The flotation of kaolinite using a series of tertiary amines (N,N-dimethyl-dodecyl amine (DRN), N,N-diethyl-dodecyl amine (DEN), N,N-dipropyl-dodecyl amine (DPN) and N,N-dibenzyl-bodecyl amine (DBN)) was inv...The flotation of kaolinite using a series of tertiary amines (N,N-dimethyl-dodecyl amine (DRN), N,N-diethyl-dodecyl amine (DEN), N,N-dipropyl-dodecyl amine (DPN) and N,N-dibenzyl-bodecyl amine (DBN)) was investigated. The results show that the maximum recoveries of kaolinite for DEN, DPN and DRN are 93%, 88% and 84%, respectively, but that of DBN is very low. On the basis of zeta potential and FT-IR spectra, the ionization of surface hydroxyl and isomorphic exchange of surface ions account for the charging mechanisms of kaolinite surface. The adsorption mechanism of tertiary amines on kaolinite surface is mainly electrostatic. The isoelectric point (IEP) of kaolinite increases from 3.4 to some more positive points after the interaction of kaolinite with the four tertiary amines. The FT-IR spectra of kaolinite change with the presence of some new sharp shapes belonging to the tertiary amines. The inductive electronic effects and space-steric effects of -CH3, -C2H5, -C3H7 and -C7H7 bonding to N atom result in different collecting power of the four tertiary amines.展开更多
Polysulfone(PS)hollow-fiber ultrafiltration membrane was characterized combined with flux and streaming potential in single electrolyte solutions.The effects of trans-membrane pressure,electrolyte concentration,ion va...Polysulfone(PS)hollow-fiber ultrafiltration membrane was characterized combined with flux and streaming potential in single electrolyte solutions.The effects of trans-membrane pressure,electrolyte concentration,ion valence and pH value of electrolyte solution on the streaming potential(SP)of the membrane were investigated.The zeta potential and surface charge density of the membrane were calculated on the basis of Helmholtz-Smoluchowski equation and Gouy-Chapmann theory.The results indicate that the valence and concentration of cation have a greater influence on the SP and surface charge density of PS membrane than those of anion,and the pH value of electrolyte solution has great effects on the SP and zeta potential of the membrane surface. Both the absolute value of the streaming potential and water flux of the adsorbed membrane decrease,compared with those of the clean membrane.The streaming potential and flux of the cleaned membrane can be completely recovered by cleaning with the mass fraction of 0.8%EDTA at pH=10.展开更多

Nano-hydroxyapatite(HAP) was prepared by a hydrothermal method with calcium nitrate and diammonium hydrogen phosphate as raw material, to study its characteristics for morphology modification by arginine-functionalization and doping with rare earth such as Tb^(3+). The crystallization, grain size and dispersibility of the sample HAP were analyzed and discussed. The results show that the surface Zeta potential of arginine-functionalized HAP is changed, and the growth rate of HAP is inhibited to a certain extent during the synthesis. The structure of HAP/Arg is not affected during the synthesis by a small amount of rare earth ions doped such as Tb^(3+), and has a single phase of HAP with good dispersibility. The synthesized HAP is also of nano-sized level. Nano-hydroxyapatite argininefunctionalized and doped with rare earth such as Tb^(3+), is suitable for the application of gene delivery as a gene carrier.展开更多

It is found that adding certain amounts of L-cysteine to the bioleaching system of Ni-Cu sulfide largely enhances the leaching rate. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns show the change of bioleached solid residues and the effect of L-cysteine on the surface charges of minerals. Zeta potential and IR spectra of mineral surface show that the interaction between L-cysteine and mineral leads to the formation of metal complex,which is propitious to the bioleaching of Ni-Cu sulfide by Acidianus manzaensis.展开更多
