cm) of xNi/10NiO-NiFe2O4 cermets (x=5, 10, 17) doped with 1% BaO at 1 233 K are improved compared with those (18.70, 22.79 and 39.58 S/cm) of xNi/lONiO-NiFe2O4 cermets (x=5, 10, 17), respectively. The results show that fine particle size enables the powder to have high driving force for sintering. High temperature is beneficial to densification, but the ultra-high temperature does harm to the improvement of the density. The samples of NiFe2O4-10NiO/SNi has the highest relative density of 97.28 % when it is sintered at 1 350 ℃, but it decreases to 95.23 % when sintered at 1 400 ℃. Low addition of Ni has a great help to the sintering of NiFe2 O4-10NiO matrix. When the samples are sintered at 1 350 ℃ and the mass fraction of Ni is 5%, the highest relative density is gained, but the density decreases with the further increase of Ni contents. The low density of the sintered samples of NiFe2 O4-10NiO/17Ni is attributed to the high volume fraction of pores.展开更多

Water atomized powder obtained from the Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation was used. With compacting and sintering, compared with cold compaction, the density of warm compacted samples increases by 0.07 - 0. 22 g/cm^3 at the same pressed pressure. The maximum achievable green density of warm compacted samples is 7.12 g/cm^3 at 120℃, and the maximum sintered density is 7.18 g/cm^3 at 80℃. Compared with cold compaction, the ejection force of warm compaction is smaller; the maximum discrep- ancy is about 7 kN. The warm compacted mechanism of densification of iron powders can be obtained: heating the powder contributes to improving plastic deformation of powder particles, and accelerating the mutual filling and rearrangement of powder particles.展开更多

The TiC content was varied from 50% to 80%(volume fraction) and the aluminum content in the binder phase was changed from 40% to 50%(mole fraction). The effects of these compositional changes on the densification process and mechanical properties were studied. The results show that with the increase of TiC content, densities of the composites decrease due to insufficient particle rearrangement aided by (dissolutionreprecipitation) reaction during hot pressing. Closely related with their porosities and defect amount, the hardness and bend strength of the composites show peak values, attaining the highest values with TiC content being 70% and 60%, respectively. Increasing the aluminum content is beneficial to the densification process. But the hardness and bend strength of the composites are reduced to some extent due to the formation of excessive oxides and thermal vacancies.展开更多

After the crude MnO 2 was densified, the tap density of the MnO 2 powder could be increased from 1.2 to 2.0 g/cm 3. The discharge capacity is higher than that densified by other oxidizers.

文摘xNi/10NiO-NiFe2O4 (x=5, 10, 17) cermets and those doped with 1% BaO (mass fraction) were prepared by cold isostatic pressing at 200 MPa and sintering in nitrogen atmosphere at 1 473 K. This indicates that perhaps the addition of BaO or formation of BaFe204 and Ba2Fe2O5 has an active effect on electric conductivities ofxNi/10NiO-NiFe2O4 (x=5, 10, 17) cermets.

文摘In order to improve the low ductility of the Mo-Ni alloy,Fe is added and the effects of Ni/Fe mass ratio on the densification behavior, microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of alloy were investigated. The experimental results show that when iron is added to 95Mo-5Ni alloy, the formation of brittle intermetallic phaseδ-MoNi at the grain boundary is avoided.Meanwhile, the grain growth of Mo is also effectively inhibited in the sintering process. However, the addition of iron reduces the degree of densification of alloy since the activation effect of Ni is superior to that of Fe.From the experimental results,it could be concluded that the maximum hardness and bending strength are achieved by 95Mo-1.5Ni-3.5Fe alloy, which are HV 614 and 741 MPa,respectively.Combined with the analyses of bending fracture mechanism, the improvement relative to Mo-Ni alloy is likely attributed to the inhibition of the brittle phase.

文摘The sintering behavior of NiFe2 O4-10NiO/xNi cermet which was used as the most prospective inert anode materials for aluminum electrolysis was studied by examining the effects of raw powder particle size, sintering temperature, and the contents of Ni. The low density of the sintered samples of NiFe2 O4-10NiO/17Ni is attributed to the high volume fraction of pores.
文摘The phenomena of die wall lubricated warm compaction of non-lubricant admixed iron powders were researched, and its mechanism of densification was discussed. The warm compacted mechanism of densification of iron powders can be obtained: heating the powder contributes to improving plastic deformation of powder particles, and accelerating the mutual filling and rearrangement of powder particles.

文摘To investigate the effects of pressure on the hot isostatic pressing(HIP) process of a stainless steel powder, density distribution and deformation of the powder at four different applied pressure levels were predicted and compared by using finite element method(FEM).Constitutive relations of porous compacts during HIP process were derived based on the yield criterion of porous metal materials.Thermo-mechanical coupling calculations were carried out by the MSC.Marc.Densification mechanisms were studied through evolutions of relative density, equivalent plastic strain and equivalent viscoplastic strain rate for compacts. The simulation results were also compared with experimental data. The results show that the densification rate and final density of compacts increase dramatically with the increase in the applied pressure level when it is below 100 MPa during HIP process, and the creep for compacts evolves into steady stage with the improvement of density.
文摘FeAl/TiC composites were fabricated by reactive hot pressing blended elemental powders. But the hardness and bend strength of the composites are reduced to some extent due to the formation of excessive oxides and thermal vacancies.
