Needle-like crystals consisting of a solid solution of C(60)-C(70)fullerene were synthesized by a liquid-liquid interfacial precipitation method using toluene and 2-propanol as solvents.A machined crystal with a V-not...Needle-like crystals consisting of a solid solution of C(60)-C(70)fullerene were synthesized by a liquid-liquid interfacial precipitation method using toluene and 2-propanol as solvents.A machined crystal with a V-notch was placed in a focused ion beam scanning electron microscope where it was bent until fracture by pushing it with a molybdenum probe to measure its mechanical properties and its fracture surface was examined.The crystals had a tensile strength of 58-71 MPa,which is much higher than C60 fullerene needle-like crystals and slightly larger than alumina,and a fracture toughness of 1.1-1.3 MPa m(1/2).Moreover,it is possible to change the plasticity and fracture toughness of the C(60)-C(70)crystals by solvation of different numbers of fullerene molecules.The C(60)-C(70)fullerene crystals have the potential for use as electrodes,anchors for brittle materials,and ductile wires to carry electricity.展开更多
To establish a theoretical foundation for simultaneous removal of multi-heavy metals,the adsorption of Cu(Ⅱ) and Pb(Ⅱ) ions from their single and binary systems by Ca-alginate immobilized activated carbon and Sa...To establish a theoretical foundation for simultaneous removal of multi-heavy metals,the adsorption of Cu(Ⅱ) and Pb(Ⅱ) ions from their single and binary systems by Ca-alginate immobilized activated carbon and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (CAS) was investigated.The CAS beads were characterized by Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTTR).The effect of initial pH,adsorbent dosage,contact time and initial metal ions concentration on the adsorption process was systematically investigated.The experimental maximum contents of Cu(Ⅱ) and Pb(Ⅱ) uptake capacity were determined as 64.90 and 166.31 mg/g,respectively.The pseudo-second-order rate equation and Langmuir isotherm model could explain respectively the kinetic and isotherm experimental data of Cu(Ⅱ) and Pb(Ⅱ) ions in single-component systems with much satisfaction.The experimental adsorption data of Cu(Ⅱ) and Pb(Ⅱ) ions in binary system were best described by the extended Freundlich isotherm and the extended Langmuir isotherm,respectively.The removal of Cu(lⅡ) ions was more significantly influenced by the presence of the coexistent Pb(Ⅱ) species,while the Pb(Ⅱ) removal was affected slightly by varying the initial concentration of Cu(Ⅱ).The CAS was successfully regenerated using 1 mol/L HNO3 solution.展开更多
The use of electro-osmotic chemical is an effective method to improve the clayey soil foundation.Various boundary conditions can be adopted in this method.In this work,two electrode–clay contacts,three solution condi...The use of electro-osmotic chemical is an effective method to improve the clayey soil foundation.Various boundary conditions can be adopted in this method.In this work,two electrode–clay contacts,three solution conditioners,and four anode solution supply times were used for clayey soil improvement.Based on the experimental data,electro-osmotic consolidation theory,and transport of ion theory,it is found that the electro-osmotic chemical effect of the separation of electrode–clay(E_S)is more beneficial for the transport of Ca^(2+),production of cementing material,and reduction of water content than that of electrode–clay(E_C)joining;through electrode–clay contact separation,the anode solution conditioner(NaPO3)6(E_SHMP)delayed the cementing reaction and then increased the transport of Ca^(2+)near the cathode,which increased the amount of cementing material and the electro-osmotic chemical effect;and when the anode conditioner(NaPO3)6 was used,two days of anode solution supply followed by three days cut off from the anode solution led to the highest undrained shear strength increase after the application of electro-osmotic chemical,which resolved the uneven electro-osmotic chemical effect in the E_SHMP.展开更多
