Objective: To explore a new strategy to treat humeral shaft nonunion efficiently. Methods: In the light of mechanical characteristics of Nickel Titanium memory and the anatomic morphology of humeral shaft, we designed...Objective: To explore a new strategy to treat humeral shaft nonunion efficiently. Methods: In the light of mechanical characteristics of Nickel Titanium memory and the anatomic morphology of humeral shaft, we designed the swan like shape memory alloy connector (SMC). SMC was clinically applied in treating 55 cases of humeral shaft nonunion. Success rate of nonunion repair, reinterventions, complications, range of motion, and patient satisfaction were evaluated. Results: Fifty five humeral shaft nonunion patients were treated with autogenous bone grafting and SMC internal fixation. The average follow up period was 32 months. In 50 patients with complete follow up data, 49 were recovered from nonunion by lamellar bone healing. The excellent and good rate was 98%; one patient suffering from re fracture in a fall refused further treatment. Neither infection nor re fracture after SMC extraction or joint dysfunction was found in the whole group. Conclusion: SMC facilitates safe internal fixation and bone grafting; its memory biomechanic properties promote osteosynthesis, resulting in accelerated and high quality healing of humeral shaft nonunion. SMC internal fixation with bone grafting is creative, efficient and promising in treating humeral shaft nonunion.展开更多
We investigated the combined influence of joint inclination angle and joint continuity factor on deforma- tion behavior of jointed rock mass for gypsum specimens with a set of non-persistent open flaws in uni- axial c...We investigated the combined influence of joint inclination angle and joint continuity factor on deforma- tion behavior of jointed rock mass for gypsum specimens with a set of non-persistent open flaws in uni- axial compression. Complete axial stress-strain curves were classified into four types, i.e., single peak, softening after multi-peak yield platform, hardening after multi-peak yield platform and multi-peak dur- ing softening. Observation of crack evolution on the specimen surface reveals that the deformation behavior is correlated to the closure of pre-existing joint, development of fractures in rock matrix and teeth shearing of the shear plane. To investigate the brittleness of the specimens, the ratio of the residual strength to the maximum peak strength as well as the first and last peak strains were studied. At the same joint inclination angle, the ratios between residual strength and the maximum peak strength and the last peak strains increased while the first peak strain decreased with the increase of joint continuity factor. At the same joint continuity factor, the curves of the three brittleness parameters vs. joint inclina- tion angle can either be concave or convex single-oeak or wave-shaoed.展开更多
Joint mode selection and link allocation are crucial to achieve the advantage of Device-to-Device(D2 D) communications in improving spectral efficiency. In practice, cellular users tend to not be totally altruistic or...Joint mode selection and link allocation are crucial to achieve the advantage of Device-to-Device(D2 D) communications in improving spectral efficiency. In practice, cellular users tend to not be totally altruistic or absolutely selfish. How to stimulate them to devote their links and how to allocate their links to D2 D pair candidates efficiently are two main challenges. In this paper, we encourage cellular users through the variable payment with regard to the social tie strength between cellular users and D2 D pair candidates. In particular, the social tie strength is inferred through a graph inference model and its impact on the payment is quantified as a negative exponential function. Then, we propose a resource scheduling optimization model based on the non-transferable utility coalition formation game, and a distributed coalition formation algorithm based on the Pareto preference and merge-and-split rule. From them, the final coalition structure is obtained, which reflects the strategy of mode selection and link allocation. Numerical results are presented to verify the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.展开更多

The dynamic parameters of wetting, contact-angles and surface energy of the fiber before and alter the treatment were compared to see the changes in the wetting property. ESCA and electron spin resonance were utilized to examine the chemical composition and the attached free radicals of the fiber surface. The results, together with changes in the magnitude of the contact-angle and the number of free radicals with time after the plasma treatment do not show any ageing effect. Single filament test revealed that the tensile strength was not impaired but even improved somewhat after the plasma treatment. The experiment shows that the interlaminar shear strength of Kevlar fiber reinforced epoxy resin compo- site is increased for more than 60%% after the treatment.展开更多
