Indifference and alienation have replaced communication and trust among people or between one and self. By analyzing the alienation among people, the self-split of oneself and the reasons resulting these in William Faulkner's As I lay Dying, the concern of Faulkner about the social phenomenon and his pursuit of transcending the personal to a universal level will be better presented to us. 展开更多

Loneliness or spiritual isolation, is normally considered to be the all-important theme of Carson Mc Cullers' novel The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, as its title suggests. The alienation and return of love, however, are apparently pervasive through the whole story and each character feels extremely alienated from love and frustrated in their search for love and spiritual integration with something greater than themselves. Mc Cullers details her novel with many truths about the awkward predicament of love and morality with her lucid, poetic prose. It is noted that hence, when man's heart is a lonely hunter, it will find what it wishes to love in the most unlikely places. 展开更多
