Starting in the south near the river Ruhr with mining of seams near to the surface, mining wandered to the north with coal seams deeper and deeper. In the same way all environmental effects of mining wandered from south to north, as there are abandoned mining sites, contaminated areas, burning mining dumps, subsided areas and gas accesses at day ground. This all happened in a very high populated area with more than four million inhabitants. Therefore Germany has a long tradition in solving environmental problems of mining activities. The very good interaction of mine authority, mining companies and the mine workers’ union is the main reason why the problems of decreasing mining activities in Germany were solved without economic, environmental or social hazards.展开更多

The Buck converter is the main topological structure of the switch type of intrinsically safe circuit, which has two working modes: continuous inductive current (CCM — continuous conduction mode) and dis- crete inductance current (DCM — discontinuous conduction mode). The operating state of the continuous inductive current mode is analyzed in detail and the energy of discharge spark in various operating modes is discussed. The total energy will decrease with the increase of switch frequency, in a switching cycle; the discharge spark energy has a maxi- mum and a minimum value. Therefore, the Buck converter has smaller discharge spark energy than the linear power circuit and the switch type of intrinsically safe circuit can enhance the output power and the conversion efficiency of the intrinsically safe power.展开更多

However,abutment pressures and poor ground control conditions can halt operations and be hazardous to coal miners. Recently at a mine in Southwestern Pennsylvania,roof material collapsed above shields that created two large voids and caused major challenges for shield recovery. A unique,engineering solution was developed that utilized a modified concrete material to fill the voids,creating stability in the affected area. The many phases of this project included the construction phase,void pumping,cutting out,and bolting of the concrete material. This project eliminated the hazards associated with bolting the recovery face and removing shields in adverse conditions,making it possible for the mine operator to safely complete the longwall move.展开更多

Firstly, we define the practical backfilling process as the "(from backfilling scraper conveyor's) head to tail back- filling, step by step swinging up of the tamping arm, gradual compacting, moving formed backfilling scra- per conveyor when the second tamping arm cannot pass and connecting the immediate roof by back material push front material movement". Meanwhile, the stress changes of backfill body in coal mined out area was monitored by stress sensors, and the roof caving law was analyzed by monitoring the dynamic subsidence of -210 west roadway of this face. The site tests results show that using this new backfilling and coal mining integrated technology, the production capacity in the 7606 working face can reach to 283,000 ton a year, and 282,000 ton of solid materials (waste and fly ash) is backfilled, which meets the needs of high production and efficiency. The goaf was compactly backfilled with solid material and the strata behavior was quite desirable, with an actual maximum vertical stress of the backfill body of 5.5 MPa. Backfill body control the movement of overburden within a certain range, and there is no col- lapses of major areas in the overlying strata upon backfilled gob. The maximum subsidence and speed were 231 mm and 15.75 mm/d respectively, which proved the practical significance of this integrated technology.展开更多

Mining height was 3.8 m and the top coal caving height was 11.2 m. The gateroad pillar between panels was 38 m. During retreat mining,serious bumps occurred in the gateroads on both sides of the pillar affecting safety production. Therefore,pillarless mining was experimented. Using numerical modeling and comparative study of cases of similar mining condition,it was decided to employ a 6 m wide pillar,rather than the previous 38 m wide pillar.Support system for the gateroads was designed and implemented. During gateroad development,pillar failure conditions and entry deformation were monitored. Hydraulic fracturing method was employed to cut off the K3 sandstone along the entry rib so as to reduce the abutment pressure induced during retreat mining. Support reinforcement method combining grouting and advanced reinforcement methods was proposed to insure stable gateroad ahead of mining. Methane drainage and nitrogen injection were implemented to eliminate hazards associated with mine fire and spontaneous combustion. Since the development of gateroad has just completed,and retreat mining has not begun,the effectiveness of the proposed methods is unknown at this point.
