文摘When the protective and protected systems are detached, the former can be allowed to absorb the kinetic energy of the impacting projectile through large deformation without considering the back face signature of the latter. This paper presents a novel double-face knitted fabric(DFKF)designed for this very impacting scenario.Shooting tests equipped with high-speed camera were used to characterize the ballistic performance with the impact velocities ranging from 100 m/s to 450 m/s.The results showed that the ballistic limits(V_(bl))of DFKF are approximately triple and double that of its counterpart UD and plain fabrics, respectively. For mass-normalized metrics, the specific energy absorption(SEA)is 250%and 350%greater than the UD and plain fabrics at their corresponding V_(bl)s.The quasi-static tests showed that the DFKF displayed greater resilience, crease recovery properties, and flexibility, which also made it an especially better candidate than UD and plain weaves for the design of umbrella surface cloth. It was also found that DFKF is dependent on yarn count and the incorporation of spandex.A prototype anti-ballistic umbrella is manufactured using DFKF made of 200D multi-filament yarn. The ballistic performance is also sensitive to the impact site when the umbrella is subjected to impact.

文摘The present investigation introduces a composite frequency selective Rasorber(CFSR)that demonstrates a wide−1 dB transmission band, two high absorption bands with absorptivity higher than 90%,and large oblique incidence angles up to 60°.The CFSR consists of four functional layers separated by three dielectric slabs, which includes lossless metasurface-Ⅰ(MS-Ⅰ),loss metasurface-Ⅱ(MS-Ⅱ),loss metasurface-Ⅲ(MS-Ⅲ),and a three-dimensional metastructure(3D-MS).MS-Ⅰfunctions as a reflector for two absorption bands with a minimal insertion loss transmission window.MS-Ⅱis designed for high-frequency absorption.MS-Ⅲserves as a low-frequency absorption layer for CFSR and an impedance matching layer for MS-Ⅱ.The design methodologies for the transmission window in MS-III and the introduction of 3D-MS are key to achieving high-performance CFSR.The physical mechanisms of CFSR are explained through equivalent circuit model(ECM)analysis and impedance characterization. Finally, measurement results confirm that the proposed CFSR exhibits a−1 dB transmission band ranging from 8.79 to 10.41 GHz with a minimum insertion loss of 0.44 dB at 9.59 GHz;furthermore, the frequency range where reflection coefficient remains below−10 dB is measured to be between 3.33 and 18.00 GHz,aligning well with simulation outcomes.

文摘The compression and energy absorption properties of foam geopolymers increase stress wave attenuation under explosion impacts, reducing the vibration effect on the structure.Explosion tests were conducted using several composite structure models, including a concrete lining structure(CLS)without foam geopolymer and six foam geopolymer composite structures(FGCS)with different backfill parameters,to study the dynamic response and wave dissipation mechanisms of FGCS under explosive loading.Pressure, strain, and vibration responses at different locations were synchronously tested. The damage modes and dynamic responses of different models were compared, and how wave elimination and energy absorption efficiencies were affected by foam geopolymer backfill parameters was analyzed. The results showed that the foam geopolymer absorbed and dissipated the impact energy through continuous compressive deformation under high strain rates and dynamic loading, reducing the strain in the liner structure by 52%and increasing the pressure attenuation rate by 28%.Additionally,the foam geopolymer backfill reduced structural vibration and liner deformation, with the FGCS structure showing 35%less displacement and 70%less acceleration compared to the CLS.The FGCS model with thicker, less dense foam geopolymer backfill, having more pores and higher porosity, demonstrated better compression and energy absorption under dynamic impact, increasing stress wave attenuation efficiency.By analyzing the stress wave propagation and the compression characteristics of the porous medium,it was concluded that the stress transfer ratio of FGCS-ρ-579 was 77%lower than that of CLS,and the transmitted wave energy was 90%lower.The results of this study provide a scientific basis for optimizing underground composite structure interlayer parameters.

文摘The unit cell configuration of lattice structures critically influences their load-bearing and energy absorption performance. In this study, three novel lattice structures were developed by modifying the conventional FBCCZ unit cell through reversing, combining, and turning strategies. The designed lattices were fabricated via laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)using Ti-6Al-4V powder, and the mechanical properties, energy absorption capacity, and deformation behaviors were systematically investigated through quasi-static compression tests and finite element simulations. The results demonstrate that the three modified lattices exhibit superior performance over the conventional FBCCZ structure in terms of fracture strain, specific yield strength, specific ultimate strength, specific energy absorption, and energy absorption efficiency, thereby validating the efficacy of unit cell modifications in enhancing lattice performance.Notably, the CFBCCZ and TFBCCZ lattices significantly outperform both the FBCCZ and RFBCCZ lattice structures in load-bearing and energy absorption. While TFBCCZ shows marginally higher specific elastic modulus and energy absorption efficiency than CFBCCZ,the latter achieves superior energy absorption due to its highest ultimate strength and densification strain.Finite element simulations further reveal that the modified lattices, through optimized redistribution and adjustment of internal nodes and struts, effectively alleviate stress concentration during loading. This structural modification enhances the structural integrity and deformation stability under external loads, enabling a synergistic enhancement of load-bearing capacity and energy absorption performance.

文摘Bauxite tailing(BT)slurry has been generated and accumulated in large quantities, posing a threat to the green and sustainable development of the alumina industry. The regression equation between the actual water content and mud water separation rate was established to achieve efficient resource utilization, and the feasibility of foam lightweight soil(FLS)prepared from BT was investigated. The effects of industrial waste residues(fly ash and slag powder)on the properties of FLS were studied.Meanwhile, the micro-mechanisms were revealed by XRD,SEM-EDS,and TG-DSC.The results revealed that fly ash reduced the workability and compressive strength of FLS.Slag powder can significantly enhance the compressive strength of FLS,which increased by 18.60%-23.26%,17.07%-58.54% and 12.12%-52.12%,respectively.Besides,slag powder can improve the long-term water stability performance and enhance carbonation resistance.XRD and thermal analyses showed that adding fly ash decreased the hydration degree of FLS,leading to a decrease in the hydration products.Slag powder improved the pore structure and compacted the skeleton structure of FLS.This study would provide an effective way to realize the resource utilization of BT,fly ash,and slag powder, with certain socio-economic and environmental benefits.

文摘The nanofluid-based direct absorption solar collector(NDASC)ensures that solar radiation passing through the tube wall is directly absorbed by the nanofluid, reducing thermal resistance in the energy transfer process. However, further exploration is required to suppress the outward thermal losses from the nanofluid at high temperatures.Herein, this paper proposes a novel NDASC in which the outer surface of the collector tube is covered with functional coatings and a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics model is established to study the energy flow distributions on the collector within the temperature range of 400-600 K.When the nanofluid’s absorption coefficient reaches 80 m^(-1),the NDASC shows the optimal thermal performance, and the NDASC with local Sn-In_(2)O_(3) coating achieves a 7.8% improvement in thermal efficiency at 400 K compared to the original NDASC.Furthermore, hybrid coatings with Sn In_(2)O_(3)/WTi-Al_(2)O_(3) are explored, and the optimal coverage angles are determined. The NDASC with such coatings shows a 10.22%-17.9% increase in thermal efficiency compared to the original NDASC and a 7.6%-19.5% increase compared to the traditional surface-type solar collectors, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed energy flow control strategy for DASCs.

文摘CaO-based heat carriers have shown great prospects for thermochemical energy storage in concentrated solar power systems due to the features such as rich reserves, environmental safety, high energy storage densities and high operation temperatures. However, the density decay because of sintering and poor direct solar absorption of white CaO based heat carriers are the two main obstacles lying on the way to the realistic applications. This work introduced dark Mn-based inert support into calcium heat carriers, attempting to solve the above problems simultaneously. As an inert support, the finely dispersed Ca_(2)MnO_(4) functioned as the metal framework to resist CaCO_(3)/CaO sintering.Consequently, the cyclic stability of CaO-based heat carriers, resulting in the high energy storage densities of~2000 kJ/kg even over 20 cycles. As a dark material,Ca_(2)MnO_(4) successfully darkened CaO-based heat carriers, thereby greatly enhanced the direct solar absorption. In addition, the granulation of CaO-based heat carriers was also studied. The pellets showed satisfactory attrition resistance with only 9.85 wt% mass loss over 3200 cycles. In general, good physicochemical performance of Mn-doped CaO-based heat carrier endows it with great prospects for solar energy storage.

文摘Carbonized melamine foam has been recognized as a promising material for microwave absorption due to its exceptional thermal stability, lightweight, and remarkable dielectric properties. In this study,we investigated the impact of nitric acid oxidation on the surface of carbonized melamine foam and its microwave absorption properties. The treated foam exhibits optimal reflection loss of−21.51 dB at 13.20 GHz,with an effective absorption bandwidth of 7.04 GHz.The enhanced absorption properties are primarily attributed to the strengthened dielectric loss, improved impedance matching, and increased polarization losses resulting from the oxidized surfaces. This research demonstrates a promising new approach for research into surface treatments to improve the performances of microwave absorbers.
文摘Polymethacrylimide(PMI)foam has the highest specific stiffness and strength among polymer foams, with excellent radar-absorbing capabilities, which provide it with broad prospects in underwater ap-plications.To evaluate the impact resistance of PMI foam sandwich structures, the dynamic response and energy absorption characteristics of PMI foam sandwich structures with different core layers under various water impact loads were investigated using combined experimental and numerical methods.A fluid-structure interaction device with a diffusion angle was used for water impact testing of the PMI foam sandwich structures. The 3D-DIC technique was employed to process the deformation images of the sandwich-structure back panel captured by the high-speed cameras.Numerical simulations were performed to analyze the dynamic deformation process of the PMI foam core. The results indicated that the maximum deformation of the back panel exhibited a nonlinear relationship with the impulse.Below the critical impulse, the maximum deformation of the back panel plateaued, which was determined by the core density.Beyond the critical impulse, the rate of deformation increased with the impulse was governed by the core thickness.Compared with different sandwich panels,PMI foam sandwich struc-tures demonstrate significant advantages in terms of impact resistance under high-impulse conditions.

文摘The electric vertical takeoff and landing(e VTOL)aircraft shows great potential for rapid military personnel deployment on the battlefield. However, its susceptibility to control loss, complex crashes, and extremely limited bottom energy-absorbing space demands higher comprehensive crashworthiness of its subfloor thin-walled structures. This study investigated the energy absorption capacity of novel concave polygonal carbon fiber reinforced plastics(CFRP)tubes under multi-angle collisions.Quasistatic compression experiments and finite element simulations were conducted to assess the failure mode and energy absorption. The influences of cross-section shapes, loading conditions, and geometry parameters on crashworthiness metrics were further analyzed. The results revealed that, under the similar weight, concave polygonal tubes exhibited superior energy absorption under axial loads compared to regular polygonal and circular tubes, attributed to the increased number of axial splits. However, both regular and concave polygonal tubes, particularly the latter, demonstrated reduced oblique energy absorption compared to traditional square tubes with the increasing ratio of SEA value decreased from 20%-16%.Notably,this reduction in energy absorption can be compensated for by the implementation of inward and outward crusher plugs, and with them, the concave polygonal tubes demonstrated outstanding overall crashworthiness performance under multiple loading conditions. This concave cross-sectional design methods could serve as a guidance for the development of the eVTOL subfloor.

文摘The primary goal of this study is to develop cost-effective shield materials that offer effective protection against high-velocity ballistic impact and electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding capabilities through absorption.Six fiber-reinforced epoxy composite panels, each with a different fabric material and stacking sequence, have been fabricated using a hand-layup vacuum bagging process. Two panels made of Kevlar and glass fibers, referred to as(K-NIJ)and(G-NIJ),have been tested according to the National Institute of Justice ballistic resistance protective materials test NIJ 0108.01 Standard-Level IIIA(9 mm×19 mm FMJ 124 g)test.Three panels, namely,a hybrid of Kevlar and glass(H-S),glass with ceramic particles(C-S),and glass with recycled rubber(R-S)have been impacted by the bullet at the center, while the fourth panel made of glass fiber(G-S)has been impacted at the side.EMI shielding properties have been measured in the X-band frequency range via the reflection-transmission method. Results indicate that four panels(K-NIJ,G-NIJ,H-S,and G-S)are capable of withstanding high-velocity impact by stopping the bullet from penetrating through the panels while maintaining their structural integrity. However, under such conditions, these panels may experience localized delamination with variable severity. The EMI measurements reveal that the highest absorptivity observed is 88% for the KNIJ panel at 10.8 GHz,while all panels maintain an average absorptivity above 65%.All panels act as a lossy medium with a peak absorptivity at different frequencies, with K-NIJ and H-S panels demonstrating the highest absorptivity. In summary, the study results in the development of a novel, costeffective, multifunctional glass fiber epoxy composite that combines ballistic and electromagnetic interference shielding properties. The material has been developed using a simple manufacturing method and exhibits remarkable ballistic protection that outperforms Kevlar in terms of shielding efficiency;no bullet penetration or back face signature is observed, and it also demonstrates high EMI shielding absorption.Overall, the materials developed show great promise for various applications, including the military and defense.
文摘An innovative complex lidar system deployed on an airborne rotorcraft platform for remote sensing of atmospheric pollution is proposed and demonstrated. The system incorporates integrated-path differential absorption lidar(DIAL) and coherent-doppler lidar(CDL) techniques using a dual tunable TEA CO_(2)laser in the 9—11 μm band and a 1.55 μm fiber laser.By combining the principles of differential absorption detection and pulsed coherent detection, the system enables agile and remote sensing of atmospheric pollution.Extensive static tests validate the system’s real-time detection capabilities, including the measurement of concentration-path-length product(CL),front distance, and path wind speed of air pollution plumes over long distances exceeding 4 km.Flight experiments is conducted with the helicopter.Scanning of the pollutant concentration and the wind field is carried out in an approximately 1 km slant range over scanning angle ranges from 45°to 65°,with a radial resolution of 30 m and10 s.The test results demonstrate the system’s ability to spatially map atmospheric pollution plumes and predict their motion and dispersion patterns, thereby ensuring the protection of public safety.

文摘An innovative metallic buffer consisting of series-connected hat-shaped entangled wire mesh damper(EWMD)and parallel springs are proposed in this work to enhance the reliability of engineering equipment. The impact response and the energy dissipation mechanism of hat-shaped EWMD under different quasi-static compression deformations(2-7 mm)and impact heights(100-200 mm)are investigated using experimental and numerical methods. The results demonstrate distinct stages in the quasi-static mechanical characteristics of hat-shaped EWMD,including stiffness softening, negative stiffness, and stiffness hardening. The loss factor gradually increases with increasing compression deformation before entering the stiffness hardening stage.Under impact loads, the hat-shaped EWMD exhibits optimal impact energy absorption when it enters the negative stiffness stage(150 mm),resulting in the best impact isolation effect of metallic buffer. However, the impact energy absorption significantly decreases when hat-shaped EWMD enters the stiffness hardening stage.Interestingly,quasi-static compression analysis after experiencing different impact loads reveals the disappearance of the negative stiffness phenomenon. Moreover, with increasing impact loads, the stiffness hardening point progressively shifts to an earlier stage.

文摘There has recently been a fundamental need to develop high efficiency microwave absorbers to reduce electro-magnet-ic pollution. It is often very difficult to obtain superior absorption with only one material,so we have explored composites using fillers of activated carbon derived from biological material(oleaster seeds)and resin(apricot tree gum)with Fe_(3)O_(4) in a paraffin wax matrix to improve the dielectric properties and achieve a high specific surface area.A 1 mm thick layer of a Fe_(3)O_(4)+resin(FEOR),with the magnetic nanoparticles anchored to the gum, resulted in a reflection loss of−71.09 dB.We compared this with the results for composites using a filler of Fe_(3)O_(4)+activated carbon, and one with a three-component filler of Fe_(3)O_(4)+activated carbon+resin which had a very porous structure that had a direct effect on the surface polarization. However, the FEOR sample had near-ideal im-pedance matching, close to 1,which resulted in high absorption performance. In addition, the presence of defects improves mi-crowave attenuation by dipole polarization and charge carrier trapping. This work suggests the use of new types of biomaterials to in-crease microwave absorption.
