Rock bolts are widely used in rock engineering projects to improve the shear capacity of the jointed rock mass. The bolt inclination angle with respect to the shear plane has a remarkable influence on the bolting performance. In this study,a new artificial molding method based on 3D scanning and printing technology was first proposed to prepare bolted joints with an inclined bolt. Then, the effects of the bolt inclination angle and boundary conditions on the shear behavior and failure characteristic of bolted joints were addressed by conducting direct shear tests under both CNL and CNS conditions. Results indicated that rock bolt could significantly improve the shear behavior of rock joints, especially in the post-yield deformation region. With the increase of bolt inclination angle, both the maximum shear stress and the maximum friction coefficient increased first and then decreased, while the maximum normal displacement decreased monotonously.Compared with CNL conditions, the maximum shear stress was larger, whereas the maximum normal displacement and friction coefficient were smaller under the CNS conditions.Furthermore, more asperity damage was observed under the CNS conditions due to the increased normal stress on the shear plane. 展开更多

Rock bolts have been widely used in slopes as a reinforcement measure.Modelling the shear mechanical behaviours of bolted rock joints is very complicated due to the complex factors that affect the axial force and shear force on the bolts.Rock bolts under shear action exhibit the guide rail effect;that is,the rock mass slides along the rock bolt as if the rock bolt is a rail. The normal stress can inhibit the guide rail effect and reduce the axial force on bolts. However, this factor is not considered by the existing analysis models.Shear tests of bolted joints under different normal stresses were carried out in the laboratory.During the test, the axial force on each point monitored on the bolt was recorded by a strain gauge, and the attenuation trend of the strain was studied. An analytical model that considers the inhibition of the bolt rail effect due to an increase in the normal stress was proposed to predict the shear mechanical behaviour of rock bolted joints. The new model accommodates the bolt shear behaviours in the elastic stage and plastic stage, and the estimated values agree well with the results of the direct shear tests in the laboratory. The validation shows that the proposed model can effectively describe the deformation characteristics of the bolts in the shear tests. 展开更多

In order to study the influence of the bolt joint mode on low-velocity projectiles penetrating the composite protective structure, two bolt joint models which connect the composite target to the fixed frame were designed, the ballistic test of the bolted composite protective structure with limited span was carried out,and the bearing and failure characteristics of the bolted region,as well as the energy dissipation of each part of the structure, were analyzed. The results show that in the condition of lowvelocity impact, there are three failure modes for the bolted composite protective structure subjected to projectile penetration, including failure of the impact point of the composite target, failure of protective structure connecting components and failure of the holes in the bolted region of the composite target;the failure mode of bolt holes in the bolted region has a great influence on the protection performance, and the allowable value of the bearing capacity of the bolted region depends on the sum of the minimum failure load in the failure modes and the friction force;shear-out failure occurring in the bolt holes in the bolted region exerts the greatest effect on ballistic performance, which should be avoided; When simultaneous failure occurs in the bolted region and the free deformation region of the composite protective structure, the energy absorption per unit surface density of the composite protective structure reaches the maximum, which can give full play to its anti-penetration efficiency. 展开更多

To study the seismic performance and load-transferring mechanism of an innovative precast shear wall(IPSW) involving vertical joints, an experimental investigation and theoretical analysis were successively conducted on two test walls. The test results confirm the feasibility of the novel joints as well as the favorable seismic performance of the walls, even though certain optimization measures should be taken to improve the ductility. The load-transferring mechanism subsequently is theoretically investigated based on the experimental study. The theoretical results show the load-transferring route of the novel joints is concise and definite. During the elastic stage, the vertical shear stress in the connecting steel frame(CSF) distributes uniformly; and each high-strength bolt(HSB)primarily delivers vertical shear force. However, the stress in the CSF redistributes when the walls develop into the elastic-plastic stage. At the ultimate state, the vertical shear stress and horizontal normal stress in the CSF distribute linearly; and the HSBs at both ends of the CSF transfer the maximum shear forces. 展开更多
