A new algorithm using orthogonal polynomials and sample moments was presented for estimating probability curves directly from experimental or field data of rock variables. The moments estimated directly from a sample of observed values of a random variable could be conventional moments (moments about the origin or central moments) and probability-weighted moments (PWMs). Probability curves derived from orthogonal polynomials and conventional moments are probability density functions (PDF), and probability curves derived from orthogonal polynomials and PWMs are inverse cumulative density functions (CDF) of random variables. The proposed approach is verified by two most commonly-used theoretical standard distributions: normal and exponential distribution. Examples from observed data of uniaxial compressive strength of a rock and concrete strength data are presented for illustrative purposes. The results show that probability curves of rock variable can be accurately derived from orthogonal polynomials and sample moments. Orthogonal polynomials and PWMs enable more secure inferences to be made from relatively small samples about an underlying probability curve. 展开更多

Firs... Numerical analysis of the optimal supporting time and long-term stability index of the surrounding rocks in the underground plant of Xiangjiaba hydro-power station was carried out based on the rheological theory. Firstly, the mechanical parameters of each rock group were identified from the experimental data; secondly, the rheological calculation and analysis for the cavern in stepped excavation without supporting were made; finally, the optimal time for supporting at the characteristic point in a typical section was obtained while the creep rate and displacement after each excavation step has satisfied the criterion of the optimal supporting time. Excavation was repeated when the optimal time for supporting was identified, and the long-term stability creep time and the maximum creep deformation of the characteristic point were determined in accordance with the criterion of long-term stability index. It is shown that the optimal supporting time of the characteristic point in the underground plant of Xiangjiaba hydro-power station is 5-8 d,the long-term stability time of the typical section is 126 d,and the corresponding largest creep deformation is 24.30 mm. While the cavern is supported, the cavern deformation is significantly reduced and the stress states of the surrounding rock masses are remarkably improved. 展开更多

This study proposed a new and more flexible S-shaped rock damage evolution model from a phenomenological perspective based on an improved Logistic function to describe the characteristics of the rock strain softening and damage process.Simultaneously,it established a constitutive model capable of describing the entire process of rock pre-peak compaction and post-peak strain softening deformation, considering the nonlinear effects of the initial compaction stage of rocks, combined with damage mechanics theory and effective medium theory. In addition, this research verified the rationality of the constructed damage constitutive model using results from uniaxial and conventional triaxial compression tests on Miluo granite, yellow sandstone, mudstone, and glutenite. The results indicate that based on the improved Logistic function, the theoretical damage model accurately describes the entire evolution of damage characteristics during rock compression deformation, from maintenance through gradual onset, accelerated development to deceleration and termination,in a simple and unified expression. At the same time, the constructed constitutive model can accurately simulate the stress-strain process of different rock types under uniaxial and conventional triaxial compression, and the theoretical model curve closely aligns with experimental data.Compared to existing constitutive models, the proposed model has significant advantages. The damage model parameters a,r and β have clear physical meanings and interact competitively, where the three parameters collectively determine the shape of the theoretical stress−strain curve. 展开更多
