Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are vulnerable to various security threats because of their special infrastructure and communication mode, wherein insider attacks are the most challenging issue. To address this problem and protect innocent users from malicious attacks, it is important to encourage cooperation and deter malicious behaviors. Reputation systems constitute a major category of techniques used for managing trust in distributed networks, and they are effective in characterizing and quantifying a node's behavior for WMNs. However, conventional layered reputation mechanisms ignore several key factors of reputation in other layers; therefore, they cannot provide optimal performance and accurate malicious node identification and isolation for WMNs. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic reputation mechanism, SLCRM, which couples reputation systems with a cross-layer design and node-security-rating classification techniques to dynamically detect and restrict insider attacks. Simulation results show that in terms of network throughput, packet delivery ratio, malicious nodes' identification, and success rates, SI_CRM imple- ments security protection against insider attacks in a more dynamic, effective, and efficient manner than the subjective logic and uncertainty-based reputation model and the familiarity-based reputation model. 展开更多

Even though various wireless Net- work Access Technologies (NATs) with dif- ferent specifications and applications have been developed in the recent years, no single wireless technology alone can satisfy the any- time, anywhere, and any service wire- less-access needs of mobile users. A real seamless wireless mobile environment is only realized by considering vertical and horizontal handoffs together. One of the major design issues in heterogeneous wireless networks is the support of Vertical Handoff (VHO). VHO occurs when a multi-interface enabled mobile terminal changes its Point of Attachment (PoA) from one type of wireless access technology to another, while maintaining an active session. In this paper we present a novel multi-criteria VHO algorithm, which chooses the target NAT based on several factors such as user preferences, system parameters, and traf- tic-types with varying Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Two modules i.e., VHO Neces- sity Estimation (VHONE) module and target NAT selection module, are designed. Both modules utilize several "weighted" users' and system's parameters. Cognitive radio is considered as an efficient way to improve the spectrum efficiency. As one of its key technologies,spectrum handoff can guarantee the transmission continuity of secondary users(SUs). In this paper,we address a new and more generalized spectrum handoff problem in cognitive radio networks(CRNs),by considering simultaneously energy efficiency,multiple spectrum handoffs and multiple channels. Furthermore,effects of the primary users'(PUs')arrival and service rate on the target channel sequence selection are also considered. In order to obtain the energy-efficient target channel sequence,we firstly analyze the energy consumption and the number of delivered bits per hertz in the spectrum handoff process,and formulate a ratio-type energy efficiency optimization problem,which can be transformed into a parametric problem by utilizing fractional programming. Then,we propose an algorithm combining dynamic programming with bisection(DPB)algorithm to solve the energy efficiency optimization problem. Our simulation results verify that the designed target channel sequence has better performance than the existing algorithms in terms of energy efficiency. 展开更多

In this paper,we discuss in detail the basic issue of green design and consider an energy efficiency function as the metric to evaluate green cellular networks.Specifically,we investigate the transmit power required for an expected transmission capacity and propose a capacity-power formula based on the energy conservation and the Shannon capacity theorem.Two novel definitions of cell interference depth and handoff dynamic model are introduced and the corresponding expression of energy efficiency function is derived.Numerical results show that the energy efficiency function is closely correlated with the transmitted/received power required and the cell radius.Our work provides a useful basis for research and evaluation on green design and technology of cellular networks. 展开更多

In software-defined networking,the separation of control plane from forwarding plane introduces new challenges to network reliability.This paper proposes a fault-tolerant routing mechanism to improve survivability by converting the survivability problem into two sub-problems:constructing an elastic-aware routing tree and controller selection.Based on the shortest path tree,this scheme continuously attempts to prune the routing tree to enhance network survivability.After a certain number of iterations,elastic-aware routing continues to improve network resiliency by increasing the number of edges in this tree.Simulation results demonstrate this fault-tolerant mechanism performs better than the traditional method in terms of the number of protected nodes and network fragility indicator. 展开更多

To satisfy the needs of modem pre-cision agriculture, a Precision Agriculture Sensing System (PASS) is designed, which is based on wireless multimedia sensor network. Both hardware and software of PASS are tai-lored for sensing in wide farmland without human supervision. A dedicated single-chip sensor node platform is designed specially for wireless multi-media sensor network. To guarantee the bulky data transmission, a bit-map index reliable data transmission mecha-nism is proposed. And a battery-array switch-ing system is design to power the sensor node to elongate the lifetime. The effectiveness and performance of PASS have been evaluated through comprehensive experiments and large-scale real-life deployment. 展开更多
