The results of flotation tests show that the collecting ability of quaternary ammonium salts for the four minerals is in the order(from strong to weak) ofoctadecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride(ODBA), cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB), dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride(DTAC). Under the condition of alkalescence, it is possible to separate the diaspore from the silicate minerals such as kaolinite, illite and pyrophyllite using quaternary ammonium salts as collector. Isoelectric points (IEP) of diaspore, kaolinite, pyrophyllite and illite are pH=6.0, 3.4, 2.3 and 3.2, respectively. Quaternary ammonium salts can change ζ-potential of the aluminosilicate minerals obviously. The flotation mechanisms were explained by ζ-potential and Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FT-IR) measurements. The results demonstrate that only electrostatic interaction takes place between aluminosilicate minerals (diaspore, kaolinite, pyrophyllite and illite) and quaternary ammonium salts.展开更多

The results show that the desilication ratio in the solution prepared by the addition of sodium silicate(solution-SS) is much greater than that in the solution by the addition of green liquor(solution-GL), and low alumina concentration in the sodium aluminate solutions facilitates the desilication process. It is also shown that alumino-silicate anions in the solution-GL, and Q^3 polymeric silicate anions in solution-SS are predominant, respectively. In addition, increasing the concentration of silica favors respectively the formation of the alumino-silicate or the Q^3 silicate anions in the solution-GL or the solution-SS. Therefore, it can be inferred that the low desilication ratio in the silicate-bearing aluminate solution is mainly attributed to the existence of alumino-silicate anions.展开更多

The effect of glycerine-xanthate on the flotation of sulfide minerals was investigated based on a function of pH value and concentration of glycerine-xanthate through flotation experiments in the presence and absence of Cu^2+. The results show that glycerinee-xanthate has a strong dressing effect on marmatite at pH〉6 and on arsenopyrite in weak acid and base conditions with butyl-xanthate as collector. In the presence of glycerine -xanthate, marmatite is activated by addition of Cu^2+, but arsenopyrite cannot be activated and remains unfloatable. So the selective separation can be achieved for two minerals. The depression of glycerine-xanthate on sulfide minerals was discussed based on the radical electronegative calculation and the theory of HSAB. Infrared spectrum shows that there are some -OH and-CSS-in glycedne-xanthate molecule, which competes with butyl-xanthate on the mineral surface. As a result of many hydrophilic groups in glycerine-xanthate, the surfaces of marmatite and arsenopyrite become hydrophilic, thus the flotation of marmatite and arsenopyrite is depressed. The collector is adsorbed preferentially on the surface of marmatite and it shows a better floatability in the presence of Cu^2+, whereas, the surface of arsenopyrite absorbs glycerine-xanthate and the flotation of arsenopyrite is depressed by glycerine-xanthate.展开更多
