Ice load on underwater vehicles breaking through ice covers from underneath is a significant concern for researchers in polar exploration,and the research on this problem is still in its early stages.Both mechanical e...Ice load on underwater vehicles breaking through ice covers from underneath is a significant concern for researchers in polar exploration,and the research on this problem is still in its early stages.Both mechanical experimental measurement and numerical simulation pose research challenges.This study focuses on the ice load of a cylinder structure breaking upward through the ice sheet form underneath in the Small Ice Model Basin of China Ship Scientific Research Center(CSSRC SIMB).A high-speed camera system was employed to observe the ice sheet failure during the tests,in which,with the loading position as center,local radial cracks and circumferential cracks were generated.A load sensor was used to measure the overall ice load during this process.Meanwhile,a numerical model was developed using LS-DYNA for validation and comparison.With this model,numerical simulation was conducted under various ice thicknesses and upgoing speeds to analyze the instantaneous curves of ice load.The calculation results were statistically analyzed under different working conditions to determine the influence of the factors on the ice load of the cylinder.The study explores the measurement method about ice load of objects vertically breaking through model ice sheet and is expected to provide some fundamental insights into the safety design of underwater structures operating in ice waters.展开更多

In the code,Young's technique was employed to track the interface between the explosion products and air,and combustible function model was adopted to simulate ignition process. The code was employed to study explosion flow field inside and outside the duct and to obtain peak pressures in different boundary conditions and ignition positions. Numerical results suggest that during the propagation in a duct,for point initiation,the curvature of spherical wave front gradually decreases and evolves into plane wave. Due to the multiple reflections on the duct wall,multi-peak values appear on pressure-time curve,and peak pressure strongly relies on the duct boundary conditions and ignition position. When explosive wave reaches the exit of the duct,explosion products expand outward and forms shock wave in air. Multiple rarefaction waves also occur and propagate upstream along the duct to decrease the pressure in the duct. The results are in agreement with one-dimensional isentropic gas flow theory of the explosion products,and indicate that the ignition model and multi-material interface treatment method are feasible.展开更多

For the site selection problem of emergency material warehouses, the triangular fuzzy numbers are respectively demand of the demand node, the distance between the warehouse and demand node and the cost of the warehouse, a bi-objective programming model was established with minimum total cost of the system and minimum distance between the selected emergency material warehouses and the demand node. Using the theories of fuzzy numbers, the fuzzy programming model was transformed into a determinate bi-objective mixed integer programming model and a heuristic algorithm for this model was designed. Then, the algorithm was proven to be feasible and effective through a numerical example. Analysis results show that the location of emergency material warehouse depends heavily on the values of degree a and weight wl. Due to the advantages of low cost,fast response and pollution resistance,digital hydraulic pump/motor can replace conventional variable hydraulic pump/motor in many application fields.However,digital hydraulic compone...Due to the advantages of low cost,fast response and pollution resistance,digital hydraulic pump/motor can replace conventional variable hydraulic pump/motor in many application fields.However,digital hydraulic components produce large hydraulic impact at variable moments,which will shorten the service life of mechanical components.Through the simulation analysis of the variable process of digital pump/motor,it is found that the discontinuous flow caused by displacement step changes is the fundamental cause of hydraulic impact.The data analysis results of experimental tests are in good agreement with the simulation analysis results.In view of hydraulic secondary components,a variable control method based on dual-mode operating characteristics is proposed.The TOPSIS algorithm is used to give comprehensive evaluation of the displacement control results after this method.The results show that the control quality of digital pump/motor after adopting the control method has been effectively improved,with an average improvement of about 40%.展开更多
The structural system failure probability(SFP) is a valuable tool for evaluating the global safety level of concrete gravity dams.Traditional methods for estimating the failure probabilities are based on defined mathe...The structural system failure probability(SFP) is a valuable tool for evaluating the global safety level of concrete gravity dams.Traditional methods for estimating the failure probabilities are based on defined mathematical descriptions,namely,limit state functions of failure modes.Several problems are to be solved in the use of traditional methods for gravity dams.One is how to define the limit state function really reflecting the mechanical mechanism of the failure mode;another is how to understand the relationship among failure modes and enable the probability of the whole structure to be determined.Performing SFP analysis for a gravity dam system is a challenging task.This work proposes a novel nonlinear finite-element-based SFP analysis method for gravity dams.Firstly,reasonable nonlinear constitutive modes for dam concrete,concrete/rock interface and rock foundation are respectively introduced according to corresponding mechanical mechanisms.Meanwhile the response surface(RS) method is used to model limit state functions of main failure modes through the Monte Carlo(MC) simulation results of the dam-interface-foundation interaction finite element(FE) analysis.Secondly,a numerical SFP method is studied to compute the probabilities of several failure modes efficiently by simple matrix integration operations.Then,the nonlinear FE-based SFP analysis methodology for gravity dams considering correlated failure modes with the additional sensitivity analysis is proposed.Finally,a comprehensive computational platform for interfacing the proposed method with the open source FE code Code Aster is developed via a freely available MATLAB software tool(FERUM).This methodology is demonstrated by a case study of an existing gravity dam analysis,in which the dominant failure modes are identified,and the corresponding performance functions are established.Then,the dam failure probability of the structural system is obtained by the proposed method considering the correlation relationship of main failure modes on the basis of the mechanical mechanism analysis with the MC-FE simulations.展开更多
The standard k-ε turbulence model and discrete phase model (DPM) were used to simulate the heat and mass transfer in a liquid-desiccant evaporator driven by a heat pump using FLUENT software, and the temperature fiel...The standard k-ε turbulence model and discrete phase model (DPM) were used to simulate the heat and mass transfer in a liquid-desiccant evaporator driven by a heat pump using FLUENT software, and the temperature field and velocity field in the device were obtained. The performance of the liquid-desiccant evaporator was studied as the concentration of the inlet solution varied between 21% and 30% and the pipe wall temperature between 30 and 50 ℃. Results show that the humidification rate and the humidification efficiency increased with the inlet air temperature, the solution flow rate, the solution temperature, and the pipe wall temperature. The humidification rate and humidification efficiency decreased with increasing moisture content in inlet air and the concentration of inlet solution. The humidification rate increased substantially but the humidification efficiency decreased as the inlet air flow rate increased. The error between the simulations and experimental results is acceptable, meaning that our model can provide a theoretical basis for optimizing the performance of a humidifying evaporator.展开更多
