The conventional honey production is dominated by fragmented,small-scale individual farming models.The traditional approach of honey-harvesting involving manual beehive frames extraction,beeswax layer excision and cen...The conventional honey production is dominated by fragmented,small-scale individual farming models.The traditional approach of honey-harvesting involving manual beehive frames extraction,beeswax layer excision and centrifugal honey separation,expose beekeepers to potential bee stings and frequently compromise honeycomb integrity.To address these limitations,we designed an automated honey-harvesting robot capable of autonomous frame extraction and beeswax removal.The robot mainly consists of a mobile mechanism equipped with image recognition for beehive localization,a magnetic adsorption-based beehive frame handling device(60.8 N maximum suction)coupled with a cross-slide mechanism for precise frame manipulation,and a thermal beeswax layer-melting apparatus,with optimal melting parameters(15 m/s airflow at 90℃ for 30 seconds)determined through rigorous thermal flow simulations utilizing FLUENT/Mechanical software.Field experiments demonstrated beehive frames handling success rate exceeding 85%,beeswax layer removal efficacy over 80% and damage of honeycombs below 30%.The experiment results validate the robot's operational reliability and its capacity to automate critical harvesting procedures.This study significantly reduces the labor intensity for beekeepers,effectively eliminates the risk of direct human-bee contact and improves the removal of beeswax layer,thereby catalyzing the modernization of the beekeeping industry.展开更多

The longitudinal ve...The effect of the information delay, which was caused by thc naturc of the distance sensors and wireless communication systems, on the string stability of platoon of automated vehicles was studied. The longitudinal vehicle dynamics model was built by taking the information delay into consideration, and three typical information frameworks, i.e., leader-predecessor framework (LPF), multiple-predecessors framework (MPF) and predecessor-successor framework (PSF), were defined and their related spacing error dynamics models in frequency domain were proposed. The string stability of platoon of automated vehicles was analyzed for the LPF, MPF and PSF, respectively. Meanwhile, the related sufficient string stable conditions were also obtained. The results demonstrate that the string stability can be guaranteed tbr the LPF and PSF with considering the information delay, but the ranges of the control gains of the control laws are smaller than those without considering the information delay. For the MPF, the "weak" string stability, which can be guaranteed without considering the information delay, cannot be obtained with considering the information delay. The comparative simulations further demonstrate that the LPF shows better string stability, but the PSF shows better string scalable performance.展开更多
The connected and automated vehicles(CAVs)technologies provide more information to drivers in the car-following(CF)process.Unlike the human-driven vehicles(HVs),which only considers information in front,the CAVs circu...The connected and automated vehicles(CAVs)technologies provide more information to drivers in the car-following(CF)process.Unlike the human-driven vehicles(HVs),which only considers information in front,the CAVs circumstance allows them to obtain information in front and behind,enhancing vehicles perception ability.This paper proposes an intelligent back-looking distance driver model(IBDM)considering the desired distance of the following vehicle in homogeneous CAVs environment.Based on intelligent driver model(IDM),the IBDM integrates behind information of vehicles as a control term.The stability condition against a small perturbation is analyzed using linear stability theory in the homogeneous traffic flow.To validate the theoretical analysis,simulations are carried out on a single lane under the open boundary condition,and compared with the IDM not considering the following vehicle and the extended IDM considering the information of vehicle preceding and next preceding.Six scenarios are designed to evaluate the results under different disturbance strength,disturbance location,and initial platoon space distance.The results reveal that the IBDM has an advantage over IDM and the extended IDM in control of CAVs car-following process in maintaining string stability,and the stability improves by increasing the proportion of the new item.展开更多
The problem of simultaneous scheduling of machines and vehicles in flexible manufacturing system (FMS) was addressed.A spreadsheet based genetic algorithm (GA) approach was presented to solve the problem.A domain inde...The problem of simultaneous scheduling of machines and vehicles in flexible manufacturing system (FMS) was addressed.A spreadsheet based genetic algorithm (GA) approach was presented to solve the problem.A domain independent general purpose GA was used,which was an add-in to the spreadsheet software.An adaptation of the propritary GA software was demonstrated to the problem of minimizing the total completion time or makespan for simultaneous scheduling of machines and vehicles in flexible manufacturing systems.Computational results are presented for a benchmark with 82 test problems,which have been constructed by other researchers.The achieved results are comparable to the previous approaches.The proposed approach can be also applied to other problems or objective functions without changing the GA routine or the spreadsheet model.展开更多

Here we present a simple yet effective gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)identification approach for the detection of heteroatom-containing compounds(HACCs)in petroleum fractions.The MS/AMDIS(Automated Mass S...Here we present a simple yet effective gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)identification approach for the detection of heteroatom-containing compounds(HACCs)in petroleum fractions.The MS/AMDIS(Automated Mass Spectral Deconvolution and Identification System)program was used to identify parts per million(ppm)HACC concentrations in petroleum fractions in place of traditional techniques(extraction and standard injection).Polycyclic aromatic sulfur heterocycles(S-PAHs)were used as model compounds to confirm the validity of the AMDIS identifiers,which were compared with extracted results using the off-line X-calibur software.AMDIS was able to identify ppm concentrations of S-PAHs in oil condensate.There was good agreement between experimental and AMDIS identification results for S-PAHs in oil condensate.AMDIS was also used to detect nitrogen-containing compounds(NCCs)and alkylphenols in oil condensate.Our results confirmed the presence of 2-methylbenzothiazole,carbazole,and 2,4-ditertbutyl phenol.In a crude oil sample,AMDIS identification of m/z=191 biomarkers wa s consistent with empirical results.Therefore,AMDIS can help to reduce the number of experimental steps in identification protocols.展开更多
With the development of fast communication technology between ego vehicle and other traffic participants,and automated driving technology,there is a big potential in the improvement of energy efficiency of hybrid elec...With the development of fast communication technology between ego vehicle and other traffic participants,and automated driving technology,there is a big potential in the improvement of energy efficiency of hybrid electric vehicles(HEVs).Moreover,the terrain along the driving route is a non-ignorable factor for energy efficiency of HEV running on the hilly streets.This paper proposes a look-ahead horizon-based optimal energy management strategy to jointly improve the efficiencies of powertrain and vehicle for connected and automated HEVs on the road with slope.Firstly,a rule-based framework is developed to guarantee the success of automated driving in the traffic scenario.Then a constrained optimal control problem is formulated to minimize the fuel consumption and the electricity consumption under the satisfaction of inter-vehicular distance constraint between ego vehicle and preceding vehicle.Both speed planning and torque split of hybrid powertrain are provided by the proposed approach.Moreover,the preceding vehicle speed in the look-ahead horizon is predicted by extreme learning machine with real-time data obtained from communication of vehicle-to-everything.The optimal solution is derived through the Pontryagin’s maximum principle.Finally,to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm,a traffic-in-the-loop powertrain platform with data from real world traffic environment is built.It is found that the fuel economy for the proposed energy management strategy improves in average 17.0%in scenarios of different traffic densities,compared to the energy management strategy without prediction of preceding vehicle speed.展开更多

The cold chain in the production area of fruits and vegetables is the primary link to reduce product loss and improve product quality,but it is also a weak link.With the application of big data technology in cold chai...The cold chain in the production area of fruits and vegetables is the primary link to reduce product loss and improve product quality,but it is also a weak link.With the application of big data technology in cold chain logistics,intelligent devices,and technologies have become important carriers for improving the efficiency of cold chain logistics in fruit and vegetable production areas,extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables,and reducing fruit and vegetable losses.They have many advantages in fruit and vegetable pre-cooling,sorting and packaging,testing,warehousing,transportation,and other aspects.This article summarizes the rapidly developing and widely used intelligent technologies at home and abroad in recent years,including automated guided vehicle intelligent handling based on electromagnetic or optical technology,intelligent sorting based on sensors,electronic optics,and other technologies,intelligent detection based on computer vision technology,intelligent transportation based on perspective imaging technology,etc.It analyses and studies the innovative research and achievements of various scholars in applying intelligent technology in fruit and vegetable cold chain storage,sorting,detection,transportation,and other links,and improves the efficiency of fruit and vegetable cold chain logistics.However,applying intelligent technology in fruit and vegetable cold chain logistics also faces many problems.The challenges of high cost,difficulty in technological integration,and talent shortages have limited the development of intelligent technology in the field of fruit and vegetable cold chains.To solve the current problems,it is proposed that costs be controlled through independent research and development,technological innovation,and other means to lower the entry threshold for small enterprises.Strengthen integrating intelligent technology and cold chain logistics systems to improve data security and system compatibility.At the same time,the government should introduce relevant policies,provide necessary financial support,and establish talent training mechanisms.Accelerate the development and improvement of intelligent technology standards in the field of cold chain logistics.Through technological innovation,cost control,talent cultivation,and policy guidance,we aim to promote the upgrading of the agricultural industry and provide ideas for improving the quality and efficiency of fruit and vegetable cold chain logistics.展开更多
