The purpose of this work was to enhance the efficiency of the extraction and stripping processes and the selectivity of germanium and other metals, while making the method as simple as possible. Germanium was recovered from sulfuric acid, using di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (P2O4) as an extractant, tributyl phosphate (TBP) as modifier diluted in sulfonate kerosene and stripped by NaOH aqueous solution. Extraction studies were carried out under different acid concentrations and solvent concentrations, and optimized conditions were determined. The numbers of stages required for extraction and stripping of metal ions were determined from the McCabe-Thiele plot. The results show that the extracting and stripping efficiencies are 94.3% and 100%, respectively, through two-stage extraction and two-stage strip. Moreover, the synergistic effect of TBP on the system P2O4/kerosense/Ge4+ is revealed with respect to the extraction of germanium.展开更多

The electrochemical tests were conducted to investigate the bioleaching behavior of chalcopyrite by various bacteria. Bioleaching efficiency of chalcopyrite in mixed culture is higher than that in the pure culture of L.ferriphilum alone. The iron-oxidizing L.ferriphilum plays a dominant role during bioleaching of chalcopyrite in the mixed culture of L. ferriphilum and A. thiooxidans. During bioleaching, certain values of redox potential are beneficial to the decomposition of chalcopyrite. Jarosite and sulfur are observed as products of bioleaching. The addition of A. thiooxidans during leaching by L. ferriphilum can change the electrochemical control steps of leaching. The corrosion current density is substantially promoted in the culture involving bacteria, especially in the mixed culture.展开更多

The original microorganisms collected from acid mine drainage of different sites were mixed and then treated with mutagens NO2^- , diethyl sulfate (DES), UV and their combinations, respectively. Five groups of mixed microorganisms with much stronger ore-leaching ability were obtained by screening on the leaching media. Among them, group E of mixed microorganisms (treated with 1% DES for 60 min) with the best perfonnance on chalcocite-leaching, increases the content of Cu^2+ by 101.4% in 20 d of leaching compared with the control culture. In addition, group E is more tolerant to Cu^2+ in media than the control without mutation treatment. Analysis for the diversity of microbial clones indicates that half of operational taxonomic units (OTUs) in group E are Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. These observations suggest that group E might have potentials for industrial application.展开更多

The moderately thermophiles could respond well to 20%(w/v) pulp density with less than 10% loss of productivity, and resist arsenic up to 15 g/L. There were a lot of jarosite, arsenolite and sulfur, but not scorodite and ferric arsenate in the bioleached residue. Jarosite passivation and lower sulfur-oxidizing activity of the cells due to the toxicity of the high concentrations of soluble arsenic and iron ions at low p H value should mainly response for the incomplete extraction at high pulp density. The initial bacterial community did not change in nature except for new found P aeruginosa ANSC, but sulfur-oxidizing microorganisms have been dominant microorganisms after a long time of adaptation. Pseudomonas aeruginosa originating from the gold concentrate should be closely relative to the metabolism of the organic matters contained in the refractory gold concentrate.展开更多

The effects including leaching temperature, particle size of the smelter dust, stirring speed, the coefficient β(the molar ratio of sodium chlorate to arsenic in the smelter dust) and the initial H+ concentration on leaching arsenic were studied. The results indicate that the leaching of arsenic increases sharply with the decrease of particle size. The orders of reaction with respect to H+ concentration and particle size are determinted to be 1.136 and 1.806, respectively. The leaching of arsenic reaches 99% under experimental conditions, the apparent activation energy is determined to be 11.157 kJ/mol, which is consistent with the values of activation energy for diffusion model The kinetics equation of leaching arsenic from the roasting dust could be expressed by a semi-empirical equation as 1-2/3η (1 -η)^2/3 = k0(c[H+])^1.136ro^-1.806 exp[(-11157 /RT)t].展开更多
