A number of beach-bar sandstone reservoir beds are developed in the upper fourth member of the Eocene Shahejie Formation (Es4s) on the southern slope of the Dongying Sag.Based on the analysis of seismic and logging ...A number of beach-bar sandstone reservoir beds are developed in the upper fourth member of the Eocene Shahejie Formation (Es4s) on the southern slope of the Dongying Sag.Based on the analysis of seismic and logging data,with characterization and petrographic studies of core and cutting samples,this paper analyzes the hydrocarbon accumulation characteristics in two typical blocks of the Boxing and Wangjiagang oilfields,especially reservoir bed heterogeneity and migration conditions that influence oil and gas distribution,calculates the index of reservoir bed quality (IRQ) with a mathematical method,and discusses the relationship between driving force and resistance of hydrocarbon accumulation.Taking into account the characteristics of thin interbeds in beach-bar sandstones,an experimental model simulated the characteristics of hydrocarbon migration and accumulation in thin interbedded sandstones with reservoir bed heterogeneity.The results showed that hydrocarbon distribution and properties were extremely non-uniform.Reservoir bed and migration conditions controlled hydrocarbon accumulation in beach-bar sandstones.IRQ is above 0.4 in the main hydrocarbon region.Sand body distribution,structural configuration and fault systems controlled the direction of regional migration and location of hydrocarbon accumulation.Simulation experiments indicated that the change of driving force for hydrocarbon migration affected selective accumulation mechanisms.Hydrocarbon moved vertically along fault zones to the reservoir and resulted in the distribution of hydrocarbon in the reservoir.Two kinds of hydrocarbon accumulation models exist in the study area.One is a hydrocarbon accumulation model controlled by reservoir bed heterogeneity and the second is a hydrocarbon accumulation model controlled by a complex migration system with faults connecting sandbodies.Finally,different exploration strategies should be adopted for the detailed exploration for beach-bar sandstone reservoirs according to different geological backgrounds.展开更多

Shoreline change analysis frequently begins with feature identification through visual interpretation(proxy-based shoreline)or the intersection of a specific tidal zone(datum-based shoreline).Using proxy-based shoreli...Shoreline change analysis frequently begins with feature identification through visual interpretation(proxy-based shoreline)or the intersection of a specific tidal zone(datum-based shoreline).Using proxy-based shoreline information,this study quantifies the distance between proxy-based and datum-based shoreline data,which is defined as the proxydatum bias.The study was conducted at meso-tidal beaches in Kuala Nerus,Terengganu,Malaysia,with morphodynamic responses to northeast and southwest monsoons.The high-water line(HWL)shoreline(proxy-based)was determined using ortho-rectified aerial images captured by an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV).By contrast,the mean high-water(MHW)shoreline(datum-based)was determined using measured beach profiles adjusted with the Peninsular Malaysia Geodetic Vertical Datum(DTGSM).The theoretical proxy-datum bias was approximated using the best estimate(median)for the beach slope,wave height,and wave period from the estimated total water level(TWL)model.Based on the study,the recorded horizontal proxy-datum bias for the research area was up to 32 m.This study also discovered that the theoretical assumption of the proxy-datum bias based on the TWL model yields values comparable to those of the measurements,with a narrower distinction in bias for steeper beach slopes than the obtained results.The determined proxydatum bias value can benefit future shoreline change studies as it could be incorporated to either proxy-based shorelines by shifting the shoreline seaward or to datum-based shorelines by shifting the shoreline landward in order of the bias value.The seasonal monsoon’s effect on beach profiles should be considered when calculating bias values and conducting potential shoreline change rate studies.展开更多
Beaches along the eastern branch of the Giens double tombolo are subject to coastal erosion.Prediction of the behavior of the beach profile configuration in response to natural and anthropogenic changes using the conc...Beaches along the eastern branch of the Giens double tombolo are subject to coastal erosion.Prediction of the behavior of the beach profile configuration in response to natural and anthropogenic changes using the concept of equilibrium beach profile(EBP)could be useful in finding the most suitable measure to address the erosion problem.Field investigation data of 11 beaches along the eastern tombolo were supplied for this study,and a nonlinear fitting technique was applied to estimate the best parameter values of seven empirical formulations of the relevant EBP.All of the observed beach profiles could be described by a single function,but a single EBP was inadequate to represent all of the beach profiles observed.The variation found could be explained in terms of longshore variation of bathymetry,sediment size,and wave parameters.Analysis of the validity of the EBPs revealed that a representative EBP of each beach is governed by different equilibrium parameters.展开更多

The geo-chemical behavior of the elements in the region is discussed. The irradiations were done at thermal neutron flux of ~ 1011 cm-2·s-1 at 20kW power using Kalpakkam Mini Reactor (KAMINI), IGCAR, Kalpakkam, Tamilnadu, India. Around 19 elements have been determined from 15 samples by high-resolution gamma spectrometry. The accuracy and precision were evaluated by assaying the irradiated Standard Reference Material (SRM 1646a Estuarine sediment) and were found to be in good agreement with certified values.展开更多
